in the spring of 1946 my older brother returned from WW II, when I was about nine years old. Among his souvenirs was this Mauser M-1910 .25 ACP pistol. The caliber designation read "6,35 mm" and none of us knew what that meant. My Dad took the gun to old J.G. Schmidt's in Memphis and learned it was .25 ACP. He bought a box of cartridges for it and we went down to an uncle's farm in Mississippi: We got some cans from the trash pile and set them on a fence post. After we each tried our hand and the box was expended, the can still stood unscathed. I kept one live round, the first of my cartridge collection, and determined then and there I would learn how to shoot a handgun, and to learn everything I could about them. Still learnin'. Bob Wright P.S. After my brother's death the pistol was passed on to his son. Shortly before his death, my nephew gave the gun to me.4 points

Nobody should have to sell his favorite handgun to take care of a devoted dog's final expenses. Bersaguy, please send me a PM with your mailing address so I can made a modest contribution to help out a fellow gun owner and dog lover. You would be doing me a favor by allowing me to acknowledge the relationship between you and Kasey. Love is too scarce in this world today; we should all appreciate it whenever we see it. Cheers, Whisper4 points

Update from hipower to all who have contacted me or sent messages to Doug. I would have been happy to coordinate all this and take it directly to Doug, but since several people have mentioned sending it directly to Doug...that seems best for him. I'm about to pm Doug for a mailing address and send it to all those who have contacted me. I'll send it asap. Thank you all. It's a wonderful thing you are doing. I know Doug appreciates it. And so do I. I'm very glad to be even loosely associated with a group that will step up and help a man 200 miles away in some cases. You are a great bunch of men!3 points

It might come as a surprise to some that I went through a double action revolver phase. In an attempt to learn all I could about the handgun, I tried the DA revolver for awhile. One of my favorite .357 Magnum revolvers is the S&W Model 586, the Distinguished Combat Magnum. The first I bought was a 4" model as soon as the model was announced. I quickly put on a pair of S&W combat stocks: I liked this gun so well I decided on a 6" companion to it: These grips, incidentally, were on a K-22 that was in the shop. I commented that they were handsome enough to buy the gun for those stocks. I went back a few days later and the .22 had been sold, but the purchaser put rubber Pachmayrs on it and left those grips. Asking price was $10 so i went home with these grips. After a couple of weeks, I bought this gun to put them on. I had gone through a few Model 29s and ha Smith & Wesson make me one up with a 5" full lug barrel. This became my favorite .44 Magnum DA revolver: This was my first Model 29 and was one of the early Model 29s. I had many troubles with the gun and finally S&W told me to return it and they would install an "endurance package" to correct my problems. While they had my gun there I asked them to fit a full lug barrel. They told me they had just made an 8 3/8" full lug barrel and they put that on my gun. This gun shot like a .30-30 rifle out to about 100 yards or so, but it was heavy and unwieldy, and I later had Ed Mason gunsmiths cut it back to 6": After the surgery: Been an interesting study for some sixty years or so. Ok, Need to update. Right now with what has been sent or being sent tomorrow, I have a little more than enough to cover all expenses to take care of Kasey.............. I have no way to say THANK YOU ALL for your kind words and help with her final expenses. I was going to express my thanks to all that gave but wanted to get their permission first. 1 has already said he does not want to be known so will wait for the rest to PM me before I put out any names. All I say is this is the greatest site on the web which I knew that before today but what has taken place today just proves it. I can't thank everyone enough for their kind thoughts and generosity in helping a fellow member in need. I am humbled by all the acts of Kindness that has been shown to KASEY and I !!!!!!!!!!!2 points

Note that ATV's are only allowed at Turkey Bay. Vehicles must be plated for most of the roads. And yes, it's a really nice place.1 point

If whomever is handling the fund to help out with this would please PM me I would be honored to chip in, I have a little mad money saved up towards buying my next Glock, but I don't mind a bit to wait a little longer. We lost our little Rosie last year and it hit the whole family really hard, BG shouldn't have to put a thought into the expense of taking care of his dear friend if we can help.1 point

It's kind of strange that you mentioned that. I have had a few friends that know me well along with family and they have said that they have never seen such a relationship between a man and his dog like there is between Kasey and I. They have mentioned a couple times that they fear if either one passes away they fear the other will go shortly after. I never gave that much thought until the time is near. 'Im kind of relieved a little in the fact that it will most likely be her so I can make sure she is cared for properly before and when the time comes. My daughter and Son In law said they will be with me and my son said he is going to be there also.1 point

I thank you for your kind words. When I got her I had to bottle feed her as a puppy because she had no mother and I actually rescued her from a from a very large wild Tom cat that was trying to kill her. Cat weighed about 20 lbs and I put a 22 bullet in the cats head and picked Kasey up and brought her inside and had to stop bleeding on her nose and ears and gave he a bath. She still had that smoke blue in her eyes. I called the vet and she said I would have to purchase some dog milk and bottle feed her so I went there and got 4 cans of dog milk and a they gave me a bottle to feed her with. From the time she went on hard food she ate what I ate. If I grilled Pork chops ahd had pork chops, If I grilled steak I grilled 2 steaks. Your gonna love this but of all the foods I ate and fed her she loved Deep fried Crappie or Shell cracker filets the best. Anyone that knows me and Kasey personally knows there was never a shortage of love from either side. Your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated.1 point

17 years is a long time to share unconditional love and happiness. You have been lucky to have her in your life for so long and she is lucky to have you. My little guy only made it to 13 and my only regret was not letting him have anything he wanted. If I could do it over, I would've made him his own ribeyes and chicken and ribs and whatever he wanted. He was a chow hound had him cremated and look at him everyday as well as the pictures of him all over the house. it looks like Kasey likes to eat as well and I'd be happy to chip in too. I think you mentioned a while back about making her a steak and I hope you guys share some more great meals and memories! In my thoughts and prayers!1 point

Doug, I'd be honored to chip in if you'll allow it. Losing a dog always breaks my heart so I know how you feel.1 point

There is another issue that may not matter to us. The NRA is constantly under attack. Steering this thing away from congress, and into a black hole can be interpreted, by folks with less knowledge, as an show of "common sense". If I lived in a swamp, I may use tactics like that.1 point

Doug, I sit here sniffling. Not sure I trust myself to say much or I'll break down with and for you. I made the same decision some years ago. It's very hard. May God Bless and keep you both. May I offer to help you with this? I don't know how much you need, but I have a hideout 50 in my wallet I'd be honored to contribute. I know how much Kasey means to you, and I'm sure she would appreciate what you are doing. But if possible, I'd like you to keep your Bersa. Guys...I know there's a lot going on out here now, but can't we help Doug here? He's a good man and a friend to many of us. What say you all?1 point

I'm sorry Doug....I went through that myself a few years back and swore I'd never go through it again. Now I have two. God Bless and hang in there.1 point

I hope so. Honestly that would be pretty ok, push it off on the ATF while knowing they cannot interpret "Machine Gun Language" any differently and then it fades away six months from now after everything has died down. With that being said, assuming that the bill is actually just a bill and was presented to actually pass, I guess I'm just numb to the whole thing in a big way now. With Legislative and Executive branches both Republican controlled, I guess that ANY legislation that is passed will come across as a betrayal to me. I never falsely believed that Republicans were truly 100% Pro-2nd Amendment, but a lot of them present themselves as that way. However, when it comes down to it, a lot of "Pro-2nd Amendment" people are simply the "hunting rifle don't touch my six-shooter, I don't own any of that military type stuff and I think it should be banned variety". In all honestly, I think I generally like 100% anti-gun people more than the pseudo gun loving hypocrite described above. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, I just happen to find a lot of error the in the extremely strong "Pro-Gun Anti-Scary Gun" type of people out there.1 point

A difficult time indeed. Wife and I lost our boxer 9/16/17 to seizures, happened right after a walk that she always enjoyed. We had her cremated, I put some of her remains in all our vehicles, and just buried a portion of her remains out in the back yard where she liked to lay in the sun and roll in the grass. She will always be with us as she did not like being left at home the past couple of years she was with us. Prayers for you during this time.1 point

If it wasn't for the tragic boating accident, I would own over 40. I don't know what a resident of NYC would do, except move.1 point

If you want to be a gun owner that may include some exotic firearms, here's my best advice, Move out of New York!1 point

Well, I guess after trip to vet today the news was not good. The vet took Xrays and she had a growth on her liver and even though she is not in any pain the vet sent pain meds home with me to make sure I can keep her comfortable. Blood tests will be back by Friday to confirm her prognosis. I refuse to allow Kasey to suffer at all and at her age the vet said she probably would not survive the surgery. I'm going to dedicate most of what little time I have left with her and feeding her everything she loves to eat. She is 17 years old and been my best friend all that time. I have decided to have her cremated and keep her with me as long as I am alive. For those of you that don't know Kasey her she is.0 points
