  2. It's all a matter of motivation. Those kids had no intention of killing anyone, they were hoping their show of force would scare folks into submission. Except some folks don't scare so easily and are mentally prepared to act quickly and decisively. They were shocked and unprepared for anyone to fight back, and it cost them dearly.

  4. Gunsmithing Services View Advert Hey guys, many of you know me here but I've had a lot of folks inquire about services or see something and not know that I offered that. My biz name is a little misleading I apologize for that. I'm a full service gunsmithing shop that does 99% labor type work. I moved my shop to Oliver Springs a little over a year ago. Things are running great so I wanted to throw this out there in case you need anything I can provide. First and foremost I will work on almost anything. I have been working on guns for 35 years now. Started off at my grandfather's pawn shop back in the early 80s. I moved to Oak Ridge in 2008 and opened Law Enforcement Sales early 2010 and have been steady smithing since. Since inception I have had a 07/02 manufacturing license for both title 1 and title 2 firearms. Began heavily on the LE side but my customer base has grown more than I could have ever imagined and I now do way more work for the general public. Little about me, I have been a commissioned law enforcement officer since 2001, worked 7 years as a SC State Constable working all over the state. I am currently serving as a Sergeant with the Anderson County Sheriff's Department which I joined in 2008 and have been an active Reserve Deputy with them since. I am also a VP at Wells Fargo bank working in their securities/loss area as a Software Engineer. I've compile a list of things I usually work on but again, the sky is the limit. I will 100% be upfront if there is a job I am not comfortable with. I have not done everything but I have found I tend to get the more difficult jobs around the area none of the other smiths want to deal with. I feel my prices are very competitive and I always charge what a job is worth not what my time invested is. Services Sales Affiliated with most the industries distributors. I don't do much retail because of TN's sales tax it's currently impossible to compete with the internet. I want you guys to get the best price you can but I do have those customers who want to buy from me and I don't mind helping search something down and getting it. I am a East TN SilencerCo SPEQ dealer. They offer great prices to LE, Military, First Responders (EMS, etc.). Call for special pricing. They offer a couple times per year this discount to Veterans too. Transfers Title 1 transfers - $20 INCLUDEDs TBI background. 5. Been in quite a slump myself. Between starting a new job a few months ago, completing a PMP class, and getting ready to move from Murfreesboro to Nashville, my free time has been very curtailed. But...I'm settling into the job nicely, done with the PMP class (though I still need to study for the exam), and I'll be moved this week, so it's time to get back to the range. Perfect timing on this thread to help keep me focused.

  6. I shoot pistol and/or shotgun pretty much every week in my backyard. The layout of the backyard and the surrounding woods pretty much sold me on the place, thankfully the boss liked the house . I figure anything much larger/louder than pistols would probably have the neighbors up in arms. Hoping to get a can soon so that might change. It's been a few months since I've had any of the long guns out to the range. Shot recently in a downpour with my LCP with its Crimson Trace laser. The laser didn't last 7 minutes in heavy rain before crapping out. The LCP performed flawlessly, as have any of the guns shot in the rain. I took the laser off the gun while I was cleaning/drying it and let it sit open for a couple days to dry out. It's been working fine since it dried out but I found that to be valuable information. I've previously used several weapon lights of the self contained variety (as apposed to sandwiched around a trigger guard) and they usually perform better in the elements. I was stationed in WA state for several years and shot in the rain more often than not. A couple helpful things for long guns was to smear a bit of bolt grease in the scope ring screws to prevent water from sitting in them and starting to rust. It's possible a shot of WD40 would serve the same purpose. Also a product named "Cat Crap" is helpful on lenses to prevent fogging and makes water bead up and easier blow off. Shooters Choice makes a product called rust prevent that is kind of like WD40 on steroids for water displacement/rust prevention. It works great for prolonged wet hunting/shooting trips where your firearm is pretty much soaked the whole time. After rain/ pre cleaning can be done a bit easier using compressed air to "dry" the firearm prior to cleaning. Care should be taken using compressed air around the optics however and thought should be given to any nooks and crannies that you might have forced water into lest you end up with hidden areas of rust.

  7. Since I'm currently retired I get an opportunity to get out to the range quite a bit. At least twice a week I get out to the range to practice either with my handguns or rifles. Depending on the week I shoot at least two competitions each week. During IDPA and USPSA matches we always shoot a second gun which means we go through the stages two separate times. I usually put down range around 1000 to 1200 rounds a week. And yes my arm hurts from all the reloading.

  8. Gore tex. Expensive but worth the $$ to me. I wore gore tex rain suits when I rode motorcycles, and my handle back then was "rainman". It always rained on the group when I rode with 'em. LOL

  9. If you keep the blades sharp it will cut at this speed too. I have a large yard and spent at least 2.5 - 3 hours every time I cut it with a 52" Cub Cadet lawn tractor mower. Since I purchased a 61" Badboy I can have it cut in under 2 hours and it looks better than it ever looked with the lawn tractor style mowers.

  11. I am curious. When is the last time you got out and did some shooting? Did you just go to the range for some target practice, were you shooting in a competition, or was it at a class? It seems like a lot of folks that I've spoken with lately are in a slump and haven't gotten out very recently to shoot. Granted, the weather this weekend hasn't been the best for it either but I got out yesterday anyway in the middle of probably the most torrential rain we've had recently and ran a few guns in it just to see how they (and I) would handle less than ideal conditions. No surprises, I and they did just fine. One thing that became very apparent to me in the middle of the downpour -- and I do mean that I shot out in the downpour, not under shelter -- was that the M&P M2.0 grip texture was a godsend and the Sig P320 grip texture left much to be desired. I am glad that I have a grip module out for stippling with a gentleman in Arizona and can't wait to see how it stacks up when it returns. That's really my only gripe about the P320. How about you? I am sure that some of the competitive shooters here and any local infantry grunts (current or former) have shot in the yuck and muck, but do any of the rest of you do this occasionally to test your gear, your abilities and yourself?

  12. Hey guys, after shooting/training for a few hours today in heavy rain, I learned that my camo rain gear isn't what I was hoping it would be. What do you guys use that's been tested and works!? I mean really works, even when you are in the elements for a long time. Thanks. Tom

  13. I've only shot a few and I believe it's a great place to start. A gun, holster, mag pouch (but I have seen guys just use jacket pockets), three mags, cover, and ammo. No flashlight. Sign up and read the range rules before you get there. Watch the other shooters and ask questions. Go slow and don't worry about impressing the other shooters.

  14. I made it to the range 2x's last week, (Monday & Saturday) both related to the ARA match held 4/22 @ ORSA, rained off and on for the first 3 cards/targets, and then it tried to clear up for the last 3, caught a glimpse of blue sky but it didn't last long, and stayed mostly cloudy. I usually try to get to the range at least weekly but don't always make it. It's an hour drive for me one way, so I try to make the most of my time there.

  16. I don't think so. Their S&W sales have centered on the M1 versions and the 25-75 buck rebates on them. I honestly thought it was Primary Arms, but haven't found it on their site. Maybe was a short, daily sale and I missed it. But thanks for the thoughts.

  19. When Reagan did it, there was much less water over the dam. This is all carved in stone now. The Democrats want semi-auto rifles and handguns gone, magazines over 10 rounds gone, a background check any time gun changes hands, and a gun registry. You won't see the Republican PARTY make any of that a published set of goals. Reagan is not some kind of god to me. He had some good stuff, but was still an ex-Democrat from California. I will still take him over any of the Democrats, or Gary Johnson.

  20. No he's not. I will say that Mike has a good point so the meme isn't 100% fair. If Obama had his way I have no doubt would would have seen much more damage done. That being said, the hypocrisy from conservatives on this issue is yet another reason why I'm continuously annoyed with both parties.

  21. Here is what I have learned: If a Republican president passes gun control, Republican response="well it could have been worse, thank god X wasn't elected..." If a Democrat president even suggests gun control, Republicans response = "marshall" law and FEMA camps will be next.." (see if you can guess which word I intentionally misspelled)

  23. I have an Aerostitch suit for riding it's the best combo I've found for that, goretex, armor etc. But when setting up camp splitting wood etc. I get soaked from the inside out. The goretex can't handle the heat load. I carry a frog togg jacket and pants for work and play it just works better. Wicking undershirt maybe a light fleece if it's cool underneath. Dry and warm with low activity is very different from dry and warm when working. My dad swore by a simple wool jacket treated with lanolin. Waxed canvas jacket for heavy rain.

  24. Ha! Great thread and very coincidental to my own questions after shooting out in the worst of it yesterday as well. My Carhartt "Force" jacket did pretty good for the first little bit but it was soaked through by the time it was over with.

  27. Look at what motorcyclists use. Driving 70mph in the rain will test the waterproofness. There are several things to consider here... Rainwear is waterproof in both directions. If you are working hard you will be wet from sweat. Goretex can't handle the volume caused by working hard. Good wicking base layers help a ton. Durability, does it need to be tough enough to crawl around on the ground in? If durability isn't the highest priority look at frog toggs or similar. Light remarkably waterproof easy to pack.

  30. Yes he is. Reagan got LOT's of cooperation. Obama didn't. If Obama would have been as successful as Reagan, he would have done a lot more damage. Republicans and Democrats have some of the same qualities, but they are NOT the same.

  32. From another site discussing this. So, much for those that think fighting back or, drawing against the drop is futile. This guy fought back against multiple assailants, disarmed one and was able to shoot all of them. It just goes to show that even when facing a UN-winnable situation, you can still WIN.

  33. I wouldn’t walk across the street to get a Glock for free if I had to keep it. I almost said that trigger was as bad as a Glock. But it truly was worse than that; if that’s even possible. I did get another 686 last night though.

  34. Well got to meet another TGO member today. Went and picked up the washer and dryer and got to meet btq96r and he is a very nice guy for sure. Didn't get to spend a lot of time visiting but he was more than glad to help us load the appliances. I enjoyed meeting another member and being able to put a face with a name. I want to thank you again B for the appliances and your help. It is greatly appreciated.....

  35. I'll agree with you there aren't any Tupperware/striker guns that can match a decent 1911 trigger. I have a nice selection of S&W revolvers and the new ones aren't like the older ones. I have a shield 9mm and the trigger is acceptable for what it is. A 1911 it aint... I picked up a Canik elite and was stunned by the quality of the trigger. I bought it on the spot, even made sure I got the one I had handled and not one from the back stock. Some don't like them because they are made in turkey. I'm not so bothered by it. If you are looking for a reasonably priced 9mm with a remarkable trigger. Give it a look. Frankly I am still shaking my head. It beats any other striker poly gun I've ever handled for trigger, and accuracy. It's not a 1911 trigger but it's the best I've found so far...

  36. Well, see, that was just a woman illegally buying guns, falsifying police reports and selling the guns to gangs. If this had been a case of a woman using a firearm to defend her life from one of those, same gang members I imagine they would have thrown the book at her.

  37. This all started almost a month ago. With no notice, a company listed some Colt USMC M45A1 CQBP for sale on Gunbroker. The seller claimed that these were the actual guns issued to and carried in theater by USMC Special Operations units, including Force Recon. People were very skeptical and thought this had to be a scam. I mean when was the last time you could buy an actual, carried military handgun. A discussion started on the Colt forum and the 1911 forum about these. Some of the guys knew some Colt employees and called them. Colt verified that these were the actual guns sold to and carried by the USMC Special Operations units. The USMC was not happy with the way the coating was holding up and returned a batch to Colt to be replaced. Colt inspected the M45A1s and issued a letter of authenticity with them and x out the USMC to show they had been demilled. Then sold the entire lot to the company selling them on Gunbroker. Now before you could even buy one you had to sign up for the Gunbroker Gold program. It is $50/year and gives you access supposedly to some good deals. These went up for sale Friday afternoon and were sold out by Monday morning. A couple of guys have stated tracking all the sales and compiling a list of the serial numbers. It looks like approx. 475 of the used guns were sold. Word is that there will not be anymore used ones. Then people started hearing rumors of some more guns that were going to be available but these were supposed to be “nib”. Meaning they were bought by the USMC and shipped to their armories but not carried. These went up for sale at a little higher price at the beginning of last week. They sold approx 368 of these with the majority going in the first two hours. They would put a small batch sell them and then raise the price for the next batch. I think they underestimated what the demand for these would be. These have become instant collectibles. Some of the used ones have shown back up on Gunbroker selling for 2.5-3 times what they cost. I was lucky enough to get one of the used ones and one of the “nib” ones. I just got the used one and the “nib” one should arrive next week.

  41. That's quite a bit. I can tell you without a doubt that i would want a commercial for that much. I have a John Deere z950m that I think is perfect. Got it for $9900 out the door. Well worth the extra 4K. Better built and you can mow much faster. If you aren't limited to 5k, I highly recommend going for the commercial series. John Deere or Exmark for me. JD will mow better if you ever mow damp or wet grass. The Exmarks are too tightly baffled for wet grass.
