I've sort of come to the conclusion that lower Broadway is a chariacture of everything. Nothing you see there is authentic. I live about 7 miles from there and almost never go down there. Recently I took my kids to a birthday party that was happening at a restaurant down there. After walking down lower Broad, my six year old looked at me and said, "Dad, what was that place?"8 points

I think there are two ways to enjoy this event: 1) Get glasses. Stare at the sun. Through the glasses, you'll see a green disk, the sun. Then you'll see an almost same-size black disc (the moon) coming in starting to cover the sun. If you're in the path of total eclipse, you'll eventually see the green disc blotted out, with the suns corona glowing around it. Then the black disc moves out again, and you'll return to seeing a green disk. Or you could really enjoy it this way: 2) Don't get glasses. Don't look at the sun. Instead, look at your surroundings, especially the horizon to the west. When the moon starts to cover the sun, you should see the sky darkening in a spectacular fashion. Like a giant dark shadow that is moving from west to east. It will probably be like a sunset in the west, with near normal sky in the east. It will intensify and engulf the whole sky at point of totality. I think what will happen is hard to express in words. It will get dark like the dark sky right after sunset and stars begin to be visible. When the moon moves on, the darkness will continue to exist in the east, but from the west the sky will begin to brighten again, until you'll see the shadow leave to the east and normal daylight will return. I'd rather enjoy the colors of the sky, the strangeness of shadow, and experience it like countless of people throughout human history than by keeping glasses on and focusing just on the sun. If you want to wear glasses, make sure you take a few moments here and there and take the glasses off and look around you (not at the sun). The leather IWB holster that I ordered from Tim Thurner over at TTGunLeather arrived yesterday and fits my P10C like a glove! Of course, it was made specifically for the P10C and *should* fit like a glove. I have a long-standing practice of ordering a "Mike's Special" from Tim anytime I buy a handgun that will likely see carry duty. Consequently, I have a library of his holsters, all of the similar design, for a lot of handguns. They have always been of top quality, rugged and reliable, and extremely comfortable to wear.1 point

This has been around for a while. Used to be on a server in Holland but the owner took it down as it got so much traffic it was costing him money. I wrote him asking for it and he gave it to me. You might get a kick out of this. http://stevespages.com/piraat.html1 point

Since I live in the Lost State of Franklin, I have read a lot about it and I think they just wanted to form the 14th state. I don't think it was a urban/rural problem back then. Does sound familiar though.1 point

Beautiful holster!! I always loved the all leather holsters. I have/had a real nice one for my Canik 9mm loaned it and the gun to my daughter for home protection, I miss that gun always such fun to shoot, but better off protecting her and my grand daughter than sitting in the safe.1 point

Here is a very good one. It tells you times and duration and percentages of coverage. http://xjubier.free.fr/en/site_pages/solar_eclipses/TSE_2017_GoogleMapFull.html?Lat=36.01869&Lng=-84.24109&Elv=-1.0&Zoom=14&LC=11 point

It is very coincidental, for sure. A post that I read stated that the new striker assembly and whatever pieces are involved were specified as part of the MHS program and just so happened to fix the drop issue. Again, coincidental. I do not typically believe in coincidences of this magnitude either. I don't see how anyone can claim it's a hoax. Several sampled firearms clearly fire when struck on the back of the slide with a mallet or on the back rear of the slide as when dropped at that 30-degree angle. Exaggerated, perhaps, but not a hoax. I'm glad that Sig is stepping up. I expected that they would! They have much riding on the P320.1 point

I am temporarily setting us up with a slightly modified version of the canned, bone-stock IPB look n' feel while I work on some things behind the scenes. Trying to make our regular look n' feel work right with the new version of software AND mobile devices AND all web browsers including junky old MS Internet Explorer. Ya'll are just going to have to bear with me.1 point

I carry IWB with crossbread holsters exclusively. Took me a lot of attempts to find the right combo. In the beginning, it all feels like this.1 point

I had to do a bit of research on this one. Apparently just before Pearl Harbor there was a movement to create a 49th state out of the very North peice of California and the south edge of Oregon. From a web site "A ‘Citizen’s Committee’, armed with hunting rifles, occupied a stretch of U.S. Route 99, handing out pamphlets proclaiming Jefferson’s ‘independence’. The mainly good-natured incident – the rebels promised to “secede every Thursday until further notice” – was recorded by the main newsreel companies. But the light-hearted item lingered long enough in transit and in cutting rooms to be pushed off the news agenda by Pearl Harbor." The reason for the state was they thought the urban areas had too much say in Washington. A new movement started a few years ago to try again for the same reasons. This link tells both stories. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jefferson_(proposed_Pacific_state)1 point

A rainout on that day would be quite comical. The moon passes in front of the sun. Big deal. It'll be on T.V.1 point

I can't help myself, I gotta throw my opinion in here, she provided her carry permit upon request, I saw nothing to prompt an NCIC or State check on the serial number of the weapon being carried lawfully for there was no reason to lead one to believe it was stolen. That being said, once the check was conducted by dispatch which came back as "stolen" the Officer was obligated at that point to take the weapon into possession. However, arrest at this point was Officer discretion if the individual had sufficient proof of identity and no extenuating circumstances. Now, the Officer stated that Dispatch had screwed up before in such circumstances, and once they ran the check, a hard copy of the results would have been printed to be attached to the arrest report. Upon arrival at HQ the Officer should have personally looked at the print out to confirm the accuracy before booking ensued or the case went any further. Had he done so, she could have been immediately released with an apology and an explanation of the error. Although still a screw up, at least at that point it could be seen as an honest mistake and a face to face apology would have gone a long way. Then the next shift he could have bought a snow cone, said hello and left a good tip. He would have probably then had a new friend in the community.1 point

Personally, I believe that once a citizen provides proof that he or she is legally carrying then, without strong probable cause, at the very least, an officer should have no more right to disarm the citizen than the citizen has to request that the officer leave his or her firearm in the patrol car. As a citizen, I don't know the person who is approaching me and just because he or she is wearing a uniform doesn't mean I won't end up 'accidentally' shot. My life and my right to feel safe and secure in my life is every bit as important as an officer's so as long as I haven't given the officer probable cause to suspect I will do him/her harm then if I have to disarm for our conversation then the officer should have to disarm, as well. Luckily, instead of disarming a legally armed citizen I think/hope most officers would reasonably say, "Well, you leave yours in your holster, I will leave mine in my holster and we won't have a problem."1 point

Funny you mention that. One of the crackpots who calls into the local talk radio show every evening was talking about that earlier. According to him the 2024 eclipse path will cross with this year's forming a perfect x marks the spot over the "epicenter" of the New Madrid fault. Because all total eclipses coincide with some cataclysmic event, well fellas, 2024 doesn't look too good.0 points
