I'm not sure we were accomplishing those things. In today's society, you get to believe what you want to believe, and can always find plenty of support. Very little honest debate going on these days. More like a cage full of monkeys throwing their own poop at each other. The reality... nothing really changes. I'm just glad ammo prices are down.7 points

So when she woke up in the morning, I warned her before she left the bedroom. "I dyed the Heathen's hair purple." She just mumbled and left the room. The dye I used is semi-permanent. I didn't bleach it first, it was designed to go over the natural hair color. The wife's response was something along the lines of "... as long as it comes out by the time school starts..." I count that as a win. For the record, I am a reformed punk. I dyed my hair blue for my senior yearbook pictures (the only once that were color back in those days.) I wore my hair way past my shoulders until just a few years ago. And it has been neon blue, neon green, neon red, blonde, black, etc... At one point and time I had anything that could be pierced, pierced. 37 of them to be precise. Yes. Four times for those wondering. I am covered head to toe in tattoos. Both of my ears are currently gauged to 5/8" and those are my only piercings now. There are several here that have met me, and everyone has been awesome, but I am sure that I am not what someone expects. In short, I embrace individuality. I was thrilled when my daughter suggested dying her hair. I never pressured her toward it. Same as when she asked to get her ears pierced, at seven or eight I believe. I never mentioned or pushed for it. I just waited for her to ask. That is how she got into shooting sports. I made her play soccer for four years, and she hated it. She asked on her own to join the 4H Shooting Sports Team as soon as she was old enough. I told her that in addition to mandatory musical extra curricular activities (orchestra and band) she had to have one other one. She chose shooting sports. And she is a rock star at it. With purple hair.4 points

Personally I think the Hive should come back. This is America and its going through some turbulent times. We aren't being well represented by the political class and aren't being fed reality by the media. The pulse of the people is how one should judge the state of things. Censorship is merely a tool used by those wishing to control the conversation, for their purpose. Not saying that is going on here but I think we are/were extremely reserved as it is. Reality is a bitter pill at times, no need to sugar coat it. If we have members that are truly offended by our conversations, well, that says a lot about their character to me. If they don't have the self control to stay out of threads they don't want to be a part of, perhaps responsible firearm ownership isn't in their skill set either. Like it or not, firearms and politics are tied together, if we don't keep it alive we are helping to suppress reality. This is my .02 and I certainly don't expect to sway anyone, just wanted to add my opinion. As you were!2 points

I'm right handed and throw both spinning and bait casters right handed and crank with the left hand. Never understood why someone would want to set the hook with their non dominant arm. I swapped all my bait casters to left hand crank about 6 years ago.2 points

A guy in a news clip I seen this morning made a good point, no matter where you place the security perimeter at these events, there will be choke points that these terrorists will take advantage of. So while security may be expensive, I don't think it's all about $. I too accept the risk, but I face it well trained and armed; unlike most Europeans.2 points

I already give you the win for calling her Heathen. Lol My son asked for a mohawk at 8 and kept his hair that way for a long while. He would spray in different colored hair spray depending on where he was going since my kids' school is super (stupid) strict on it. I kept my hair waist length until a job loss a few years ago caused me to cut it. Too many bills, I needed an equal job quick. I did not have time for the "you don't look professional" bs. Most of the time it kept it black...you know Black No. 1. I have met clean cut scumbags and tat'd and pierced hardworking, family guys and gals that would drive 500 miles to help you out. Maybe if we teach our kids to see uniqueness as a real plus, they will make the world a little better.2 points

So it is no secret that my heathen was raised around guns. She has been shooting since she was four years old. She started with a single shot bolt action .22 rimfire rifle and has progressed to where she can and does shoot an AR at the range. As she turned 9 last year she was eligible for 4H Shooting Sports this season. We signed her up and her first practice was in April. At her very first practice her coach inquired as to her experience shooting. I explained that she had a handful of years under her and I hoped he didn't have to unteach too much of what I had taught her. To my mild surprise he stated that she was a pure natural and asked if she would be interested in shooting the first match of the season, less than two months away. The Heathen is right handed, but left eye dominant. I have raised her to shoot left handed rifle. I am also cross dominant and it has never hindered me to shoot off-hand to my dominant eye. The coaches embraced this and let her do her own thing. They are all very impressed with her. They call her a natural and have been teaching her on Target Air Rifle, Sport Air Rifle, Target .22 and Sport .22. She also shoots archery. With a recurve. Nearly alone in that discipline as nearly everyone else shoots compound (bare, hunting and target.) The coaches are awesome, and have gone as far as to special order her a left handed Target Air Rifle and a left handed Target .22. They have that much faith in her talent. And on to that talent. Saturday was a dreary rainy day in Kentucky. But it didn't stop her. It was her first competition with less than two months experience on a Target Air Rifle. She placed 3rd. We are beyond thrilled.1 point

I'm a city kid. Never been hunting in my life. Just not part of my upbringing. Consequently, my intro to guns was in the military and then the tactical/EBR era. Well, I've been thinking about getting a bolt action rifle for a minute and @robtattoo's for sale thread on that custom 280AI was the catalyst for me to get off my duff and get to it. (I came very close to getting it, but that weirdo caliber scared me off.) So after a little research I bought myself a Montana Rifle Company ASR in 308. It's got the absolute best trigger I have ever felt. It doesn't feel like it moves. It just breaks at 3#. It's nuts. The bolt design of the Model 1999 is a mixture of the Model 70 and the Mauser. She's a beautiful piece of work. I'm getting a killer discount on the optic from a friend of mine, but it's going to take a few weeks for that to come in. It's going to get a Nightforce NSX 3.5-15x50 MILR. My intent is to build a rifle that will forever be able to exceed my abilities. Here is the link to image gallery.1 point

Hi, I rarely post, just lurk a lot and take in the info! I had been looking for a pistol in 9mm or .45 to carry in my hydration pack when riding my dirtbike. Ive got several handguns, but wanted something that wouldn't be too heavy or too nice to get banged around. I picked up a sccy cpx-1 at the Outpost earlier this week for 200 bucks and took it to the range this morning. I put 150 rounds of speer lawman 124 grain and 150 rounds of Remington umc 115 grain through it. It performed perfectly, no jams, no fte's, nothing. It was pie-plate accurate out to 10 yards, which is all I expect from it. Recoil is a little snappy but not bad . ( my 13 yo daughter shot about 50 rounds and didn't complain), I have several other high-end pistols, but this is one that suits my needs perfectly. I guess my reason for this post is Ive read pros and cons, watched videos, etc , but it far exceeded my expectations. If I only had a budget of 200 for a pistol, this would be the one.1 point

This letter is a prime example of why being a cop or military doesn't make you a firearms expert or even have a gauge knowledge of firearms. http://www.knoxnews.com/story/opinion/readers/2017/05/24/letters-silencers-greed/340246001/ I may have to respond to this because it's pure fud and nonsense.1 point

...dyed my 10 year old daughter's hair purple. I wonder what her mother will say when she wakes up in the morning? My daughter went to her first competition of the season last weekend (her second season competing) and brought home 2nd place in all three disciplines she shot in, primitive archery (recurve,) BB and Target Air. I asked her what she wanted as a reward. She wanted to dye her hair purple for the summer. Today was the last day of school, so after her 'promotion' from Elementary to Middle School this morning, I decided that we could dye her hair purple. Her mother is unaware. Tomorrow is going to be very exciting.1 point

Guess what, guys. You can talk Second Amendment issues, even political ones, in the forum set aside for it! And I do mean Second Amendment related. If it's more than one-degree of separation from a Second Amendment issue, I don't want to see it - so don't try to stretch the boundaries. Make good choices!1 point

Man, you've got to have something to throw a shaky head or ned rig on, Spinning rods have a place in my boat. I have both hands on my reel but I noticed a tremendous increase it catch ratio after I made the switch. When flipping I have no wasted motion of swapping hands to reel either.1 point

I have no experience with the 41 but I have shot a few GSSF matches with my 21 and done pretty well.1 point

You gain sight radius with the 41, that's about all. The 41 has a slide that is the same width and thickness as the 36. That allows for no window cut in the top of the slide to lighten it. Theoretically it should cycle the same speed as the 21, but typically a long slide cycles slower than service sized one does. Everything else is the same, id probably go with the 21 if you use a red dot or the 41 if you use irons.1 point

It's fairly easy to make a "diy minnow aerator", just google whats in quotation marks and you'll get lots of hits & tips. I made one when I decided to try spider rigging for crappie, still out in the shed. I was able to keep minnows for several days, a few would die off daily but I bought like 3-4 dozen when I was experimenting. I used a fish tank aerator (110v) so that may/may not have had something to do with it. Keep the water you get when you buy the minnows, and then you need to "prepare" tap water to rid it of the chlorine which kills minners pretty quick. There are lots of good reviews of the Engle Bait cooler that the spider rigging guys rave about, they are a bit pricey but with the cost of minners, and you are dedicated to spider rigging, then it's $$ well spent. Using plastic for crappie is not hard, you just have to move the plastic bait a bit to give it "life" similar to a real minner if you are using 'em under a float or casting/retrieve the lure. I troll 99% of the time so I just have to find the right color and speed and depth the crappie are wanting that particular day. If you guys are after bass, well, no comment on that. LOL1 point

I haven't shot it yet, but here it is. It looks like Bubba's been ahold of the magazine, but it seems to work o.k. I believe Sarco has them in stock. There is a takedown tool, bore brush, pick, and grease can in the stock under the buttplate. So what is your opinion on firing commercial 308 ammo in this? The brochure I saw claimed that 308 ammo with any weight bullet would work fine, but the action is stamped 7.62 NATO.1 point

I wish I was as comfortable with plastics as I was with live bait and other artificial lures. Maybe I've just never put the time in - or gotten someone like Doug to really teach me what I need to know. It's something I'd love to get more comfortable with.1 point

Interestingly, the anti-Trump voices were not the ones complaining. Rather, the people who took vocal offense were actually the reverse. When you look at the data, a lot of our moderates simply logged out. Anecdotally, politics wasn't what interested them in the community - and as it took over the 'Unread Content' section - they just left. You might think that a gun forum would skew to the right - and you're mostly correct. But, it's not nearly the percentage of our population that you might think - nor does it skew as far to the right as you might think. In a community as large as ours, we resemble the population at large more closely than you might think. I think that's what caused us to press the pause button for a bit. It begs the question - what do you do when small segment of your population is poisoning the community at large? I have avoided booting a couple of folks that I probably shouldn't have. They bring nothing of value to our community and suck the air out of otherwise good dialog. Y'all certainly know that I like talking about big topics. But we've got to figure out a way to do it that makes sense and doesn't hurt the community at large. Feel free to discuss.1 point

Real problem is that the majority of the attacks in developed countries, "the terrorists" are not some outside force that needs to be prevented from entering the country, but resident nationals/citizens. Our worst mass shooting by a single person was the same, a native born citizen. (Pulse nightclub massacre). The "We're All Gonna Die Muslim Travel Ban" kind of pales in importance when the real war seems more about ideology, and you have millions of possible citizen perps. - OS1 point

US you beat me to it lol. I bought a CPX2 several weeks ago and have put 140 rounds thru it. Very satisfied for what it is. Some folks simply are not 'gun guys' or don't want to tie up a lot of money to lay on a shelf or keep on a car. I paid 206 out the door. My main interests were would it hold up and could one with weak arthritic hands manipulate it. The slide lock is large and simple and a 75 yo women worked it much better than any other auto she tried other than a 22 compact. So as of now I would recommend it for non- shooters that want an inexpensive gun. It does shoot accurately with good simple sights, long double-action only trigger with 2nd strike capability. And oh yes, great color selection1 point
