  1. Secret Santa is a lot of fun.... but mine is testing my patience. Literally. Check it out! This box was on my front porch. Turned upside down. So I brought it in like that. Feet included for scale, pay no attention to the dimensions on the box. Righting it then opening, I found this tiny package. Granted, there was also what appeared to be a giant pile of paper packed in there... which all turned out to be these! So I'm not sure what to do. Open them all now? Wait till Christmas - then keep the party going for 12 more days?!!?!! Not sure if I can keep the the inner child at bay and NOT tear into them all. We'll find out soon enough! PS: Secret Santa marked that one is for Ruby and Oso(Bear!) - The dogs! Huzzah! Bonus pic of Bear, he went straight too sniffing the one marked for him. I will have to visit my parent's house for a recent pic of Ruby! EDIT: ANOTHER BOX CAME IN TODAY. Updates soon. The first boxes are opened! Opened the small package marked Merry Christmas - There was a camo Gideons New Testament In the tall box I received today there was another XI, and a note - it is the 12 days of Christmas. And no, it's not late! The 12 days start on Christmas and go till Epiphany. That said, I'll test my will and try to open them 1 at a time... unless the forum consensus is just tear the paper. In which case it's opening time.

  2. It's not even a contest. Cabela's everything is better than BP. I hate that BP bought it.

  4. Got mine last week and just now able to post. Got some great stuff! Got a new mag for my new 10/22. Much better than the junky ones I had! A new bore snake...can never have to many of those to have on hand in different places. And I guess I need to start a bug out bag! Got a neat little .22 ammo dispenser (never even heard of such, but wow I needed it!), some combat gauze, and a tourniquet. Not to mention the well thought out note. Thanks Santa! 5. This 870 started its life as a Police issued weapon in California. Remington had extra Wingmasters that they outfitted with 18" barrels and polymer furniture. Once this one had fulfilled its duty it was sold and is now in my possession. I added a Wilson Combat 2 shot extension and refinished it in OD green. What do you guys think? 6. Sears has been bordering on bankruptcy and irrelevance for years. The Craftsman line of tools went to hell years ago. The last saving grace they have (or had?) is appliances. Most of mine are Kenmore and they are excellent. In the past, usually slightly better stuff from the same name brand manufacturers than what Lowe's & Home Depot sells. But in reality, all appliances are for #### these days. It is now your responsibility to rebuy everything every few years to keep the garbage manufactures in business.

  7. I believe the purchase will be finalized in January. I'm curious to see how many Cabelas locations survive the acquisition.

  9. Got mine today as well. Can't go wrong with a Cubs flag and nice Leatherman. I will definitely use it as it is a nice carry size. Edit: Received another package today with a nice pocket LED Flashlight. It's a bright little guy! Thanks to my Secret Santa.

  11. Got mine today. I made a killin' 3 sets of scales for knife making......a really nice two stone sharpening set with 800 and 3000 grit wetstones....a great Nalgene container to take my favorite drink out to the shop. Thanks Santa....it's much appreciated and will be put to good use. The scales were not labeled as to what kind of wood they are so if my Secret Santa could let me know even through a 3rd party if you wish to remain anonymous as to what they are I'd really appreciate it.

  16. I carry a knife everyday, typically my damascus TGO Magic. In an effort to minimize scratches on my favorite knife I don't typically put anything else in the pocket I carry my knife in (keys, change, etc). I've been TDY out in Oklahoma for the last couple of months and I came across these jeans made by Ariat (the boot company). They have a built in knife pocket that allows me to carry my knife and use the pocket without fear of damage to my knife. A small thing I know but it's made me pretty happy. Merry Christmas y'all.

  17. Mandatory bragging thread. Got mine already, this is a fantastic knife, perfectly balanced, nice and heavy. Holster looks like it was machine produced as well, you would have a hard time finding a better quality knife than this. Thanks!

  18. But it wasn't that cheap! It was $11 BILLON! I understand buying a name like Sears because of it's history, but it's like Toyota buying Yugo. KMart's name wasn't worth crap honestly. I told my mom today that I don't think I've been in a kmart in 15 years. However, I did buy a few items at sears this black friday for a good price. And BTW, not all hand tools are lifetime warranty any more. They replaced my staple gun with one that doesn't have a lifetime warranty. So how do that work if it fails? I had a lifetime one to start with...

  20. It's more complicated. The guy who was city manager at the time wanted to make his mark as a pro development kinda pol apparently. I know the folks who made money off of the bigass rock pile and they weren't particularly political, just happened to own one of the last large tracts of land in a city that can't annex into the county, thanks to VA laws. The idiot savant city council fell for it. Part of that was jealousy of Bristol, TN. Part of it was their thinking they could swindle a few bucks off the deal. And part of it was a desperate development company that was losing their ass and needed badly to do some kind of deal no matter what the actual chances of it working were. Looks like their most memorable accomplishment will be the bankruptcy of one of the few remaining independent cities in the state of VA.

  22. No contest. Can't stand Bass Pro and their thievery,er... high prices. Selection is nice, but not at that cost. Every year or so I stop at the Opry Mills store, look around for awhile, and leave with empty hands. Feels like they should rename themselves "Retail Plus", after their pricing structure. I feel the same about Gander Mountain. I've enjoyed Cabela's every time, and stop in the Bowling Green store any time we're going to see the wifey's fam in Central KY. Fair ammo and reloading prices, and some great accessories I don't see elsewhere. They usually end up stealing a couple hundred bucks from me, but I don't mind. I'm super bummed about the Bass Pro buyout, as well.

  23. My $0.02 is neither, I prefer Academy sports. I have been in 6 or 7 different BPS and I still don't need 100 different versions of a camo T-shirt. Personally I think they have too many options. Also when I go to BPS or Cabela's my first thought is how much of my purchase is going towards all the bells and whistles. Don't get me wrong, my grand kids love the aquariums and such, but Academy is my sort of store.

  24. I order on line at Cabelas and no sales tax and free shipping when possible, but guess part of that will end when & if the merger goes thru. I read on another forum where the gooberment is asking for more time to review the merger info so it's still in process I guess.

  26. http://wate.com/2016/12/16/toys-for-anderson-county-children-in-need-stolen-from-parked-vehicle/ For those of you who do not know the Rocky Top community is a relatively poor community. Not a lot of families can afford to celebrate Christmas like a lot of use do. And that is what makes this so much worse, they have stolen gifts meant for the children of poor families. For some of those kids this was going to be the only gift they receive this season. The thieves stole over 300 small gifts meant for the underprivileged children of the Rocky Top community. I cannot imagine the thought process because it was likely someone from the Rocky Top community who stole the items from the needy children within that community. I spoke with the people organizing the event and they were able to have a decent time for the kids although it was not as good as it would have been had the thieves not stolen Christmas but it was as good as it could be considering the circumstances. The packages were stolen less than 24 hours before the gift giving ceremony and that left a lot of members of the community scrambling to make up the loss so no child would be left out. I am not posting this so others will donate, the event is already over and done with. I am posting this because the more people hear about it the better the chance is the thieves who stole Christmas from 300+ children will be caught. The thieves didn't stop with the theft of the gifts either. This is put on for the less fortunate kids in the community and normally these kids would also receive free photos with Santa but not this year. Not only did the thieves take the gifts but they also took the setup the event organizers bought so the children can have their pictures taken with Santa. And as bad as that is it is not the worst part of it. The worst part is the thieves threw a lot of what they stole into a creek, including the picture taking setup, this made the pictures for the children that much more difficult. So not only did they steal Christmas from the children but they also stole the only photos some of these kids will ever get with Santa. In my opinion stealing from poor children is about as low as you can get as a human being but to then destroy some of it just to grief the less fortunate kids is less than human. So if anyone has any information regarding this call the number in the quote. Those responsible had better hope they are in jail before the community finds out who they are. There are a lot of people who are looking for those responsible and not because they want the bad guys to go to jail. They are hoping for some backwoods justice before LE can catch them. I honestly hope the thieves get everything they deserve and then some.

  29. More CZ hotness for 2017, incl P-10c: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/12/21/pure-awesome-cz-usa-2017-new-product-catalog/ I'm not a fan of guns with a twang... I'm sorry, I meant striker. I prefer hammers, But the first reports on the P-10 did spark my curiosity. However, I'm not a fan of plastic frames either, so I'll likely never have a P-10. Now, if they'd make a steel or alloy framed version, preferably with traditional slide-in-frame design, in essence a 75 with a striker, then I'd probably add it to my list of wants... provided the striker is as smooth as the initial reports proclaim. Sure would like to try it out though. (Kevin or David: Please let me know when you get one. )

  30. There's a drawing for permits in Birchwood, TN. You have to be physically present to obtain one. Check TWRA. Didn't hunt from a blind like ducks or try to call them in. Never hunted geese but we hunted a farmers field next to the hiwassee river and you could hear hundreds of them squawking on the other side of the trees. So we hid in the tree lines and picked out ones that were flying low enough. In my county you can see hundreds in fields driving down the road. The guys I hunted with said the numbers were low compared to years past and they weren't even all here yet. We probably saw over 100 birds fly over us the hour we were out there. My love for competitive shooting trumps hunting these days and I had to miss a match to go to the drawing. But it was worth it.

  37. Well that depends. I honestly believe yoga pants, as well as spandex pants, should not come in XXL. Yoga pants and spandex were never meant to be worn by someone who has to pour themselves into an XXL. The materials used to make spandex must be some strong material, I cannot imagine the tensile strength they have in order to survive some of the bodies they are holding in.

  42. I wouldn't call auto-forward a "feature" of the design, it is just something that happens with some pistols. On some pistols, when you slam in a new magazine, that force causes the slide stop to disengage and go forward. I have heard of S&W M&Ps doing it, and back in the 1990s, I had a Beretta 96 duty gun do the same thing.

  45. I haven't shot a yote with a 17. I did kill two foxes which were dead right there at 100. While I like my 22 Mag better I have had better luck with the 17 HMR. I don't know what it is but the round with a 17 gr bullet is like hitting small animals with a lightning bolt. 47. I've zapped 2 coyotes with my marlin 17 using CCI Vmax 17gn. One was a drt headshot at 55yds the other was a shoulder shot at maybe 90. That one ran, but only went a few yards. I've also taken a small hog, I'd guess maybe 40lb, using Winchester Super X 20gn XTP. Again, that was a rear brain shot & only around 30yds. Overall I've been very happy with both the rifle & ammunition. Sniping crows at a couple hundred yards is a hoot! However, I'd really like to upgrade to a 17WSM. I'll be honest, the hog was kinda irresponsible although it dropped on the spot. I'd be more than happy using the WSM in that application though & I do get a lot of opportunities at pigs where only rimfire are allowed.
