So my wife is going to start using a 12 gauge for skeet/trap shooting. She bought herself a nice semi auto to replace her pump .410. We are going to the range this weekend to give it a try The last time my wife went they gave her a hard time for using a .410. If they only knew the skill needed to bust clays with a .410. She shoots 20+ consistently with her .410 so with her being able to sling more lead with a 12 gauge I think she will do better even better But that is not the real reason they are going to get their feathers ruffled. The real reason is I will be shooting skeet next to my wife using my VEPR 12. I cannot wait to see the faces or hear the comments from those shooting a more traditional shotgun.3 points

Well Vet visit is over and her vet figured out that she had glands that were full and they emptied them and she said that they did a test that showed a bacteria in his intestinal tract. She provided me with a 30 day supply of probiotic supplement to be put in her food to correct the issue. She got her first dose of it with her supper and will get 29 more in next 29 days. Keeping fingers crossed it works. Thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. I know some folks may think it's just a dog but she has been with me for going on 17 years come November. Many of my buddies tell me she has me trained really good to do her bidding.............LOL. I can't really argue with them as she is quite spoiled for sure.3 points

Anyone who's married would know the money in the husband's wallet is really hers. He's just holding it for her. Don't believe me? Ask a judge.3 points

One additional thing. Take a lesson from old recording guys. Put a copy of this "tune" on a cd or usb key with your info and mail it to yourself. Leave the package sealed and store in a safe place. The Postmark on it constitutes a verifiable date of creation and secures it as your property.3 points

So today my wife and I found ourselves at Bass Pro walking around. She found a shotgun she wanted so she decided to get it. She filled out the background and we went to eat while waiting for the background to came back. After eating we left the restaurant and she had to go to the restrooms so went to the gun counter to pay. I asked if she passed and the clerk said she passed the background without a problem. I pulled out my wallet to pay and the clerk said that I could not pay for it. I asked why and he said it was illegal for me to pay for HER gun. I tried to explain that anyone can pay as long as the background came back and he held up a mousepad saying straw purchases will get you 10 years. I laughed and about that time my wife walked up so I walked away. While waiting on her I decided that I would speak to a store manager just as a FYI. I explained what had happened and he was adamant that I could not pay, even with cash, and that doing so was a straw purchase. Even if the background is already done it is still a straw purchase according to him if I pay for someone else. I tried to explain that once the background is done anyone can pay and he said no because their "expert" has said it constitutes a straw purchase if someone else pays. I asked about buying it as a gift and he said doing a background for someone else is perfectly legal as long as the person doing the background pays. At that point he offered to let me do the background for my wife's gun if I wanted to pay instead of her. Seems like they have things flipped. I can't pay because it is an illegal straw purchase if I pay but letting me do a background for someone else isn't illegal as long as I am the one who pays for the gun.2 points

If you're not keeping yours as a souvenir or to reuse for the 2024 eclipse, Astronomers Without Borders will be collecting them to redistribute to people in Africa and South America for their upcoming eclipses. As long as they aren't scratched or damaged they can be reused. Keep a watch on this page for more details as they become available. https://astronomerswithoutborders.org/ FYI - The warning on some glasses about discarding them after 3 years is out of date if yours are ISO 12312-2 compliant. That 3-year thing was part of the old ISO standard which was replaced in 2015. Some manufacturers still printed it on their glasses, but that's a bit like asking your barber if you need a haircut. Don't believe me? NASA said it, not me. https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/safety Read the "Note:" paragraph just below the map of the USA.2 points

But honestly outside of the payment snafu the service was great. The kid behind the counter helped us out a lot and took it like a champ as we were trying on half the shotgun rack. And the price wasn't too awful bad either.2 points

Totally. If I could swing it, I would not even hesitate to buy a pair of Stainless Detonics .45ACPs to wear in a double Alessi Shoulder Rig. The Colt XM177 is my favorite AR variant. I have built my main rifle to mimic it in modern terms. I have carried a Bali-Song (Benchmade Type 44) for well over twenty years. However I think the 9x19mm is superior in modern form to .45ACP based on capacity vs. capability. So I carry Glock 19s. Oh, and I have used the same Zippo for 20+ years, and I ride a Harley. Though not a Low Rider. I eat Mountain House foods... The list goes on. Jerry Ahern brainwashed millions of us in the early 80s. And we know it, and accept it. Other than Dragonlance, The Survivalist is my other book series I collect. I have complete bookshelves dedicated to each series. My wife tolerates it, to the point of naming my daughter Takhisis.2 points

Going to make a run to the Vet today. Kasey has been having issues with going potty recently so going to get her checked out. Praying it is diet related and I can just change her diet but never know till get her checked. Maybe I know it might be sounding silly but would appreciate a few prayers for me and her. She has been with me a very long time and is my best friend for sure. Thanks Bersaguy aka Doug1 point

Their high darkness would exacerbate the durability and sun tan issues. You'd have to get really close to see what you're doing.1 point

Stoeger M3000 inertia driven in 12 gauge. I shot it and it really does not kick much at all. My VEPR seems to pound me compared to the Stoeger. It has sold me on the system.1 point

The leveling kit is included in the scope mounting kit above. When I look back, I would have been money ahead buying the whole kit at once. FWIW, I like the Tipton vice the best between it and the Lyman. I have both1 point

Very cool! Thanks for making that video for those of us that only had the glasses to watch it by. Here in Cleveland we had 1 min 3 sec totality and I was giddy watching it happen.1 point

Plus, it means that at some point I will not be able to order online with no tax. Cabela's not having a TN location works out great for me. I am 20 minutes form it if I just have to run in, but it is over the VA line.1 point

They'll have to send it to an FFL in GA and you do a background check and pick it up there. If they'll do that.1 point
-
If he is suggesting that you can fill out the background check for a gun that's going to someone else and that's okay because you're the one paying for it, he is completely backwards on the law (i know about gun bought as a gift but i believe that's a different situation that the Manager was describing.) Its about who's taking possession of the gun, not who is paying for it.1 point

3 of my coworkers spent a significant amount of time outside watching the entire eclipse. One has already called in saying she feels really poorly. Haven't heard from the other 2 but they are an hour late so far. I'm thinking that we are on the leading edge of the eclipse zombie transformation. Logically you would think that we would hear from places like Oregon first but it is possible that they've all turned and there is no one to report in... It may be time to head to the boooonker1 point

Yes, Venus was the very bright one to the west. Mercury was to the east and much closer to the sun. You can see it in a lot of the pictures being posted to the Interwebs. It's a bright speck just to the upper left of the eclipsed sun.1 point

I'm another strongly influenced by Ahern's writings Murgatroy...both in Combat Handguns magazine and of course the Survivalists series. Very innovative and original books. I still have my original series from the 80's sans one book...vol 5 iirc...but they are yellowed and would probably fall apart if I tried rereading them again LOL. I must confess Natalia Tiemerovna was a most intriguing character!1 point

The eclipse sure is lasting longer now than it was earlier. It's been dark for hours...1 point

Definitely a lot cooler than what I expected. One of the neatest things I've ever seen. Watched it at my wife's office in Antioch.... you wouldn't belive the parade of private jets coming in to land at the airport in Nashville. Already making plans for 2024 with 4+ minutes of totality!1 point

Jerry Ahern was unique in the Survivalist series in that his protagonist didn't carry a pair of .45ACPs, he carried a pair of stainless steel Detonics Combat Masters in a double Alessi shoulder rig. His back up was a AG Russel Sting bootknife (which I own a CRKT remake of.) He rode a Harley Low Rider, and preferred Ford Trucks. Everything was name brand. Nothing was mentioned in passing or as a generic. All of his weapons were Magnaported or Metalifed. Gunsmiths were namedropped, etc. Jerry Ahern was a contributor to many mainstream magazines of the era and was a big part of the survivalist movement. Reading this in the formative years in the shadow of the Cold War, it struck a chord. I never thought of things as a generic, I always thought of them by name, model and brand. That was what I must have. Even as an adult I learned the value of a dollar and research, but I was still jaded by a pulp novel of thirty years ago.1 point

This is probably worth it for those Nightforce scopes. I know you can do the work by just following the instructions that come with it. I own a 1" lapping kit and a Fat Wrench. The instruction sheets are almost worth as much as the tools... https://www.amazon.com/Wheeler-Scope-Mounting-Combo-1-Inch/dp/B002PQKGSI1 point

I was thinking of John Thomas Rourke myself, but with vertical holsters. I am leaning toward the Galco VHS system, since I am a holster whore. The nice thing about having multiple of the same platform is not having to duplicate accessories.1 point

I can't believe that no one has mentioned Printers Alley which is all clubs and bars and many of the older Country stars owned clubs in the alley. It has been around since the mid 40's!!! Those clubs were open for business long before lower Broadway became a Honky Tonk Strip...................1 point
