  1. I recently picked this one up on a trade. A Beretta M9A1 Compact L Inox. Mods include full inox controls, Elite II hammer, oversized mag release, solid stainless guide rod, front sight was drilled & red fiber optic installed, Novak rear sight, X-grip adapter w/18+1 Mec-Gar mag, Elite II barrel crown, short reach trigger, & I had the barrel shortened to fit flush with the slide.

  2. Starbucks deserves props here. And, I say that as someone who has seen them hire individual veterans that I've known in transition, and ones I've been privilleged to meet through programs like Room In The Inn. There will always be mental health issues that will contribute to homelessness issues. But, if every big company had the commitment to hiring veterans that Starbucks has, we'd have a much smaller problem than we currently have. Your care for one group doesn't have to exclude another one.

  6. Ebay is getting better and better all the time from a consumers point of view, they have competitive pricing, lots of vendors there and often shipping is free if you shop for it. They're no Amazon though. Not even close when you consider the streaming that's free with prime. At the end of the day I'm tired of boycotting businesses over opinions anyway. I disagree with the chic- fila company on stuff, but I still eat the chicken.

  7. Well, apparently the "Old-Fart Early-Morning Walmart Rimfire Cartel" hasn't got the news in Murfreesboro-- I guess they still think Hillary is gonna be president and they can sell bricks of Golden Bullet and Thunderbolt for $75 apiece at gun shows... Hey, I guess they gotta have some reason to keep on living... I swear there's tire ruts in the road from Hardee's to Walmart where those geezers have made that run so many mornings--"senior coffee" in hand-- to scarf up every box of 22LR on the shelves...

  8. “We respect honest debate and the freedom of expression. Many of us served to protect that very right. Some of our brothers and sisters died protecting it,” the members of the Starbucks Armed Forces Network wrote in its message. “But to those who would suggest Starbucks is not committed to hiring veterans, we are here to say: check your facts, Starbucks is already there." Starbucks has hired 8,800 U.S. veterans and military spouses already as part of its pledge, in 2013, to hire 10,000 total by 2018, the company said. http://www.seattletimes.com/business/retail/veterans-at-starbucks-respond-to-call-for-boycott-over-hiring-refugees/?utm_source=Sailthru&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=EBB+2.3.17&utm_term=Editorial+-+Early+Bird+Brief It looks to me that more than a few "angry facebook veterans" used this as a controversy to further their own agendas, or maybe just sell some more of their own product.

  9. The catalytic Converter light can be triggered by several different sensors in the Computer system. It does not necessarily mean your converter is bad. The Oxygen Sensor in many cases is the real culprit and replacing it will in many cases turn the light off. Believe it or not, on many auto brands a Coolant Sensor that turns your cooling fans on can trip the light if they are delayed by a few seconds allowing the engine temperature to be as little as 10 degrees to high before the fans come on. A sensor on the fuel system can be reading a rich mixture when it is not rich and also trigger the same light. Normally when your Converter is really bad your car will lose power na dyou can tell by having a flow test ran by a repair center that can tell you if your converter is really bad. The auto makers make these new vehicles almost a requirement to be repaired at the dealership. Look at how VW manipulated their Diesels computers to skirt the emmissons test when they were actually emitting twice or 3 times the legal limit of emmissions and most recently Chrysler was caught doing the same thing. I made myself a promise back when I was working on vehicles that when they had crossed over a certain line on cars I would quit working on them and in 1992 I gave my employer my notice that in January 1993 I would be gone but had to leave a little early because of doctors orders. My son still works on cars in his shop to this day and it's funny when he gets a carburator vehicle in his shop that is having a carburator issue and he calls me and asks me if I can come down to the shop and help him out. Went down there about a month ago and rebuilt a Quadra-jet 4 barrel on an old Cadillac he was working on......

  10. We can second guess motivations all afternoon long. I hate it when people second guess mine, so I guess I try to give others the same courtesy. But, it still stands that if we had other businesses with a storefront on practically every corner in America making an effort to hire veterans - for whatever the reason - we'd have a much smaller problem. I'm not waving their flag because I love the company or their coffee (even though that sausage sandwich is pretty good when you're on the road), but because their actions and communications back up their trying to do the right thing: https://www.starbucks.com/careers/veterans Call Operation Stand Down here in Nashville - they're also a great organization to get involved with. They'll tell you about pointing their vets to places like Starbucks as they work on things like housing, medical needs, etc. They've got schooling benefits, too which ought to let you defer using GI Bill education benefits.

  11. Cars are built as cheap as possible now. And they aren't built to be fixed or worked on by the consumer. As long as it lasts past the warranty period is all that matters anymore. Sad but true.

  12. I haven't found that to be the case. Just drive it til they need replaced and replace them.

  14. It's designed and engineered to not require the grease fittings in order to save on manufacturing expenses. Once its worn to the point of replacement then its replaced which results in factory parts replacement and billable parts and labor to the customer. The reality is that even with grease fittings drivetrain parts still wear out.

  15. I had an '06 Xterra that had the same factory U-joints. I replaced them both around 185K miles after they started to chatter a bit. I look at u-joints as a wear item - just know that ones that can't be greased might wear a little faster. I say might, as they're supposed to be sealed. But the needle bearings in mine were rusty as all get out when I pulled them. If it really bothers you, new heavy duty u-joints with grease fittings are maybe $12.

  19. The 30" is nice, but a taller unit would be better IMHO, deer sausage hangs a bit low in it. You can make a workaround, or just lay the sausage on the grills, but they smoke a bit unevenly that way. For regular things it would be great as is, but the MES lends itself to many mods, some of which I've done, others are going to be this spring. Not my pics, but you get the idea. To control airflow/smoke, works great. MES Mailbox Mod! for use with AMNPS. Not done yet, can't get the AMNPS working yet. To hang sausage a bit higher, raises it almost perfectly for summer sausage.

  20. Why don't they stick to what works for them. Sell guns that were common place 100+ years ago. I would LOVE to see a nice falling block made with modern manufacturing techniques and metallurgy. Imagine how handy that little gun would be if it were scaled down to just the right size for 357 Magnum.

  21. I had to quit buying bacon because of price verses what was left after cooking. I ahd tried about every brand on shelves and it all shrunk up to a 1/3 it's size per slice. Then a buddy of mine told me to not buy the pre packaged stuff but go the meat counter at krogers and have the meat man slice you some of their bacon. I did and got 1 pound and paid $3.29 for it and to my surprise it had about 20% loss per slice so now I buy my bacon from the meat department.................

  24. What they said about lack of grease fittings... "permanently lubricated" is the term. It'll out of warranty by the time the seal wears out, all the factory grease oozes out, and the joint fails, and that's all that matters. My advice is to ignore that catalytic converter diagnostic code. It's a fairly common problem and you can't really fix it without replacing the exhaust system and the engine. You'll know if the cat is plugged and needs replaced.

  25. I was a Certified Master Mechanic for 35 years before retiring and as for U-joints, I have always considered them a maintainance part and should periodically be replaced just like brake pads and other parts that moved. That is by far the best way to be sure you never have an issue. As far as U-Joints when your warranty ends it's time for u joints. Then when the milage get close to that number again look at replacing them again...............jmho

  26. Respect, meh; they are doing it for publicity otherwise they would just do it and be quiet about it. IMO they are very left leaning and only "support" veterans because it helps their bottom line. Besides, if I were running a business I would rather hire veterans who were honorably discharged because at the very least they have learned how to be on time and meet guidelines. So if you get that kind of worker and can get some public props for doing it, well win-win. And before someone says it, I do understand that there are some vets I wouldn't trust to make my coffee, but there are fewer of them than there are school aged ones in the same boat.

  27. Maybe. What is says to me is that Starbucks is committed to helping those that they feel need it. There is no doubt that most refugees entering the US are going to need help. I'd much rather see a refugee working at Starbucks than sitting at home collecting a check from the taxpayers.

  28. I have a good friend that doesn't hunt but his nephew does. He asked me if I keep the heart and liver when I kill a deer. I told him no I'd never done that. He said that the heart was absolutely delicious and the liver too if you like liver (which I do). I didn't kill another deer after talking to him, but I do plan on doing that next time I get one. If you think about it, the heart is a muscle so it makes sense to eat the heart. I've never looked for beef heart though. I may just give that a try if I can find one.

  30. Well, you could get a silicon bullet mold, pour bourbon into the molds and then freeze it. That would sort of be turning bourbon into bullets that would turn into bourbon. Might be a little hard to collect for consumption, though.

  31. If the price of meat keeps going up I will be forced to either hunt my own again or become a vegeitaritian. Iabout the only time I buy meat these days is if I catch it in a mark down butcher sale at Krogers and then have to take what is offered between Pork or Beef or do without. The only up side is I do have almost 3 deer in the freezer thanks to my son and grandsons. Made some deer chili the other night................

  34. No, state law does not say you can't be fired for doing so. It says that the fired employee may seek damages against the employer. The employer can fire the employee, but needs to be prepared to defend itself or pay up, or more likely, give any other reason or no reason at all to fire the employee. That's when contracts come into play because some do require cause for termination. The employer just has to gin up some other cause and they're home free unless the terminated employee can prove otherwise. That's usually an expensive task and probably why we have no case law that any of us know about.

  36. That's preposterous. By default, federal and state laws legislate adult behavior, either by proscription or prescription, unless specifically worded to affect juveniles. If 39-17-1307 were only for 21 year old adults instead of 18 year old adults, it would have to specify such. And certainly, there's nothing in US 18 922 that you mention that is the least bit relevant to TCA 39-17-1307. And ATF has nothing to do with it. And any LEO who claims that is an idiot also, and could well get his department in real dutch for any arrests he might make on that basis. And frankly, I find it preposterous that any actual state attorney of any echelon would claim that either, but who knows. IMNSHO, you seem to just be making a lot out of some state factotum's doofus glitch on a slide show regarding 21 year olds and handguns. At any rate, rather than sing a sour song in your classes, get your state rep or senator to get an opinion from the AG and I'm sure he'll say it applies to any any adult in this state, resident or not. - OS

  38. The 320 carry is actually a bit larger than the compact (grip length, carry holds more rounds), which isn't an intuitive naming convention. And both are of course larger than the subcompact. If you're going to compare to the Shield, a more apples to apples comparison is the 320 subcompact -- essentially same dimensions cept for thicker grip for double stack mag, 12 rounds instead of the Shield's 7. - OS

  41. I just looked it up and I was wrong about TFA giving my info, so my bad on that. It was through their emails, but it was asking for people to attend a legislative rally to fight Insure Tennessee back when it was being debated two years ago. They framed it as "harm to your constitutional rights and protections" and that they were "locking arms" with other organizations to fight against the Medicaid expansion. So, not as bad as I mistakenly posted, but still, it irked me. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk just to give Oh Shoot something to be grumpy about.

  44. It dries out faster if you pour it out into a baking pan. Plus you can easily see when all of the desiccant is dried out (assuming yours changes color). Then use a funnel to pour it back in the canisters. I use an old baking pan that's only used for this. I wouldn't use one for food after this.

  45. Basic instructions. You might check the temps and stuff to be sure. "Proper function can be restored by placing the metal can desiccant in an oven for two (2) hours or more at a temperature of 225°- 325°F max (105°-163°C max)..... Repeat as necessary. The metal canister will be hot when it is removed from the oven, so caution should be used to avoid burns." Got those instructions from here: http://dryandstore.com/pdf/CAN_inst_single.pdf
