  1. Heh... if I am shooting at something, defensively or offensively, at 300yds away, I have better guns for that.

  2. I looked around and did not see a thread started, so I thought I should. I just wanted to say thank you to the generous persons that donated the Benefactor memberships, one of which I am now a proud user of. I really was thinking I needed to join up. I have a few items I need to let go of to fund other projects and I am sure I can fill a good sized box of things I really would like to give away to anyone they may be of use to. This is about the only place on the internet I would consider selling a gun through. So again, thank you very much, hopefully I will find away to pay it forward.

  6. Thank you for the compliments Tacops. yea, I have always been one to plan ahead for things within my power to do. I know that things do break down and most times at the worst time possible so I try to be ready. As far as my landlord. He is a nice guy from some foreign country. I think Budapest is where he told me one time but could be wrong. He is a very hard working fair and honest man. He has my A/C back up and running already. It took him about 30 minutes to find the problem and had to replace a small transformer and it's up and running again. He never complains when I call him about an issue but some things I just fix myself if it's something I can do and does not cost much so don't bother him with it. I think he knows I do that even though I have never told him. I think my neighbors in the other duplexes may have mentions that I would fix small things in their places so he does not have to make a trip for something that takes 10 minutes and 5 bucks to fix but they would call him for that. The elderly lady had him come once to change a light bulb in her livingroom even though there was still 3 working. I told her from now on call me to do stuff like that. The landlord bought Central unit filters for all 3 units and gave them to the tennants and when he showed up to give me mine I showed him a pack of 5 new ones I already had in utility room. Once a month I go to the other units and change out the filters so he does not have to come and do it. Just who I am!..........

  7. A new Senate bill introduced in June by Senators Mike Lee and Mike Crapo would remove federal regulations of firearm silencers, classifying them as firearm accessories. This bill, known as the Silencers Helping Us Save Hearing (SHUSH) Act, would take the Hearing Protection Act (HPA), which is currently under consideration, a step further in protecting the rights of hunters and sportsmen across the country. The bill has also been introduced in the House of Representatives by Congressman Steve King. What would the SHUSH Act do? The current HPA bill, that has 154 co-sponsors, would be a victory for gun enthusiasts across the nation—eliminating processing delays in the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and getting rid of costly tax stamps. However, the HPA bill would still include transfer requirements, that regulate firearm suppressors the same way as firearms. By taking the bill a step further with the SHUSH Act and reclassifying silencers as firearm accessories, the transfer requirements would be removed, making it easier for law-abiding citizens to purchase firearm suppressors over-the-counter. In a press release from Senator Lee’s office regarding the introduction of the SHUSH Act in the Senate, Senator Lee states, “Suppressors can make shooting safer for the millions of hunters and sportsmen that exercise their constitutional right to use firearms every year,” going on to state, “The current process for obtaining a suppressor is far too expensive and burdensome. Our bill would remove these unnecessary federal regulations and make it easier for firearms users to protect themselves.” Hearing protection for gun owners In addition to removing burdensome taxes and processing delays, the SHUSH Act would protect the hearing of gun owners and hunters. Anti-gun advocates, such as Kristin Brown who works for the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, have stated that “there is not evidence of a public health issue associated with hearing loss from gunfire.” However the American Speech Language Hearing Association has found quite the opposite to be true, reporting that firearm use can often lead to “high-frequency permanent hearing loss.” This hearing loss associated with firearm use can make hearing certain sounds of speech and pitches difficult for those that suffer from it. The SHUSH bill would be an important step in protecting the hearing of sportsmen and hunters around the country. In the release published by Senator Lee’s office, Senator Crapo states, “By properly classifying suppressors as a firearm accessory our bill would allow sportsmen to have better access to hearing protection and preserve the hearing of sportsmen, gun owners and those who live near shooting ranges.” Learn more about the use of firearm suppressors If you want to learn more about how you can protect your hearing while participating in shooting sports and the laws surrounding the use of gun silencers in the state of Tennessee, contact our Nashville shooting range today to learn more! 8. You should consider beautiful Ferguson, MO. I understand it's near impossible to get shot by the police there. You may get shot by one of the residents, but that's the trade-off.

  9. Don't assume with those peckers out in that part of the state. When I crashed on the dragon, I was going below the ridiculously low speed limit and the cop wrote me for failure to maintain, careless driving, and traveling on the opposite side of a yellow. Well, I was actually sliding across the double yellow on my back before falling off the cliff. Then, to top it off, I was in a medically induced coma at the hospital (with a breathing tube) and he told my ex that I gave him a statement stating I was riding recklessly before the accident (statements of witness contradicted everything he said/did) and that if she didn't sign to accept the ticket that they were going to issue a warrant for my arrest when they woke me up from the coma. So, as soon as someone brings up police/tickets/motorcycles, I don't make any assumptions because for some ungodly known reason, they have a well-known reputation to lie in that part of the state.

  10. Deadly force in response to a theoretical versus and established threat is not something I want around. Yes I know that ups the risk to LEO's. But it's a risky business, and citizens rights needs to be first and foremost of every encounter, or else those rights are meaningless...even at the expense of increased risk to the officer.

  12. Let's hope this is a serious bill and not just another diversionary way for the GOP to pretend to be pro-gun. The HPA would already be enacted if the Republicans had any serious interest in it. The fact that it hasn't been says a lot about the current administration's real feelings about gun rights. Remember that Trump was a gun-banning Democrat before he decided it was more advantageous to pretend to be a Republican. Cheers, Whisper

  14. If she gets the nomination this should be novel. I haven't voted for a Democrat in a while but I think I'd rather give them a chance than vote for Harwell and essentially give the Haslam regime another term. I have seriously come to the conclusion that the only way to break the cycle wherein our current Republican-dominated state government lies to us, blows smoke up our butts and constantly double-crosses us is to vote some Democrats in for a term or two so that we can later replace them with true firearms right supporters. Hell, for that matter there are probably some Democrats who are, in a practical sense, more pro gun rights than Harwell or Haslam (or Ramsey.)

  15. Keep in mind some older folks don't trust banks all that much. Could have been the majority of his social security check or something. What concerns me is that he basically said that he shot to kill. Oh, it doesn't bother me that he did just that he came right out and said it - I hope that doesn't cause problems for him, later. It also seems to me like the authorities could pressure the woman who was part of the setup into revealing the identity of the other person. I wonder if this isn't a case where she could potentially face murder charges because she was part of a crime in which someone was killed. That possibility should get her talking!

  16. I use enough taper crimp that 1) allows the finished cartridge to go in the case gauge with ease, 2) does not allow the bullet to 'set back deeper' when I apply a downward force against the bullet on the reloading bench.
    1 point
  17. Esco... I always resize the brass, flare it as little as possible to get the bullet started to seat, and use a bit of a taper crimp... The 9 and ACP dies should be taper crimp dies... I measure the outside of the case at the case mouth with the bullet seated with a dial caliper or a micrometer, note the reading, and adjust the taper crimp die to crimp about .002 tighter than the original "no crimp" reading... It works well for me... Lotsa folks who bulk reload will tell ya this aint necessary... I kinda like it anyway... Bullet pull (...the amount of squeeze the case puts on the seated bullet...) and crimp is important with slow burning powders like the heay kickers use... Not so much with the faster powders... I like the crimp thing to make sure that the bullets wont set back on recoil and feeding with the semiatuos... RE: "Reloading number of times on the cases"... Resize em every time (....i think this is far more important than the taper crimp, by the way...) and reload em till ya see a case mouth split... When they split, toss em... I tend to keep my cases separate in 100 to 400 piece batches.... They will tend to go bad together... When ya get tired of sorting the splits, toss em all... Hope this helps a bit... leroy

  18. I am wondering, since he was charged, if he was attempting to pass and not going opposite direction which could also explain why the car driver was injured, she was turning left as he was passing so he struck her drivers door. I have no idea and do not know that area at all, just subjective wondering.

  21. Is there a background story to the video above? Re: Castille from my memory of the video, there was less than 1 second between the cop pointing a gun and screaming and shots being fired. That's not much time for the OODA loop to run.

  22. I carry an AK everywhere, it is my self defense gun. I am not so much worried that I will need it when I am out and about. I am worried about coming home to an intruder inside my house. And it is safe to assume that if they are in my house they are at least armed as well as I am. The reason why people say AKs are inaccurate is because they are generally fed crappy ammunition while people who own ARs generally use better quality ammunition. If you feed an AR Tula or Wolf it will be comparable to an AK using the same ammunition. I have videos of the Afghans who worked for me using 1980's vintage AKs to hit man sized steel targets at 300+ yards consistently. As in 7 out of 10 consistently. They are plenty accurate for a fighting rifle regardless of what you feed them.

  23. You are lucky it wouldn’t chamber the next round. We are trained to clear malfunctions quickly and continue to fire. Bad news if it’s a squib. I’ve never had one, but my friend had one next to me at the range. Model 66; bulged the barrel. Luckily he was shooting .38’s, but it was reloaded ammo.

I have intended to sign up a few times in the recent past and every single time I had money to burn, I had to use it to feed a different fire. ;( Nothing major like health issues, it just seems every thing we own is breaking faster than I can repair it or replace it. 29. I tip my hat to you Bersaguy, you had a problem (A/C), obviously you are a guy who thinks ahead and had a contingency in place, rather than complain incessantly because something broke (as things always do) you actually complimented your landlord by recognizing that he typically gets things fixed as quickly as he can. Though I have never met you I would say you are a can do, conservative (not much of a reach considering your presence on this board and content of posts), understanding kind of guy that knows how to sensibly deal with a challenge. But I pity the fool that doesn't get your A/C fixed quick in this kind of heat.

  30. Think about the fact that even though we are all experienced shooters we can still make this mistake. Now think about all the inexperienced shooters out there that have no idea what a squib load is or how to handle it.

  31. The officer screwed up and ran the wrong number. He should get an official reprimand AND the lady should sue. Normally, I'm extremely supportive of Law Enforcement. But if an officer makes a stupid mistake and then defames an innocent citizen for it, then he should pay the price just like anybody else.

  35. Something else is how a wood stocked AK feels. I have a few AKs but the wood stocked ones are the ones that make me smile. Kind of like how a steel and wood handgun feels.

  36. Y'all are probably gonna call me all kinds of nasty names. But I'll tell you anyway. In my late friends collection there was a like new Romanian SAR-1, a bunch of extra mags and about 8000 rounds of ammo. I could have had that rifle dirt cheap. Hell, his wife very likely would have just given it to me. I could have been set up with an AK and ammo for life. I seriously considered it. I must have picked up that rifle about a dozen times, handled it, pointed it, etc. I know its a fine weapon. It has a great reputation, fires a decent cartridge and is battle proven. In the end, there's just something about the AK that just doesn't "do it" for me. I'm not even sure why. So I let it go to some one else. BTW: I know the guy who bought it and he's tickled plumb to pieces with it. I've mentioned before that I don't care for the AR type rifles at all. Maybe I'm just an old fart too set in my ways. I guess if the world ever really does go to hell, I'll just have to muddle through with these.

  40. I can say I have never had a rifle or pistol round squib "Knock on Wood" but then I probably don't shoot as many rounds as most here do. What I have seen and had back years ago when I was just a kid growing up. Me and my best friend Dave were both into trap shooting as kids and had a gun club within walking distance of our homes and we would save our money we earned doing odd jobs till we could afford to buy reloadng supplies and we would reload as many 12 gauge rounds as we could and go shoot. We were using an old Texan reloader and if you did not pay close attention you could run out of powder quick. Both Dave and I did that a couple times and we learned quick the dangers of it. Neither of us damaged either of our guns but another shooter almost did with one of his reloads had failed and had it not been for Dave it could have been bad! Dave was on the line when the guy next to him had a squib and Dave hollered real loud "Squib" and that round was stopped till it was checked. Sure enough the Remington Power piston wad was still lodged in the barrel of the shooters gun and he was going to call his next bird and shoot. Maybe it would have just blown the wad out but maybe it could have blown the gun up. The guy was very thankful to Dave for hollering Squib beccause there was 2 other shoots going on and he didn't hear his squib load but Dave did and didn't see the wad clear his barrel. We never had a wad not clear the end of our barrels because we seemed to have just enough powder in out squib loads to push it out but it was smething we wtached for and we became much more careful when reloading after that. Shortly after that we saved our money all Winter and bought a Mec 600 reloader which had safety's that would not allow the bar to slide dumping the powder or shot into the casing if there was not enough powder of shot to be a safe load. We used Federal primers, Peters # 8 Shot and Hercules Red Dot Powder for ur reloading.

  42. I understand... A "squib" will sober ya up, no matter the source... The advice about paying attention before pulling the trigger on the next round is golden... I've handloaded for the last 40 years or so... Never had a rifle round squib, but have had some revolver squibs... Mostly from lotsa slow burning powder, like 296, in 44 mags or 45 colts... Lotsa times the handload squibs are from poor bullet pull... That's why its so important to size the brass well and crimp the bullets in the heavy duty revolver loads... leroy....

  43. Oh the pucker factor that produces!!!!! Loaded up some "hot" loads for a Ruger GP-100, nice and toasty they were when the third round went "Pew" instead of boom! Not a good feeling at all!! Obviously I loaded one up without powder, just the primer, and the bullet was a third down the barrel. I ALWAYS carry a brass rod or a hardwood dowel in my range bag. It came into use that day. When I pulled the trigger, I think I peed a little with that sound of the squib! Be safe all!! Be aware!

  44. Been there done that while shooting an original and very expensive Colt revolver. Fortunately did not pull the trigger a second time. Never a fun situation but glad everything turned out fine for you. Saw another guy not so lucky on Facebook today that had his AR go ka boom on a squib load.

  45. I have had one with 308 factory ammo in a semi, caught it. One in 44 mag with my reloads, in a semi rifle, caught it. 4 in a 22LR revolver, caught it after the 4th round, PIA to get the bullets out of the barrel. It happens to us all, glad things work out for the good.
