  1. Well, let me tell ya'll about a phone call I just got. I was referred to this dog rescue by my Vet and she had the lady call me. They are only located about 8 miles from my home and she has about 40 dogs mostly females all sizes and breeds that have been Vetted, spay/neutered, Microchipped and because I am a senior Citizen I have options. I am allowed to bring any dog I choose home for a test run and can keep the dog up to 1 month to make sure we match up. Also there is Zero adoption Fee. If the dog and I do not click I can bring it back and select another until we find what works. Now It will be about an hour before I go up there so wish me luck.

  2. When I first posted about Darby I said she had a little history behind her and her being so skinny is part of that which i plan to fix. Her previous owners had her from a puppy and raise her to age 3.5 and a baby was born into the household and once the baby was old enough and crawling if the baby got near Darby she would growl and finally snapped at the baby, not biting the baby but they locked Darby in their garage and when the weekend they took her to the dog rescue and turned her over to them for adoption. Ever since then darby was on somewhat of a hunger strike and went the first 11 days without eating. The on site Vet said if she didn't begin eating they would have to put her down so all the girls that worked at the facility would take turns almost hand feeding at every meal and she was eating just enough to stay alive but not enough to add any weight back on. The girls tried to get about anyone and everyone that came in to adopt her but when she was brought to the visiting area she would not so any signs or reacting to any of the people so no one would take her. I had looked at about 10 different dogs they brought out to the visiting room and I just was not seeing anything that peaked my interest and I was about to give up and one of the girls looked at the other and said how about Darby and the girl went to get her as she was kept in the nursery with the puppys for fear the other dogs might hurt her. They brought her in, handed me her leash and went out to watch through a window. At first I just talked to her in a low tone and pulled an alpo biscuit out of my pocket and broke it in half and offered her half of it. When she heard it break her ears stood straight up and I saw both of the girls get a big grin. I held out the part of the biscuit till she felt comfortable and moved a little closer till she could take it from my hand and then she backed away and laid down and ate it. She stood back up and looked at me as to say she wanted the second half so I held it out and she wagged her tail and moved closer and when she took that half she stood right there and ate it. I reached out and let her smell my hand and reached in my pocket and got out another but I didn't break it but gave her the whole biscuit and she laid down by my feet and ate it and I began to pet her a little and her tail began wagging again. After about 5 minutes of petting as I sat in the chair she put her ears straight up and her tail was wagging and I was petting her. One of the girls was crying and 2 others were laughing. I learned later when they were getting her collar prepared and I was giving them all my address information the girl told me that it was the first time her ears stood up and her tail wagged since she had been there that they had seen. Another plus is she loves to ride. I opened up the back door of the jeep and she didn't need an invite. She was in , ears up and ready to go for a ride. So now you know as much about her as I do except she barked at my land lord several times when he came walking up while she was out side on the cable and has a loud bark.................Thats all folks!!!!

  3. The Hypocrisy is strong with this one...It's ok to go against federal law by allowing "medical marijuana" use, but lets use federal law to grab guns if you use marijuana, that we the state have allowed you use, contrary to federal law..

  4. Very much calmer and very laid back. We are getting ready for bed so this will be another test but she just made another hurdle as she went to the door and then back to me and to the door again so I asked her if she needed to go out and she went to the door and waited till I put her on the cable. She went out for about 10 minutes and came back to the door and scratched to come in and is now laying asleep on her bed. That would indicate that she is pretty much house trained......

  7. I have lived in Kingsport for almost 20 years. BUT my native Texas still holds an interest and I still monitor "Texas Gun Talk". They have a forum "Stolen Property and Criminality" that I thought might be considered here. With all the TN gun store break ins recently and car and residential thefts that occur here and nationwide; maybe that concept would draw attention to serial numbers, descriptions and dates of loss posted for all of us.

  9. I'm hopeful that Darby will work out for you. I wish more dog owners were as responsible as you in trying to find the right fit for their lifestyle.

  13. Staying hidden with supplies is a good plan if you CAN stay hidden. Anybody left out in the open after a while are possibly going to be pretty feral unless they pulled together an organized group. Those groups could be the big danger if they are hostile. It really all depends on what kind of S*** hit the fan. Never the less it will be risky showing compassion. It is easily interpreted as weakness.

  14. It's a lot better to figure that out early. He will find the right home, and you will find the right dog.

  15. Awesome! Good luck! Just from the way you talked about Kasey and your relationship with her I think whatever dog you end up with will be one lucky mutt!

  16. If your energy levels don't match then better to let Obi go to a family that can match his energy. I think that was a pretty clear-headed and responsible thing to do. Honestly, it sounds to me as if you may have a rare opportunity. I know that many people want young dogs and puppies and I understand why. At the same time, there are surely lots of older dogs - perhaps like Marilyn - who may be wonderful, loving dogs but who might have trouble getting adopted because, again, many people want young dogs and puppies. You might be in a position to adopt and love such an older dog while reaping the benefits of a companion who is already settled down and ready to take things a bit easier. Of course, for practicalities sake, I can understand that you or anyone else would be hesitant to take on a dog that is potentially only going to be around for a few years - especially when that could mean rather quickly increasing medical expenses, not to mention possibly setting oneself up to lose another companion so relatively soon. At the same time, your Kasey lived to be sixteen, if I recall correctly. Given good, overall health and so on that means even a dog that is already six or even eight years old (like Marilyn) could potentially be with you for another decade or close to it. On the other hand, if you do decide you want a puppy perhaps your best fit at this stage would be more of a 'lap dog' type breed of a type that doesn't really want to be out of your sight. Just something else to consider. Whatever you decide - puppy, adult dog or no dog, at all I think you have your head on straight about the whole thing and what you can handle.

  25. So a smart person or persons just might be tempted to have enough supplies stocked up to weather the immediate event so he/she/they will not even have to go out at all in the early aftermath. Such a smart person could, hypothetically, let the less prepared and more confrontational or desperate members of society fight it out over what is left at the store, etc. Then, after those confrontational and desperate individuals, with assistance from starvation, accidents and disease have thinned each other out (and the survivors among them have potentially expended much of their ammo, taken losses and casualties and received injuries doing so) said smart person or persons could potentially come from a position of having been well supplied, well fed and well rested to pick off said survivors and reap the benefits of all that stuff having already been scavenged and so conveniently brought to a few, well stocked places. Theoretically.
