Hi folks-- haven't been on here in several months. No, nobody ticked me off or anything like that, just had some things going on and needed a little break from the forum scene, so I took a sabbatical for a bit from several forums to which I belong. In the meantime, picked up a few new "toys", and have been enjoying running them through their paces at the range. Good to be back-- now I've got pages and pages of topics to catch up on.3 points

You now have immunity from all future panic buys. No one panic buys .30-06 ammo. Why? Men with .30-06s don't panic.2 points

My parents came in to visit today & surprised me with a gift with immense personal meaning to me. Today my mother gave me my grandfather's Remington 550-1, which he bought brand new in 1956 when she was only 4 yrs old. It's in new condition & he even kept the original hang tag from 1956. As you can see he took extreme care of everything he owned. That's how he lived every day of his life & I had a lot of respect for him. My grandfather was a veteran of WWII & served on the U.S.S. Mellette (APA-156) at Iwo Jima & Okinawa where he drove a landing craft. After the war he drove a truck for nearly 40 years before retiring & was an active member of our local American Legion, VFW, & the Shriner's until his death. He was married to my grandmother for 64 years, who is still active at the age of 95. Sorry to ramble, but he was a good man & it would take a book to describe him & his life. Sadly, he passed away Feb. of 2014 at the age of 89. This was an unexpected gift that will be cherished & eventually passed down to my children.2 points

I participated in a group buy on the FAL Files for a IMBEL Gear Logo receiver. I picked it up from the Nashville Armory last Wednesday. In two short months, I will be sending the receiver + my IMBEL parts kit to Mark at Arizona Response Systems to build my very first FAL. I am pretty excited to say the least! After patiently waiting 231 days, I have recieved my tax stamp for my Dead Air Mask. I have included a photograph of my Dead Air Mask affixed to my Romanian AKT-98, Last and but not least, I received my Russian VEPR chambered in 7.62x39 from the good folks at Atlantic Firearms yesterday. A special thank you to Atlantic Firearms for their stupendous processing + handling of my order!2 points

I've heard it said, in fact, I've said it myself, that the .30 caliber of 1906 is the finest, most versatile cartridge in the world. I always felt justified in parroting this pearl of wisdom, because logic &, frankly, hundreds of thousands of people prove it to be true. However I always felt a wee tad hypocritical saying this, as a complete caliber whore, because until today....I've never actually owned one. I've bought several, but only because it's the cheapest way to buy a Savage that I've immediately rebarrelled to something sleeker, sexier, faster, bigger etc... I've never actually touched a single round of from an '06. In. My. Life So now as the immensely proud owner of an American classic, the Rifleman's Rifle, the venerable Winchester model 70, lovingly nestled in a stunning, quilted walnut stock; I need someone to school me on the rascal. What bullets work for which critter? What powders are giving the best, consistent loads? Who likes what brass? What've you shot, how far was it & how happy were you with the performance? Who wants to buy a Savage 110 in .280ai? Why did I have the visceral urge to buy this thing? Is it compulsory to buy a full sized 1911 now? Shouldn't it have come with a Greencard?1 point

I like 150 gr. for deer. I use IMR 4350 and IMR 4895. Some like 165 gr. bullets a lot. The only thing I've hunted with mine is deer. For smaller game like varmints I go with a .223. Full power loads in the woods, are a little more than you need for deer, in my opinion. Some will disagree. The farthest I've ever killed with a .30-06 was 348 yards. Its a killing caliber. It was awesome in the M1 Garand.1 point

I hope it came with an N-400 form so you can just go ahead and complete the deal...1 point

This is a pretty good, short video featuring Adam Kraut, Esq. going over what he thinks the election of Trump really means for us as relates to the HPA.1 point

7 3/4 x 5 3/8 x 1 3/8. Yup...., but just barely. Might have to go with a Wilson Combat Concealment Grip Safety just to make sure. Hmmmmm...., funny how a WC part would make that work.1 point

JayC, I agree with you that too much time has been spent on getting into the employer-employee relationship (a civil issue when it comes to weapons) VS improving the criminal weapons statutes to favor those with handgun carry permits. There is no reason that people in Mississippi can get what they call an enhanced license that is basically the same as ours and be legal just about anywhere including K-12 schools while we risk felony charges for carrying on K-12 and university property. Someone should not risk a misdemeanor weapons charge over a 'no gun' sign either when they visit someone at a hospital, do business at a local government building, or help someone get luggage out of the airport terminal. With a republican super majority and republican governor, these guys need to earn their NRA A ratings and have no excuse for not fixing these problems than can snag good folks.1 point

A bunch of people in our office building use that service. It seems like that truck is always out in the parking lot.1 point

I think that is as good of an idea as any. Although the 4 or so CZ75s I've had were all standard double actions a friend has one in SA, plus I had a Sig X-Five Tactical for a time that was SA. Full size SA 9mms are fun to shoot, and 1911 9mms are just as fun (I've had several). I view them as range toys or competition guns because I find them somewhat awkward for concealed carry.1 point

What we, as gun owners, need to be doing is calling those on the committee as well as those who will be voting to move it forward. There is not law that says we cannot call representatives from other jurisdictions. If we can come together then we can get this passed as easily as we stopped the bans. Imagine the innovation that will come when anyone can make a silencer in their garage. I have several designs I would like to try but do not like the cost to do that.1 point

Man, I hope so. I've still got my eye on a Walther PPS M2, that I'm still trying to convince my self that I can afford it somehow. No luck thus far, LOL. Being poor is a B - - - h.1 point

I don't know that I am really looking for any deals, but I sure hope to see some innovation from the manufacturers now that the Clinton juggernaut isn't looming over them.1 point

I guess I am missing something, but it must be a miserable way of going about ones day to always be looking over your shoulder and on high alert. Yes, there are some bad people out there, but man relax a bit.1 point

Hope it's okay to post my own recent purchases here. Well, I bought a PSA AK-47 Gen 2 after seeing the AK Operators Union give it a very favorable review after it survived the gauntlet and accuracy tests. I picked up the base model and immediately had to strip it down. I tuned it slightly by polishing the slide ramps and hammer face then put some American made refinished dark red furniture on it. The furniture needed quite the fitting on it all, but I got it to work. In the end, I think it looks great! Now to the range...1 point
