There was an old country sheriff who always said, "It could have been worse." No matter what happened, the old sheriff always had the same answer: "It could have been worse." One day, two deputies in the Sheriff's Office answered an emergency call at a farmhouse. When they walked in, they found the nude bodies of a man and a woman in the bedroom. They had been shot to death. When they went to the living room, they found the body of a man with a gun at his side. "No doubt about it," one deputy said to the other. "This was a double murder and suicide. This guy came home and found his wife in bed with somebody else and shot them both. Then he shot himself." "You're right," the other deputy replied. "Double murder and suicide. But I'll bet you when the sheriff gets here he's going to say 'it could have been worse." "No way. How could it be worse? There are three people in the house, and all of them have been shot to death. It couldn't be worse. You're on." About that time, the old sheriff arrived at the scene. He walked into the bedroom and saw the two nude bodies. He then walked into the living room and saw the man on the floor with the gun by his side. "No doubt about it," the sheriff said, shaking his head. "It was a double murder and suicide. This guy came home and found his wife in bed with somebody else and shot them both. Then he shot himself." After hesitating for a moment, the old sheriff looked his deputies squarely in the eyes. "But, you know," he said, "it could have been worse." The deputy who had lost the bet jumped up and shouted, "Sheriff, how could it have been worse? There are three people in this farmhouse, and all three of them are dead. It couldn't have been worse?!?" "Yes it could," the sheriff retorted. "You see that guy there on the floor? If he had come home yesterday, that would be me in there in that bed!"3 points

Snopes says its a true story . . . . ----------------------------------------------------- Linda Burnett, 23, a resident of San Diego, was visiting her in-laws and while there went to a nearby supermarket to pick up some groceries. Later, her husband noticed her sitting in her car in the driveway with the windows rolled up, her eyes closed and with both hands behind the back of her head. He became concerned and walked over to the car. He noticed that Linda's eyes were now open and she looked very strange. He asked her if she was okay, and Linda replied that she had been shot in the back of the head and had been holding her brains in for over an hour. The husband called the paramedics, who broke into the car because the doors were locked and Linda refused to remove her hands from her head. When they finally got in, they found that Linda had a wad of bread dough on the back of her head. A Pillsbury biscuit canister had exploded from the heat, making a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot, and the wad of dough hit her in the back of her head. When she reached back to find out what it was, she felt the dough and thought it was her brains. She initially passed out, but quickly recovered. Linda is a blonde, a Democrat, and an Obama supporter, but that could all be a coincidence. The defective biscuit canister was analyzed and the expiration date was from 2008, so it was determined to be Bush's fault.3 points

I have a S&W model 53 in .22 Remington Jet....basically a centerfire .22 I inherited this from my Dad along with 4 boxes of ammo, 6 SS inserts for .22lr and the apparently very rare .22LR cyclinder that came with it. The box had a cut out for the cyclinder but I understand Smith used the same box to sell the ones without the cyclinder....just didn't punch out the hole.3 points

I just had to post up a pic of my new holster for my 29-2. My friend owns a holster company out of Mt. J and does a ton of LE stuff for the locals and a few not so local because of his reputation of high quality. Any ways I will let the pic speak for it all. But I can tell you that as a middle aged male with a gut this holster is very very snug to my body and for being a 4" N frame it is hardly noticeable!2 points

There are a couple of YouTube videos of the 50 Thunder being fired and they are a little snappy to say the least. I've never fired any of Big magnum pistol calibers like the Casulls, S&W 460 or the 500 but I do have a T/C in the 45-70 Govt. that will get your attention with a 405 grain projectile. Not a great photo but these are mine. The one on the bottom is my .35 Remington deer hunting pistol, it's relatively tame compared to the 45-70 Govt.2 points

The Old Man and the Marine . . . . One sunny day in 2017, an old man approached the White House from across Pennsylvania Avenue, where he'd been sitting on a park bench. He spoke to the Marine standing guard and said, “I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton.” The Marine replied, “Sir, Mrs. Clinton is not President and doesn't reside here.” The old man said, “Okay,” and walked away. The following day, the same man approached the White House and said to the same Marine, “I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton”. The Marine again told the man, “Sir, as I said yesterday, Mrs. Clinton is not President and doesn't reside here.” The man thanked him and again walked away. The third day, the same man approached the White House and spoke to the very same Marine, saying “I would like to go in and meet with President Hillary Clinton.” The Marine, understandably agitated at this point, looked at the man and said, “Sir, this is the third day in a row you have been here asking to speak to Mrs. Clinton. I've told you already several times that Mrs. Clinton is not the President and doesn't reside here. Don't you understand?” The old man answered, “Oh, I understand you fine. I just love hearing your answer!” The Marine snapped to attention, saluted and said, “Yes, Sir, see you again tomorrow."2 points

I tend to not sell guns but I did have remorse for one. My first shotgun was a Mossberg .410 lever action. A misunderstanding of ownership and my Father sold it. Almost 40 years later I decided to try and get it back since I knew who he sold it to. I hadn't tried before because I was told the fellow never sold a gun and figured he would not sell it to me. My Mother still lives in the same town and knew him and contacted him. He said he had sold it to a big collector in Cleveland. He remembered who he sold it to and tried to contact the collector. The fellow had died but his wife was in the process of selling his guns and she still had it. My Mother was informed and she told him to buy it for her and arrange to have it picked up. On my next visit we were only home a few minutes and she disappeared into her bedroom and came out with it. She would never tell me how much she paid for it, she just handed it to me. So it took awhile but my gun remorse went away. If I had waited much longer it would have been gone forever, sold to someone else and the original fellow that bought it from my Dad is in his 80s and had a stroke the next year and has never completely recovered so would not have been able to make the connection to where it went.2 points

Uh on - a new heavy rifle followed me home today. Now I just have to decide if I can get up to speed with it in a week, or if I should just bring my good old faithful. Hmmm....1 point

China Travel Service . . . . . At a travel agency in Shanghai, I asked the pretty young Chinese girl behind the counter if she could escort me on a city tour and I asked her for her cell phone number so I could call her to make arrangements. She gave me a big smile, nodded her head and said, "Sex sex sex, wan free sex for tonight?" I replied, "Wow, you Chinese women are really hospitable!” A guy standing next to me overheard, tapped me on the shoulder and said, "What she really said was: 6-6-6-1-3-6-4-2-9."1 point

The flight was coming into Dallas when a combination of mechanical errors and unstable weather caused the plane to start plummeting to the ground! The pilot feverishly worked his controls, and finally, the engines roared back to life in time to prevent the plane from going splat on the ground! As the plane landed, airport officials rushed to the disembarking gate and were stunned to see 200 midgets shakily get off the plane. Finally, the crew got off the plane and the local manager of the airline came up to congratulate him on his perseverance under extreme odds. As the official and the pilot were talking, the official commented how unusual it was that there were so many midgets on the flight. "Those weren't midgets," the pilot replied. Those were Texans with all the **** scared out of them!"1 point

OK, I was not aware of what "any other weapon" meant to the shooting public until now. I truly understand the "I wont be here long" feeling. I retired out of NY Corrections in 2013 from Ellenville area south of you. I do miss the Allentown/Harrisburg gunshows. None of the TN shows can hold a candle to them on shear size and parts guns. Your 1000 table show at the fairgrounds used to be a favorite to until SAFE (send another family elsewhere) A hit. The America I grew up in still exists here TN. Good Luck with your move.1 point

Yours looks like the newer version of mine. All I did was buy the little jar attachment and hose kit. I open the lid and stick the hose down into the suction port on the right and run it for about 30 seconds and turn it off. If I'm using the 1/2 gallon jars I run it a bit longer. I don't know the exact level of vacuum in there but the sticks well and I've had stuff stored for 5 or 6 years now and it is still in good shape. I don't think I got the foodsaver brand but here is a link to that one on Amazon: Wide mouth and standard mouth combo kit. You can buy just one or the other if you want to try it for less. And... yes Mr Peej. I have all sorts of fun and interesting things vacuum packed1 point

The AOW does have something going for it. State line travel without a 5320, same as supressors as local law allows. Also, they aren't anywhere near as bad to shoot as the short barrel doesn't allow the pressure to build up. mossberg just started offering factory AOW's on 500 actions. I'm considering one, $5 stamp...pffft, easy except for the wait.1 point

60 to 90 yards works for me. Matt's 200 yard idea....., heck that is indirect fire using slugs. We would need a forward observer to adjust our rounds!1 point

I like that answer. I don't really know until I set up but I would guess between 60 and 90 yards1 point

Okay I will play along but I'm going to get really unusual and obscure. Who can tell me what this is without using their Google Fu? I will tell you that I inherited it from an uncle that immigrated from Germany and was in WWII, on the American team. One other note, the photo is one I grabbed off the web because I don't have a good quality picture to post here but this one appears be the exact same as the one I have.1 point

Same incident, just now officially bringing charges. My parents have a place in Punta Gorda. It was definitely negligent, but I am confident it was not something intentional by someone with nefarious reasons. I suspect the guy "thought" he changed the ammo out, but actually didn't. It's a tragedy all around. It's a very nice town with great people.1 point

I agree 100% with the chronograph suggestion. I have and use a ProChrono and find it invaluable. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/852429/competition-electronics-prochrono-digital-chronograph Those are 3 of my favorite powders for 9mm and .38 spl. As we cast and PC, we had to learn to adapt OAL and bullet weight and extrapolate from the listed data to come up with safe and accurate loads. I've also found e-mailing the various powder manufactures has been extremely helpful during our load developments. I've been able to get data that simply isn't, for whatever reason, published, but served as a great starting point. But Chrono use has allowed us to safely develop some great loads. We had some loads in the past that exhibited key-holing. We had to tweak the velocity based on the OAL for our particular slugged barrels. This was with Green Dot powder and 130 gr .38 cal bullets resized for our barrels...worked great, even though we are no longer casting those particular bullets, it's great data to have on hand.1 point

Two married buddies are out drinking one night when one turns to the other and says, "You know, I don't know what else to do. Whenever I go home after we've been out drinking, I turn the headlights off before I get to the driveway. I shut off the engine and coast into the garage. I take my shoes off before I go into the house, I sneak up the stairs, I get undressed in the bathroom. I ease into bed and my wife STILL wakes up and yells at me for staying out so late!" His buddy looks at him and says, "Well, you're obviously taking the wrong approach. I screech into the driveway, slam the door, storm up the steps, throw my shoes into the closet, jump into bed, slap her on the butt and say, 'You as horny as I am?' . . . And, she always acts like she's sound asleep!"1 point

The Little White Dot . . . . A kindergarten class had a homework assignment to find out something "exciting" and relate it to the class the next day. When the time came to present what they'd found, the first little boy the teacher called on walked up to the front of the class and with a piece of chalk, made a small white dot on the blackboard and then sat back down. Puzzled, the teacher asked him what it was. "It's a period," he replied. "I can see that," said the teacher, "but what is so 'exciting' about a period?" "Darned if I know," he said, "but this morning my sister was missing one. Mommy fainted, Daddy had a heart attack, and the boy next door joined the Navy."1 point

I can't remember the number of times I've walked into Gander Mountain with money to spend only to walk out in frustration trying to get someone to get something out of the case. There aren't many places I choose not to spend money - but Gander Mountain is on that list. That frustration is probably documented in some old thread. I'm surprised they've lasted this long. But, I expect they won't be the last casualty as the market turns.1 point
