The other side of the MOAB story...and one the Pentagon is very much hoping the cool bomb hoopla distracts you from is that fact that Afghanistan is falling to the enemy and fast. ISIS (or ISIS-K as they're called there apparently) being responsible for the death of a USSF Soldier is pretty disturbing by itself, but the Taliban is holding land in key regions of the country again. That Afghan Army and government we sacrificed time, lives, resources, and money to establish isn't up to the task, and after 15 1/2 years we've got very little to show for our efforts in the country. Everything after routing Al Qaeda in '01 & '02 was pretty much a waste, and shows again, that we're pretty good at the war part, but the occupying part isn't our forte because we lack the generational commitment. But please, continue to raise the table 6" because we dropped a big bomb and ignore the disaster that is our war in Afghanistan.3 points

This all started almost a month ago. With no notice, a company listed some Colt USMC M45A1 CQBP for sale on Gunbroker. The seller claimed that these were the actual guns issued to and carried in theater by USMC Special Operations units, including Force Recon. People were very skeptical and thought this had to be a scam. I mean when was the last time you could buy an actual, carried military handgun. A discussion started on the Colt forum and the 1911 forum about these. Some of the guys knew some Colt employees and called them. Colt verified that these were the actual guns sold to and carried by the USMC Special Operations units. The USMC was not happy with the way the coating was holding up and returned a batch to Colt to be replaced. Colt inspected the M45A1s and issued a letter of authenticity with them and x out the USMC to show they had been demilled. Then sold the entire lot to the company selling them on Gunbroker. Now before you could even buy one you had to sign up for the Gunbroker Gold program. It is $50/year and gives you access supposedly to some good deals. These went up for sale Friday afternoon and were sold out by Monday morning. A couple of guys have stated tracking all the sales and compiling a list of the serial numbers. It looks like approx. 475 of the used guns were sold. Word is that there will not be anymore used ones. Then people started hearing rumors of some more guns that were going to be available but these were supposed to be “nib”. Meaning they were bought by the USMC and shipped to their armories but not carried. These went up for sale at a little higher price at the beginning of last week. They sold approx 368 of these with the majority going in the first two hours. They would put a small batch sell them and then raise the price for the next batch. I think they underestimated what the demand for these would be. These have become instant collectibles. Some of the used ones have shown back up on Gunbroker selling for 2.5-3 times what they cost. I was lucky enough to get one of the used ones and one of the “nib” ones. I just got the used one and the “nib” one should arrive next week.2 points

Meh. I think the use of the MOAB weapon was equal parts testing it out, having some "fun" with a big ass bomb on some assholes who seriously deserved it, and sending a message to anyone who feels that a demonstration of our might and prowess is relevant to them and their interests. An All Points Bulletin of sorts to say, "Hey check this out... we've still got toys we haven't even popped on scumbags yet. Remember us?" As for Afghanistan, other than keeping ISIS, ISIS-K, SPECTRE, Hydra, HIVE, and any other miscreant organizations suppressed, who really thinks we have an end-game there that includes a stable democracy and a McDonald's on every street corner? That's never going to happen. The best we can hope for is that Al Qaeda, ISIS and the Legion of Doom are either wiped out or kept at bay, and the rest of the country somewhat peacefully goes back to the caveman #### they've been doing for eons. Stuff like growing poppies for opium, screwing goats, subjugating their women, and dressing up little boys to look like little girls so they can screw them instead of goats. Come to think of it, we should probably just rescue all of the women, children and goats, and then nuke the whole goddamn place. We haven't used one of those boomsticks lately either and the world kind of needs THAT reminder too.2 points

Affinity tool works is the USA importer for Tormek, I need to give them some serious praise this my friends goes beyond Customer service! Sadly a few weeks back my brand new Tormek T8 had a unusual noise starting to be a regular issue, I called the company I bought it from, they put me in touch with Affinity tool. Just through email I let them know all was well a couple of days earlier as the noise appeared to go away, A lady from the company called me and said they would like me to send my Machine to them, while on the phone, I started the machine and sure enough the noise was back, this noise was there with everything removed so I knew for a fact it was the motor, possibly a bearing they sent me an overnight Fed Ex shipping label that they paid for, I told them I needed my machine back ASAP, they overnighted me a brand new T7 to use while my new motor comes from Sweden, I still have this T7 setup and I love it, i started thinking it would be great to have 2 Tormek I could keep my Black stone that I use for sharpening on the T8 and put the Japanese water stone on the T7 last week I asked them what they would charge me if I kept the system, $499.95 was the answer, this is a great price, so I said I'll think about it. I sent them an email asking what would they charge me just for the machine as I never used the standard stone, I never received a reply. Today this AM I sent an email saying I really did not need another system, so I would be sending their T7 back once my T8 arrives. She replied saying that is fine if I want to send it back, but her offer still stands. I asked again what if I kept the machine and send back the stone and other items I do not need, what would my price be? She replied $0.00 please send the stone back and keep the T7 your T8 will ship back to you next week, Happy Easter! Needless to say I am overwhelmed by this, sorry I just had to share!2 points

I think this is just another example of how government is on-call to enforce edicts from business interests. Unless it's a health or safety issue, officers should not be willing to enforce on behalf of the airlines. United had a problem that was 100% business created, and therefore should have been 100% business solved. Forcing a booked, ticketed, checked, and seated passenger off a plane should never be a police function because there is no public danger in play.2 points

Just wanted to give the guys in this area a heads up. They opened yesterday afternoon and are going to have their grand opening next Friday. They have a ton of .22 ammo but I wasn't overly impressed with their prices. I believe they may be a little lower then Basspro but it's been a while since I was there. A couple I remember.....Federal Automatch 325 rnd. for $22.99 and CCI Mini-Mag 100 rnd. for $9.99..1 point

Well there has been a twist in this story. I got delayed a bit due to needing tires and ball joints for my truck. The deal I had lined up fell though due to the dealer/sales guy. So when my good deal on the xt250 fell though, give me time to look at my other options a bit. I put some thought into my Need verse my want. The main type of riding I will be doing A to B around town being the need. My want being street legal and able to do off road, old strip mine roads. I sat and and put thought into it, how often am I really going to do that, 2 times a year maybe? I guess I will just continue to use the 4 wheeler dad and I share for that. I decided the dual sport XT250 was more of a want, then a need. So started looking at my street bike options, that fit the budget I decided I was willing to be in. So i got different price ranges for a couple different models, made my notes. Figured the range I should be able to get a deal in. @DaveTN I called the sales guy I had already met at my closest shop. Went down in person today, wasn't sure at first we were going to get the deal i wanted, but I had my numbers that wanted to go with. I made an offer, got a counter offer that was reasonable. Signed paper. Also my pre approved loan from last month was honored even though a new higher rate has went in. I was with in 30 days. Picked out a new Full Face Helmet as well. Going to pick it up next Wednesday or Thursday. My insurance guy told me not to leave the shop with it until he had it on file. Seems my auto insurance doesn't cover me for a few days on a motorcycle like my car insurance covers me on a another car for a few days. Yamaha V Star 250. It is very similar to the Honda Rebel that I loved.1 point

Smokey Mountain Knife Works sells guns and if you are there might as well hit Buds Gun Shop as well since they share the same parking lot. The largest used gun collection I have ever seen has been at Shylock's Pawn in Tazewell (Only TAZEWELL). They almost always have some older revolvers. I have seen Dan Wessons revolvers there for $350 and they always have a few Smiths. They had a new in the box Remington XP100 in 223 Remington for $800, if I could have afforded it I would have snatched it up. They had a Remington model 41 in like new condition for $850. Useable single shot shotguns in any caliber for $60, not remotely pretty but useable. Bought an all stainless 10/22 there for $175 several years ago. Might give Mike's Gun Shop in Tazewell a call. He has a huge selection of guns, mostly new, but he also has a decent selection of used guns as well. I would get a list of pawn shops in the area and call each one a few days before to see if any of them have what you are looking for.1 point

Cheaper than you would think. The company that sold these could have made twice as much had they priced the original run correctly. The used guns went for $1299 and $1349. The "nib" started at $1890. They steadily increased the price of those as the sold. They have like 17 left and they are priced at 2995.95. I paid $1349 for the used and got one of the first "nib" ones for $1890.1 point

I'll be there with Mike Dresner. We are bringing some of our machine guns, mainly belt feds for a red carpet entrance to the after party on Saturday for all the big named companies (vortex, eotech, etc). They will be taking pictures with our guns. Pretty excited to say the least.1 point

Honestly they should have never forcibly removed anyone for the sake of flying employees in my book. It's the airlines problem and not the passengers. They could have placed them on another flight or found a different solution. Everyone has a price. They could have kept upping the offer for someone to disembark until they got volunteers. It would have been cheaper than the mess they are paying for now.....just sayin'.1 point

I'm sure United could have handled this entire matter differently but they screwed up big time. There are many alternatives to getting their flight crew 295 miles to a new location without disturbing paying customers like they did. Several alternatives have already been mentioned. United could have checked other airlines for flights going to same location and put them on another company's plane that was not over booked. I'm sure any other airline would have been more than glad to help out..........jmho1 point

No, the proper solution was to deal with the overbooking before boarding. Once boarded, there should be no reason to get off unless it is a security issue. They also need to figure out the crew assignments better, how is it that the crew could not take another flight, or a 4hr bus trip for that matter. If crew rest would of been impacted, then they should of been sent off the day before.1 point

Finally acquired a WWII Springfreld M1 Garand. Serial number says it's from May 1942 that was rebuilt in 1947. She's greased up and ready to go to the range. I want to get some accessories for it, like a cleaning kit, bayonet, ammo pouch, but I'm trying to not spend more money right now! Hope you enjoy h1 point

Looks like you had a great party! I'm trying to talk my neighbor into letting me shoot his old one so he can replace it. Told him he could tell his agent that all the high winds lately had picked up rocks and just filled it with holes.1 point
