I had a guy get road rage on me yesterday simply because he was mad that I merged in front of him. I signaled and waited as long as I could before simply having to move over. He then got really aggressive. I remembered this thread and simply ignored him. Life is too short to get worked up over someone's driving.4 points

I was supposed to change out a fuel pump and fuel sending unit but its snowing like crazy and I aint dipping my hands in gas at 30 degree weather. So here is some pictures of my idea of Glock perfection. My 21 , 17 , and 30 . Going to do some annual cleaning and calm my nerves LOL . That G21 is a beast and I love it. No finger grooves and just a sweet shooter. Glock at it's best. My G17 is the 2-pin early model. So simple and not at all complicated. People say they are ugly but their reliable function makes them look better than most others. Ballistol and Mobil One is in the air3 points

Hey gang... Seeing as how some of you really "love" change (haha) I thought that it might be a good idea to go ahead and start talking about some upcoming improvements and changes to TGO that will occur this month. There are some things coming down the pipe that I think the majority of you will really enjoy, and there are some things coming that may be a bit of an adjustment to some of you as well. Rather than write a really long preamble about all of this, let me just dive into the specifics. New: Image Gallery I have purchased the license to use the Invision Power Image Gallery system. Because Amazon's S3 storage is so cheap, I am finally able to offer you all the ability to host photos of your gun collections for everyone to enjoy, right here on TGO. In actuality, the Image Gallery also has the ability to host videos, but that is a feature I will have to give some thought to enabling as we move ahead. For the time being we will just allow photos. New: Articles and Reviews I have also purchased the license to use the Invision Power Pages system which allows us to host articles and reviews written by TGO Members and TGO Staff, in a nicely formatted, easily searched library of material. Basically it will allow me and the Staff to chose posts that you are already writing or have written, and promote them to either an Article or a Review depending on the content. One of things that has made TGO so successful over the years is the amount of knowledge amassed within it because of you. This just allows us to organize it a little better for everyone's benefit. Uncertain Future: Real-time Chat As I had mentioned previously, Invision Power is discontinuing their real-time Chat feature that some of you enjoy using here on TGO. I honestly don't understand why they are doing this beyond the explanation that they have offered on their support forum. Namely, that it is not a popular product within their portfolio and maintaining it draws away resources that they want to focus on other things. Bummer. I will be continuing to look for a replacement for the Chat feature. So far, the prospective replacements have not been very good or very exciting, but I have not given up. The current Chat system will expire at the end of April, 2017. New: Improved Classified Ads This is a big one and honestly is the one that I am most excited about. One of the things that has kept me from adopting a more feature rich Classified Ads approach on TGO has been the popularity of the Tapatalk mobile phone application. In a nutshell, Tapatalk doesn't show you the whole "TGO Experience" and only shows you the basic things (threads, posts, private messages) and only in the Tapatalk format. If it doesn't fit inside their carton, it doesn't get displayed on their app. Also a bummer. I have purchased a new Classifieds add-on for our forum software that not only provides you with an experience similar to Gunbroker or any other number of sites that allow easy upload of product photos, but it also creates a new thread inside the forums any time that you post an ad, so that folks using Tapatalk can participate as well. Some of the features this thing has are: Central area for you to view all of your ads, including expired ads, and manage them. People can make offers (bids) on an advertisement if you have set the ad to allow it. Ads are integrated into the IPBoard activity streams and show up as new material. Ads are searchable within IPBoard like any other content. Ads can include Google Maps if an address is provided by the person posting the ad. Ads can be added to a "Wish List" by members. Ads can contain photos, easily uploaded to the ad from within the system. Ads can be marked to allow questions and answers. We will also have a special section of Ads just for our TGO Vendors to showcase items for sale! I will be making the new Classifieds system available to you as quickly as possible. I have already begun setting it up and hope to have it ready for use within the next week or two. Uncertain Future: Mutiple "Themes" for Viewing TGO I had to save the bad news for last, I guess. Maintaining multiple "themes" for viewing TGO is a real pain and takes a lot of time. Whenever a new version of the forum software is released, I can end up spending hours to make the various themes work with the new version, and unfortunately my free time for this sort of thing is going to be extremely limited in 2017 as I focus on going back to college for another advanced degree. My free time for a lot of stuff is going to be limited because of that. I know that some of you really prefer the Dark theme and find it to be easier on your eyes, but I am honestly not sure for how much longer I can keep that available to you. If I find an easier way to provide a darker version of our main visual theme, I will gladly jump on it, but at the moment I just cannot make any promises. Hopefully those of you who prefer the darker theme will be able to just bump down the brightness on your computer or mobile devices, and stick with us. Well, that's the long and short of it all. Feel free to ask questions or discuss. I'll be glad to offer whatever additional information that I can.2 points

I have a Syma X8C. It is DJI sized but way cheaper. Get the hang of it first. I have friends that let there DJI get out of range and it just flew away. That a lot of money to loose or wreck and can't find it. The X5 by the same company is a excellent learner.2 points

Technically you don't fly a drone, it flies itself. A quadrotor on the other hand, can be fairly enjoyable to fly. I'd suggest you start out with one of the indoor only versions to get the hang of it. Dual rotor helicopters have the same controls as well. If you get an outdoor one, you have to register with the FAA, which isn't a big deal.2 points

Well done. Thank for sharing! I've done some academy training. I know it's not Military, but I can still relate. Some of our DI's were former military, so I got a little experience. The training is fun when you're in shape. I just feel bad for folks who go in after sitting on the couch for years drinking sodas, and eating pizza and ice cream all day. They're the ones puking their guts up after a little PT in the heat. lol1 point

The 300 yard range was a boilerplate overlay that was being used as we prepared to go forward with the all of the county planning meeting. With the vertical relief we had to the east, I was sure that 400 was doable with a possible 500 yard for some of the firing positions. But kept running into why things weren't fitting toward the south. Started to wonder if I had defaulted to meters instead of yards since I was having to convert the small arms surface danger zones (SDZ) figures from meters into yards ..., but that wouldn't have added up with the plot problems. 30 less acres will sort of mess with your templates!1 point

Mechanically, wheel guns are all ways more prone to velocity variance due to the nature of the beast. The most prevalent reason is the barrel cylinder gap. If you have a good set of feeler gauges, measure the gap at each cylinder mouth with the hammer at rest. Even the smallest difference will give you what you have. you should see .005 +/- .001 for a good gap. Once you find the gauge with a slight resistance, hopefully that same resistance will be found on each cylinder mouth. The loser will be your low vels. Cylinder concentricity with the barrel bore is the second item that can effect vels by a tad also aside from being the cause of flyers as most all ready know. One other area that gets overlooked is the forcing cone that makes up for non true to the bore cylinders. You would be surprised to know how many wheel guns have out of center bore cones and are within factory specs. Just the slightest out of center cone will try to force rifling into only one side of the bullet way before rifling is available on the opposite side of the cone. This to is a pressure consideration. Those 3 things are the foundation of performance center built wheel guns.1 point

Eight to eight and a half grains of Unique and anybodies hard cast bullet 250 grains and over will shoot just fine... These guys are a bit more expensive, but their bullets are great... They are good and soft, so they will upset in the barrel... Very accurate shooters ... http://rimrockbullets.net/index.php If ya really want ta have some "authentic" loads... Load these bullets with black powder, but read up on the loading procedures first... We used the rimrock bullets with the black powder loads... They are great... Big "kaboom" and plenty of billowing white smoke... Real old time stuff here... leroy Black powder is fun. But cleaning is a lot tougher.1 point

I had someone not even attending the match send me a couple mag pouches they were no longer using as a donation for the prize table yesterday. Which got me thinking - I have a whole bunch of that kind of stuff I've tried over the years that for whatever reason I'm not using any more and really isn't worth selling, so I'm going to put it on the prize table too. I'd encourage eveyone to dig through their "MOLLE drawer" and bring with them anything they'd like to donate. You can clear out your junk drawer and give newer folks a chance to try perfectly good gear without having to spend a ton. Please don't bring actual "junk", but Run N Gun related items - mag pouches, holsters, belts, harnesses, chest rigs, etc. We'll do a random draw prize table so the newer competitors will have a good chance to look through gear and get something they can really put to use. And if you have a $3,000 rifle you aren't using that you want to donate, we'll take that too of course! ;-) Thanks for your consideration!1 point

Meh. I don't think they'll screw anything up... it's the same milspec stuff that everybody and their momma has been making for decades now, and they are literally adding nothing to the mix. I surely doubt that years of thought have gone into designing this rifle, as Plinkster suggests. Maybe years of negotiating the lowest bidder for supplying the parts for the gun, but slapping 4 off-the-shelf parts on an AR that has remained largely unchanged for 50 years can't take all that long to figure out.1 point

I bought a cheap one for my daughter, like $25. We also had a cheap twin rotor helicopter. I suggest getting a self leveling version. I am not sure the exact terminology, but it has a stabilization option that actually makes it flyable. Free flight is expert only, which is the only way to use the cheap ones. And then they skitter across the floor, or smack the ceiling fan and it gets old really quick. I have been looking at grabbing a Syma X5 variant as it is cheap and has the stabilization controls. Then making the decision if it is flyable and fun of upgrading and registering with teh FAA for a large one with streaming video.1 point

Back in the day, Craftsman tools had something. Now a days, you can get lifetime guarantee hand tools from about anybody. The instability and appearance of instability has me not shopping at Sears anymore. Don't want to buy something and have them go out and then have a problem with what I bought. While I was visiting my mom in ATL over New Years weekend, I went to a Sears, at Northlake Mall, to see what they looked like since it had been a good while since I've been in a Sears. It was depressing. The whole store looked to be a ghost town with the lack of merchandise. I looked at the tools specifically and came away depressed. I'm pretty much a Home Depot guy now or off the internet if I'm needing something tool wise.1 point

Maverick 88 shotgun in 12 gauge. Identical to a Mossberg 500 except the safety is on the trigger guard, a better place, and it is only $200 new. Shotguns are pretty versatile because of the different types of ammunition that can be found EVERYWHERE. They are also easy to maintain and use. If I wanted to stand up a group of people that is what I would buy them. It is also less likely to be outlawed by any type of gun grab legislation. Shotguns are pretty low powered cartridges so you could easily load them using black powder.1 point

Absolutely. That would be a big improvement to our situation because it is not just private businesses that can put you in a pickle. You can also come across these 'posted' properties when visiting local and state government owned buildings. People can say just conceal and not worry about it but honestly what is the difference between that and how folks used to just carry without permits? You used to just hope you didn't come to the attention of the one oddball police officer that would make a big deal out of you illegally carrying. Most police did not care as long as you weren't causing trouble and then it was an add on. But as a pro gun group we should be pushing to be legal when carrying in as many places as possible and one way to do it is remove the weapons charge from the signs. We know that the legislature does not want concealed carry without a permit so at least we should try to get more for our money out of these permits. The whole "Am I legal at XYZ location" question comes up all the time so why not fix that? We just had folks question their legality in carrying at the Chattanooga Aquarium. Fix the problem and then folks don't have to worry.1 point

I don't use smart locks for exterior locks, EVER, but then I don't use locks from the local hardware store either. If concerned about security you need real locks. Other wise my home is smart as can be. My thermostats swing the temp from a standby to my preference when I'm about 10 min from the house. As I pull in the drive the exterior entry lights turn on and interior light begin to turn on in succession. The home audio plays my preferred station by time of day in the living room, kitchen, and the entryway.(typically the same podcast I've been listening to on the way home). The exterior landscape lights turn on daily from 15 min before sunset to 10:30pm. The home's core is on it's own security system that is isolated, but I've greatly extended it's range with outdoor smart sensors on the home automation as a first line of defense. The smart home monitors my shed, my screened porch, my driveway for vehicles, and my exterior garage area. Upon detecting motion if the wife and I are "away" it turns on lights in the effected area and shoots me a text message. If i'm home in "armed home" mode it ignores all the interior sensors but can flash my bedside light to indicate a car pulling in the drive or motion within 6 or so feet of my garage door. When the wife and I leave in the morning the vacuums run to clean the floor typically finishing about lunchtime. If I get home and head into the theater I can tell the echo in the theater to "turn on movie" and it dims the theater wall lights, turns off the ceiling lights, powers up the projector and changes the input on the processor to the apple TV. When I'm ready for bed I simply tell the echo in the bedroom "turn on goodnight" and it will turn off all the home's interior lights and set the security mode to "armed home". One that we have really loved is that if my wife is home in bed and I come home from the hospital late it will turn on my bedside light very dim, this both gives me light to get into bed but also lets her know that I'm the one making noise at the door, b/c if the system is armed and motion is sensed before disarm it flashes at 100% bright to wake us up. Not sure what phone OS your running but here are some of the apps/sites/hardware I've found useful. Side cutting grinders rendered pretty much any "gun safe" super easy to get into without making a tremendous amount of noise someone in a neighboring house would notice. So given that and that the linings are dry wall they're really just a glorified gun cabinet instead of a gun safe. The fire proof aspects are equally deceptive as well so any future purchases "safe wise" I make will be towards a better grade gun cabinet bolted to the floor and wall inside of a locked storage room. And the reason I selected this video is it's kids who've done a little research figuring out how to cut into the safe. The bottom line don't be fooled into spending more money for non existent protection and do some additional target hardening.1 point

Your efforts are very much appreciated David. You have the most unique site on the WWW in my opinion which is why I spend about 90% of my web-time here. Well that and the awesome people that hang out here. It's almost like sitting around a campfire swapping stories. I've learned a lot from this site and not just about firearms. I have no problems with the upgrades and changes you make and it doesn't take much time for them to become just as cozy as the last campfire session. Keep up the good work and know that it is much appreciated!!1 point

Has anybody else had this problem? Just purchased a new Sig P938, I go to shoot it and it consistently shoots to the left. I am by no means the best shot ever, but I can get a good group going. I looked at the sights, and noticed that the front sight is ever so slightly to the left of center, and the rear sight is quite a bit to the left of center. Is this normal? Something that should be sent back to Sig? Or should I just get a brass punch and do it myself?1 point

I purchased my first Egyptian rifle yesterday. It was a very unexpected purchase, my friends. My dealer called me yesterday to inform me that my Childers receiver had arrived. As luck would have it, they took in the Egyptian MAADI (Intrac) in a deal hours prior to my arrival. I inspected the rifle, we came to terms on a price, and the rest was history. In addition to the rifle, I recieved the original 5 round magazine, 30 round East German, 40 round Chinese flatback, operation manual, + final inspection certificate. I have decided to liberate this rifle from its post ban configuration. Therefore, I am in seek of a MAADI brown grip + matching MAADI lacquer wood stock. Please let me know if you have any of the aforementioned pieces for sale or have a lead. Without further ado, I present to you my Egyptian MAADI (Intrac)!1 point

I’m kinda surprised that I see many stories of how you can buy parts or skirt the law on machine guns by people that would wear out Google on any other law. I have friends that know my machining skills; they have asked if I could convert an AR15 to fully automatic. My answer is “yes”. When they ask why I don’t do it my answer is “Prison”. However, I have no desire to own a fully auto weapon; I can turn cash into empty brass fast enough without one. And I sure don’t want the expense of defending myself in court if I win, or going to prison if I lose. I can’t think of anything I need or want that I would pay the government for the privilege to own; the costs are ridiculous. I feel that someday suppressors may be legal to buy without the Feds involvement. If that happens the price will drop to where it should be.1 point
