  1. Can't really comment on their products as I have no experience with them but SCCY is going to start manufacturing handguns in Maryville, as well as moving headquarters there. 350 new jobs and a new gun manufacturer for Tennessee. http://www.knoxnews.com/story/money/business/2017/04/12/firearms-maker-sccy-brings-350-jobs-headquarters-blount-county/100339078/

  5. No, the proper solution was to deal with the overbooking before boarding. Once boarded, there should be no reason to get off unless it is a security issue. They also need to figure out the crew assignments better, how is it that the crew could not take another flight, or a 4hr bus trip for that matter. If crew rest would of been impacted, then they should of been sent off the day before.

  6. Karma has been quite good to me lately, so I'm just looking to pass some down the chain. I'll be moving into a new apartment in a few weeks, and it already comes with a washer & dryer. So, instead of putting what I have no into storage, I figure I would bequeath it to an individual or family that can get some use from it. They're not the latest models, about 10yrs old in fact, but they still work just fine and I've never had a problem. Instead of them just sitting in a garage for years on end, I'd like these to go to someone who would actually need it...a family just starting out on their own, someone who can't afford one and has to go to a laundromat despite hookups in their place, something like that. If you know of anyone who would fit the bill, or can find someone through your social circles, church group, or other networks, please let me know. I'll be ready to come off them in two weeks, and would ask that someone come to Murfreesboro that weekend to pick them up. Please reply or PM with any takers. Thanks for reading.

  7. I think this is just another example of how government is on-call to enforce edicts from business interests. Unless it's a health or safety issue, officers should not be willing to enforce on behalf of the airlines. United had a problem that was 100% business created, and therefore should have been 100% business solved. Forcing a booked, ticketed, checked, and seated passenger off a plane should never be a police function because there is no public danger in play.

  8. Florida isn't what it used to be. After Jeb, they had a rhino of the worst kind as governor. Charlie Christ essentially ruined the good that Florida offered. Inmo This is good news and I would certainly add one of their products to the lineup.

  9. There isn't a specific exception for possession in boats like there is for vehicles in TCA. There are bills in this legislative session to allow such, perhaps that's what you've heard about recently. - OS

  10. I usually agree with you but can't say I feel the same way on this one. United screwed up and they will pay greatly for it. This entire thing could have been avoided.

  12. Did I read or hear something pertaining to being able to now carry firearms in boats in Tennessee on lakes and rivers or did I just dream it. I have always done it but I think I heard or or read where it was not legal to do so. Can anyone verify that for me? Thanks Bersaguy

  17. Good catch Dave, I didn't take time to look for amendments, my bad. specific wording is: "(1) It is an exception to the application of subsection (a) that a person is carrying or possessing a firearm, loaded firearm, or firearm ammunition in a motor vehicle or boat if the person: (A) Is not prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm by 18 U.S.C. § 922(g) or purchasing a firearm by § 39-17-1316; and (B) Is in lawful possession of the motor vehicle or boat. (2) (A) As used in this subsection (e): (i) "Boat" means any watercraft, other than a seaplane on the water, designed and used primarily for navigation or transportation on the water; (ii) "Motor vehicle" has the same meaning as defined in § 55-1-103. (B) This subsection (e) shall not apply to a motor vehicle or boat that is: (i) Owned or leased by a governmental or private entity that has adopted a written policy prohibiting firearms, loaded firearms, or firearm ammunition not required for employment within the motor vehicle or boat; and (ii) Provided by such entity to an employee for use during the course of employment." - OS

  21. Thanks OS. I think I did hear it on the news one night that a law had been passed allowing firearms carried while in a boat but would like to confirm it even though I never put my boat in any lake without a heater on my hip. Boat ramps can be a dangerous place, especially at night. About 3 years ago there was a fisherman killed at the Mona boat ramp in Smyrna while in broad daylight as he was going up to get his truck and trailer and load his boat and his daughter was down in the boat when they killed him. They said several vehicles had been broken into and the police think he may have stumbled up on the thieves while they were stealing stuff. Bad guys have never been caught to this day. I do a lot of night fishing on area lakes and never alone and I do make sure I light up the entire parking area with my boat headlamps before I drop my partner at the dock to get the tow vehicle. That person is also armed and I sit right by the dock till he has the trailer backed in for loading.

  22. One of the driving reasons for me to move is to be able to shoot on my own land. I've always wanted to be able to go out my back door and plop down with my rifle and shoot all I want. Also, Davidson County land prices are crap.

  24. This. They should have stuck the employees in a rental car and had them drive to Louisville. Or put them on a small charter plane. Anything besides kicking off four paying passengers and making a scene in the process.

  27. A lot more than offering someone on the plane a different flight plus 1000 dollars or 1500 or whatever it would have taken to get someone else to voluntarily take another flight. Its not really about what it costs United. Its what its going to cost United's investors. And after the hit they have already taken, I'm sure the board is sick of hearing about it. I imagine something will change.

  28. This is a good example of how one employee can impact a company’s reputation. From the accounts I have heard two Chicago Department of Aviation security officers were trying to deal with the man when a third came on and got violent with the guy. Hindsight is 20/20 and armchair quarterbacking is what we do. I think explaining to the guy that he was getting off the plane or he was going to be arrested would have worked. If not, explain to the other people the plane can’t leave until this guy gets off the plane. Let them drag his azz off the plane. Chicago PD is taking heat and they weren’t even there. This is going to cost United Airlines and the City of Chicago a bunch because of one hothead. I wonder how the cost of this will compare with the cost of training security to handle this type situation.

  29. We have a little over 5 acres that we keep about 2 mowed all the time, 2 on a slope that we mow a few times a year, and one that God takes care of. We have a zero-turn mower and it works generally well. I cuss every time I have to mow the sloped field. The front wheels are free turning, and not used for steering in any way, shape or form. All of the steering is done by positively accelerating the left or right rear wheels. When you get going down the hill, and get close to the bottom, if you have any speed at all, you won't be able to make the turn. I have run my mower into the fence at the bottom of the hill so many times because I couldn't stop or turn quick enough. For that reason alone I wish I had a tractor style mower. I keep talking about buying a small, one-family tractor with a mower and tiller attachment. The previous owners had one. For now, the zero-turn does mostly what I need, as long as I know it's limitations. We also bought one of those small lawn carts to pull behind it. It is so nice to use that to haul dropped sticks & branches, or potting soil, or whatever. The other thing that has been incredibly useful (and fun) is a used ATV. The very back of the property, down the long, steep hill, is the shooting range / camp ground. Using the ATV to haul gear and butts up and down that hill has been a life-saver. Although the mower and cart combination worked well for carrying gear too, just not people.

  31. If its only 2 to 3 acres I'd walk the fields and see how smooth they were as well as how much work it'd be to clear up any ruts. But if the ground was right I'd go with a big commercial Z-Turn. I'd be tempted to have someone work it over with a good garden tiller behind a tractor and reseed it if necessary too.

  32. Finally acquired a WWII Springfreld M1 Garand. Serial number says it's from May 1942 that was rebuilt in 1947. She's greased up and ready to go to the range. I want to get some accessories for it, like a cleaning kit, bayonet, ammo pouch, but I'm trying to not spend more money right now! Hope you enjoy h

  33. For the most part looks correct. Finish may be original. Colts were serial numbered to slide from about 1938 To early 1943 ,not WWI era. Grips seem to be original. Mag should be unmarked two tone. To give a price on these they have to be stripped all the way down. A couple things that may make them near worthless is any alteration that can not be corrected, cracked frame/slide. Oversize bushing put in one of the grip holes from original being stripped and two dozen other things. Barrel should be correct and not much of a problem if dark, pitted or shot out as this was al corrosive ammo back then. You are in luck TN Military Collectors is in Cool Springs at The Marriott this Fri& Sat. Five bucks to get in,ask for Scott Gahimer ? Gehimer/ Table he love to take them down and tell you all about them. I am pretty sure all 1911 WWI slides had front sight milled into them unlike WWII which were replaceable. If Scott is not there several other experts will be. Cool Gun Site.com will have photos of correct bbl,and small parts. Ballpark $ If Boogerd $300 if mostly correct with no alterations $1200 All correct $1600-$1900 Get it looked at.Good Luck Yours was made in 1918 on the last big run when most of them were made so it is most common gun.

  35. We looked at some other land yesterday, and it turned out to be a 1.25 hour drive during rush hour. The land that I'm back to considering is a 50 minute drive during normal rush hour traffic. It's 5.6 acres with a creek and a wooded hillside on the back making about 2-3 acres unusable - other than for a good backstop for shooting my pistols. Where the house would be is an old hay field that is gently sloped from the street to the creek. The nice thing is that I've already confirmed that it has cable service for ISP, so working from home will be no problem for me. Gardens, I don't know about. My wife is more gimpy than I am so I doubt we'd have that - although she wants some fruit trees on the land. So given the size and description would you recommend a Z-turn or a tractor?

  40. AFAIK, the only real question regarding "showing" your firearm to anyone in this state is whether it rises to one of the standards of assault and/or aggravated assault. 39-13-101. Assault. .. Intentionally or knowingly causes another to reasonably fear imminent bodily injury 39-13-102. Aggravated assault. ...Intentionally or knowingly commits an assault as defined in § 39-13-101, and the assault: ... Involved the use or display of a deadly weapon - OS

  41. Depends on the manner in which you expose your weapon, it may be seen as brandishing by some and an overzealous LEO may agree if called. Personally, I would not show my weapon until I was ready to pull the trigger.
