  1. There were actually several manufacturers of 1911A1's during WWII: Remington Rand (a typewriter company, not Remington Arms), Colt, Ithaca, Union Switch & Signal and Singer. Various production numbers among each but Remington Rand produced the most.

  2. Just noticed this popping up at Wally's the other day. I priced the 9mm and it was under .21/round out the door. For those who don't know, this is steel cased, but standard copper brass jacketed lead bullet, unlike the Ruskie stuff. I was on foot with already good bit of weight to carry home, so didn't grab any, but will next time (these are 150 round boxes). - OS

  4. A quick Google leads me to believe this is a common problem. You can get replacements kits off ebay, probably sold by "Jimmyb" and the rest of the Starbuck's slurping, unhelpful, greedy, "sorry for your trouble", California crowd.

  7. I'll have to take another look. It was stamped 1911 A1 Remington United States property Army for sure . I was so surprised about it not being a Colt I didn't pay much attention. I will look again.

  8. Several of us are in Bellevue. Welcome to the suckiest location on Middle TN for range access. No matter which one you choose, you're looking at about an hour each way. There's Cheatham WMA range, but I'm pretty sure it's also 100 yards. The TWRA range at Stones River has 2 lanes that go to 200 yds, but you have to be an annual member to use them (IIRC), they're only open Fri-Sun, and they're usually stupid busy. Chapel Hill has Strategic Edge, but it has a long waiting list. It goes out to 1,250 yds. Gallatin Gun Club is currently searching for land to build a new range since we got kicked out of the TVA property. It was 300 yds and the new one is expected to be that long or more. No promises, but I'll be very surprised if it's not at least 300 yds.

  9. Wanted to add this bit of info. I ordered a background check directly from the TBI yesterday. They emailed me the results this morning and "The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation found no Tennessee criminal history based on the information provided." Since I've only lived in TN and haven't been anywhere else it seems unlikely the Feds would have anything different.

  11. Started reloading when I got a Limited gun for USPSA. Then got a 9mm die set and can now reload my 9mm with good ammo for about $0.12 a round; less than half the price of decent factory ammo.

  15. Well, the petition has crossed the threshold. Let's see if we get any traction towards repealing this sh*t law. For those of you that aren't all that familiar with the NFA, here's a good video Tim over at Military Arms Channel posted a few days back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. There is one other thing to consider and that is cocking the crossbow. 180lb crossbow is no problem for a young strong man to cock. For me, not so easy. So I went with a Ten Point crossbow that had a crank cocking assist. Makes cocking the crossbow very easy. The only problem is they are not cheap add ons or the bows with them built in are fairly expensive.

  17. A pass thru is desirable. More damage and easier for them to bleed out. An arrow that goes half way in and stays effectively seals the wound and it takes a lot longer for the deer to bleed out. They can cover a lot of distance with the extra time.

  19. This just means they are running out of things to get people riled up, guns are always a failsafe story for them. The media is running around flailing their arms right now because they have no clue what to do with Trump. Hell, the HuffPo has resorted to publishing satire stories on their website. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/james-schlarmann/betsy-devos-orders-immediate-flattening-of-all-school-globes_b_14639376.html By the end of Trump's term, I expect most of the liberal media to look exactly like Mad Magazine did back in the 80's.

  20. Ok....Ok....the joke was funny too. LOL. We used to say the something similar when I was into scuba diving....you don't have to outrun the shark, just the person you are diving with. That's why I always carried a knife when diving! Everybody said "you ain't gonna kill no shark with that thing." I'd reply..."who said anything about killing the shark?"

  21. Over the years I have seen a lot of folks with holes in them. Most that were still alive had been shot with .380, 9mm, .38 & .357. The one caliber that put the most bodies in the morgue was .22. Only once did it drop the recipient in place. The other times they ran, walked or stumbled varying distances before dropping or stopping. In every case but the one, the entry was not fatal but the .22 bounced around and hit something vital that caused their demise.
