  1. Well it took a few years (started looking into it when I still lived in NY!), but Saturday my package of bee's arrived, and they're starting to settle in. It's my first hive. Daughter did the artwork. - K

  4. Gallatin Gun IDPA will start hosting indoor IDPA matches at Sumner Gun & Supply April 12. We will hold the indoor matches the 2nd and 4th Wednesday nights. Set up starts a 5:00PM with first shots at 6:00PM. We should finish around 9:00PM. I will host these matches until Gallatin Gun Club has a new range built. In the mean time I will train SO's and anybody that wants to part of the Sumner Gun IDPA group to run it's own matches after I resume duties at the new outdoor range. This may take a while, so in the present we will have indoor matches. The first match will have 4 stages, around 70 rounds. Their is a learning curve here as I learn what I can do within the confines of an indoor range. I have limited the first match to 24 guns. I may allow more as we progress. I have opened a entry form on Practiscore; https://practiscore.com/gallatin-gun-idpa-indoor-match/register Match fee is $20. Discount is available to members of the Sumner Gun Range. Payment is to be may at the sales counter of the Gun Store. I have also bought tablets for scoring that will be posted onto Practiscore. Their is a learning cure here also. Robert

  7. I would lean toward the heavier 180 gr rounds myself for the extra energy but there is a noticeable difference between those and the 165 gr rounds perceived recoil-wise. I find the 180's far more "snappy". I would recommend getting a few foxes of each weight and see what he's comfortable with. Either will suffice.

This class is the perfect way to get started or would serve as a great tune up for more experienced shooters ! the round count is not super high as this is not just a "learn how to shoot " or a mindless ammo burning class. instead you will learn how to avoid being a victim and how to efficiently and effectively win the fight if you have to fight. 9. In a short action bolt gun the 6.5/284 would work well in a 24inch barrel. The 260 would allow 5 in the mag and would be the way for high volume shooting because the brass is easy to produce from .308. If you are set on a 6.5x55 look for a commercial Husky in a 1900 action. They are really slick

  10. Just so you know that's a Picatinny Rail base....(hint...hint...) for no more then one of them cost I'd pull out my drill and taps. Worst case you end up having to shim it or glue it to a thicker piece of metal for structural rigidity and strength.

  12. I bought a 4 wheeler there. It was over 25% cheaper than anyone local. Well worth the drive. I got there before they opened, and there was a line of folks almost 1/4 mile long waiting to get in.

  13. I pocket everyday, a Bauer 25ACP. It workes well for me, yes it is a small caliber. However I can "palm" the pistol and it is not seen till I want it to show. It is not a "man stopper" but a "get off me" pistol.

  14. Glad you found a closer dealer to purchase your product. In this area a lot of people buy from Abernathy's in Union City, TN but that isn't close to you. I was there a couple of times last year with my brother to get his Polaris UTV serviced. Lots of sales for small community.

  15. Took a while to finish, but I think it's finally 'done'. 700-800 rds through it so far (probably, maybe more ), 6-inch groups at 200 yds w/ Wolf .223 factory rounds. 3" groups at 100 yds. Anderson Manuf. Lower w/ Houge grip, Anderson 5.56 upper w/ 24" Stainless Bull Barrel 1:8 twist. Nikon P-308 scope, Reflex site, and CAA Group Stock w/ cheek rest. Starting to become a fan of the AR. Want to get another upper in 300 blk. out so I can use that as an excuse to buy another lower! It truly is an illness. I should be able to get government compensation somehow, shouldn't I? - K

  16. Clear cutting ground contributes to the displacement of forest animals, which contributes to global warming.. but being a conservative you probably don't care much about clean air, clean water, or the displaced squirrel population. I'm reporting you to Al Gore.

  17. If my plan to de-escalate a situation is to flash, draw or use my gun, I might not ought to be carrying a gun. If I'm filling up my car at 3am, I may want to reconsider my overall lifestyle...Am I doing dumb things at dumb times in dumb places with dumb people?

  18. You want the shorter barrel with a threaded muzzle. You will be able to shoot cheap bulk pack 22 and it will remain subsonic. With a 4.5" barrel certain brands will be supersonic and they will be about as loud as without a silencer.

  19. UPDATE apparently the lawyers in Germany took care of all the paperwork as my friend received a crate of personal items at customs. After signing a pile of papers he opened the crate and the mosin was included. I haven't seen it yet but he did say the front stock has been cut off. Cool to have a wwII rifle that you know the story.

  20. You might look around for a used Heritage revolver. No, I don't mean a .22. Although Heritage is best known for the Rough Rider .22 they also have (or, at least, had) single action, 'big bore' revolvers in .357 as well as 44-40 and .45 Colt. My understanding is that (at least before Taurus bought Heritage) the .22 revolvers (as well as the .32 H&R Magnum Rough Riders, I believe - although I think those were discontinued pre-Taurus) were made pretty much in house at Heritage while the parts for the larger bore revolvers were manufactured by Pietta in Italy and only assembled at Heritage (Heritage also briefly offered a single action .45/.410 revolver but I am not sure where it was made and I think Taurus killed it pretty quickly after they bought Heritage - probably too much competition with the Judge.) I don't know if that is still the case or if Heritage is even still offering centerfire revolvers under Taurus. Looking online, I am seeing that many places have the Heritage .357 now listed as 'no longer available' or 'currently out of stock' but they are still listed on the Heritage website. Again, I don't know what the deal is with single action, centerfire Heritage revolvers under Taurus. The MSRP on the Heritage website is $467. For comparison, I paid a little less than that for my .44 Magnum Super Blackhawk (I purchased it used) a few years ago. I would think that if you could find a used Heritage then the price should be much closer to what you want. I have never fired a Heritage or Pietta centerfire revolver, myself, but I belong to a Heritage fan site and a few of the guys there have Heritage centerfire revolvers and seem to like them pretty well. http://heritagemfg.com/product_detail.cfm?prod_id=44

  23. The 6.5 swed is a fine choice for a nice comfortable, accurate cartridge. In its day, it had numerous long range grouping records in Europe. The Howa is a fine action and I'm sure it will be a great gun for what you want. Last fall I was at Sarco in PA and they had a row of about 20 or 30 96 Swedish Mausers on the back wall. Even a few of their big bucks match target Mausers. I don't remember what they were going for but it wasn't the pricing of yester year for sure. About 10 years ago I built a 6.5 Swed for an old customer of mine who became a good friend. We tossed the build around a bit and this is what it ended up as. Styled after a Mannlicher Schoenhower , I used a Mexican 98 Mauser short action with a Military Swed replacement barrel That I removed the steps off of. M70 style swing safety and reformed hot forged handle into a pear spoon handle. This rifle would shoot 1MOA all day with the heavier factory 156g Norma bullets. The 6.5 military chambers have a very long throat. Not sure if Howa kept to the long throat or not.

  24. Having been intimately and financially involved in a number of legislative races, money and name recognition is ALL that counts, and one must have money to get the name recognition... Maggart is no longer in the House because the NRA got financially involved, and grass roots organizations walked and worked...Maggart insulted the NRA lobbyist and they came after her with bucks, and the Tea Party sent car loads of door knockers, we hit every likely Republican door we could. The NRA will NOT take on Harwell, she is Speaker and they will NOT loose access. It, (NRA) is crowing about every State that passes Constitutional Carry, and is already running ILA adds about it in Kentucky, urging its members there to call and write, they are not here because the governor and the speakers have already said they were against it. Sheriff's Association, Chiefs of Police, Establishment Republicans and the Chamber are the enemies of a restoration of God given firearms Rights in Tennessee, them and a fractured gun owners base.

  26. Does anyone here really believe that if we did not currently have concealed carry in Tennessee that we could get it through the current House, Senate and Governor? I do not. Sad.......

  27. Why anyone would want to open carry in this state with these type of stupid laws is beyond me. All it takes is to be open carrying at say a fast food restaurant and a 'concerned' mother with a school group calls the police on the person open carrying. To me unless you are out in the woods, you at risk for problems when other people in public can see your firearm. Open carry and concealed carry without a permit would be nice, but we've got to fix these type of legal traps so that good people don't get messed up when they are carrying. It would be nice if our NRA endorsed republican legislators and republican governor would be willing to make life a little easier for good people by removing these legal traps.
