  1. Many years ago I spent many Saturday morning at the old Shelby County Rifle and Pistol range near Memphis. One of the regulars was an older gentleman who came out pretty regularly. He was straight and lean, but walked sort of halt. He always wore khakis, shirt and pants, and wore a cap that bore some kind of Navy emblem. He shot an older Colt M1911, which he told me his father had carried in World War I and he had carried in World War II. He also had a similar vintage S&W Combat Masterpiece. He drove a fairly new Ford pick-up truck, plain Jane otherwise. Now the range was closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and one day he asked the range officer, Mr. Bobby Keen, if he and his wife would drive him up to Hohenwald, Tennessee so he could do some banking business, as he had gotten to the age he no longer felt safe driving on the highway. He would furnish them lunch. They agreed, and on the morning appointed, he picked them up and Bobby got behind the wheel. After having driven a while, he pointed out a roadside park, and they pulled over. This gent pulled out three brown bags, each with two cheese and baloney sandwiches, a piece of fruit, some chips and napkins. Also there was a jug of sweet iced tea. Well they all ate their lunch and drove on into town. Bobby and his wife waited while he conducted his business and then he returned ready to drive back to Memphis. Out of curiosity, pone of them asked why he did business with a bank so far from Memphis. "Why," he replied, "this is the bank I own." At his death the obituary noted he was a chief financial officer of Union Planters Bank of Memphis. Bob Wright

  2. It was an honor to meet wade195(Doug) today. He is very much a gentleman a pleasure to talk with. We had a short but nice visit. It's always nice to be able to meet another TGO member and get to shake their hand. My Son In Law saw me looking at the Ruger rifle the other day and asked me if I was planning on doing some deer hunting and I said I don't own a deer rifle so guess not and he said would you go if you had one and I said I might go down to Ronnies (my sons place) cause he has about 4 nice ladder stands up and about an hour later my Tommy(SNL) came back and a laid the funds down for me to buy the rifle and told me Merry Christmas. So Doug was nice enough to bring it to me today and I am now the proud owner of a great 243 and enough ammo to hunt with................

  6. I have a few guns that have special meaning to me, and as such doubt that I'll ever part with them. This S&W Model 36 Chiefs Special being one exception: Now there's a story (Oh, No! you may groan!) behind this gun. I was at the range one morning and mentioned to a good friend of mine that I was looking for a Chiefs Special. Now this friend was one of those who I knew only from the range, but a friend nonetheless. He told me he had just traded one at a local gun shop. I believe I left him standing there, so quickly did I depart. I hied to that store and there was the gun sitting in the display case, and I filled out the paperwork and went over to an ATM to get the money. And that afternoon I had my Model 36. Some time after that my friend died. He was the father-in-law of my gunsmith, and in time I learned his wife, the daughter of my friend, was trying to assemble her father's gun collection. Well, Christmas was approaching so I told my 'smith about having the gun. Well, he bought it from me to give to give wife for Christmas. He told me she teared up upon opening the package and finding that gun! Bob Wright

  8. Actually no. Receiver flex, receivers within spec but slightly off all make a difference. I've never had heights issues, but several country varieties I've had windage issues. I'd have to set optics all the way right or left to get on target. AK receivers are so loose that you can have a solid functioning AK with a crooked receiver and never notice till you put a side mount on and look down the receiver. You can also run into the issue of canted front trunions that actually throw you left or right (consistently) depending on the barrel push. This will also create a similar issue.

  10. Right, won/loss record is nearly meaningless when you have a rich and loyal fan base who will spend lots of money traveling to a meaningless football game. If they get a bowl game, it'll be somewhere warm.

  11. Working on loads for my gun now. Running a 270 Parker full formed sabotless and 67 gr of H4198. Just over 2600 fps. Love smokeless muzzleloaders.

  12. My CVA is on and hoping for a good opening day. I went to .458 sabots and a 405 gr. swaged lead bullet in front of 2 777 pellets and have not lost one yet. Last year was the first time I got skunked in Muzzle loader. The weather and the rut were not in sync. The year before I shot a nice 8 point the second weekend. Good Luck to all and be safe.

  13. I began carrying a Single Action maybe six or seven years ago. I experimented with a couple or more of holsters, finally settling on these: They are sort of custom made from Graveyard Jack holsters, being modified Tom Threepersons style. And, these are made right here in Tennessee. http://www.sixgunleather.com/ Bob Wright

  15. I see your point, but I view the .45 as protection and the 9mm as an accessory, like a nice belt or watch

  16. "Why do you have so many guns? You can only shoot one at a time..." Yeah, I hear some of the same questions, or used to anyways. She has started to understand more over the past 2 years.

  17. Gee, I would boycott them, but I already did that with the NFL as well as others a couple of years back. I guess the only thing left for me to do is ignore them as usual. Their opinions just don't matter to me.
