  2. Here is the beginning of mine. It is a home built Caterham. The passenger tub will be skinned in aluminum and I am debating on either leaving the rest completely open for everyone to see or skinning it. I am seriously considering skinning it in canvas, like a WWI plane, then use resin to add some rigidity. I was hoping to have it on wheels today but not sure I can get that far ahead. The frame weighs ~120 pounds and it should weigh less than 1,300 pounds with me in it. And with ~300RWHP from a 2.3 turbo it should do 0-60 in under 3 seconds and the quarter in under 10 but this isn't being built for straight line blasts but for going around corners. It will spend a lot of time on the Dragon when complete. It will have a warmed over 2.3 turbo from a 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe. I will probably end up building my own intake at some point. I plan on building the fuel tank unless I can find an off the shelf one that will fit. It will have a full race built C4 auto with Kevlar bands and clutches. The rear came out of a 1998 Mustang and has 2.79 gears which is about perfect, 1st will get me to ~55 mph, 2nd to ~90mph and 3rd will get me to ~135 mph. For wheels I am using some 17" Cobra wheels. I will be using PimpX as the ECU so it will be completely tunable and allow me to setup some sort of traction control, launch control as well as map how and when the turbo kicks in. Turbo cars are normally kind of peaky, that is the power comes on strong and fast, so with a digital boost controller the ECU can flatten the power band some and make it feel like a normally aspirated or supercharged car. Power steering will be an electronic unit from a Saturn Vue. I have an electronic controller to allow me to tune the steering resistance. I should be able to let the ECO tune the resistance according to speed so when I am pulling into a parking spot there will be no resistance while at speed it will offer some resistance to prevent over corrections. It is as bare bones as I can get it.

  3. I stopped by a friends pawn shop today to browse & spotted something that I apparently couldn't live without for another day. A stainless Ruger P89 in 9mm in really nice condition. I've never owned or even had the chance to shoot one, but most of what I hear from owners is positive. It certainly has a hefty feel & I like the grips. I regret selling my P95DC a few years back without ever shooting it. I'll make sure this one gets some range time.

  5. Well, if you include had, rather than have, then this is the last one. I also had a 2008 GT500 boosted to 650HP. This picture was taken on The Tail of The Dragon.

  9. The ones that are similar on the table look like early and later versions of the South African R4 - basically a Galil copy. The one the guy is holding up looks like a SIG 550. The large barrel with the muzzle brake in the foreground looks like a Barrett M82A1. Don't know what the wood stocked rifle is immediately adjacent to the Barrett. ETA: the dark brown tubs on the table to the extreme left of the photo look like typical South African ammo containers.

  10. Not positive, but think that's a galil.

  11. This old war horse 1918 Colt was the brainchild of the little know "smith" Wade Wilson. This Colt sports his signature finish, perfected over time and with a LOT of assistance by Mother Nature. When I saw this one, I had to have it. Despite it's rugged manly appearance, it shoots like hot grease on ice. I wish this one could talk . . . . According to the original seller: "Made in 1918 for use in WWI. Marked United States Property. Lots of wear and battle scars -- per the last owner, it was used in WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Lots of history here. Still pulls tight groups, and has never malfunctioned in my hands." I was able to contact the ORIGINAL seller. He said it was a bring home by his Dad from Vietnam. It has the AA arsenal stamps in it. Slide is probably older than the frame. It is stamped MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY on the right side of the slide. Looks like the thumb safety and grip safety had probably rusted in place and have been replaced, but they also look period correct - not new. They have much less pitting in them. Original seller also swears his Dad claimed that this one saw service in WWI, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Of course, I ain't got nothing in writing proving this. I am thinking THIS one spent some considerable time in the Pacific theater during WWII. And don't forget, Korea and the jungles of Vietnam of course . . . . This one does bear the "AA" Augusta Armory stamp on the left side of the frame, indicating it had been rebuilt at the arsenal at least once. I am thinking that is when the thumb and grip safeties were replaced. Internally, it is worn a bit, but still tighter than a new Colt. Slide action feels good. Firing pin and spring look new also, but the firing pin stop looks original, or old. So, whadda y'all think of this old Wade Wilson Deadpool Customs special . . . . . ?

  13. I haven't done a detailed inspection of it. I've just taken it out and shot it. I know the barrel has been replaced as well. It is more recent vintage than the frame and slide.

  16. it shoots incredibly well. it's an icatha frame colt everything else. dad shot with it competitively in military and its been praised by all the old 1911 lovers at gun gatherings all over between nashville and savannah GA - he had it "worked over" back in the 60s and it's been well cared for since. 2.6 lb trigger with all function tests passed thoroughly. I have 3 others all in 45 ranging from bone stock 1911a1 to completely fine tuned for paper punching perfection. lucky son, i am as they've been passed down to me. in addition to those, he also gave me his Smith&Wesson model 41, p38, walther ppk x 2 (left and right hand), and a myriad of shotguns. I'll take more photos of it if anyone is interested! Dad's deteriorating memory due to alzheimer's may have resulted in a frame/slide mismatch which i plan to look into when i strip them all down for a thorough cleaning and inspection tomorrow. 18. TBI has a horrible false positive rate, more than twice the NICS system... You should call your legislators and complain that we're wasting $10 on background checks and they're much more likely to deny somebody the who isn't prohibited than somebody who is... We'd be better off going to the national system which is free.

  19. Yes, they price match plus 10% of the difference. So say if they have a gun for 449 and Academy has it for 399 then you'll actually get it for 394. They've been doing price match for a couple years but they added the +10% of the difference a year or so ago. Unless that policy changed overnight...

  21. I used to run a MES 30 with mailbox and such, worked great for all kinds of stuff. I made my tube that connects the mailbox to the MES around 20 feet long using elbows and extensions, this actually helped produce a cleaner smoke and made the food MUCH better. Also if your having staying lit problems with the mailbox crack the front lid a bit, mine needed more airflow so I drilled 3 3/4 in holes in the front. The top vent should be 100% open at all times, I actually used a can to make an extension for the exhaust, this allowed heat to build going up and to pull the smoke through the smoker easier. Wife said my setup was ghetto but never turned down a meal. Now A days I picked up a COS and run Oak all day long. Something about the way wood tastes compaired to electric its a huge difference.
