  2. Are you serious? Your premise is there is a middle ground with anti-gunners and there is not, that is the ploy that suck you into their game where they set the rules and the only legitimate end result is no gun owners period. Everything else is red herrings to get you in the door. It's the old candy van trick. As to your list. 1. Already in place but relies on the competency of the government to watch itself, watch itself. 2. Again already done, but some states have seen fit to insert themselves into the middle man role to generate revenue for doing nothing. Again, TICS is already setup to allow direct access, but the government gets in the way .... again. 3. Already law, but the government doesn't enforce the law. However, when it does it tends to ruin good peoples lives and not the criminals. So, this has already been agreed upon and still isn't adequate for the anti-gunners. Refer back to my first statement.

  3. Her entire front end is trashed. This was a big deer. I wish I would have weighed him. Never thought about it. Needed to get him dressed and hung so I could get to work. Now I need some pork and I can make Sausage!

  9. I got out very early this morning because I just had a good feeling about the cold air and rain being gone today. I pulled in the driveway planning on hunting the East stand. As I got out for whatever reason I walked straight to the West stand. Heard one blow right bed daybreak on the neighbors property. Had the sneezing 6 point buck come in behind me around 7. Had two does pass behind me around 8. Decided to move to the other stand around noon and checked my camera before I climbed up. THIS morning at 8:05 the big 8 pointer came right by my stand. Same one that was in the yard Monday when I pulled in eating acorns. At 8:30 he passed back by it the other way. I was like “Are you kidding me!?” Haha Sat the the rest of the day and didn’t see a thing. Going back to try and catch him tomorrow. First daylight pictures I have of him and I wasn’t in that stand.

  11. Your wording is even poorer here unless you really suggest government and law enforcement get into clairvoyance. I do agree to some extent on one point you brought up. There should be a freely accessible, “untracked” website to check serial numbers for firearms. Not people, just the guns to see if they have been reported stolen.

  12. My parents went through it with Mom's mom. It wasn't fun. Among other things, I have vivid memories of Mom sitting my sister and I down after the funeral and telling us with tears in her eyes to never, EVER, let her be the burden on us that her mom was on her.

  13. It is a tough calling for sure but can also be a rewarding too once the race has been run. My wife and I are also involved in a situation that could develop into one like the one you are facing. I would add a couple things: 1. I happen to work for a national company that provides exactly the type of care you are talking about. I will PM a contact closer to you to speak with. They may not be able to serve Newport but they can answer that and regardless can be a good resource for information on options, programs, etc in East TN. 2. Seek out family caregiver support groups via churches, facilities, etc. You all need the support they can provide you. 3. One funding option that might apply, and that very few know about, is for veterans and surviving spouses, and is called the Aid and Attendance benefit. Like anything with the government it involves a slow application process and it is income and asset based. Worth looking at potentially! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. This is the same argument that leftist authoritarians use for banning firearms: "There should more laws to make these people do what I want them to do." Are you sure this is the kind of legal philosophy you want to advocate? Whisper

  17. Some good ryes there. You might also want to add Pikesville Rye to your list. A good premium rye without the premium price. For a budget rye, give Dickel Rye a shot. For very little money, it's one of my budget friendly favorites. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  19. I sell guns at the Walmart I work at, here in Vegas. (pro tem) We are required to charge $25 for a background check They have to have a valid state issue picture ID from NV or one of our neighoring states, excepting California. (Hey, we tried.) Still have to run them through filling out a 4473. We have to call BATFE Carson City for the background check. IF the buyer has in hand an up to date and valid NV CCW card, no background check charged, no background check executed, as NV already did a far more extensive one giving the guy his CCW. Here we have three different immediate outcomes: -Proceed. Finish the sale, put the item back in its original package, tape it up, and management walks the customer out the door with it. -Delay. Either NV of the Feds can issue a three business day delay for further investigation. -Deny. No sale. If he has a CCW, it's an automatic Proceed. Where we are at, we can put a rifle or shotgun into the customer's hand, if all goes well, within 2-3 hours. Less if they have a CCW card. To my best knowledge, WM does NOT sell pistols, except in the state of Alaska. If the perp in this terrible thing had filed a 4473 with us, I am uncertain as to how things would have proceeded, given that the USAF apparently dropped the ball updating his data. Had he survived, a copy of a 4473 showing its having lied about felonies, dishonorable discharge, and mental institutionalizing would have been each good for up to 10 years in a Federal jail and up to $250,000 in fine. Sort of icing on the cake. We are allowed, those of us at the pointy end, to use our own judgement and deny a sale at any time, and only be accountable to our store manager for it, and that as an accountability courtesy. In eight years, I have had to do that twice, and ALWAYS got in front of the matter with Store within the half-hour. I've had to stop sales because boyfriend/girlfriend/whatever was assisting them filling the 4473 out, beyond not not knowing how to use a keyboard or translation problems, and have gotten called every several name one can think of for it. Before we were required to ask for and take picture ID before handling the weapons, I stopped would-be sales because the non-purchasing party was handling the weapons, and the purchaser wasn't. I have, had, and will stand behind my conduct. Not all of us who sell firearms are complete idiots, and as stated above, I do not know all the details on this perp's transactions. I will NOT be like the ijit in Massachusetts some months back that sold ammo -without asking for ID -to someone obviously drunk -at 3AM... which ammo got used in a drive-by shooting, after the drunk MINOR supposedly handed the ammo off to another party. I apologize for the topic drift.

  20. What bothers me through the whole thing is how existing process failed. He was guilty of a crime that he spent more than a year in prison for (a felony.) He was guilty of domestic assault. He had been involuntarily committed to a mental hospital. And subsequently escaped. He had been charged in a case of animal cruelty, later dropped as part of a plea bargain. He was denied a carry permit... This is a person that never should have been able to purchase a gun for MULTIPLE reasons. Yet still be bought one. This is not a call for more laws, but a reason to re-evaluate the existing. I am not a proponent of 'let's call them all mentally ill,' because that is a very slippery slope, but this is a glaring example of someone that should have been watched, identified and prevented. It baffles me, given the steps I have had to go through due to NICs and Brady delays to clear my name, with a mostly perfect record (I am not an angel,) that someone so glaringly 'off' made it through. For the record I have cleared my name and obtained a KY CCDW. However half of my last dozen purchases have come at a Brady Delay.

  23. Keeping in mind that churches (especially large ones) can often be as risk averse as any business, I interpreted John's comment about the LEO type training to be a wind out of the sails argument/solution for those that would not want to implement security teams due to possible legal risk involved. Havinging helped a couple churches establish and implement similar security protocols I can say that their biggest concern is usually the perceived risk of a churchgoer dropping/loosing a firearm that a child could pick up or someone accidentally shooting someone. Believe it or not many pastors and church administrators are not gun people, some are, but most I have encountered are not, so they often have to be educated. With the uptick in these types of attacks maybe some will educate themselves and be more open to reasonable security measures. My dad is a pastor of a small church in California and he has been carrying in the pulpit for years. He said that he has the best view in the house from the pulpit and he shoots/trains regularly to maintain proficiency. He takes being the shepard of the flock seriously in many ways. I know the Warrior Poet personally and I can assure you that he does not think that everyone needs to have LEO training to carry a gun, though as a firearms instructor he obviously feels passionate about people bettering themselves through training if possible. I don't think anyone can argue with the benefits of that.
