I have seriously begun to question how many of you TGO regulars actually go to the range and shoot your guns, and how many of you just buy them to let them sit at your house. Or worse yet, how many of you just come here to talk about politics because politics and guns see to be inextricably linked to one another. So, let's have some fun related to guns. The next time you are at the range, take a photo of what you're shooting and what your targets look like. It doesn't matter what distance. You don't even have to disclose it. If you want to stand right in front of it and pull the trigger for the tightest group possible, that's fine and you don't have to tell a soul. At least you're out shooting! To start us off: This was a recent outing with one of my old faithfuls. This M&P 40 was produced in 2005 and is one of the earliest production runs of the reborn M&P line from Smith and Wesson. I have owned it since it was new and it has about 10,000 rounds on it now. It has attended six combative pistol classes and has never failed me. Not a single time. Never a failure to feed, fire or eject. I have put a seemingly endless combination of sights on it over the years but it currently wears Ameriglo Hackathorn sights. I haven't even replaced the recoil spring on it yet. No sign that I need to, either. This grouping was shot at about 15 yards and is two magazine's worth (30 rounds) of 40SW.2 points

I usually go at least every other weekend to either, N Range or The Gun Room. This is yesterday, 17 rounds with a G19 at 10 yards. I shot roughly 200 rounds all together.2 points

Test run of my recently obtained Bowie Tactical G19 cut to a 26. Before I shot my target holder 9/4/17, out in the valley.2 points

Can't really call where I shoot a range, but it a paved lot back in a hollow. Makes for privacy though. Ran up there at lunch a couple weeks ago. Been too busy since. Not bad for me since it was only the first or second time with each gun. Right to left is a CZ P-09, EAA Windicator (using .38), and a S&W M&P 2.0 .45.2 points

Holster maker input here. Echoes the above statements, get a good belt first, that makes all the difference in the world. Second make sure the belt loops/slots/clips match the width of the belt. I.E. 1.75" loops for a 1.75" belt. My final and personal thought is go with something that has two points of suspension on it. There are single clip deals but I've always found those to want to rotate forward or rearward on me which is not what you want.2 points

If you are in to Podcasts, the "Stuff You Should Know" series has a very interesting episode about chiggers. I want to say it was about a year or so ago.2 points

I have no experience with the Taurus pistol you reference, but I have carried daily for the better part of 30 years. I can, without reservation, say that a quality, purpose made belt is the foundation of a carry system...and it is, imho, a system. The belt should be specifically made for handgun carry with the rigidity and shape to support the weight of the handgun and accouterments (spare magazine(s)). The holster should mate the belt... i.e. the belt slots on the holster should match the belt width. Otherwise the holster will shift around through normal daily movement and you will fidget with it, reach down and touch the darn thing, and constantly be re-positioning it. Kinda defeats the purpose of concealed carry! The same condition holds true for your magazine pouches. I personally carry AIWB (appendix) with a Dale Frike Archangel on a Milt Sparks leather gunbelt and it's an excellent system for me. (I'm carrying a Glock 17 as I type this). I also have Kramer gunbelts and have used both Milt Sparks and Kramer leather IWB holster strong side in the past. There is a plethora of quality holsters and belts being made these days. But you may well find, like most that carry for any period of time, carry systems are a very individual thing. We are all unique as to our body shapes and dress style, and our needs. I think the majority of folks that choose to responsibly go armed have had to go through several iterations to find that "system" that works best for them...hence the reason why most of us have a "holster box". The "Best" holster for "you" is akin to the "best" shoes for you...gotta try them on and see. Good luck with your search and decision.2 points

There's nothing in there to suffocate. Contrary to common belief, the chiggers don't burrow into you, nor do they lay eggs in you either. - OS2 points

A very sad situation for Ray who at the time may have felt that was his best alternative to end his pain and suffering. Unfortunately the LEOs he used as his tool have to now carry that. Sad all the way around.2 points

I always keep two large cans of OFF Deep Woods in the truck. When one can is empty I immediately replace it so I am never with out it. Last year when I got them so bad I went to the doc it was because of a simple mistake. I had treated all my clothes and boots with permethrin. Well it was warm that day so I switched to a light pair of hiking shoes (untreated) instead of my boots. Will not make that mistake again.1 point

After working on an AR10T that had issues the factory failed to fix, Im not impressed with them. No adjustable gas is a big concern. I bought a M1A in 1977. After 8 years with it I sold it so I could by a Springfield SAR48. The M1A is a decent shooter but a walker after as little as 8 fast consecutive rounds. Pick up a guide on how to national match bed a M14 and you will see why they are very finicky shooters hot. After you own and spend time behind a FAL, those other 2 don't generate much excitement compared to the proven right arm of the free world.1 point

After watching the first episode it just reconfirmed my belief how ####ty we treat so called allies. We left Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese to rot after WWII. Instead of giving them what they needed we kissed the ring of the French and let them continue to rob the country of its resources and treat the Vietnamese like slaves. Shocking how Ho and his boys ended up hating us so much and taking the help of the Chinese and Russians instead. I never believed we had any business there in the first place and knew in my heart we would never win short of going nuclear. When my brother died on hill 881 I knew this was a pointless war. I served two tours there and I'm as hawkish as they come but after seeing first hand how people died taking hills and valleys and just turned around and gave it back over and over again. Over 56 thousand US Troops died and millions of Vietnamese as well for frickin' what? All these years later and my wonderful country that I served for 26 years still makes me so mad it's unbelievable sometimes. There is no sense of loyalty or doing what is right by people in the higher ups and civilian government. It's all crony politics, money, power and lies. Forgive me...I'm rambling but dammit I hated that war and every totally wrong thing we did there. Nothing much pisses me off anymore but this.....this....well still kinda does.1 point

Be aware that there is corrosive surplus .30/06 out there. Cleaning after using it is not a bad chore in a bolt action, but properly cleaning a gas-operated action can be a chore. Before you buy any surplus ammo, research the headstamp to see if it is corrosive. Don't just take a seller's word for it; some don't know better, but some will lie. The best thing for you to do is probably to just buy Prvi .30/06 M1 ammo. It's good reloadable brass, and priced below the usual commercial sources.1 point

Some friends of mine had Straight Talk. They don't live as far in the sticks as I do and they recently swapped to Sprint because Straight Talk wasn't working out for them. They have said that Sprint's signal/reliability is much better. I am with Verizon but, because I think their price for unlimited data is too high, I may change to Sprint if it continues to work well for them as Sprint seems to offer a much better deal on unlimited data. Where I live just about the only option for high speed internet is via satellite dish and, again, that is way too expensive so I use my phone as a mobile hot spot. That is why it would be really nice to have unlimited data but all the data in the world does no good if the signal sucks where I live. I wish these places would have 'loaner phones' so a person could try out their service at home and see if the signal is reliable before spending $$$.1 point

First episode had a lot of the background on why we were involved in the conflict to begin with, after WWII. I read the book, The Ten Thousand Day War, a few years ago and what Ken Burns documentary presented was also in that book. Haven't had any bad dreams in a long time. Looks like a well presented documentary. I've never had but one person to specifically thank me for my service there, other than the people at the VA. After I came home and saw the crappy way we were treated, kinda lost my trust in the politicans and the government. Will be watching the rest of the episodes.1 point

We never ran sirens on an alarm and we turned off our overheads when we got close. But these guys seem to know they have a couple of minutes. I’m sure they know the alarm is going off when they smash through the door whether they hear it or not. Takes a minute to dispatch it (provide cars are clear) and takes a couple of minutes (at least) for Officers to get there. They’ll probably get caught on a traffic stop by a cop paying attention. Or someone needing a deal.1 point

Chig-away used to work for me, we used to have them (they may still) very bad at Ft Bragg. But I never really got a bad infestation, just a bit on the arms and such. I always had chig-away, clear calamine lotion, as well as cortisone 10 (prescription then) on hand. It turned out I was not affected by any of the poison ivy or oaks just chiggers and ticks. Around here, ticks are the only issues I have, so far.1 point

In cases like that, you should always reply to your own ad and mention that there is a new lower price so that the thread rises back to the top. As for somehow seeing a history of the prices, there's nothing in the software that does that. It's up to you as the author of your own ad to decide whether you want to include the original price and the marked-down price or not. Honestly, this is no different than a lot of places. Craigslist, EBay, etc. all show the current price rather than a history unless the author of the ad includes that information in their listing.1 point

This certainly helps you guys none, @Steelharp, but maybe offers some consolation: https://williamsonsource.com/franklin-jewelry-heist-photos-released/ The news story above is an account of a jewelry store robbery here in Williamson County where the thieves cut a hole in the roof, climbed down into the store, and then spent hours cutting through the wall into the vault to make off with a score of expensive items. Whatever security this store had in place, it didn't cover what these folks pulled off! HOURS spent inside.1 point

We will be hosting a skills and drills match for September. This is geared towards new and newer shooters to teach them match basics, rules, general ideas. So if you, or someone you know, is interested in action pistol shooting and has been hesitant to shoot a match please come join us. This would also be a great event for junior or lady shooters. You will need any handgun .22-.45, at least 50 rounds, and eye/ear protection. If you have a holster and extra magazines those will be beneficial. Also we will be building walls to use as range props, so if you have tools please bring them e.g. Drills, hand saws, staple guns, tin snips. Registration is open to members and non members. Join us to help us build new walls for safer matches and faster setup. After that we will host skills & drills stages to teach the basics of USPSA rules, shooting, and strategy. Lunch to follow. PLEASE Register here: https://practiscore.com/building-walls-and-building-skills/register1 point

The law specifically states that you can have a handgun in your car in a school zone. You just can't take it out of the car. I carried a laminated copy of the law in the glove box when I used to pickup grand kids at school. I never used it but I was ready. Cherokee Slim1 point

I know it's a bit late but one of the best remedy's I've found is run a tub of bathwater as hot as I could stand it pouring about 1/4 or so of a cup of concentrated bleach into the water as the tub filled. I'd soak in the tub until the water cooled down. Then stand up, sluice of the water as the tub dries and towel dry. It dries the skin oil and really reduces the itching. I've used topical ointments, Benadryl and cortisone too.1 point

I'm sure it's possible that the little bugs I saw were not necessarily the bugs that feasted on me. The bites are definately chigger bites though. Wow, they tore me up! I'm pretty sure I know the stretch of weeds on my land that may be their infestation. I may have to trim those weeds with one of these puppies: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Lincoln-Electric-Inferno-Propane-Torch-Kit-KH825-01/1003411111 point

Driving home today I am being fallowed by a LEO. I see up ahead a flock of turkeys, I slow down but hit one. It went into the air and landed on the LEOs car, he hit the lights and pulled me over. I asked if he was alright and his reply was he was OK. I ask what I was pulled over for. He said I flipped him a bird.1 point

VEPR 12 for me and a Stoeger M3000 for my wife. We are using them to shoot trap and skeet. Had an issue today. Was told I could not use it because it has a "pistol grip". RSO said if the TWRA officer approved it I could use it. So off I went to the check in where the officer was. He said it was for shotguns with a pistol grip only and that shotguns with a stock were fine. He even checked it out and gave me his card with approval. So back at the line I am getting ready and the RSO leans in and said some people will likely be offended by my gun. He also said he didn't like the magazine because he can't see how many rounds I have loaded. As if he can see how many are in a pump or other autos. But in the end I had a lot of fun shooting it today. Bet some people thought I was odd by taking up a fighting stance . But I think I did pretty good. Wasn't the best but definitely not the worst. I've got about 150 rounds through the gun now and I am starting to get it figured out. It is one of the softer shooting shotguns I have owned. Shot 75 rounds today and my shoulder is a little red. Trigger leaves a lot to be desired but for what it is the trigger is good.1 point

Super tiny and red. Couldn't really see individual ones but like a cloud of multiples... nearly microscopic bug. Didn't see any "attached" afterwards like a tick. Hope they weren't little ticks! Doctor hooked me up with some meds! Steriod and 2 cremes. Feels much better already. Still a little itch but not miserable like before1 point

If you could see em, they ain't chiggers; they're deer ticks!1 point

That pic is from the inside and you can see the thumb latch on the deadbolt. Locks only provide security up to the strength of the door, glass door frame, etc. Security for a business like a gun shop needs to be layered to slow down the thief. Given time and tools its easy to break in, but if you can make it take time and make it a pain in the a$$ they will look for an easier target.1 point

Go to the doctor. I got bad on my ankles opening weekend of bow season last year. After two sleepless nights I went to doc. The otc medications just were not cutting it. She gave me a prescription cream that flat stopped the itching. Also gave me a pill to take at night to help with itching so I could sleep. Best decision I made was going to see the doc. I HATE CHIGGERS!!1 point
