  1. For some odd reason lately I've had a hankering for a S&W revolver chambered in the mighty .32 S&W Long. Scratched that itch today at the gun show with this pristine example. Think it was made around '68 or '69 and appears unfired outside of the factory. Even had the original manual and registration card in the box.

  2. At the time of sinking the Indy they did not. But, that sub and its' crew survived the war. That means that they most likely found out after the fact. It is interesting and often educational to learn things. It is what drives the human race forward. Fortunately there are enough people with open minds in the world to more than counteract those that have closed minds...

  6. My father-in-law passed on a deal to me that I couldn't pass up. I picked up a Ruger 10/22 from him with the original stock as well as the Butler Creek folding stock he'd bought but didn't care for. The jewel of the deal is a Ruger 96/22 in .22 mag! I am beside myself with this new addition. It's beautiful and my first .22 magnum of any kind. I know they were only made for several years and that is cool in itself. But it's really going to fit in with my Marlin 336 and Savage 99e nicely. I told my Dad about it and I think he may have been as excited as I was. He told one of his long time friends about it that night. They guy said "Hang on a second." and proceeded to pull out of his safe the exact same rifle. My Dad's jaw dropped and of course asked what he wanted for it. His friend said "Oh, I'll never sell it. I just keep it in the safe." haha It killed Dad to hear that. Anyway, he's coming in to visit next week and he can't wait to see it. I hope we have time to get out and shoot it together. Anyone else on here have one?

  7. Another fine "should have stayed in the line up" gun from Ruger. 22mag is perfect in that lever gun. Great score & investment.

  8. That's exactly what will happen to it, along with my others. My daughter's going to have a bigger safe than her husband Thank you, it has very little use that's for sure!

  13. Try and get a rental car in Nashville this week! Avis was quoting $176 a day last Monday, and they were only ones with anything available (our corporate site checks all the airport vendors and Enterprise off-airport locations).

  15. Garufa pretty much hit the nail on the head. The area itself is safe but don't stray far to the south. The Pink Palace Museum is not too far to the east on Central and worth a look. You didn't say when you would be visiting but the Cooper Young Festival is on Sept. 16 and is a unique experience if you're a people watcher. I absolutely hate crowds but had a blast the time I went. Just thought of something else. I don't know if you are into tattoos or not but if so, David Evans at Underground Art is the best in Memphis. It's in the 2200 block of Young st. Even if you're not, they will welcome you looking around the place.

  19. I like many here own a TIG machine but for day to day farm stuff I would rather be squirting with a mig machine. Just is faster, is a bit more forgiving when your steel isnt quite perfectly matched (read filler) and when laying upside down you can reach it with one hand if needed. That said like everyone else says buy the best you can afford and in my eyes 220 is a must, DO NOT buy a 110 machine, even if you have to pull power to use it, a 220 is worth its weight. Also buy good gear, a quality welding helmet, something auto darkening is nice, it will save your eyes and make your learning easier. Dont skimp on gloves either.

  22. My first CZ was a 75 P-01 made of aluminum. Great gun, still have it, but I also wanted a higher capacity CZ so I picked up a polymer CZ P-09 which features a 19 round magazine. Love both of these firearms! CZ makes some awesome guns.

  23. Very few people in the world can give you the perspective this sub crew could. I think it would be interesting to hear it too. Who knows how long it took them to confidently confirm the news of the bombing on the sub. Hopefully we can learn enough as the human race as to not use these weapons again.

  24. I have a couple of the J-frame .32s and they are great little guns. Very accurate with almost no recoil. When the arthritis in my wife's hands got to where she could no longer handle the recoil of her .38, she ran across a 2" Model 30 at a gun show. That's the same gun as your's, just with a round butt. I put a set of boot grips on it and lightened up the trigger a bit for her and that little .32 served as her defense gun. She loved that thing because she could shoot it very well and it didn't hurt her hand. A .32 may not be much, but it sure beats harsh language. Playing around with her gun prompted me to later buy 3" and 4" Model 31s. They're loads of fun. If you want to use it for self defense, I recommend the Magtech 98gr SJHP round. These have an excellent reputation for accuracy, penetration and expansion. This load makes the .32 a viable defense gun. Ya done good there Bubba!

  27. Somebody call @willis68 - maybe he go get it. This is pretty cool. I think there was still a surviving crew member as of a couple of years ago. Edit to add: as of 2015 there were still 31 survivors. https://www.google.com/amp/relay.nationalgeographic.com/proxy/distribution/public/amp/2015/07/150727-uss-indianapolis-reunion-survivors-sharks-jaws

  31. Pretty much the same gun except it holds one more shot and isn't .38. With a square butt this J frame feels really good in the hand. He actually had a 36 right next to this one in the same condition w/box but I tried not to look at it as I didn't want to go overboard.

  32. That looks like my Model 36, but it isn't. Every time I see something like this, I regret selling any of my S&W revolvers when I was young.

  33. I have not hunted Squirrels in probably 20+ years. I used to always have a couple dozen in the freezer but moved inside the city and can't hunt them and son lives to far away now for me to go and hunt his place for them. I do have a bunch of them all around my house and yard and it was kind of funny. When I first moved here almost 18 years ago I only had 1 very small gray squirrel that would come out in back yard out of fence row and lokk and dig trying to find food. Once day while at TSC I saw a squirrel feeder on sale so I bought it and some squirrel mix and put it up in back yard on a tree. It took the little squirrel to get on it and I watched him and I busted out laughing when I realized he was to small to open the lid and get a piece of food out of it. He was a determind but finally gave up. That night after sun went down I made a small platform and attached it to the tree and put some food on it. The next morning I was drinking coffee and here came the little squirrel up the tree and onto that platform. He ate about every thing on it. Evidently he told a friend cause next day I had two show up. 1 bigger one that could open the lid and the little one that ate on the platform. Those 2 was all I had that winter. The following Fall was a lot different. I think they must have called all their kin folks cause I could not keep the feeder and platform full as they would empty it in a day. I went back up to TSC and got 2 more feeders and another bag of food. That bag of food lasted about 10 days. I did some research and learned that squirrels were corn eaters also so I bought a 50 pound bag of whole kernel corn and came home and dumped it in a big plastic trash can I bought for the food. The little critters ate a hole in the can lid and we getting inside eating the corm. We to TSC and bought to metal trash cans. Filled one with squirrel food and 1 with bird seed and put up 5 hanging bird feeders and today I have a total of 8 bird feeders and 5 Squirrel feeders that I will begin putting food in come fall after I take the Hummingbird feeders down..............LOL I get a lot of enjoyment now just watching all the wild life I have here.

  36. Rhineland arms used to make a 45 ACP conversion for Mausers. It was cheap too, something like $200 for everything including the barrel. Here you go, $160 and that includes the magazine well to accept 1911 magazines. http://www.troupsystems.com/mauser45kits.htm

  39. Buy the biggest machine you can afford. You will outgrow a 110v machine quickly. They are good for sheet metal but struggle with anything thicker. I do all of my mig welding with an ancient Esab Migmaster 250 and tig with an Everlast tig machine. If you have access to a tig machine learn to weld with it. You have so much more control of the puddle and you can see immediately how the puddle is reacting to changes since you can see better without all the smoke and spatter from a stick or flux core machine. There is plenty of good info here. One thing I have noticed is how hard it is to see through dirty lenses. You weld much better when you can see what is going on. The clear safety lenses in front of the shaded lens are cheap. Buy a few to fit your helmet. They are almost impossible to clean once they get filthy.

  40. The AK 47 in its Russian version (airborne is preferred) is a simple reliable weapon. in 1973 I found one after 4 months in the dirt of Suez canal. it was rusted. full of mud. I washed it in the canal. it was loaded. cocked and bullet in the chamber. it operated like new with its original muddy magazine. auto and single shots
