It only seems like a few days have passed sine we experienced the helpless feeling of bringing home a brand new human being. No instruction manual, no warranty; nothing. I guess we must have done something right. He's graduating 15th out of more than 200, made all district on the baseball team, and has an academic scholarship to TN Tech in the fall. I guess he doesn't need us much anymore.8 points

I was in graduate school in Seattle in the mid-90's. It was a year or two after peak-grunge, but it was a great place musically (I still mourn KMTT The Mountain.) I needed a few more hours one semester and actually ended up in a class with Chris Cornell's mom. Two things struck me, even then. One, it was cool of him to pay for his mom to go to school. Second, she was so proud of him. Depression is a disease and it can affect anyone. Man, if you need help - talk to someone. There are a bunch of us here who would drop what were doing to climb down in that hole with you. He'll be sorely missed.6 points

http://www.cnn.com/2017/05/18/politics/china-us-jets-intercept/ I hope the Chinese RIO took a nice Polaroid, and that this earns the crew a shot at Chinese Top Gun, where, after a game of beach volleyball, they discover that one of the female instructors has, in fact, lost that loving feeling.3 points

uploading images A D.C.-based appeals court struck down a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rule on Friday requiring recreational drone users to register their model aircraft with the federal government, in a major win for drone hobbyists. http://thehill.com/policy/transportation/334233-appeals-court-strikes-down-federal-registration-rule-for-toy-drones2 points

Something is wrong with that story. You don’t set-up a meet with someone that is probably armed so you can take their car. You take it from some poor sap on the street.2 points

We used to call it losing them to fumes, fumes of gasoline mixed with perfume... and that is an awesome picture2 points

All my private firearm sales and buys are with TGOers with a lot of posts or with good iTrader feedback from members I know or who also have a lot of posts. Anything else like Craigslist gets done at the local police station, and then only after an actual telephone call. You can get a pretty good feel for most folks by a phone call. That's something you don't get with chat and email.2 points

Awesome! Some of the best engineers I know came out of TTU and UT Martin.2 points

Thankfully I have always been lucky and even ended up making good friends from buys over the years...But 98% of my buys are from fellow TGO members.2 points
-
I have gone a few times to purchase a firearm in a public place alone but it was always a TGO member in good standings. If I was meeting someone not a TGO member I never went alone but had an armed friend with me to watch everything going on.2 points

This article makes a point I hadn't thought of... Eddie Vedder is the only one left. Chris Cornell, Layne Staley, Curt Cobain, Scott Weiland, .... And no disrespect to Jerry Cantrell, but I think he would agree. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/05/19/after-chris-cornells-death-only-eddie-vedder-is-left-let-that-sink-in/?utm_term=.422733c228612 points

I still can't figure where a carry permit or a background check fits into the phrase "shall not be infringed". All of it seems akin to a poll tax if you ask me....and we all know how everyone feels about a poll tax.2 points

I've been carrying this one for a while as a backup knife. She finally bit me today. Normally not a serrated blade kind of guy but I love this one!1 point

Good for the D.C. Appeals court. I doubt that'll stick given the threat misused drones pose to private and commercial aircraft. If quadrotor users would abide by the long established rules for model aircraft operation, this wouldn't have been an issue. I suspect the FAA will redefine the rule to only apply to true drones, those capable of autonomous flight.1 point

Be Careful Guys...I just heard about a guy in Ooltewah meeting up to buy a gun and was robbed by the seller.....It is in the news so facts are still being gathered.....1 point

A coworkers daughter is in ME at UAH at the moment. I can see why....1 point

After reading the news release it almost sounds like it was a deal made between them for the guy to take his car so he could collect the insurance money on it or get ou of paying for it with insurance paying it off for him. I have heard of that happening a few times but they always got caught in insurance fraud sooner or later............jmho1 point

This hurt me bad. I've never been a big fan of Nirvana or Pearl Jam but AIC and the bands Chris fronted rocked my little slice of the world. Let's add Scott Weilend to that list too. Just, Damn. Words are hard to come by to express my sadness at all the loss. This loss and the way it seems to have gone down was something I never expected. Thank you Chris for the great entertainement you gave me.1 point

Mine is He needs you even more, just not as helicopter parents. Just the transition from high school to college is a huge change in his life. He needs your wisdom to make good decisions and stay focused on those things he has done to be successful to this point in his life. Most at 18-19, (or under 30) despite any level of maturity, drive, desire or talent, would not fit the definition of wise. The challenge and opportunity is to how be great parents, coaches, mentors and his support system from a remote location. Phone, text, Facebook, Skype...lots of ways to build your communication network of love!1 point

Yes, my youngest graduated with honors on Saturday lettered in football and is going to tech on an academic/rotc scholarship...maybe we should hook them up...they both seem more driven than I was at that age! And yes just seems like yesterday we brought him home... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk1 point

In other words, because regardless of the rules they are supposed to follow and how clearly those rules are written, the people who can ruin your life and send you to prison think it ought to be that way. Unfortunately.1 point

I love the G-10 scales on the civilian - but the FRN on the Matriarch cuts a lot of weight and is plenty robust in its own right. I love love love the Emerson Wave feature on the Matriarch 2. If you've never used a knife with that feature - it gets the blade into action faster than just about anything out there.1 point

Meeting a random person locally to buy a gun is always a risk. Best you can do is watch for warning signs and be very cautious of deals that are too good to be true.1 point

Poor planning on the buyers part for sure, luckily he wasn't hurt. Hopefully he learned a life lesson at least.1 point

He was truly talented! This is a shame. 3 kids and one of the best voices of this generation. He had some dark music and I guess a dark life. Very sad! RIP1 point

If you buy a gun from an FFL in Mississippi and you do not have a MS firearms license, your information is called into the FBI NICS system. You DO NOT pay a fee to the FBI for your background check. If you do have a MS firearms license, that acts as a background check substitute and your information is not called in. You just fill out the FFL 4473 and the dealer writes down your firearms license information in an area on the 4473. Mississippi does not have its own gun background check system like TN.1 point

I know you have probably already looked, but the 2017 Standard Catalog of Firearms states the post ban Colt Match Target Lightweight is valued at 900 nib, 800 exc, and 650 vg. Take that with a whole spoon of salt though with the way prices are diving. I do not see a definite match for the DPMS there.1 point
