Had to say goodbye to a great friend this afternoon after almost 14 years. Daisy was the most loyal dog I've ever known. My wife and I got her a week after we got married, and she's been everywhere and through everything with us since. She really should have been a working dog. She took absolute joy in performing the jobs you gave her. She would retrieve until you were the one who was worn out. The second picture below on the paddle board was the only way she'd let my kids swim in the lake If she wasn't out on the board right beside them, she'd jump in, grab the strap on the back of their life jackets and tow them back to shore. Man, we're going to miss this dog.5 points

Finished up my most recent build thinking it would shoot 5.56, turns out it throws flames. Joking aside I was shooting some Monarch ammo that had considerably more flash than American made ammo. This picture was also the worst out of multiple magazines. Thought it was a funny picture regardless.2 points

I am of two minds on this. On the one hand, from a political and philosophical standpoint, I agree. If a person has to sign up to possibly (however unlikely in this day and age) be drafted to go to war and kill or be killed, can vote for our political leadership and, most importantly, is considered 'mature' enough to be an adult when it comes to criminal charges then that person should also be considered to be 'mature' enough to decide he or she wants to drink a damn beer or legally carry a firearm. Now, however, for the reality. The reality is that many lawmakers obviously do not agree with the above which means that those of us who have already met the requirements - and paid the money - to obtain an HCP that was recognized by most of the states in the union have already and may continue to lose 'value' from said HCP simply so a handful of people can have the option of maybe getting a carry permit a scant three years earlier than before. Further, don't forget that (unless I completely misunderstand other, recent laws) those folks could already legally 'carry' in their vehicles without an HCP for those, few years. So, philosophical belief aside the reality is that there is much potential for loss for all TN HCP holders verses a minuscule amount of gain for what is likely an almost infinitesimal number of people. Weighed in the balance, therefore, the scale tips decidedly to the negative for this law. Further, if I really delve into the philosophical side of the issue I have to say that I do not believe there should be any connection, whatsoever, between military service and the excercise of rights. If one 18 year old can legally obtain a permit then any and all 18 year old citizens should have the option (as said 18 year old citizens are still considered adults for criminal charges, ect. - if they are legally 'adults' in one place then they should be legally 'adults' in all considerations regardless of military service or lack thereof.) Further, I have known several members of the military and can say that, when we were younger, they seemed no more likely to be 'responsible' and no less likely to be 'hot headed' than those of us who were not members of the military. Therefore, it would make a lot more sense to allow anyone 18 and older who can legally have a gun to carry in TN without a permit and limit permits to 21 and older. That would allow 18 year old residents of Tennessee - all of them - to be eligible to carry while not screwing the rest of us over with respect to reciprocity.2 points

Hey gang... Seeing as how some of you really "love" change (haha) I thought that it might be a good idea to go ahead and start talking about some upcoming improvements and changes to TGO that will occur this month. There are some things coming down the pipe that I think the majority of you will really enjoy, and there are some things coming that may be a bit of an adjustment to some of you as well. Rather than write a really long preamble about all of this, let me just dive into the specifics. New: Image Gallery I have purchased the license to use the Invision Power Image Gallery system. Because Amazon's S3 storage is so cheap, I am finally able to offer you all the ability to host photos of your gun collections for everyone to enjoy, right here on TGO. In actuality, the Image Gallery also has the ability to host videos, but that is a feature I will have to give some thought to enabling as we move ahead. For the time being we will just allow photos. New: Articles and Reviews I have also purchased the license to use the Invision Power Pages system which allows us to host articles and reviews written by TGO Members and TGO Staff, in a nicely formatted, easily searched library of material. Basically it will allow me and the Staff to chose posts that you are already writing or have written, and promote them to either an Article or a Review depending on the content. One of things that has made TGO so successful over the years is the amount of knowledge amassed within it because of you. This just allows us to organize it a little better for everyone's benefit. Uncertain Future: Real-time Chat As I had mentioned previously, Invision Power is discontinuing their real-time Chat feature that some of you enjoy using here on TGO. I honestly don't understand why they are doing this beyond the explanation that they have offered on their support forum. Namely, that it is not a popular product within their portfolio and maintaining it draws away resources that they want to focus on other things. Bummer. I will be continuing to look for a replacement for the Chat feature. So far, the prospective replacements have not been very good or very exciting, but I have not given up. The current Chat system will expire at the end of April, 2017. New: Improved Classified Ads This is a big one and honestly is the one that I am most excited about. One of the things that has kept me from adopting a more feature rich Classified Ads approach on TGO has been the popularity of the Tapatalk mobile phone application. In a nutshell, Tapatalk doesn't show you the whole "TGO Experience" and only shows you the basic things (threads, posts, private messages) and only in the Tapatalk format. If it doesn't fit inside their carton, it doesn't get displayed on their app. Also a bummer. I have purchased a new Classifieds add-on for our forum software that not only provides you with an experience similar to Gunbroker or any other number of sites that allow easy upload of product photos, but it also creates a new thread inside the forums any time that you post an ad, so that folks using Tapatalk can participate as well. Some of the features this thing has are: Central area for you to view all of your ads, including expired ads, and manage them. People can make offers (bids) on an advertisement if you have set the ad to allow it. Ads are integrated into the IPBoard activity streams and show up as new material. Ads are searchable within IPBoard like any other content. Ads can include Google Maps if an address is provided by the person posting the ad. Ads can be added to a "Wish List" by members. Ads can contain photos, easily uploaded to the ad from within the system. Ads can be marked to allow questions and answers. We will also have a special section of Ads just for our TGO Vendors to showcase items for sale! I will be making the new Classifieds system available to you as quickly as possible. I have already begun setting it up and hope to have it ready for use within the next week or two. Uncertain Future: Mutiple "Themes" for Viewing TGO I had to save the bad news for last, I guess. Maintaining multiple "themes" for viewing TGO is a real pain and takes a lot of time. Whenever a new version of the forum software is released, I can end up spending hours to make the various themes work with the new version, and unfortunately my free time for this sort of thing is going to be extremely limited in 2017 as I focus on going back to college for another advanced degree. My free time for a lot of stuff is going to be limited because of that. I know that some of you really prefer the Dark theme and find it to be easier on your eyes, but I am honestly not sure for how much longer I can keep that available to you. If I find an easier way to provide a darker version of our main visual theme, I will gladly jump on it, but at the moment I just cannot make any promises. Hopefully those of you who prefer the darker theme will be able to just bump down the brightness on your computer or mobile devices, and stick with us. Well, that's the long and short of it all. Feel free to ask questions or discuss. I'll be glad to offer whatever additional information that I can.1 point

I have compiled the information for a DOPE card with my .22lr trainer, but I've never done this before. If someone can review my process and maybe point out any areas I didn't think of I would greatly appreciate it. I gathered data in three ways. First, I shot groups at 30, 40, 50, and 60 meters to measure the actual bullet drop from my rifle. My rifle is zeroed at 30 meters. Second, I shot 10 rounds and recorded the velocities with my chronograph. Third, I plugged the numbers I had into the ballistic calculator from the Berger Bullets website. The DOPE card it spit out seems very close to my actual observed drop. I think the only things left to do is watch out for velocity fluctuations due to temperature variations and record the effect of wind. I also checked my scope for accurate tracking by doing a box test as well as just randomly twisting the turrets and then returning it to zero. I'm pleased enough with it's performance although an upgrade is in my future. Thanks for any help. http://1 point

I've got one. It shoots great. It soaks up the recoil way better than I expected. I think it is leaps and bounds better than an XDs in my opinion. The aggressive pattern is just enough without being harsh. Everyone that has shot it has been amazed. I'm not the biggest S&W semi auto fan, but the Shield line is extremely nice.1 point

I haven't gotten one yet. :/ I got distracted (M9A1) and am just gunna wait for the inevitable Performance Center version to arrive. The PC Shield 9 is so much more awesome than the already really good Shield. I know I'd just replace the regular one as soon as the PC model arrives. I'm in no hurry for one. Will probably get my first 1911 before I get a 45 Shield... I'm on a streak of steel gun buyin'.1 point

Meant to add: where it will likely be found unconstitutional by any SCOTUS regardless of makeup, unless the right to carry is incorporated to the states first. edit: and come to think of it, the right to own firearms has been incorporated, and yet states may still demand waiting periods, licensing, registration, and even ban certain types of firearms, hicap mags, etc. So if none of these states rights are prohibited, why would a state's right to honor only certain permits, or none at all, be prohibited? The only thing I could see with the right to carry incorporated is that all states permit process might be forced into "shall carry" rather than "may carry". But even then, the exact "reasonable" hoops to jump through to do so would still have to be attacked case by case. - OS1 point

J frame variants hover around $400. I have no reason to believe that a 6 round Colt wouldn't be a $500+ street price offering for the first year or so, then maybe falling a smidge to mid $400s. $300 guns are Taurus territory, and I sure hope Colt isn't trying to go there. As I see more about this gun, I'm disappointed. The J frame has the quality carry revolver market locked down, imho. Kimber tried to break in with the K6, but has anyone actually seen/shot/gotten one? I haven't, and I haven't met anyone who has yet, either. I figured they would be aiming at the Python , Cobra, and Anaconda market, where they could theoretically get over $1k/pop pretty easily, not slugging it out in the competitive concealed carry market. Now before someone starts with the "they have to protect the collector's market for the old guns" nonsense... NO THEY DON'T! When some rich bloke pays $5k to some other rich bloke for his 20 year old pistol, NONE of that goes to Colt. It's ALL secondary market. Prestige doesn't pay the bills until you attach it to a newly produced good sold to the public. Could they POTENTIALLY hurt the value of the old guns by flooding the market with poorly executed remakes? I would say that's a possibility, but not likely. Gibson has made some absolute crap guitars in recent history. That doesn't change the fact that Carter's Vintage Guitars sold the first burst for $625,000 recently. In fact, it may he argued that tye perceived lack of quality in recent Gibsons has ADDED to the value of the older models.1 point

MikeW, Thanks a ton for your very able assistance. I'll go to the P.38 forum in the future. Yes, the slide removes fine. The gun is easy to take down and clean and the bore is excellent. Took me a bit to figure some things out, but disassembly and reassembly wasn't too dramatic. The slide springs are OK and cycle nicely. The locking block is a nice tight fit but moves easily. I'll check the links and then I'll contact Luger Doc if I'm still stumped. I don't wanna spend a lot of $$$ on this gun. It's a relic, all I care is that it's functional - I have no qualms with retiring it and simply make it a display piece. Mucho thanks again, Mike S Stafford, VA1 point

Headed to a new home. It's made from 1/4" thick 1095 professionally heat treated to RC 59 and received the cryogenic treatment as well. OAL is 12" Blade is 5 5/8" Scales are bog oak from the Ukraine. This is from the seller...( This is Russian Bog Oak lifted from the bottom of a river near the city of Chernigov. This precious material is called Russian "Black wood". The Bog Oak have been soaked in many years of history. Over centuries and a mellinium, sinking Oak trunks lay upon the bottom of a surface of water. They lie there for many years without any exposure to oxygen, completely submerged. In result of the chemical processes, the sap from the wood and minerals from the water dye the wood a black color. The birthplace of Bog Oak transpires from a few extremely important components: Oak trees growing by the riverside, a certain speed of the river current, and a few definite minerals in the water. Bog Oak is an extremely rare and unique material which color speaks for itself. The light pinkish yelow color represents aging from three to four hundred years, while the black is equivalent to more than a thousand years. Like elite wines, this incomparable wood undergoes many years of preservation, enabling the wood to gain a few unique qualities. Bog Oak is incredibly stoic, and through it's longevity it obtains an unrepeated texture. For a long period of time Russian " Black wood" has been used in carpentry, jewelry, knifemaking, etc. In Rus' there are many beleifs about the healing properties that Bog Oak contains. The wood is commonly used to heal people, and was especially popular as an item that usually surronded people. This valuable wood emanates a type of living energy that people absorbed involuntarily, thus speeding up the process of healing. The age of these Bog Oak blocks has been determined by a radiocarbon analysis and it's about 5460 years. ) It has copper liners and accents along with OD Green G10. It has mechanical as well as epoxy holding the scales. It also has a lanyard hole. The sheath has carbon fiber boltaron pattern on front and black kydex on the rear.1 point

It dries out faster if you pour it out into a baking pan. Plus you can easily see when all of the desiccant is dried out (assuming yours changes color). Then use a funnel to pour it back in the canisters. I use an old baking pan that's only used for this. I wouldn't use one for food after this.1 point

Looks good so far. One thing I noticed is that it does not display correctly on mobile. There is a strip of the wood paneling down the right side. That makes the actual display portion smaller than it has been, at least for me.1 point

Name's Mark and I'm happy to join y'all. Moved to rural Middle Tennessee hills from The People's Republic of Konnecticut in July. I couldn't get out of there quick enough - put the house on the market in April, retired May 1st, became a TN resident mid July. Don't worry about me wanting to change anything - I came here because I want to live here just as it is - real America. Everything about me is at odds with libertard dominated Konnecticut , where I and my fellow law abiding, freedom loving Christian Americans are treated as criminals, criminals are treated as victims, and all are governed as subjects. The best compliment I ever received in my life, I received from a newly made friend (a native TN hillbilly) a few weeks after I moved here..."You ain't no Yankee, you belong here". Yep...we have found ourselves our home! I like all types of guns, but Military type guns are my main interest. Just like to collect 'em and shoot 'em - Informal recreationl shootin' is my thing. I also mess a bit with black powder guns and reloading black powder cartridges. Since moving here I have sold a few of my older military type "collectible" rifles and pistols to purchase modern military type (known as "assault rifles" in kommieland where subjects are not allowed to own them) now that I'm a free man again. Looking forward to enjoyin' the forum. Happy New Year! And may God continue to bless Tennessee...for surely He has!1 point

These old box lock doubles look a lot alike, I have my Fathers Savage/Fox model B in sixteen ga. If this one is like my Fox there will be some markings on the action under the barrels. Look for charts on line for Western, and Savage as they made Model B's for different company's. These can tell you when it was made. I used charts from Savage to tell mine was made in 1960. WTH. For things that need oil, not grease, I use a 50/50 mix of 30 weight synthetic and automatic transmission fluid. If I want a little more cleaning action I add 10% of injector cleaner into the mixture. For things that need grease I use the molybendum disulfide grease from Walmart. It is less than $5 and lasts forever.1 point

Neat. I can guarantee you there is no serial number on it, so there is no need to disassemble. Serial numbers were not required before 1968 and many, many old guns simply do not have them.1 point

If Colt actually is going to start producing DA revolvers again it's probably because they want to cash in based on the ridiculous prices their old snake guns now command. I loaded 100 45 Colt rounds with lead semi wadcutters of unknown heritage. I didn't load them to max or anything, but after shooting about a dozen, they leaded like the devil. I loaded some more really light, and they shot well with no leading. I suppose they are quite soft. Anyway, today I decided to pull the remaining 88 bullets and reload them with the mild load. I learned that while the hammer type kinetic puller works well enough for one or two rounds, it ain't much fun doing a bunch. Load any new loads you want to try in small quantities.1 point
