Ok guys, I think we have enough of a consensus here to predict the way this would go even if 1000 people voted. We'll switch back to the old way of doing this. I will work on it this weekend.5 points

I have been on a tear as of late! I pulled my dream rifle out of layaway in February and I am almost complete with the build. The last piece of the puzzle will be ordered next week. Which is a Knight's Armament Company 762 CQB QDC suppressor in FDE. Knight's Armament Company (KAC) SR-25 EMC - Leupold Optics Mark 8 1.1-8x24mm CQBSS H27D - BT10-LW17 V8 Atlas Bipod - Magpul ACS-L Stock - Magpul MIAD Gen 1.1 Grip I went to the Outpost Armory last month to purchase a bipod for my rifle and I walked out with a Romanian SAR-3 instead. Last September, I got the itch to purchase a FAL. I scratched that itch by purchasing an Imbel parts kit + Imbel gear logo receiver. I sent my parts in January to Mark to Arizona Response systems to assemble and refinish my rifle. I received my FAL back from Mark at Arizona Response Systems after patiently waiting nearly 6 months. To say that I am pleased is a gross understatement. His work is first rate and worth every penny. Capitol Armory squared me away on a Surefire SOCOM RC2 5.56 suppressor4 points

Finally got the Hakim in and completed the trio ( Ljungman, Rasheed, & Hakim) The Garand just happened to be in the same room, so it too made it into the picture. Sorry for the crappy lighting and the wrinkles in the background3 points

I was in Canada a couple of weeks ago, and everyone wanted to talk about the Preds. They were hugely supportive. The most common point of respect I heard was - "Nashville sure can fill up an arena."2 points

All too true for me my friend. I tried to play with the big dogs here, but I'm headed back to the porch and trying to recover. Truth be told, I just went overboard when my workman's comp and SSD claims were settled during my fun days of leukemia and lymphatic cancer treatment. Company insurance said they'd overpaid me and I'd have pay a lot back after getting the SSD set up. It turned out that I had been underpaid instead. So I went a little crazy, I guess. Didn't know if I'd be around long, so I tended to do whatever I wanted and the consequences be damned for a time. I guess it was a normal reaction. Anyway, I have really made an effort these last several years to think more longer term than back then.2 points

That is a disorder that most gun enthusiast have to some extent. If I had the pocket book some folks have I would buy more and I am glad I don't..........2 points

Then if you have a collection of don't shoots buy the rifle and add it to your No Shoot Collection....................2 points

We had a portable 8 track player that my mom got with S&H green stamps. Yeah, it was that long ago. I used it, some, even into early high school. It was probably, oh, 10 inches to a foot square - best I remember - and was yellow. It had one speaker built in to the front of the player and a 'plunger' made in to the top to change the track (track had to be changed manually.) Mom and dad also bought a huge Curtis Mathis television/all in one entertainment center kind of thing back in the late 70s. It was long, about like a dresser. The television screen was in the middle and was flanked by a speaker on each side. There was a 'lid' that could be raised on either side of where the screen was. Under one 'lid' was a record player and under the other 'lid' was an AM/FM radio tuner and an 8 track player. That 8 track player would change the tracks on its own.2 points

I have always been one to say, if it ain't broke don't fix it and I didn't see much if anything wrong with the old system so I voted to go back. I also am not buying or selling as much as I once was so I can live with it either way so what ever you decide on will be fine with me...............2 points

If a person doesn't like the politics section, why couldn't said person simply stay out of it? I'm about to run out of patience with habitually offended folks.2 points

I live within the 2'30" line, not quite max, but it will certainly be cool. My dad always wanted to see a total solar eclipse. I'll be thinking of him for sure. Hoping for good weather!1 point

The suspects were not great shots, thank god. Of the 81 rounds they fired at police, only 1 hit an officer. He lived. They were not bad shots at the Christmas Party, reason being they were shooting and killing defenseless people. That was alot different when they have incoming hot lead. It kind of makes it a lot harder to hit your target when your dodging hot incoming lead. It does sound like the police officers do need more range time but it also sounds like the bad guys didn't stop shooting after they had been hit if they each we shot 15 times before they went down.1 point

I have an M2 PPQ 9mm and have had multiple 19's. Like everyone else has said, I've yet to feel a better trigger from the factory than the PPQ. Having said that, I carry my 19 more than anything else. PPQ has been a range gun only for a couple years now. I interchanged my PPQ and VP9 for a while but still kept going back to the 19 for carry/all purpose gun.1 point

If you listen to Midday 180 on the Zone they spoke with Jacob yesterday. He owned it and knew he was getting thrown out, the interview was really good. All of his fines are covered and I'm pretty sure Clay Travis is going to defend him Pro Bono if he wants him to. I hope that somehow he can stream that court hearing live if Clay defends him, should be a good show.1 point

Black is beautiful!!! Of course, I sorta prejudice, I think I got three of the four. I also have a Hi-point carbine. As long as you stay with Hi-point mags and keep the them in good shape, it runs like a Singer sewing machine. Stay away from the Pro-Mag 15 rounders though! They are garbage. Just made up from whole cloth AFAIK, as statute doesn't say that at all, and there's been no AG opinion to differ. Rather disappointing from him really. Maybe it's just poorly stated, and he just meant can't step outside the car with it, dunno. - OS1 point

I found that buying the buckets of packs from the freeze-dried food companies can be economical and provides a ready to go solution. I leave them sealed so that it improves shelf like and improves pest resistance. Plus they stack better than a bunch of packs. Something like this (just an example I saw at a decent price of $1.42 per serving): Wise Foods 60 Serving Entree only 01-160 Grab and Go Food Kit One thing to look out for though, as with all these foods, is that 60 servings is actually 13 packs. Most are four servings with a couple 8 serving packs tossed in. So if you were fixing them on the hoof and were alone, you would not get 60 meals out of it if you fixed it in the pouch as most people do. That might not be a bad thing, but just something to keep in mind. Another option I mentioned up the thread is the SOS Emergency Food. It is kinda heavy, but packs a lot of calories in a small space. Downsides are that there is no variety and without storing it in another container, it is not as pest proof. This is what I have tossed in my Get-Home-Bag. I don't have to worry about the heat in the car spoiling it. They also make water pouches that are for long term. If it takes me longer to get there than that food lasts, I figure it is REALLY bad and I can start searching abandoned vehicles and storefronts for more. Random example: LOT OF 5 3600 CALORIE EMERGENCY FOOD RATIONS SOS Like you, my biggest worry is being set to get home if things go bad and having supplies in case it takes me longer to get there. At home I can exploit the canned and other food we have in the cabinet and still leave the freeze-dried food buckets in case we have to jump and run.1 point

I was very excited about going forward to a more in depth classifieds system, but since the majority of users are not embracing it then I don't see it as being worth it. Examples: 1) The "make an offer" function seemed neat. Nobody has ever used it, still sending PM's instead 2) Since a classified ad duplicates as a discussion thread, I had people contacting me weeks after I had marked an ad as sold because they were looking at the discussion thread and never realized it was already sold. End result, a seller has to now mark two separate things (the ad and the discussion thread) as sold 3) The image upload function does not correlate to Tapatalk at all. I suspect it is a permissions issue behind the scenes. Personally, I love Tapatalk because it streamlines all of my forums into one sleek app. 4) Since the new forum software has a certain number of required fields, it makes listing groups of items difficult/impossible and for certain items the selections simply do not make sense. I think most everyone around is so used to the way we were doing things that the old way of doing classifieds would be warmly welcomed. Also, seems like it would be less overall work for you:)1 point

Permit me to offer a third possibility for reduced traffic, Mac. With the last several incarnations of the format, I find the site less and less user friendly. Yes, I'm old and don't have the background in computers/IT/ and other high tech things that most people here seem to have. The days of my spending hours here have been gone for quite some time now. Yes, I'm also job challenged and have a lot of time I should put to better use. But to me at any rate, I see the number of former heavy-duty users dwindling. Seems stat many of the staple names have almost disappeared from the posts. I do see a bunch of new names, very many of which seem to be sellers who have discovered the site; and they do not usually represent the kind who will stick around. They come for the fast sale and that's all. And quite frankly, after contacting several of them, I'd just as soon they not return. Ok, this is not well written, and I'm probably going to offend some by it. But just my little opinion.1 point

I liked the politics section as well, there were some funny things said and not so funny things being said but I did enjoy reading it. The political cartoons were a hoot! I don't care which side of the fence you sit on, there were some informative links scattered in the threads of discussion and there was enough of information to really make a person think.1 point

Took my permit class, many years ago, with a Sig 226 in 40. I liked it, but just didn't love it. After the class, I retired the 40 and went to a 9 almost exclusively. Had a G22 for a while, trade it for a 23. Then sold the 23. I just didn't like the 40. Then somehow, I acquired a G24 and found I sort of liked the 40 again. That...and your comments about the PPQ in 40 have me wondering. Maybe someday... a PPQ in 40? Hmmm.1 point

That was freaking awesome! The commentary styling of Mystery Science Theater and the banter had me rolling. Granted I wanted to comment about the piss poor fire fighting that was done, but as a 20 year Sailor, I think I am biased. Every freaking year back to fire fighting school.....1 point

I do hope the political section is brought back as I'm sure it will be for several reasons: 1) Healthy debate regarding how the country is run benefits everyone involved. That's not just on the national level but local as well. 2) I often find it very educational as things may be pointed out that I, or others may never have considered. 3) This is a forum localized to the state of Tennessee so we all share common interests and a greater sense of community than other national forums. 4) Old men are going to sit around and bitch about politics. It's a simple fact of life. I think the Internet Is the modern day corner barbershop. 5) Some of our members are news/political junkies. We all may be able to learn from what they find that we don't have the time for. Not sure what else there is to add that hasn't already been said or considered by management and everyone else involved. Finally, as this has happened before, it really should come as no surprise to us regulars that have been here for years. That's a testament to the comraderie this forum has developed. I think we overwhelmingly were against Obama, but lately there has been what resembles a Trump obsession if not outright worship that bewoe those who don't tow the line. We've gone from one extreme to another. That is just not right. I was raised to respect others opinions and live my life that way. I enjoy hearing and listening to other opinions as it can be enlightening and imho is necessary for any kind of civilized society....but will also reserve the right to retort when the rhetoric gets a little too deep. That's applies to being face to face with someone or tapping away on the internet. That's just who I am. Take it for what you all will, I've got a pretty thick skin. Seems like there are many that need to grow one and not get so bent out of shape when others have a different opinion.1 point

I remember last time politics got too heated around these parts it was hidden from new content as the "Hive of scum and villainy" or something like that. That might not be a terrible option again to keep it from taking over the new content feed.1 point

Seems to me that it's hard to have a gun forum without some political discussion. Like it or not firearms and 2A rights are a political issue thanks to the demagoguery of the Democrats. I say make it a benefactor item.1 point
-
Okay. The three of us have probably never agreed on anything, and probably never will again; but we agree on this. The “Off Topic” section is what keeps most any forum going. I think use of the forum has dropped off, but I don’t think it’s because of political discussions, but I may be wrong. I don’t have any data to back that up; just general observations. I think it’s due to the software updates. Navigation is just a PITA with the new software. This election has split the country. I think generally the people on a gun forum are good with what’s going on, the liberals on the left; not so much. But we need to have open discussions. I don’t see why the offended parties can’t just not click on a thread instead of sending those that want to discuss politics to another forum. But I fully understand this is not a democracy and I am only offering my opinion as a paid benefactor.1 point

I think if we can't discuss politics here, I ask where would be left that makes it feel like a real discussion? Coming here to debate these issues was always enjoyable for me because the collective intellect of TGO is much higher than the population at large, and we certainly care more about the results of elections. I hope politics can come back, even if only a benefactors only sub-forum. Hell, that may be the best way to put an initial layer of QC on it. For my money, a place to have real debates is worth the price of admission, even if it does go off the rails from time to time. No kidding. In my recent move, I had to self-haul my ammo along with my guns separate from the rest of normal household goods that movers took care of. I got quite a decent workout in, and the word shortage never entered my mind.1 point
