I do hope everyone will take a few minutes out of their busy schedules and spend a few minutes remembering what they weekend represents. Thanks Bersaguy8 points

I've about decided I don't want to live in a world where one would need years and years of food stored. I honestly don't see how that would or could happen anyway. We'd either all die, or sort out whatever problems caused the disruption in fairly short order. A short term supply of food, water, cash, toilet paper, etc. can come in handy however.4 points

I had one of my honeybee hives swarm last month. When that happens, the queen permanently leaves the hive. They had lots of replacement queens growing, so I was sure they would be OK. A month and a half later I now see there is no queen in the hive. Don't know what happend to the new-born queen. When several are born, usually one becomes the reigning queen and the rest are killed or evicted. The new queen will leave the hive for a few days to mate, maybe she couldn't find her way back, or she got eaten by a bird. They can make a new queen, but it has to be from an egg that is only a few days old. Since there has been no queen for weeks, there was no viable eggs to use to make a new queen. So, I had to order a new queen to put into the hive. I have never done that before, so it was a new experience. The bee and a few attendants came in a hollowed out block of wood, and was just shipped in the mail. The post office called and said I had to pick them up. Not sure why they couldn't come the rest of the way, but whatever. Here is how they came in the mail, and the bees checking her out after I put her on the hive.3 points

I may have made a post similar to this in years past, but I think TGO will indulge me in reminiscing about some lost comrades... SSG Jeremy Brown- Killed in a vehicle rollover during his 2nd Iraq tour on 3 Jul 2005 (very somber 4th of July that year as we all got the news). Not too long after the 101st came home from OIF 1, he came down on PCS orders to 3rd ACR because they needed to fill the unit for their deployment. He was in the gunners hatch when the vehicle rolled over, and we found that he had put himself up there to give one of his Soldier's a break on a long convoy mission. SFC Clarance McSwain- Killed in an IED explosion while on a dismounted patrol 8 Jun 2006. "Sergeant Mac" was as generous in spirit a man as I've ever met. I was OPCON to the company he was a PSG in, and even though I was just an attached MI guy, he treated me and the guy I had with me as if we were in his platoon the whole time he had been in charge of it. I remember thinking how lucky I was to be with a guy so great and funny while stuck in a place so austere it's name was Patrol Base Swamp. CPL Jessica Ellis- Killed in an IED explosion while assigned as the medic for a route clearance team. Jess was the "kid sister" type you'll have in a unit with females, but she busted her ass in contributing to the effort. She was a great medic and you could see how dedicated she was each and every time she treated someone, as well as when she would be involved in training folks in our battalion run combat lifesaver classes. Her death was on Mother's Day in 2008, and I hate that her family has to associate it with her passing. Every year around this time, the thoughts of them are vivid in my mind. I'm thankful to have known them and thankful our country had such fine individuals willing to serve it.2 points

I'm with you on that, Greg. While I do keep supplies set aside, and am trained in and regularly practice survival skills, the heart of the matter for me is that me holed up with my family while everyone else starves or whatever is out of sync with the way I live the rest of my life. There is a part of the Mormon ethic that's really found it's way into my planning and preparation. While they believe in having a year's worth of provisions set aside - that's as much about being able to help the community around you as taking care of your own. So, I guess for me - I still have to answer the question of "who is my neighbor?" - even when times are bad. Maybe especially when times are bad.2 points

The bumble bee is an important, beneficial insect. They pollinate plants and flowers as they forage for food. To gardeners, it is a welcome sight to see these large, flying insects carrying large loads of pollen, flying into and around their flower beds and gardens. I had to look up the Bumble Bees to be sure of what I had been told as kid learning about things on the farm growing up. Grand father told me they did good things and looks like he was correct. I am sure Carpenter Bees that look like Bumble Bees also have no positive purpose other than to being annoying and doing damage to your house eves and out buildings. Of course we all know that honey Bees produce honey that most everyone enjoys on hot biscuits or toast and even in coffee and tea so they are very useful. Now for the Yellow Jacket I think God put them on Earth as a lesson for stupid people and people that do not pay attention to their surroundings. I was guilty of that as I have dealt with them several times while growing up living on the farm and it was not a good experience for me or them. They got me and I got them. Other than that I see no postive reason for them being on earth. They are just 1 of many of GODS creatures that has yet to prove a positive value............JMHO2 points

When a hive decides to swarm, the queen and about half of the bees in the hive will swarm and gather in a tree. First they gorge on honey because it may be a while till they get established again. So, half of your bees, and a good portion of your honey just fly away. This is why they are docile in a swarm... they have nothing really to defend, so why bother. Stinging someone is a death sentence for the bee. When they gather like that, they will send out scout bees to look for a new home. Each scout will return and give a report of the new place they discovered. Somehow they all decide which one to use, communicate where it is, and all at once they ALL fly straight to the new home. Bees amaze me2 points

Walking by my neighbor's place yesterday, he showed my this in his shrubs. It isn't a hive of any sort, just a massive wad of bees. This morning they were gone.1 point

So it is no secret that my heathen was raised around guns. She has been shooting since she was four years old. She started with a single shot bolt action .22 rimfire rifle and has progressed to where she can and does shoot an AR at the range. As she turned 9 last year she was eligible for 4H Shooting Sports this season. We signed her up and her first practice was in April. At her very first practice her coach inquired as to her experience shooting. I explained that she had a handful of years under her and I hoped he didn't have to unteach too much of what I had taught her. To my mild surprise he stated that she was a pure natural and asked if she would be interested in shooting the first match of the season, less than two months away. The Heathen is right handed, but left eye dominant. I have raised her to shoot left handed rifle. I am also cross dominant and it has never hindered me to shoot off-hand to my dominant eye. The coaches embraced this and let her do her own thing. They are all very impressed with her. They call her a natural and have been teaching her on Target Air Rifle, Sport Air Rifle, Target .22 and Sport .22. She also shoots archery. With a recurve. Nearly alone in that discipline as nearly everyone else shoots compound (bare, hunting and target.) The coaches are awesome, and have gone as far as to special order her a left handed Target Air Rifle and a left handed Target .22. They have that much faith in her talent. And on to that talent. Saturday was a dreary rainy day in Kentucky. But it didn't stop her. It was her first competition with less than two months experience on a Target Air Rifle. She placed 3rd. We are beyond thrilled.1 point

Man, I'm gonna get beat about the head and shoulders, but... at least I'm able to admit when I'm wrong. Many of you have heard me express my dislike of the M&P series. I now have a .45 Shield on my hip. Wound up trading my trusty Glock 36 in. This feels better, holds one more round, shoots better and more comfortably... ... proceed with the beatings...1 point

This letter is a prime example of why being a cop or military doesn't make you a firearms expert or even have a gauge knowledge of firearms. http://www.knoxnews.com/story/opinion/readers/2017/05/24/letters-silencers-greed/340246001/ I may have to respond to this because it's pure fud and nonsense.1 point

Thanks for posting this, buddy. I first saw the video just after it first appeared and have found it to be one of the most moving things I've ever seen. To be hones, I'll be tearing up before halfway thru it. So...thanks to all those who served. And a special blessing for those who didn't make it home. Thank You...one and all.1 point

I loved the Parks and Rec shout out. Great video. Whatever happened with FPS Russia? It seems like after his business partner was murdered he went dark. I don't think they ever solved that crime.1 point

Glad to see it burned itself out and no major damage done. After seeing videos of those shells I knew that what happened to you is exactly why I never got any. I've shot some crazy stuff but by the time these things came out I had gotten all that out of my system.1 point

Good video. Admitted you screwed up, which is a good thing to be able to do. Funny as usual. Really like this style of video. Keep them coming. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I don't want to poo poo someone's choice of gun but I've watched 2 videos where someone used a Judge for personal defense and the results were less than adequate. I did see one video where a guy killed an intruder with his Judge but it was a point blank shot. They were wrestling with each other at the front door. I would just avoid using those shot gun style rounds and go for solid lead. Sorry to get off topic but just wanted to throw that out there.1 point

Tx! Yah the Judge is a lot o'fun and useful too. I've owned two Thunders (9 and 380), great value and accurate. They relocated to good homes. As for SoB holsters, no interest there. Only time I've fallen around here was a classic faceplant when my boot caught in a tomato cage buried under brush. Bruised a rib and decided to be more careful after that...so far so good.1 point

Once would be to much if you landed right on the gun and it drove it into your backbone. I have been hearing for years that it isn't safe to carry the middle of the back because of back injuries. It may be all wives tales but scared me away from that location.1 point

We do have some talented members here that could custom make what you need. I like the versatility and have the same critters running around. I recently picked up a Bersa Thunder for cheap to use as my yard gun, so far I love it! That's a good looking shotgun you got there!1 point

That is the factory handguard. It has the little rail which works great with a pistol light. It's got iron sights...but the dust cover is hinged and there is a factory rail mounted on the top of the cover. For the price it's a nice package. The Kick-light stock was less than $90. Not as much aftermarket stuff available for it yet but Century sells factory 10rd mags which is nice. Most of the hi-cap mags for the Saiga are aftermarket. Saiga and CAT mags are not interchangeable without modification.1 point

So when she woke up in the morning, I warned her before she left the bedroom. "I dyed the Heathen's hair purple." She just mumbled and left the room. The dye I used is semi-permanent. I didn't bleach it first, it was designed to go over the natural hair color. The wife's response was something along the lines of "... as long as it comes out by the time school starts..." I count that as a win. For the record, I am a reformed punk. I dyed my hair blue for my senior yearbook pictures (the only once that were color back in those days.) I wore my hair way past my shoulders until just a few years ago. And it has been neon blue, neon green, neon red, blonde, black, etc... At one point and time I had anything that could be pierced, pierced. 37 of them to be precise. Yes. Four times for those wondering. I am covered head to toe in tattoos. Both of my ears are currently gauged to 5/8" and those are my only piercings now. There are several here that have met me, and everyone has been awesome, but I am sure that I am not what someone expects. In short, I embrace individuality. I was thrilled when my daughter suggested dying her hair. I never pressured her toward it. Same as when she asked to get her ears pierced, at seven or eight I believe. I never mentioned or pushed for it. I just waited for her to ask. That is how she got into shooting sports. I made her play soccer for four years, and she hated it. She asked on her own to join the 4H Shooting Sports Team as soon as she was old enough. I told her that in addition to mandatory musical extra curricular activities (orchestra and band) she had to have one other one. She chose shooting sports. And she is a rock star at it. With purple hair.1 point

Getting the first P-3 ready for the flight schedule, we found a swarm decided to park on the #2 propeller. We changed aircraft for that flight. Had a beekeeper come and take em, seemed smarter and cleaner than firing up the engine!1 point

Yea, its not that uncommon and the queen decided to go find a new home. I once purchased a new package of bees and tucked them all nice in their new home and the very next day they swarmed and I never saw them again. They are actually pretty passive when you find them like that and they are all swarming around the queen and keeping her happy until she finds the new home.1 point

I've seen that a time or two, I think it happens when the queen decides to go to a new place and they stop for the night (or day maybe). I had one by a deer stand once, I decided I didn't need to hunt there that day.1 point
