  2. Just got back from a business trip in Atlanta. Stay vigilant while you are there. Someone decided to shatter my driver side truck window so they could steal my first aid kit... A total of 7 cars had windows shattered in the hotel parking lot. This was in mid-town Atlanta at a Courtyard. The local hotel said Marriott would contact me to take care of things. Well today they did. Only their idea of "taking care of things" was to give me a claim number and say to file a claim with my insurance. While that is Marriott's right, they have signs everywhere saying to leave no valuables, park at own risk, etc., it's my right to choose another hotel from now on. I've probably spent 90 nights in that hotel over the last few years. Rant over - whew that felt good!

  5. Oh, the boys at Negotiating Rights Away absolutely operate like that. There's too much money at risk otherwise.

  6. I have come to believe that a certain well known gun rights organization operates kind of like the firefighters we hear about every once in a while who start fires so that they can be 'heroes' by putting them out. If things swing too far in gun owners' direction it might put them out of business so they have to periodically create a problem so that they will have something to lobby against a few years down the road.

  7. There may be old built up gunk that you can't see [in the rail slot(s)] Did you try putting the slide on without the spring, to see if it was smooth? It is possible [I pray not] that the slide is slightly bent, hard to say without holding it myself. Glad to hear it is smooth in normal function now. Shoot it, then look for any new abnormal wear when you take it down again. If it has old gunk, and after your kroil bath, it should shoot free with use. To check if the slide has any bent spots, put a SS ruler along the sides. inside and out. Love them little mouse Colts [and some others too].

  8. Last Monday. My GFs 40ish niece and her 19 yo son are visiting from upstate New York. The niece hunts with a .243, but neither had ever fired a handgun. So I loaded up a bunch of guns and ammo and off to the range we went. We shot .22s, .38s, .357s, 9mm and .a .45 1911. Both did surprisingly well for their first time. The niece is a bit of a Tom Boy and fell in love with my 4" S&W Model 19 firing full house 158 JHP Magnums. The son took a real shine to my old S&W Model 39-2 9mm. My GF got in some trigger time on her two .38s. and put a little over 100 rounds down range. As for me, well I spent most of my time teaching and supervising the noobies. But I enjoyed it just as much as they did.

  11. You're not getting email because Yahoo.com says your email address isn't valid. So that's the reason for your problems.

  13. I'm right there with you. Frankly it's the largest reason I pay to be a member of the forums - and I'm not able to make best use of the one feature I value most (hawking the classifieds).

  15. That is the Burris. I bought this from another forum member. He bought the gun and scope and then never shot it so he sold everything to me. I had planned to put a third ring on the scope. I figured better safe than sorry when it comes to recoil.

  16. Just picked up my first 1903. These are cool little guns. This one was made in 1913. Not bad looking for 104 years old. The 1903 is a .32. The 1908s, which look the same, are .380. I will probably end up getting one of those also. The slide is tight and a little sticky. I need to stip it and give it a good cleaning and then off to the range.

  17. And not to forget my great TP9SF Desert [since it was mentioned above] What a reliable, balanced, accurate little jewel.

  18. Looking at the Colt website it was made in 1918. The brown spots on the front of the gun appear to be something like shellac and not rust.

  19. Ya, many years ago it was common practice to put [shellac] on worn areas, to combat rust, etc.

  20. Yeh, I've been a member there for years. Like the Military matches they have. They are looking for Range Officers. I've never gone and gone and found the gate locked though.

  21. Soft pure lead is usually worth more than unknown alloyed lead. Price of pure lead at the scrap dealer locally runs about 60 to 80 cents a lb. IF in ingot form and stamped by the mfg. should be worth a mim. of $1.00 lb. Usually local scrap pay .25/lb. then sell for .40/lb for dirty lead. I bought a sailboat keel 98% pb,1.29sb. that weighed 0ver 1600 lbs a few years ago. I melted it and poured 7 to 8 lb ingots. Used a chain hoist to hang it up and a Harbor Freight propane weed burner to melt it down into a large pot and ladled it into ingots. Chain saw also works to cut large pieces. Put a tarp down to catch shavings. Pure lead can be scratched with your fingernail, about 8 bhn hard. A lot of hard work to smelt and flux to remove impurities.

  22. I don't see what the problem is anyway! It is clearly stated in their rules that violence IS NOT ALLOWED. That means the assault cannot happen anyway....gun or not.

  23. Thank you MemHeli. I tried following the forum using the other link you mentioned on Monday. Still nothing here as far as notifications for the classified forum. I'd say that I'm getting a litle upset but that wouldn't be accurate as I have been extremely upset about this for a while now. This absolutely sucks and there doesn't seem to be anything that is going to be done to rectify it.

  25. Best thing for hills and such. Let some air out. About 8-9lbs in the rear tires is all you need. I used to mow some 45* or higher hills.

  29. I've now mowed with this new Bad Boy, and it's everything I hoped it would be. It's like mowing with a really fast, good riding bulldozer! It cut my mowing time from 3.5 to 2 hours. As long as it remains reliable, I'll be very happy with it. I wish I'd have bought one a long time ago. It also stays on a hill well, unlike the smaller ztr I have.

  32. 130 miles apart, and I'm just about smack in between Manchester and Green River, so that makes them both about an hours drive, which I'll do for a local match. I'll even drive the 80 miles to Music city on occasion (not lately though). I'm just being selfish. With Gallatin gone, Manchester and Green river are my only local IDPA options. Too bad you missed the BUG match. The rain stopped before set-up and didn't start up again till we were done. Lot's of strong hand and weak hand strings, and lots of dead no-shoots.

  34. So I've done a little work on the gun with the help of Numrich. New barrel, bushing, and link. Springs, firing pin and replica grips. Soaked and cleaned the weapon but haven't altered the finish in any way. Should be ready for a range trip once I hand load a few moderately charged rounds.

  35. I picked up a full size and a compact years ago. Sold the full size and kept the compact. Not a bad gun except for those crappy trapezoidal sights. I put a standard sight on my compact and I can actually hit the target now...lol.

  36. I'll believe this when CMP announces it. Until then, its just added to the carbines and 1911s that have been rumored for years.

  37. Wow… I’ll keep that in mind. I was just passing along a killer deal. There are probably still some grown men that can handle that round and are looking for a small pistol; but maybe not.

  38. APX. In our modern world of firearms, where they can and should be extremely easy to maintain... ... my people (I'm Italian) have again shown their propensity to hit the vino while working, and designed this where you have to have three hands to field strip. You have to hold the frame, pull the slide back, and while you're doing that, you have to be pushing in a small button with a punch or a pen. Marrone. Stupid.
