Cranking an engine is about as hard on it as anything it goes through. Perhaps we could make stealing a car illegal.

I have invested $400.00 once on a handgun and $650.00 on a long gun which I still have both. Any of my others I have were worth more than I gave for them either by getting a good deal or trading around. My income limits my purchases so have not bought anything in quite a while but I have all I think I need to protect my self and my castle............JMHO

I have never understood this. I know about cold weather climates and diesel engines so ignore that. I mean leaving your car or truck running when going into a gas station or place to eat or shop or whatever . I may not have a valuable vehicle but it's mine and I will turn it off to keep people from stealing it and to keep it from being damaged by a possible cooling system failure. People laugh , but at work I witnessed a person leaving their work vehicle running. The engine's cooling system failed and the engine overheated and parts cracks and broke. I never got the whole engine diagnosis but this will crack the whole block. And on the other side , leaving your engine running will promote theft. It takes a few seconds to bust a window and take off with a vehicle. This week alone , I have saw over 20 vehicles that I could have stolen. I guess people don't care. I work hard for my money and though I may not have much , I value what little I have .

It was a great game. I didn't care either way - I cheer for SEC teams in bowls, but as an UT fan I wanted to see Bama get beat. The game could have went either way, several big plays, mistakes, and missed calls on both sides. That game was exactly what a National Championship game should have been like.

Mr. Groover handled that pretty damn good. Seems like a decent fellow to boot based on this local news interview about the incident.

Hey everyone, I'm a collector like many of you in this particular sub forum and I'm still fairly new to living in TN. Been here in Chatt for 6 months. These past few years have found me collecting all sorts of firearms so I have a pretty eclectic collection. Can anyone point me in the direction of shops that have old military rifles for sale that's within an hour or so drive of Chattanooga? I love learning about old rifles and actually seeing them in person. In particular I like WW1-Vietnam era rifles. I have a pretty modest collection because I can't just buy Mil-Surps, pistols, Bullpups, AK's or other tactical style rifles. Essentially if I see it, it's a good deal and I can afford it without my wife getting irritated about it, I'll buy it and tuck it away. I went to a gun show here in Chattanooga right after the election ended and to put it lightly, I was disappointed. Nothing much there. There's a whole lot more at the shows where I'm from in Birmingham. Or at least there has been previously. Haven't been to one in well over a year. Thanks for all the help guys. I've enjoyed reading through old posts and looking at pictures and adding to my gotta have list of guns to buy. Without a doubt I've been bitten by the bug.

LOL, yeah she works with chemicals every day that can level a 4 story building and has a temper that makes me think she has to have some Spanish blood in her. Early on in our marriage I had more things thrown at my head that I can recount. Reason and discussion goes out the window when that point comes and I like all my parts attached. So sometimes it is easier to just be the wagged one and go on. She puts up with me and I put up with her. Only one besides my Mom that could ever put up with me. Any man that says that he never cringes when his wife turns on that "you done it now" voice is a d@mn liar or about to be divorced. lol

Please forgive my bluntness, it makes for fewer sentences. LOL. Changing to your dominant eye alone will not make you a better shooter. Good training and proper practice will make you better. Now changing to your dominant eye in conjunction with the training and practice will yield the greatest improvement. Cross eye dominance is not preferred but we have little choice in it. It's a non-issue for pistol shooting. Just move your head and use your dominant eye. Now, if you want to be the best you can be with a rifle, shotgun, or bow, use your dominant eye.

If I spent that on a gun...my wife would use it to kill me.... I sleep too deep to chance pissing the lady of the house off. lol

I use to shoot sporting clays a lot, and decided I needed a really good over and under. I bought a Browning Citori 525 at BassPro. Used a coupon, opened a Basspro CC with 6 mos no interest. It was well north of $2400 before tax (maybe like $2700 or something). I had buyers remorse almost immediately, and for many weeks thereafter. That was over 10+ years ago. Looking back, a great decision on my behalf. That gun has over 10K rounds through it now, its as tight today as then. It really is a great and beautiful gun. In the sporting clay world, many many people shoot expensive guns. $2000 guns are on the low to low medium end. Many $5000 guns out there.

I love the auto start feature on my truck. There are safety mechanisms in place to prevent theft but am not sure how easy they are to defeat. In my F150 to use remote start you have to use the fob to lock the truck then start it. You can not put the truck into gear without it registering the fob. So if someone breaks the window and hops in, they can't move the vehicle. Hopefully that system is not easy to defeat because I use the remote start every cold morning.

This is great, wish they would play the liveleak vid on the local news. That shop owner did everyone in that community a huge favor....he shouldn't have to buy his own beer for quite some time.

I am fortunate to have enough property that I can walk out my back door and shoot anything from an air rifle to a .50 bmg just about any time of day I want. My second option is a 15 minute drive to a private range used by a very small group of people complete with steel targets. A regular shooting buddy and I felt the need to turn perfectly good ammunition into noise and hot smoking empty brass but the cold temperature for the last few days has been quite the deterent. If we were half or even a quarter of our current age we probably would not have given the cold weather a thought. So we decided to use option three today. Royal Range is about a 30 minute or less drive from where we live. Both of us have been there several times just to window shop or on an occasion walk out with an arm load of big boy toys or accoutrements. Neither of us had ever used their indoor range but we changed that today. We both had a great experience and really enjoyed their great facilities. I shot about 300 plus rounds of various calibers and as we were walking to our car I said that was awesome and I can still feel with my fingers and my ears and feet are not freezing. If the weather isn't suitable or there is not enough natural light left in the day to shoot outside and Royal Range is open, I will be going back. Royal Range

This is probably the only topic I will ever say this to you on Dolomite, but I respectfully disagree. (with the caveat that the information you provided was probably accurate up until about 5-6 years ago) Not including the few units at the top of the food chain, the majority of our troops currently deployed to hostile theatres, to include infantry troops, are not even allowed to carry loaded firearms when not specifically performing a mission and under close supervision of leadership. It's a sad state but true. This is not necessarily a theatre policy, more often the decision of the Commanders at some level not trusting their own NCOs and troops not to accidentally shoot each other in the chow hall line. Combine that with the knowledge that our forces have been in advise and assist (not necessarily accompany) mode for the last couple years and it drastically cuts down the possibility of many 18-20 year old service members having much, if any, two-way trigger time. I'm not talking military as a whole, but the nugs specifically. I'm former Army, never been a LEO. Just came back from downrange in Oct.(contractor in an advisory role) and I'll say that in most cases I would rather a former LEO in good standing be exempt from the HCP process than many of the current 18-20 year old joe snuffys. The aspect that figures more into the HCP conversation for me is maturity. As far as I know all LEO start out at a minimum age of 21. While this certainly does not garuntee maturity, or grace under fire, it is apparently the universally excepted age for individuals to be deemed responsible enough to experience the wonders of handguns and hangovers. Being an 18 year old GI that might have been in a couple firefights certainly does not guarantee maturity or experience in CONUS conflict resolution. In some instances those experiences can lead to individuals using what they know works (violence) to solve the problem, when it might have been a problem they coulda/shoulda walked away from had they been mature enough to process it. Would I put a 19 year old private with a year long deployment pulling tower guard under his belt outside my house to face an immanent threat...sure if I knew there was no chance of friendlies walking into his sector of fire. Would I want a former officer that has successfully passed months of LEO training and certification to be able to skip the 8 hour class required of us civilians to carry a handgun....absolutely. Add in the fact that opening up the HCP to this relatively small demographic is already negatively effecting our carry reciprocity with other states and I think it's a no brainer that TN should have abstained from what appears to be nothing more than feel good policy making.

Never drink and surf gunbroker, guns international and the like. The amount you spend may be quite the surprise when you check your emails the next day. Well at least that's been my experience anyway.

I have a few very old ones that belonged to my dad. They are not very collectible to anyone else because he used them everyday to cut off a chew of tobacco, clean his fingernails, shorten a gas line on the old car or boat or even cut a tomato for his sandwich. They are priceless to me however.

And wrap you mind around this. Since then I have had a number of really close calls. One was overseas when if I had been where I was supposed to be I wouldn't be typing this. I left a post to go check on some indig guys, never did it before but that night I did for whatever reason. While I was away a rocket peppered the place I would have been. I definitely would have been hit and judging by the size of the holes and their location it would have more than likely been fatal. Step forward about a year and a half and I am on my way home from another one of my gigs. I was in a helo accident in the middle of "indian" country. Spent 4 hours waiting on SAR before I was able to get out. What should have taken 3-4 hours took well over eight to get where I needed to be. I was treated locally but they felt I would get better treatment if I was able to make it back to the US. I made it home a few days after that and haven't been the same since. Severe nerve damage as well as some other damage in my back because of the accident. If it wasn't for my wife and son I would have lost it a long time ago. I have plenty of other close calls both stateside as well as overseas. I just run with it because it is part of life and I am the one who chose to do what I do. It does seem to follow me though and has for a very long time. Now whether it is bad luck for happening or good luck for surviving I don't know. Dolomite
