I worked on these off and on for 10 years and it's a testament to the durability of these wonderful birds. I retired in 92.2 points

You can always turn it down, you cannot always turn it up. $100 to double your capabilities is a deal. It also depends on what you will be welding. If all you do is thinner material a 230 is not NEEDED. But if you are going to do any heavier gauge stuff a 110V may not work well. Also look at the duty cycle. You want a welder that can handle what you are doing without taking cooling breaks. If you are going to be using it to fix things, versus building things, you could get away with a lower duty cycle. If you get a high voltage welder you shouldn't have a duty cycle problem at the lower settings. The first welder I used was a cheap 230V model. If I turned it up past anything beyond 100 amps it would shut off after 5 minutes and take at least 15 minutes to cool before you could turn it back on. I used box fans to extend the welding time some but it still turned itself off before I was done welding. I am far from an expert, plenty of people here with WAY more knowledge than I have about welding. I am still trying to figure things out myself. Personally I would buy a good AC/DC TIG/ARC machine in 230V. It isn't as simple as a MIG but you can weld EVERYTHING with a AC/DC TIG/ARC welder. You can weld aluminum and steel. Now if all you are going to weld is steel and ease of use is important it is hard to beat a 230V MIG on gas. With it you can pretty much weld anything you would need to as a home user.2 points

Buy the biggest machine you can afford. You will outgrow a 110v machine quickly. They are good for sheet metal but struggle with anything thicker. I do all of my mig welding with an ancient Esab Migmaster 250 and tig with an Everlast tig machine. If you have access to a tig machine learn to weld with it. You have so much more control of the puddle and you can see immediately how the puddle is reacting to changes since you can see better without all the smoke and spatter from a stick or flux core machine. There is plenty of good info here. One thing I have noticed is how hard it is to see through dirty lenses. You weld much better when you can see what is going on. The clear safety lenses in front of the shaded lens are cheap. Buy a few to fit your helmet. They are almost impossible to clean once they get filthy.2 points

I had one of these my dad bought me when I was a kid. He got rid of it for some reason and I always wanted another because it was such a fun little pistol to shoot. Finally picked up another yesterday. Stainless Ruger 22LR/22WMR New Model Single Six: Who else likes these? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I'm assuming that after Bran has creeped everyone out with his new ability, they will accept when he tells them that Jon is Rhaegar and Lyanna's kid, but the book will be key to convincing everyone that Jon is not a bastard and is in fact a legitimate heir to the throne. Maybe Howland Reed will show up just for good measure. Having a dragon lick Jon in the face will convince the other half of the equation, probably.1 point

The duty cycle is the best reason (or excuse) for getting a 230 volt. I have a Hobart 175 mig and have hit the duty cycle one time after owning it for years and that was welding a DIY bumper kit for a Jeep. That's a lot of welding on 3/16 steel. I have also used 110 migs on thinner steel that I was hitting the duty cycle more than welding. It's frustrating. What ever you do get gas. You'll be glad you did.1 point

They usually crane it on a flatbed and haul it to a hangar for inspection and assessment. Then they will either repair it or strip it for parts and scrap the rest. I have seen an A10 belly in once before and actually fly once again. Amazing aircraft.1 point

New look feels a bit more modern. I love it. I have to say, TGO receives more upgrades than any other forum that I visit, whether regularly or through occasional browsing. And it shows, TGO looks and feels better than any other forum interface I have seen.1 point

He has no idea. He still thinks he is a bastard. Brandon will be the one to tell him who his parents really are and that they were married. That means he has a stronger claim to the iron throne than Daemerys does.1 point

It's amazing how much we've learned about radiation safety in the last 50 years. It kind of makes you wonder what we're doing today that 50 years from now we'll look back and say, "we just didn't know any better." Cell phones come immediately to mind.1 point

You ain't kidding. I had gloves and a t-shirt on the first day I spent TIG welding. My skin was peeling a few days later from the burn. Now I make sure I have a long sleeve on when running AC.1 point

I concur, gotta try before you buy. I'd be happy to host everyone out at our property, or ORSA! I also wouldn't shy away from 20-ga. Though Oma's a tough Kraut, the lighter load performs well enough, and means you can stay at the range longer. - K1 point

I think that is exactly what happened with the so-called 'guns in bars' bill/law. Bredesen vetoed it and the legislature over-rode his veto. When we had a Democrat governor and a Democrat Speaker of the House the Republicans in the legislature - as well as some Democrats - had something to prove. They wanted to convince gun owners that they were on our side so that we would help give them control of the state government and they have been double-crossing and bait-and-switching us ever since. I think we need to get back to a balance in which, while there are still enough 'pro gun' representatives and senators or at least enough that want us to believe they are 'pro gun' to pass good legislation, those ostensibly 'pro gun' members of the legislature have to actually work to prove it. Give them a governor they have to fight instead of one that says, "Don't send me any real, strong pro gun rights bills," to which they respond, "Whatever you say, Lord Haslam." Even worse in the last, few years was the situation where a pro gun rights bill is gutted because UPS or FedEx doesn't like it and they get their bought and paid for puppet - who was supposedly 100% behind gun rights and carry rights - to gut the bill.1 point

I would vote Dem instead of Harwell. The House and Senate will still fake being conservative so I don't see anything major happening if a Dem does get elected. It may actually make the Republicans try to pass more favorable gun laws just to make them veto it. A little reverse psychology maybe..ha.1 point

People like her is the reason Trump ran roughshod over all the Republican do nothings in the primary. The Republicans are never going to learn.1 point

If she gets the nomination this should be novel. I haven't voted for a Democrat in a while but I think I'd rather give them a chance than vote for Harwell and essentially give the Haslam regime another term. I have seriously come to the conclusion that the only way to break the cycle wherein our current Republican-dominated state government lies to us, blows smoke up our butts and constantly double-crosses us is to vote some Democrats in for a term or two so that we can later replace them with true firearms right supporters. Hell, for that matter there are probably some Democrats who are, in a practical sense, more pro gun rights than Harwell or Haslam (or Ramsey.)1 point
