One thing I see missing in the news, where is the looting, where is the chaos, where is the blame the government! No you will not see these things, just people caring for other people. People are hurting and those hurting people are living amongst loving and caring people!2 points

First, I really appreciate the candor and willingness to make yourself vulnerable to scrutiny like this. Much respect. Force on Force is an eye-opener for anyone who has never done it. I have had the opportunity to do it twice now and we ran multiple scenarios both times. In some scenarios I did fine, in others I cleared leather "too soon" and in two I got smoked by not clearing leather soon enough. Both times I got whacked were during the first time I ever did Force on Force training. The second time I did it, I cleared leather quickly on a few scenarios where it was ultimately warranted but the instructors felt like I did it prematurely. I was determined not to get shot. Honestly, it taught me that surviving any such encounter is going to be equal parts intuition, training and luck. The more of any of those that you can add to the mixture, the better off you are. The only one you really have any control over is the element of training. Intuition can be sharpened, but some people just don't have it. Luck is the cruelest of them all. The convenience store scenario is the only one that I watched given limited time, and I really don't have any constructive criticism to offer that you didn't offer on your own, on camera. When you looked away for that one moment the entire situation changed drastically for the worst. I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing. But here's what I *will* say: We carry handguns, ultimately, for our own defense. We hope to be able to protect those that we love as well. To a much lesser degree we endeavor to try to protect others too. In that scenario, the shop keeper's luck ran out but you put rounds on bad-guy, saved other patrons, and "walked away" to analyze it later. That is a success in my book. I'd like to do some more Force on Force training myself, soon. Having seen the Shoot House at Royal Range in Bellevue today, I want it even more now.2 points

My opinion is to get the Benefactor membership for 6 months. It's only $20. Then make up some "Want to Trade" ads and see what happens. You'll either be surprised at the positive response and end up with some new-to-you firearms, or at worst you'll be out $20 that helped keep this site going.2 points

Funny how wives are that way. Mine has enough craft supplies to fill a Hobby Lobby, but if I bring home some scrap lumber from work to use later, I am hoarding. When she needs something fixed that my "junk" pile has a piece for she never seems to mind then. Plus I can't remember the last time I needed to buy bolts, screws, or nails. Good thing she never looks at my ammo stock. lol2 points

That is an interesting phenomenon......people grow tired of the yoke of oppressive government in liberal states and then move to more conservative states to enjoy the lower cost of living, more family friendly culture and more freedom....then they promptly get to the new state and start voting for the same kind of liberal candidates they voted for back in NJ, NY, CA, IL, MA, etc because that is who their families have always voted for and soon the new place starts to look just like the $hithole they left before.....2 points

From my experience if you have this long of an issue going on, then it needs to be "escalated". Call back in, identify the issue and order number very calm and polite. Tell the operator that this has been going on forever and you would like to "escalate to their supervisor." In most call centers these are magic words that can't be denied. I should know, I have worked in several. If the supervisor tells you they can't help, the ask them the same thing. At some point, you might have to wait on a call back, but there is someone that can help you. If they say there is no one else to talk to, ask to talk to ANTHONY ACITELLI - PRESIDENT AND CEO. You won't get to but you might get his secretary team to call you back. Some companies have the magic word rule on "talk to the President" too. There is no way that they have no stock (of stocks lol) and there is no reason for them to wait to ship them to be "fair." They are just shoveling crap. If this fails, write a letter that details everything. Mail it with tracking ($3-$4) and fax it to the fax number. Make it attention to ANTHONY ACITELLI - PRESIDENT AND CEO of Taurus Other names to drop are Vincent Abrams Senior Marketing Manager Carlos Vazquez-Pausa Director of National Sales Customer Care Call Center Call Toll Free: (800) 948-8029 Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM (EST) Phone: (305) 474-0401 Fax: (305) 623-7506 Mailing Address: 16175 NW 49 Avenue Miami Lakes, FL 33014 If you do Facebook (I don't) then write a review on their page. Almost at the top of the reviews I saw one for what sounded like the same issue. Make enough noise (politely but strongly) and someone high enough up will decide to fix it so you will stop costing them marketing dollars.1 point

We're like our own Freecycle sometimes. Tony Bates Ford in Lebanon may "trade for anything that don't eat", but I'm not sure some TGOers have that limitation. I know I've been surprised by some of the things tossed around on the Trading Post. The sex swing was probably the best.1 point

Before I share my thoughts let me just say that it's very easy to sit here on my couch and say what I would and would not have done. I think you did far better than many of the other people I've seen on the show and better than I would have done. 1st Scenario- I was impressed with how well and for how long you were able to deescalate the situation. You avoided a fight and even offered to leave instead of trying to be a hero. As for drawing your gun, that was probably a bad decision for several reasons but I understand why you did it. What ran through my mind is that had it been a real situation you could have planted your boot in the attackers ribs while he was on top of that guy. That would have enabled you to help without going lethal. The downside is that you still would be involved. Honestly, the best thing would have been if you could have called police and been a good witness since there was no weapon and you were no longer in danger. 2nd Scenario- I think you did fantastic in this one. You responded immediately and placed shots on target. One thing I noticed is that the bad guy was right in front of the door. Let's say you miss or a shot goes through him, you could potentially kill an innocent person that's about to walk into the store. I think about this a lot when I'm out in public. I realize this is unlikely but still a possibility. Obviously that didn't happen this time and you responded as you should have, but having a good backstop is something to consider. Now, as for you pointing your gun towards the other shoppers I guess it is bad but I probably would have done the same thing. That is just something you will have to train on. Scan your surroundings without pointing your weapon. The fact that you even thought to do this shows that the training you've had is working. Overall I think you did really well.1 point

I have heard similar stories from multiple disasters and people. Including selling things that were donated, to the people they were donated for.1 point

"Rather give it through Dolly than the Red Cross." Jeb48 quote I would also make a donation to Dolly long before the Red Cross. I learned back on 9/11 just how bad the Red Cross is operated at the upper levels. There was multi millions of dollars donated to the Red Cross but very little of it made it to the people that were hurt and it was shortly after that the CEO of the Red Cross quit and left and so did a very large sum of money that was never accounted for. I also saw on the local news that hundreds of people showed up to donate blood at all the Red Cross locations in Nashville and 1000's of units of blood were donated. Far more then the Red Cross had room to store. The hospitals of which Nashville and surrounding area has many offered to take any blood that the Red Cross had no room to store because they did have room to store the excess for them. They were not going to use the blood but store it. They would have purchased any of the blood they used that was stored for the Red Cross but rather than allowing the hospitals to take and store it the Red Cross allowed all that wonderful lfe saving blood to spoil and then disposed of it. That was it for me and the Red Cross. I have not given any more blood or money to them.........................1 point

Since it keeps coming up, I never had a Driver's Ed course. The only 'training' for driving I had came from my parents and from reading the Driver's Handbook before taking the test. I took the test back when it was still offered at a small driver's testing center that used to be in Loudon. The person who evaluated me had me drive about a mile down a back road, pull into an empty church parking lot and demonstrate that I could park between the lines in one of the parking spaces - not backing in, not parallel parking, just pull into the space - and then drive the mile or so back to the center. I have had been in one accident that was written up as my fault - when I slid up hill two car lengths after applying my brakes while traveling at only 20mph and bumped the back of a vehicle in front of me in the Dodge Dakota I used to drive because it had just started to drizzle rain and the road was slick (and that is the reason I will not drive a 2WD light pickup truck ever again if I can avoid it.) There was a cop in his cruiser directly behind me who witnessed the whole thing and saw that I was neither speeding nor following too closely so the responding officer wrote it up as having 'complicating factors' or something like that and it was only because of the ridiculous law that states if you hit someone in the rear it is automatically your fault that it was written up as being my fault. That was in September of 1996 so it was twenty years and a few months ago. My point is that for nearly thirty years I have driven a vehicle on an almost daily basis. I have driven a full-sized RV completely across the state, have driven various trucks pulling various trailers (both cargo and a camping trailer) and have had an F endorsement which allowed me to drive a passenger van for work (which required an additional written test which took maybe ten minutes to complete and five extra dollars per DL renewal.) I drive a vehicle a whole lot more often than I actually have to fire a gun for self defense (which has, happily, been never so far.) My vehicle has more potential for causing death or destruction than the j-frame I usually carry yet driving - which is not an enumerated right - required no training beyond what my parents taught me and reading up on the 'rules and laws of the road'. As for the HCP course, heck, the Hunter's Safety course that I had to take in order to buy a hunting license is more in-depth and strenuous than the HCP course yet there was one fellah in my HCP class who had, apparently, already taken the class two or three times and yet still could not even pass the written test to make it to the range portion (the instructor was allowing him to retake the course free of charge after the first time.) That really is kind of scary. Of course, nothing says that guy can't carry (illegally) without a permit so requiring an HCP to legally carry really doesn't prevent an 'unsafe' individual from carrying in public - it only allows additional charges if that person is caught or does something dangerous or irresponsible with a firearm. I, personally, do think that there should be an HCP certification course but it should be provided free of charge by the state, just like Hunter's Safety and the certificate showing that one passed the course should be the HCP and should be the only requirement for carrying a firearm with no additional licensing or expense required. That certificate should be good for a lifetime but if someone wants to retake the course after, say, five years or so in order to get a 'refresher' on the main laws (which will change over time) then doing so should, again, be free of charge for the individual. Further training is great and all but should not be mandatory for basic handgun carry either open or concealed. Perhaps there could be an 'enhanced permit' that would allow carry in places that are now restricted to folks with an HCP and perhaps that 'enhanced permit' could require further training. That might be the best way to strike a balance between 'excercising a right' and 'weeding out those who would be a danger to themselves or others'. I would think that such a setup would also allow TN to continue with the reciprocal agreements we have with other states who recognize a TN HCP.1 point

I buy most of my jeans from Sam's. Usually around 13-14 bucks a pair. Also have found some really nice Wranglers at second-had stores for under 10. I'm wearing some of them now in fact.1 point

If suppressors came out from under NFA rules, the immediate issue would be the production ability of the current industry. I think, that once sales of them became commonplace, then the major manufacturers (DD, BCM, et al) would add suppressor machining to their factories and alongside the current ones, would get enough to the market to start having price wars. All that would probably take a year to hit a favorable level to the consumer level, but they won't be near as expensive as they are now.1 point

While I agree it might be depressing, if you truly want to help then you should go. Many people in that area have jobs that depend on tourism. If everyone cancels their reservations it only hurts them further. Go, laugh, love, spend money and enjoy yourselves.1 point

Watching that video reminded me that a lot of gun writers really say and write stupid things. Such as pointing out the undercut of the P10's trigger guard and saying it's a popular thing that people do to Glocks. Glocks come with a healthy undercut already! Sure, people add more, but the Glocks I own came with more of an undercut than the P10 appears to have. Also such as calling the grip pattern a "grenade pattern". I guess? I wouldn't have identified it as the type of pattern that a grenade has. It looks very Glock Gen4-like. I do think it was smart to carefully copy the Glock 19/23's dimensions and configuration of the frame forward of the grip to make the P10 fit existing Glock holsters. I also wonder when Glock will file a lawsuit against them. Edited To Add: I want one.1 point

I know from what I've read that some of the Woodford Reserve Master's Collection series have not been that good. However, I've now had a chance to try this year's Brandy Cask Finish that I bought a few days ago, and I have to say that it's pretty darn good. It might be a bit heavy on the wood flavor for some, but dark cherry and spice notes really accentuate the overall flavor. I liked it neat, and opted not to try it with any water. It's pricey at close to $100, but I'll probably buy more if I can find them. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

I agree with what others have said. I would start with CZ and then move on if they don't have what you want.1 point

Keep in mind many of the cheaper 28's will be built on 20 gauge or even 12 gauge sized receivers so they will be heavier than need be. Not so with the CZ. They share the 410 receivers. They are very light and swing up like a dream. Always wanted one and 28 is what I would get also.1 point

I think Ricks group could have easily defeated Nagan. He walks right up to the gate with his henchmen in a cluster behind him. 2 or 3 gunman inside the gate, 2 on the walls and a couple in the woods in hardened positions. Negan is the first to go, the others are in a crossfire. Without their leader and dropping like flies the saviors would lose the will to fight1 point

Can't drill and tap it? Maybe not with a hand drill and bits from Walmart, but any sort of decent machinist shouldn't even blink at that. Google says it shouldn't be any harder than HRC 48, which is getting up there but a long way from too hard to tap. Look up Mike at Lawenforcementsalestn.1 point

I would have never said anything about weapons in my vehicle. Why open yourself up to that if there is no duty to inform?1 point
-
You say that, but cops don't know that. Especially here in Memphis. I was pulled over with my AR pistol loaded and in my truck. I showed license and CCW right off the bat. Told them there was a loaded firearm in my vehicle. I was ordered out by the cop and his partner. I had to stand with both hands on my tail gate until their supervisor got there. Was given a stern talking to about the firearm. I even had to prove it was considered a pistol. They were pretty reluctant to let me go. I the end, I still got a speeding ticket and they looked through my truck. Never assume the cops know the laws.1 point

Yeah, when I hear "truck gun", I think primarily of a SHTF situation. Not many folks' vehicles are used where you can just jump out of the cab and take game whenever you happen to see it in normal "legal" times. - OS1 point
