Hey gang... Seeing as how some of you really "love" change (haha) I thought that it might be a good idea to go ahead and start talking about some upcoming improvements and changes to TGO that will occur this month. There are some things coming down the pipe that I think the majority of you will really enjoy, and there are some things coming that may be a bit of an adjustment to some of you as well. Rather than write a really long preamble about all of this, let me just dive into the specifics. New: Image Gallery I have purchased the license to use the Invision Power Image Gallery system. Because Amazon's S3 storage is so cheap, I am finally able to offer you all the ability to host photos of your gun collections for everyone to enjoy, right here on TGO. In actuality, the Image Gallery also has the ability to host videos, but that is a feature I will have to give some thought to enabling as we move ahead. For the time being we will just allow photos. New: Articles and Reviews I have also purchased the license to use the Invision Power Pages system which allows us to host articles and reviews written by TGO Members and TGO Staff, in a nicely formatted, easily searched library of material. Basically it will allow me and the Staff to chose posts that you are already writing or have written, and promote them to either an Article or a Review depending on the content. One of things that has made TGO so successful over the years is the amount of knowledge amassed within it because of you. This just allows us to organize it a little better for everyone's benefit. Uncertain Future: Real-time Chat As I had mentioned previously, Invision Power is discontinuing their real-time Chat feature that some of you enjoy using here on TGO. I honestly don't understand why they are doing this beyond the explanation that they have offered on their support forum. Namely, that it is not a popular product within their portfolio and maintaining it draws away resources that they want to focus on other things. Bummer. I will be continuing to look for a replacement for the Chat feature. So far, the prospective replacements have not been very good or very exciting, but I have not given up. The current Chat system will expire at the end of April, 2017. New: Improved Classified Ads This is a big one and honestly is the one that I am most excited about. One of the things that has kept me from adopting a more feature rich Classified Ads approach on TGO has been the popularity of the Tapatalk mobile phone application. In a nutshell, Tapatalk doesn't show you the whole "TGO Experience" and only shows you the basic things (threads, posts, private messages) and only in the Tapatalk format. If it doesn't fit inside their carton, it doesn't get displayed on their app. Also a bummer. I have purchased a new Classifieds add-on for our forum software that not only provides you with an experience similar to Gunbroker or any other number of sites that allow easy upload of product photos, but it also creates a new thread inside the forums any time that you post an ad, so that folks using Tapatalk can participate as well. Some of the features this thing has are: Central area for you to view all of your ads, including expired ads, and manage them. People can make offers (bids) on an advertisement if you have set the ad to allow it. Ads are integrated into the IPBoard activity streams and show up as new material. Ads are searchable within IPBoard like any other content. Ads can include Google Maps if an address is provided by the person posting the ad. Ads can be added to a "Wish List" by members. Ads can contain photos, easily uploaded to the ad from within the system. Ads can be marked to allow questions and answers. We will also have a special section of Ads just for our TGO Vendors to showcase items for sale! I will be making the new Classifieds system available to you as quickly as possible. I have already begun setting it up and hope to have it ready for use within the next week or two. Uncertain Future: Mutiple "Themes" for Viewing TGO I had to save the bad news for last, I guess. Maintaining multiple "themes" for viewing TGO is a real pain and takes a lot of time. Whenever a new version of the forum software is released, I can end up spending hours to make the various themes work with the new version, and unfortunately my free time for this sort of thing is going to be extremely limited in 2017 as I focus on going back to college for another advanced degree. My free time for a lot of stuff is going to be limited because of that. I know that some of you really prefer the Dark theme and find it to be easier on your eyes, but I am honestly not sure for how much longer I can keep that available to you. If I find an easier way to provide a darker version of our main visual theme, I will gladly jump on it, but at the moment I just cannot make any promises. Hopefully those of you who prefer the darker theme will be able to just bump down the brightness on your computer or mobile devices, and stick with us. Well, that's the long and short of it all. Feel free to ask questions or discuss. I'll be glad to offer whatever additional information that I can.9 points

David, you do more,to keep this running with little to no appreciation. We are guests here and thank you for all you do.7 points

Finished up my most recent build thinking it would shoot 5.56, turns out it throws flames. Joking aside I was shooting some Monarch ammo that had considerably more flash than American made ammo. This picture was also the worst out of multiple magazines. Thought it was a funny picture regardless.6 points

A Kifaru Rambling Rifle. Those things are awesome. You suck at posting links but have great taste in rifles. http://www.gunbroker.com/item/6105246543 points

I see a push feed action, plastic stock, and three barrels. $5k would buy three really nice rifles. Sorry. I guess I am dead inside. They even sawed the foreend off the stock!2 points

It'll be interesting to see if insurance rates in TN start going up now since people don't have a choice now. They went up in KY when a similar law was enacted many moons ago. Slowly started creeping up over a few years, and now in KY insurance is at least 50% higher than here in TN. When I moved from KY to TN in 2010, the same coverage by the same company on 3 vehicles went from $250/month to $150ish. Hope it doesn't happen here too.2 points

Depends on the seller. If I am selling to someone I do not know I ask two questions, "Are you a citizen of Tennessee?" and "Are you prohibited from owning a firearm?". If they answer correctly I take their cash and hand them a gun. If a seller wants me to fill out a form with all kinds of personal information I walk.2 points

http://www.drroyspencer.com/2017/01/cold-to-be-followed-by-southern-snowstorm/ Don't know how accurate this is and it's a ways off so it can change, but I'm sure there's some of you that are anxious for a good dumping of the white stuff1 point

Unless I’ve missed it in the news, there doesn’t seem to have been any reminder to the public about the last phase of the new vehicle insurance law going into effect tomorrow. Starting tomorrow, you have to have proof of insurance to renew your tags. The new fines and penalties went into effect last year but the County Clerk/Insurance Company’s data base is supposed to go on line tomorrow. I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to be in for a rude awakening. In case anyone missed it, driving without insurance is no longer just a traffic ticket, it’s a class C misdemeanor. If you’re involved in an accident with injuries, it’s a class A misdemeanor.1 point

Your sand box, your rules. We'll adapt. And it sounds like there's a carrot to go along with the stick. I will say that I'm happy to see you excited about what you're doing here. That can only result in trickle down positive results for the site. If you need anything just ask.1 point

David we are going to revolt.... not really. Sounds like you spend a lot of time worrying about keeping us happy. Thanks for everything. I know this is just a side gig for you. You are better than me. I need to go back to school, but can't stand the thought of it. I barely get to sleep as is. Just remember the best part of being in school is...well.. drinking to forget you are in school. Lol1 point

Sounds like it will be good for all. Now to learn how to adjust the brightness on my computer. I do thank you for everything you do to keep this site up to date and running so smooth.1 point

TWRA did finally confirm it when someone had trail cam footage. The last I heard, it was still unclear if any appear to be taking up residence or if they're just passing through the area on a semi-regular basis.1 point

That's cool man. Did that with my daughter this year. She helped me clean fish with a butter knife too. She was there when her mama and I cleaned a deer this year too and now when she sees a knife, she'll say, "Daddy, we cut the deer meat?" LOL. She saw a pink knife on the computer the other day and said, "Daddy, I get that one and cut the deer meat."1 point

This is what mine looks like. Leaned the hard way that I need an allen key in the grip compartment at all times. But now, all my rifles are the same style, side charging one way or another.1 point

At my age, new year's eve is pretty boring, so I watched some TV. On the Univision channel a Hispanic magician performed a trick by covering himself with a blanket and counted, "Uno....dos...." and he vanished without a tres.1 point

I'm not holding out great hope that this will get me spending wheel gun dollars over S&W or Ruger anytime soon. FortKnox mentioned rock island revolvers. Ihate to say it, but they look more like a Colt than this Colt does IMO. I'll reserve final judgment until I at least dry fire one a few times, but so far this is disappointing, and it could have been the best thing since sliced cake.1 point

Very true. I took a carbine course w/ Pat Rogers a while back and one of his favorite points was to fight with a wet bolt carrier group. Didn't matter what you used as long as it was lubed. To make the point he found someone w/ an insufficiently lubricated bolt, pulled out some vagisil and lubricated the bolt. Dude then went on to fire several hundred rounds that day w/o a single problem. I'm not going to run feminine products in my guns, but his point was well taken.1 point

All... Im gonna post this without comment; lest ye believe a fable about the stoutness of the great 10 mm (...and it is great, for an auto pistol...)... This is data from a simple Google search... Underwood 200G JHP 1250 fps 694 ft-lb energy Underwood 220 HC 1200 fps 703 ft-lb energy Buffalo Bore 41mag 230 jhp..... 1450 fps 1074 ft-lb energy Remington 210 soft pt................1300 fps 788 ft-lb energy... This is the low end... Underwood 210 JHP....................1560 fps 1135 ft-lb energy.... Pretty good here... The point of this is to illustrate that a 10 mm (...powerful as it is...) is a light loaded 41 mag... Remember, energy goes up as the square of velocity... All that bein said; the great 10 mm is more than adequate for most any varmint that walks on two or more legs up to a pretty good size... I like 'em... nerdy leroy the amateur student of handgun ballistics...1 point

I bought my fourth Bersa .380, the Burnt Bronze model, a few days ago. I've found them to be extremely reliable. Many of the problems owners have shared on the Bersa Chat board are ammo related--relatively few can be blamed on the gun itself. A lifetime service agreement is extended to all original owners. After shooting trials, this pistol will be strapped to my hip regularly for EDC.1 point

There will be very few 18-20 year olds honorably discharged from the military. With some exceptions, an enlistment is at least 4 years, meaning 21 would be the youngest a person would normally honorably separate, and that would be after enlisting at 17 with parental permission, if that's even still a thing. Short of reinstating the 2-year draft, the only ways I can think of an under-21 honorable discharge are going to be medical discharge or force reductions. This really is a stupid law that helps very few people and hurts us on reciprocity. It would have made sense if they had included active duty 18-20 year olds. It would have still hurt us on reciprocity, but it would have at least helped more than just a handful of special cases qualify for an HCP.1 point

I guess I don't clean and oil my guns enough, a $10 bottle last me a year or more. I can't see playing petroleum chemist for the amount I use. Good to know the options if needed though.1 point

I was not Aircrew but did have more than my fair share of riding in the back and minimal stick time, I was a maintainer not a flyer. The only time I actually worried about crashing, I caught a ride on a 46 leaving the HMCS Vancouver trying to get back to my home ship, the USS Carl Vinson. We were dodging a typhoon in the South China Sea and the 46 started having issues. I wasn't on ICS so I didn't hear what was going on. But the crewman all of a sudden started running back and forth, removing panels, grabbing tools, etc. I knew we were on the high side of their flight leg before bingo fuel and the winds were not helping. It was a long tense flight home. LOL1 point

Happy Holidays, my friends! I spent the Christmas holiday with my family in Mexico. My family has a home that is perked up on a mountain overlooking the largest freshwater lake in the country. It was the first time that my siblings and I have spent Christmas in Mexico and it has been well over 40 years for my parents. In the spirit of the forum, I have included photographs of my grandfather's Pre 70 Series Colt 38 Super Automatic that was produced in 1966. He gave it to my father prior to his passing in 2006 and my father gave it to me on Christmas Day.1 point

Neat. I can guarantee you there is no serial number on it, so there is no need to disassemble. Serial numbers were not required before 1968 and many, many old guns simply do not have them.1 point

Is this new? I wonder if it will impact reciprocity with other states. I have seen other states drop reciprocity over the age requirement. I'm glad to hear that military members have the ability to get a permit though.1 point

Having one of George's holsters for my Baby Eagle (Jericho) that he patterned after a Glock 19, I can say his work is awesome. My holster was from several years ago, and it was good then, I am sure his skill have only gotten better. Great thread.1 point

Most people don't replace their single stage, they just supplement it. When you load bottleneck rounds you will have to size/trim before you can load the cases. With the pistol rounds I just clean mine and run them through the press. Since your shooting IDPA then yea go for the 650. I would suggest a case feeder in additional base kit. I chose not to buy the powder checks as I do visual while I'm running the press. Make sure you go slow while you're learning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

Great tutorial! I use a deer antler as a burnishing tool. I've also found a shoe brush to be a great polishing/finishing tool. After applying Resolene, I like to apply neutral shoe polish and buff with this brush. I don't have the chisels for the stitching holes. I may have to try them sometime. With an overstitch wheel and an awl, something like a double layer belt is quite tedious. These look like they might make it go a bit faster. I'd add a rawhide maul, or hard rubber hammer to your list of tools. I also find a freehand groover very useful in addition to the groover pictured above. Tandy Leather is your one stop shop for leather and accessories. Their staff is also helpful and knowledgeable. Make sure to use vegetable tanned leather for sheaths and holsters, as chrome tanned leather can be corrosive to steel. I like to use shoulders, but other parts, such as sides would work also. 4/5 oz for small sheaths and mag pouches, 6/7 oz for larger sheaths, and 7/8 oz for holsters.1 point
