I am thankful for my son and his family, I am thankful for my wonderful son in law, daughter and their family. I am truly thankful for having a friend tell me I need to go and join TGO. I am thankful for all of the people here and I have learn much from them and a bunch about many of them. Most of all I am thankful to GOD in Heaven who allows me the priviledge he gives me to put my feet on the floor each morning and in some special way gives me reason to keep moving forward and not giving up!4 points

I learned today that I won't need back surgery. I'm thankful that I didn't damage something to the point of needing repair. All I need is a bit of time and rest. I'm thankful that I can heal and that my wife is patient enough to put up with me! I'm also thankful for TGO while I have only met a few other members you all are helping me stay sane while laid up.3 points

Bersa, I am really sorry for your loss of Kasey. That is really tough when you've been pals for forever and then you lose them. I know I haven't been on at all lately but Monkey said he read about it. I just want you to know that I am really sorry and if you are still looking I have a few fosters that I have picked up that are still fosters because I cannot find a good home (in my opinion) for them. But I know how you pampered Kasey and if you are interested I would be more then happy to send you pictures. They are all fully vetted and neutered/spayed and I will waive my normal adoption fees because I know you would take great care of any companion you get. I have small and large mutts and I have boys and girls. I have semi active to loafs or road buddies who will go anywhere with you. My most recent one is named Harry and he needs a companion for himself. He does good with other dogs but he needs a human of his own and with 10 in the house right now, I know he isn't getting the 1 on 1 time that he needs. He would need a bit of training but that's nothing a patient person and treats couldn't handle. He is skinnier than a bean pole and won't gain weight to save his life. He's 80% legs and 100% snuggler. He curls right up on my lap and sleeps but loves to play ball when you give it to him. Let me know if I can be of any help to you. I will be more then happy to partner you with one of my "fosters", and if mine aren't a good fit, my neighbor across the road also has a wife who does road rescues as well. They have about 20 right now. LOL Feel free to send me a message if you are interested and still looking!3 points

Working on fixing up my JM Marlin 336 and would like to see some pics of others classics. I got this one from my grandpa which he got second hand. It will be staying in the family from here on out. No plans to refinish. Just added a sling kit and have a skinner dovetail aperture sight ordered. I was looking at the receiver version of their sight but liked the aesthetics of the dovetail better. Custom leather sling by Rick Garcia. It is a 1976 mode that has seen its fair share of use and taken plenty of deer. Still smooth as silk though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

I am thankful for my son today, he has and good Lord willing always be a true joy to raise and be with. He has a job at the same place I do, get to work with him on some days. He has grown to be a good man, just married to a good woman, and hopes of grand kids one day.2 points

She looks and sounds like a keeper . I don't know how people who foster do it, I'd be too attached within a week to let a sweet dog go.2 points

Day Four for me... I am thankful that, by divine providence, I was born in and live in the United States. We have our problems but we are still a great place to live and with God's mercy we will continue to be a great place to live for generations to come.2 points

I was fortunate. My wife was just fine with me staying out of the way. I told her that my job was to show up, and I did.2 points

As we go through this every year and I have had several days to ponder my response to this question since it was posted I have formulated my response. I am thankful this foolishness is almost over!2 points

It’s been a couple of years since I lost the last one so I was thinking it’s about time. I really miss having a four-legged critter meeting me at the door when I come in. Little Sassy was 14 when she left and the one before that was 17. This got me to thinking about my age, which GT so eloquently (and correctly) described in another thread as “older than dirt” . I had a friend who lost his wife and I witnessed the grief that her dog went through and I wouldn’t want to put one of mine through that so I decided to look into finding a “senior” dog that needed a loving home. I might have a fighting chance of outliving one that is 6-8 years old. Both of the others were about a year old and came from shelters but I didn’t pick either one of them, they chose me. I know if I go looking, the same thing could happen again and I could wind up with another young dog. All of this led me to Petfinder.com. I checked to see how many dogs were in shelters/rescue centers within 50 miles… 1028, Ok… need to filter it down. Adult dogs……500, more filtering needed. House trained…206, now we’re getting somewhere. I learned a couple of things while I was doing all of this. At least 60% or more of the adoptable dogs were at least part Pit Bull, and quite a few Rottie’s as well, along with a few American Bulldogs. I don’t know why but it stuck out. The other thing was, I ran across a couple of breeds I had never heard of. The Carolina Dog and the Catahoula-leopard dog. Interesting dogs but according to their breed characteristics they're much too active for me, I need a couch potato . The Carolina dog, AKA the American Dingo has a fascinating history. https://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/stories/meet-american-dingo-only-wild-dog-native-continent The Catahoula-Leopard dog is a true Southerner. http://www.vetstreet.com/dogs/catahoula-leopard-dog Just wanted to share…..back to the search .1 point

I was a dog rescurer long before dog resues existed. We lived on a country road about 5 miles inside the cook county/ Will county line and folks would come out of Chicago and just drop dogs off and I guess I was some kind of magnet cause they would seem to always find my house or follow me home while I was riding my bike. At the age of 6 I think I had about 6 dogs of all kinds and my dad would help with food when he could but my parents where raising 4 bottomless food pits. Me and 3 older brothers so I would do odd jobs for neighbors or work for a farmer down the road to by dog food and I would find homes for a couple and soon as they were gone it's like 2 or 3 more would show up. I kept doing that until we moved south in 1967 and when we moved I knew we were going to be living on my grandfathers Ranch/Farm so when we came south I brought 7 dogs with me that I had when we moved south and they had 2000 acres of land to run and romp on there was always plenty of food for all of them then. My grand father bought dog food 500 lbs at a time to feed his stock dogs that he worked cattle with. He had 8 of them and I loved watching them work the cattle and listen to the commands he would give the dogs and watch the dogs react. We could go to a pasture with 2 or 3 of the dogs and he would say fetch the cows and the dogs would go and in about 15 to 30 minutes depending on how many cows were in that pasture they would bring all of them to where he was so he could count them. If there was not the right amount he would send them back out and sure nuff they would bring the missing ones back to the gate. He made fun of my mutts and said they were a waste of food and start laughing.1 point

I was visiting Mike (a long while back) in Knoxville and I was buying quite a few bottles. This elderly (to the point I wouldn't think she drank) comes up behind me and points out Whistlepig and says, if you like the brown water, you will love this. I laughed and thanked her. I ended up buying 10 and 12 year. Monkey has loved both to the point that I have restocked them. I still can't do it, I am mostly the beer person of the house. But Wistlepig is a huge hit in this house for him and company we have.1 point

I'm thankful that thankfulness is not foolishness. And that fools are not thankful. And I'm thankful for foolishness because it's the only way I can survive being with my wife without banging my head on a cheese grater. Seriously though, I'm thankful for this bunch of guys on here where we can be wisenheimers to each other and still be on the same twisted page, because I found out long ago that if you can't inject humor into life you'll go nuts.1 point

No. My post above was incorrect. That building was just the company across the street adding another building. Honestly, I'm still not 100% sure exactly where the property is they bought. If it's where I think it is, there's been zero activity. No surveyors, no signs, nothing. Though there is a fairly significant road building project nearby, so I suppose it's possible they're waiting on that.1 point

Good morning! Had to weight in. We have three dogs and three cats. All our animals are considered senior now. All the cats are rescues and two of our dogs are, both seniors. We adopted our Choc. Lab almost three years ago and we estimate she is around 11 or so. Sweetest dog ever! Licks too much though. We got her from Young Williams. She had not been there long. We recently (July) adopted a 6 year old American Pit Bull Terrier from a Pit Bull rescue. He came out of Memphis. They got him last December. He was on a 50lb chain and weighed in at 43 lbs. Glad I wasn't the one that actually rescued him, because some one would have been put on the hospital. When we got him, he weighted in at 93lbs. We named him Casanova (actually call him Biggun) because of his disposition. He is a big couch potato, but does love to go outside and run and walk. You are his best friend of you are on one of the couches in our living room. He thinks he is a lap dog! Don't be scared to adopt one of the Bully Breeds. They can make great pets. If you go through a rescue, they will fully vet the animal. In our case, we had to have one that was dog and cat friendly. Pictured are Biggun and Ursa, our senior Choc. Lab. Biggun camping with us several weeks ago. Biggun pretending to be a lapdog. And Max, our senior Llasa Op Su (11). All three are lazy as can be. Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk1 point

I’m thankful Baja Burrito. And fruit tea. I’m thankful when I open my refrigerator. Every single time. Without fail. It’s like I’ve won the lottery every morning. That almost sounds like I’m kidding, but I’m not. I’ve been enough places in the world to know what a blessing it is to have safe food whenever I want to consume it. I can provide for my family and not have to worry about where our next meal is coming from. That is a huge blessing for which I am thankful.1 point

Well son's first deer is now in the freezer. I am getting old. I used to be able to process a deer in a couple hours. Now it took the of us 4 hours and I am exhausted. Oh well good food and a great memory for the son. Good Thanksgiving so far.1 point

My neighbors were kind enough to let one by for me, little 4 point was down at the bottom of the hill at the end of my food plot so I invited him home for dinner with my .270 Vanguard using 130 grain Winchester Super X. Hit him in the spine, and out his shoulder, 13° down angle, DRT. One of his tines was broke a while back, lots of bark in the broken area, so their fixin to rut I guess. A friend asked me to get him one so I figured this one would do, because I can never tell the size of does through my scope unless their real tiny, and since he is paying for the processing I want to make sure it's worth it for him. All local processors are at capacity though, until maybe tomorrow at one place, the rest until after Friday. I'll pack him in ice until then, then if no openings I'll either keep him, I process my own, or see if I can find another processor. So now, I have to be super careful to not shoot a button buck today. Now watch, one of them trophy buck will come by and tease me.1 point

Thanks Hozzie, At first I thought I could get by with just having Kaseys ashes on my TV console and I did for a few weeks and I would look at her urn and after a while I realized that I don't just want another dog. I "NEED" another dog in my life. As much as I love Kasey and will forever!!! I need that companionship that I have had most of my life back in my life. I think anyone that has had a dog all their life kind of knows where I am at right now.1 point

I'm having the same problem, I keep being drawn back to one dog. I'm pretty sure if I saw this face in person I would be hooked . This statement in her bio is a big plus. She's very well mannered and does well when left alone. She would make a great walking partner or couch potato! As long as she's got her human, she'll go with the flow!1 point

Good on you to home an older dog. Bandit and Brigand were both pups when they came to live with us. Due to our family environment, that is optimal. It has made it hard looking for a second cat, as our current cat. Bongo, came to us as a kitten, he is used to living with two Black Labs. We have intermittently sought another cat, but it would need to come as a kitten, not an adult. It is difficult visiting shelters full of adult cats. In the words of Bob Barker, be sure to spay and neuter your pets. Don't add to the population.1 point

Did my last one online as well. But had a small glitch. Instead of the last photo taken...I received one with a photo from at least 2, if not 3, renewals back. I had all black hair and beard in it. Not even close to that now. I was told I could get another if I wanted. Just haven't gotten around to it.1 point

This is Mike Leach, Washington State head football coach being asked a question by someone getting married. The response is classic. I actually think he could be a good candidate for UT. Not because is this, but it does show his clear ability to reason :-). Sorry, couldn’t figure out how to post just the video.0 points
