I have never shot a .17HMR. Now I have to. I traded a 1022 I had for this rifle and some ammo and the scope. This model of Savage is the 93R17 BTVXP (Walnut). The scope is a Tasco Target/Varmint 6-24x42 Mildot. I can't wait to see how it shoots at 185 yrds against 2" saltine crackers. If it is easier or more fun shooting saltines at 185 yrds (max range at LBL target range) than my Feddersen nitrided bull barrelled 10/22 I might hang on to it.2 points

I wholeheartedly agree, my friend! It has easily become one of my favorite rifles in my collection. They did an excellent job bluing rifles. The trigger is equally spectacular. As far as modifications are concerned, the previous owner saved me the heartache of partially de-banning the rifle by ditching the thumbhole stock and adding a pistol grip. I strongly considered re--fanging the rifle and converting to a Spiker. For the money that I would spend doing so, I would rather tuck it away and purchase an actual Spiker. Aside from adding a cleaning rod, I need to put her through her paces at the range. i had my LASIK procedure on Thursday and my vision is currently spotty at best. My fingers are crossed that I can get to the range by the end of the following week!1 point

Not me, those things are dangerous. I had a staple gun once, but it made me nervous even having it unloaded in the garage. I turned it in at a buyback to make sure it stayed off the street. They didn't give me anything for it, but I felt better knowing I had done my community a service.1 point

Absolutely, Solar Stoves and Rocket stoves aren't backpacking items, they're alternative home or vehicle born camping tools. As for no sun no cooking with a solar oven...well kind of...if is fully overcast, night or storming then your right a solar cooker's out. But solar cookers work even when its more overcast then you'd think it possible for them to work, it just adds to the cooking time. I don't know if I'll get really serious about solar cooking and rocket stoves but those that have reduced their utilities bills. The thing about rocket stoves and wood gasification stoves is they use twigs, pine cones, dried grass and foliage to cook faster with less fuel and effort. They also reduce fire hazards. FWIW I've cooked a lot of meals over an open fire or fire pit but some places I've been wouldn't allow an open fire.1 point

I really, really hope Mariota is a good quarterback. He seems level headed, hasn't gotten into any trouble. I wish him the best.1 point

Looks to me like a hype type response hoping to appeal to the closet warriors, the wanna be's, and similar to the hype presented by Sig to ramp sales up on the Legion guns. No, I'm not against Springfield, I just think this is all just marketing for us to be drawn in.1 point

My kids get fussed at when I catch them shooting at one another. The guns get taken away when they point them at me.1 point

Of all of your rifles this by far is my favorite one yet. Any plans for it or just leaving stock? Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk1 point

The policy has been changed and they no longer make you show them the gun is empty. The last few times the ticket agent didn't even look at the gun. She just asked if it was locked and unloaded. You'll be fine. It's an easy process. Just don't forget to declare it or you could get in trouble.1 point

Great info here. I was going to mention the idea that plated bullets seem to run 1 or 2 thousandths over in my experience as well. I've always noted them to be more "snug" than real fmj in every caliber I load. Actually, in 38/357, I've about given up on using real fmj with a cannelure because no matter how hard of a crimp I put on the cases, many rounds still end up with a bullet that can be spun by hand, even after a run through the Lee FCD and an obvious roll crimp. That is also due to the wide tolerances of 38/357 brass makers, but the slightly oversized plated bullets I get from Xtreme and Berry's load up nice and snug. Though it's a different caliber and problem, I can see a bullet that is one or two thousandths wider causing these problems in 9mm. I run everything through an FCD just 'cuz, but the way all my other dies are set, hardly ANY 9mm cases have any meaningful contact with the die. Hope you get it figured out!1 point

Here's proof to the Democrats that AK's can be used to shoot deer. This is an older picture of my brother and me in the early 90's when we went deer hunting. We didn't have deer rifles so we used our AK's . I had a MAADI (Egyptian AK) and my brother used a MAK90 (Chinese AK) to hunt with . My brother nailed a buck. It was a clean shot through the heart with his Chinese MAK90. His first deer and my first time gutting and butchering a deer. What an awesome time for us . It was 20 degrees when we were hunting and a few hours later it was 65 degrees. When I was butchering it , it was so warm the fat was foaming. Awesome time for us both . We aren't twins but we are very close. Just an awesome time and great food !1 point
