  1. That was awesome! I loved the 360 deg sunset/rise. My son put out a sheet, and we could see the shadow bands. We got this pic from Cleveland with my DSLR right at totality.

  2. I just got this about two weeks ago and have been busy adding a few things to top it off. This is a SIG MCX Pistol w/ Sliding Brace in 300BLK. I installed the Troy Battle Sights, TRIGCON MRO, BCM Hand Guards and a Hand Stop. Haven't got to shoot it yet been a little busy, here are the specs. SIG MCX SNAKEBITE lmtd. edition of 300, it has a 9 3/4" Bbl. 1:5 Twist done in two tone FDE/BLACK a Sig Sliding Arm Brace. Let me know what you guys think about it. Here are a couple of pics. and I'll post a range report as soon as I have time to get it out and run some rounds down it.

  3. As I stated earlier, I intended to sit in my back yard and watch it. I'd been watching the sun's path and knew that if not too cloudy, I'd have a good viewing. It was. Though it was at times cloudy, which actually helped me see the progression, I had a good spot. I watched the slow darkening, and the colors of the clouds and on the ground. I got a great view and was totally surprised when the outside yard lights came on. I just was so enthralled it all came on so quickly. I had chills as I was watching. It was a gift from God to see what He created and how intricately, and beautifully it all came together. I said a thankful prayer for such beauty.

  4. My father-in-law passed on a deal to me that I couldn't pass up. I picked up a Ruger 10/22 from him with the original stock as well as the Butler Creek folding stock he'd bought but didn't care for. The jewel of the deal is a Ruger 96/22 in .22 mag! I am beside myself with this new addition. It's beautiful and my first .22 magnum of any kind. I know they were only made for several years and that is cool in itself. But it's really going to fit in with my Marlin 336 and Savage 99e nicely. I told my Dad about it and I think he may have been as excited as I was. He told one of his long time friends about it that night. They guy said "Hang on a second." and proceeded to pull out of his safe the exact same rifle. My Dad's jaw dropped and of course asked what he wanted for it. His friend said "Oh, I'll never sell it. I just keep it in the safe." haha It killed Dad to hear that. Anyway, he's coming in to visit next week and he can't wait to see it. I hope we have time to get out and shoot it together. Anyone else on here have one?

  5. All I can say is wow! Glad I work from home. It was awesome here on the land. About 4 miles south of center line. Took this from cell phone through my spotting scope.

  9. It's kind of a religious thing for East Tennessee hillbillies. For about three minutes this afternoon even God stops making shine. Folks here are gathering up their livestock because they think the animals will go crazy when the moon photobombs the sun. Heck, that's been happening for days.....two legged critters are driving hundreds of miles and spending thousands of bucks to see it. Most Floridians will miss the event, but I understand out of solidarity they will gather respectfully and bow their heads for a few moments in shade. I hope you manage to make it to a Ground Zero near you. Today's eclipse will also cause a rare political phenomena: For the first time since Trump got elected, even Democrats are going to be looking up.

  11. So it is no secret that my heathen was raised around guns. She has been shooting since she was four years old. She started with a single shot bolt action .22 rimfire rifle and has progressed to where she can and does shoot an AR at the range. As she turned 9 last year she was eligible for 4H Shooting Sports this season. We signed her up and her first practice was in April. At her very first practice her coach inquired as to her experience shooting. I explained that she had a handful of years under her and I hoped he didn't have to unteach too much of what I had taught her. To my mild surprise he stated that she was a pure natural and asked if she would be interested in shooting the first match of the season, less than two months away. The Heathen is right handed, but left eye dominant. I have raised her to shoot left handed rifle. I am also cross dominant and it has never hindered me to shoot off-hand to my dominant eye. The coaches embraced this and let her do her own thing. They are all very impressed with her. They call her a natural and have been teaching her on Target Air Rifle, Sport Air Rifle, Target .22 and Sport .22. She also shoots archery. With a recurve. Nearly alone in that discipline as nearly everyone else shoots compound (bare, hunting and target.) The coaches are awesome, and have gone as far as to special order her a left handed Target Air Rifle and a left handed Target .22. They have that much faith in her talent. And on to that talent. Saturday was a dreary rainy day in Kentucky. But it didn't stop her. It was her first competition with less than two months experience on a Target Air Rifle. She placed 3rd. We are beyond thrilled.

  15. Jamestown was outside the path, so I drove my better half south and west. We wound up at a church in Bon Air, on US 70 a few miles east of Sparta - right on the totality center line. In 57 years, this is most awesome astronomical event I've seen. I heard some nondescript canines howling, and a few random gunshots - typical Monday up here on the plateau.

  18. Fairly certain I heard and saw a Panther. It was making eerie growling sound off in the distance. I saw some movement but it was right at totallity so all I saw was a dark shadow so it must have been a black panther. Maybe I should follow up on another old thread with this.

  20. I'm a grown man, I didn't "lay off" work. I took vacation after my dentist appointment this morning. Went to a friend's place in Farragut so caught maybe 1:30 of totality and didn't have to deal with any traffic.

  21. My wife wouldn't shut up about the paper glasses, so I also fashioned myself a tinfoil hat for the festivities. Bullfrogs began croaking in the pond off in the hollow beside my house, and we saw a couple of bats fly over. This was very different from anything I've seen. I'm glad I got to see it.

  23. Street and security lights came on and the frogs started making their noises as well as crickets. about 10-15 minutes before totality I got pictures of the sun filtered through the trees on to the ground and you can plainly see it acted like a pin hole and projected all these crescent shapes on the lawn.

  24. I picked up a pair of snake boots for the first time this year. Man these boots are comfortable and fit true to your shoe size. Start shopping for them and you'll see that's not real common. I'd ordered the Irish Setter VeprTrek and returned them after I found these for less than half price. I wear a 10.5 and the Irish Setter boot I wore a 12! Thought I'd post them for anyone who may be shopping. http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/magellan-outdoors-mens-landman-snake-hunting-boots

  25. I have both and enjoy shooting both. Honestly, I can't tell you I see a big difference, especially shooting IDPA. It may be more in my mind, but I shoot the 5" mostly, and that is the one I put the apex barrel in. Naturally have more $ in it. I use a Dawson FO front, but just put a yellow Ameriglo TCAP on a 4" and will shoot it more now. For 3/4" I don't think it really matters especially if the money is right. IF $ are the deciding factor go 4" and put the extra money in the Apex products for an overall better gun.

  27. I had mentioned this possibility to my wife an episode or so ago as the possibility. We've seen the huge bears and elephants in the White Walkers army...so what about the dragon? Would it continue to breathe fire then? Or could it throw blasts of ice or super cold air to freeze others? Maybe we'll find out now.

  28. I have several M&Ps, all apexed. The 2.0 triggers in the 3 I have shot may be a little better than the 1.0 but not much. I just finished apex on a 2, big improvement. I would get a deal on a standard 1.0 and apex it, including the barrel. I have tried 320s and xdm. Firmly a MP fan.

  35. I didn't either but it made me do some reading when he told me what he had. Agreed. I'm really glad he said something to me about it. Funny part of the story is he was calling to ask me how to get on TGO. I told him and said "Let me know if you need help navigating the site". He said "Oh I've got a couple guns I'm gonna sell". I said "The site is down for construction, don't know when it will be fixed, whatcha got for sale?!" He started laughing because he knew I was joking and asked if I was interested. He's actually happier since he knows the guns will stay in the family now.

  42. Today was the State Match. Her first year. Six months? since we started this as trip as a competition shooter. She came in 5th Overall in individual for .22 Target in her age group of 9-11 with a score of 104. Her team took 1st. She also scored the highest of anyone on our team in Recurve Archery in her age bracket at 25, however it was not high enough to place. For a first year, and quite a packed crowd, I was very impressed. Only 5 kids in her age group scored over 100 in .22 Target, with the highest being 179, her teammate and good friend. We are VERY proud of all the kids from Shelby County. Her friend, the same mentioned above also came in first for Target Air Rifle. I do believe she will be getting fitted for her jacket. The Heathen's final discipline was BB, however that was an extremely competitive field with all the top shooters shooting well above 250. While we nearly broke 200, it was not enough to place in the top ten. Next year looks very promising for her, I have already made the deal that if she brings home two separate 1st Place trophies from any invitational, or a single 1st place from State, I will buy her a $200 set of rhinestone covered eyes and ears from a local shop. She is ecstatic. We will take her to a final end of year shoot at the practice fields where I will let her loose with her AR and some Tannerite to show off to her friends.

  43. We just got home from her second meet. She got to sight in her new .22 target rifle last weekend. It was hot and she was tired. She wanted to roll through the stances and not continue prone, so we got a semi solid zero on it and called it a day. This week was the Fleming County Invitational. Her first meet with her new left handed .22 Target and .22 Sport rifles. She took 3rd in .22 Target Individual and 1st in .22 Target Team. I will try and get pictures up when we get the trophies on Tuesday. I am BEYOND thrilled with her, and she could not be more excited. Her mother is concerned as the eventuality of logic states that she will go to a match and not place, but so far we are two out of two. The upside though is that we will definitely be attending the state invitational.

  44. Proud doesn't even begin to describe it. She and I have always had fun shooting. Her mother accepts it, but doesn't participate much. We did the soccer thing for several years, but she didn't enjoy it. As soon as she was eligible for this she asked to join. The idea is to help her with her concentration, patience and attention. She is amazing when she has the rifle in her hands. There were several hundred kids at the competition Saturday. The coaches had stated several times that they expected her to place, but when I saw the sheer number of competitors, I wasn't as certain. She however was. She had a lot of fun. Some of the alumni of the county team have gone on to the UK Shooting Team, which is now the Heathen's goal.
