There has been enough platitudinous malarkey written here and other places to fertilize Texas... Some of us here (...me, at least...) think this whole thing is part of a bigger issue... That issue is the Post Modern World View that seeks to de-construct everything... period... That includes government (...especially, if it's a republican form of government...), the legal system (...no one should be oppressed, questioned, or detained by brutal police, even if he resists or does something dangerous and stupid; especially if he is "a person of color"...), The Capitalist System (...It's oppressive and some folks get more than others... that aint fair...), White People (...they are the original colonialist, expansionists, oppressors ya know... All indigenous peoples are greater than them...They had a paradise before the white man came...), and lastly; its about "... I don't like the duly elected president of this country and i'll politicize everything in an attempt to make him look bad and spit on everyone of you country bumpkins who voted for him..."; and i may even spark enough civil unrest to undo everything that the 2016 election brought to the USA... We can quibble about whether Trump should have started this conflagration; but it's irrelevant... He did... On a personal basis and from a political standpoint, I think it was a masterful move that allowed him to wrap himself in the flag, tap into the disgust of most working Americans, and call out and expose for all to see the over-privileged babys of the NFL, their enablers, and cheerleaders as what they really are... A bunch of Overbearing, Selfish, Anti-Law and Order, Self-Centered Anti-everything but what they think is appropriate on all levels nitwits... It's playing the "tribal game" that the demorats love so well on his terms... A helluva idea, i think... It paints these clowns for exactly what they are... There are those here who think that somehow their freedoms have been lessened as the result of this feud... I got news; they aint... Just because some official of government (...Trump..) says somethin ya don't like on a personal basis; it doesn't follow that it smacks of "suppression of political expression" and disbandment of "The Arena of Ideas"... Far from it... It doesn't follow that their speech, no matter how heinous and distasteful to some ears, has somehow nullified the Bill of Rights and the Constitution... You enjoy the same right to "speak in the public forum" and be free of government oppression for it that you always did (...except for when the demorats were runnin things... Ask some of the right leaning groups about it that had to talk to the IRS...), no matter what Donald Trump says, and no matter who he picks a verbal slug fest with...He said his piece; they are sayin theirs... That's how it works here with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; which these narcissistic babies, and some of you here seem to think is a one way street... You need to think a bit and understand that right of "Freedom of Speech" in the Arena of Ideas extends to all citizens... Even the president... Think about that a bit... It includes, you, me, "them", even the Trumpster... The lesson here is that there are lotsa folks, some of them here, that need a civics lesson... I aint nearly as afraid of Donald Trump takin away anyone's freedoms, as i am the mindless bunch of children and the damned Democrats and Establishment Republicans takin em away... Your mileage may vary... Thus endeth the lesson... Rantin leroy, the "Free Speech for All" zealot...3 points

Back about 10 years ago a friend sent me this. He has long since past but I enjoyed reading it ever so often and it helps me to keep faith in people. It's kind of a long read and I bet you find it as rewarding as I did. I was at the corner grocery store buying some early potatoes. I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily apprising a basket of freshly picked green peas. I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas. I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes. Pondering the peas, I couldn't help overhearing the conversation between Mr. Miller (the store owner) and the ragged boy next to me. 'Hello Barry, how are you today?' 'H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas. They sure look good.' 'They are good, Barry. How's your Ma?' 'Fine.. Gittin' stronger alla' time.' 'Good. Anything I can help you with?' 'No, Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas.' 'Would you like to take some home?' asked Mr. Miller. 'No, Sir. Got nuthin' to pay for 'em with.' 'Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?' 'All I got's my prize marble here.' 'Is that right? Let me see it' said Miller. 'Here 'tis.. She's a dandy.' 'I can see that. Hmmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home?' the store owner asked. 'Not zackley but almost.' 'Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at that red marble'. Mr. Miller told the boy. 'Sure will. Thanks Mr. Miller.' Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me. With a smile she said, 'There are two other boys like him in our community, all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples, tomatoes, or whatever.. When they come back with their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or an orange one, when they come on their next trip to the store.' I left the store smiling to myself, impressed with this man. A short time later I moved to Colorado , but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys, and their bartering for marbles. Several years went by, each more rapid than the previous one. Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that Idaho community and while I was there learned that Mr. Miller had died. They were having his visitation that evening and knowing my friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them. Upon arrival at the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could. Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an army uniform and the other two wore nice haircuts, dark suits and white shirts...all very professional looking. They approached Mrs. Miller, standing composed and smiling by her husband's casket. Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her and moved on to the casket. Her misty light blue eyes followed them as, one by one, each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary awkwardly, wiping his eyes. Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller. I told her who I was and reminded her of the story from those many years ago and what she had told me about her husband's bartering for marbles. With her eyes glistening, she took my hand and led me to the casket. 'Those three young men who just left were the boys I told you about. They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim 'traded' them. Now, at last, when Jim could not change his mind about color or size.....they came to pay their debt..' 'We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world,' she confided, 'but right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho .' With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting underneath were three exquisitely shined red Marbles. The Moral : We will not be remembered by our words, but by our kind deeds. Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath.2 points

Wow…. The NFL might be okay with these thugs disrespecting our flag and those that served, but I bet they won’t be okay with players telling fans not to come to the game. That’s a pretty bold step for Walker to be giving away the Titans money.2 points

OK, this post if for your information and is only to help you make a choice between the available options. I don't promise that my recipe will not cause skin cancer or turn you into a zombie after prolonged use. Do the research for yourself, or use a commercial mix. Always follow the manufacture's instructions and precautions. Permethrin is a popular and well known treatment for ticks, chiggers, mites and other biting insects. It is often marketed as a mosquito repellent, but it doesn't actually repel any insect. What it does do is kill insects that come into contact with the treated fabric. IT IS NOT APPROVED TO PUT ON YOUR SKIN! This is intended to be applied to your clothes or gear prior to use and allowed to fully dry before contacting your skin. There are several commercially available options that are directly marketed towards outdoor sportsmen. Here are the most popular options: REPEL brand sold "Permanone Tick Repellent" aerosol for year in an orange and blue can. Now they sell it as "Mosquito Stop", but it is basically the same stuff. Coulston's Duranon Tick Repellent is a similar aerosol spray with the same percentage of permethrin. This can often be found at your local Co-Op or hunting supply store. Sawyer's Tick Repellent is a newer popular option. It is available at some Wal-Marts and some Dick's and other big box stores. It is supposed to be FDA approved for use on clothing for human. The first "Homemade Permethrin" recipe I tried was using DurationTM 10% Permethrin mixed with water to make a .5% concentration which I poured into spray bottles. This was a much cheaper option than the 3 listed above. However, Duration got more expensive and harder to find so I moved to my current brand. It used to claim to be the "ONLY" FDA approved 10% concentrate approved for use on clothing for humans. Currently, and for the past 2 years I have used Martin's 10% Permethrin to mix with water and make a spray treatment for my hunting and hiking clothes. I buy Martin's online. Usually it is available on Amazon for a decent price. Martin's is not FDA approved for a clothing treatment for humans. DID YOU READ THAT STATEMENT? With that said, I have done quite a bit of research into the various permethrin mixtures available. Most are marketed toward treatment of ticks and mites on Cattle, Dogs and other Livestock. Many of these are not suitable for clothing treatments because they contain a percentage of petroleum to aid in the sticking on cattle and other livestock. This is the same for the permethrin lawn treatment products that are available at Home Depot and Lowes. Lot's of people have used these, but from what I have read it's safer to avoid the products that list petroleum in the ingredients. I buy the 16oz bottle of Martin's 10% Permethrin and mix it with 2.5 gallons of water in a 5 gallon bucket. The mix to get to .5% is 6.4 ounces per gallon of water or 1oz to 20 oz of water. Lots of folks use 1oz to 15oz of water, that gives you .625% and is stronger than needed, but fits nicely in a 16oz spray bottle. My mix makes it just less than .5%, but I can tell you from experience that it is completely effective at killing ticks. I have found many dead ticks on my treated clothing. After I mix up a bucket, I dip my clothes in, wearing gloves, I wring out the clothes back into the bucket. I dipped 5 pairs of pants, 5 shirts and a couple sets of base layers this years. I still had enough left in the bucket to fill 3 16oz spray bottles for reapplications. In the past 3 years I have had ZERO tick bites. I have found a few on me, both dead and alive. No seed tick attacks, no chigger attacks, and it does kill mosquitoes if they stay in contact with the fabric. I also use Martin's to mix up a tick dip for my dogs. I follow the instructions provided with the bottle to make the dog dip. I used it on both my dogs and have not seen any sign of skin irritation. I left a tick on my dog and sprayed it with the dog dip and the next day the tick had fallen off. I assume it died. There are no fleas or ticks on my dogs so I am a believer that the dip works. BTW, the dog dip mix is many times weaker than the .5% that I use for clothing. Don't use the .5% mix on your dogs and don't use it in any mixture on cats. Please remember this is a poison. Do not use the mix bucket for any other purpose. Do not use the spray bottles for any other purpose. Make sure you take care to prevent contamination to unintended areas. Do a little research and you will find that Permethrin is a very versatile insecticide and has lots of useful applications around the house and farm.1 point

I bought this Cimarron/Uberti Open Top Navy .38 Special/Colt back in January of this year. I loaded up some mild .38 Special rounds, about as much steam as a .22 L.R., and this has proved to be one pleasant gun to shoot: Most of my guns for many years were heavy loaded, fire breathin' magnums or potent .44 Specials. Age has sort of mellowed me a bit, and this gun is, as I often put it, "a reloadable .22 R.F." The sights are terrible, and I had to use judicious use of a file to get on target with the gun. Two unexpected features: The barrel stub directs the flash forward and upward, so the gun, and my hand, stay cleaner without getting crud on the cylinder. And its the only revolver I have that allows cleaning the bore from the breech end. Wouldn't mind having a .44 Special like it. Bob Wright1 point

Last year I bought this Ruger New Vaquero, a .45 Colt, at a local gun shop: I had no use for a 7 1/2" barreled, fixed sight .45, but I did like the grips. So, I took those grips off, bought these, put them on the gun and sold it: Now I had no gun that those grips would fit, since they were the New Vaquero with the old style XR-3 grip frame. So I was forced to buy this .44 Special Flat Top: Now I had a gun for my new grips! Things seemed to work out pretty well, I think! Bob Wright1 point

My RCBS seating dies use the same seating stem for .44 Special, .44 Magnum, and .45 Colt, so I keep the seating stems separate in a wooden box. (I have this affinity for wooden boxes) My die is already set for crimping, so in order to get the correct seating depth, I made up some inert rounds: I then run the correct dummy round up into the die, then insert the seating stem until it contacts the bullet nose. And, just for a newbie to show off, my shell holder box: Bob Wright tipoc1 point

When I was a young tad, my Dad took me to a rodeo. It took place at the Memphis Fairgrounds, where the high school football field is now, Ken Maynard was the star of the rodeo. During intermission, Dad took me to the concession stand for a coke and hot dog. While we were there I saw a cowboy, dressed in Levi's and leather chaps, and wearing a holster and gun belt, in which he had a "red handled gun" as I remembered it. Single Action or not, I can't say, as for a few years after I was born I did not know too much about guns. But those red grips!! I determined then and there I would have a gun with "red handles." Many years apassed, but then one day, from Don Collins of Collinscraft Grips I got these: They are for a Ruger Super Blackhawk grip frame, and are vermilion wood from Africa, i think. They are so disillusioned and ignorant that they think hrc will be president if Trupm/Pence were to be gone. I really think they believe that. Seems like a lot of folks wasted 8 years in college for that degree in musical basket weaving.1 point

I think the people who died fighting for us, and our freedom, deserve the silence and respect during the anthem. They earned it. Anyone who tries to take that moment for themselves irritates me1 point

To me, the anthem is a solemn time of reflection, where focus is upon the flag and the men who have stood behind that flag over the last 200+ years. What these players are doing is bringing attention to themselves, when all attention should on the flag. It's distracting, disrespectful and just the wrong time to do your protest. Besides, they way they are doing it is stupid. Most people, myself included, really have no idea what they are protesting. I know it's about cop brutality, blah, blah, blah, but what specifically? I don't see them continuing the protest afterwards, unless it is to bring more attention to themselves in the form of boasting that nobody can tell them what to do. But beyond that, I don't see any of them actively trying to make anything better off the field. Maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. To me, the NFL and Team Owners are on the wrong side of this fight. NEVER go against patriotism. NEVER! You will never win. They should have nipped this in the bud a long time ago and took a stand. Even if that stand was to be neutral, by letting the players feel however they want on their own time, but not allow the disruption to the game. Instead they are backing the players, and are looking just as unpatriotic. The NFL, Owners and Players are all saying Trump is being divisive and trying to split America, but I say that it was them that have been divisive. They knew from the beginning that many Americans don't like this, but they did not care. It has been dividing us since CK did it last year, but "dammit, I'm a player and you gotta listen to me". Now Trump speaks his mind and the entire league loses their collective minds. He has just as much right to speak his mind as they do. Now, sometimes I wish he would go about things a bit differently... Calling them SOB's may not have been the best term to use, but you know what? It's what many of us think and say to like-minded friends. It's refreshing that he speaks his mind without political-correcting every sentence that he speaks. Sometimes its embarrassing, but it is refreshing. Besides, I see these players do and say way worse things than "SOB" every week. If they are that big of a P***Y that that is what offends them, perhaps they should try ballet instead of football. Lastly, the NFL itself is being horribly hypocritical here. They have fined players for wanting to do their own form of protest or issue awareness because the method took place in the form of an addition to a uniform on the field. The player that wanted to wear pink in honor of his mother with breast cancer, the player with a mental illness that wanted to wear green shoes to bring attention to mental health day, the player that wanted to wear purple cleats to bring attention to domestic violence. All of them fined or told "No you can't do that". But now the NFL says the President can't tell THEM what to do? They put the kibosh on many good forms of issue awareness, but cop bashing while kneeling over the American flag is the one they get behind? Shameful!1 point
