Just remember that the pellets arrive in their dry state. You need to add a little water to get them slick again. Oh and don't forget to pick out any rodent bones...they will really foul up an action.2 points

Congratulations! I'm sure you'll love it. Well I hope you do anyway. I've been tempted by the 97BD several times, but just can't seem to buy. Don't really know why. lol But it is on my want list for someday.2 points

Seems they're throwing anything they can whip together at the wall to see what sticks. I can't imagine venison being a fast food item of consistent quality.2 points

My parents, brother in law and a family friend just built this for our family property. They put a good bit of time into it and I am extremely impressed. I can't wait to start spending some time in it. My brother and myself both have Becker Muscular Dystrophy, getting out in the woods is a little bit more difficult for us, but they are sure trying to help us out, can't them enough. For them to build this for us, we were both floored, its 8x10, has some good sized windows (still working on the actual windows), a little desk at each window and the ramp for us to get our butts in it. We hadn't used it just yet, but I am sure it will be put to good use in the coming months, get us a little heater in there, we'll be good to go! Hoping it will last a good while, I had to show it off. Also, we have had a few trespassers as of late unfortunately, one of them dropped a couple prescription bottles and the paperwork that came with them that had her address and phone number. If you know anyone named Delisha from the Moscow area, I am sure she's an outstanding citizen, but tell her we have her muscle relaxers, birth control paraphernalia and empty beer cans.2 points

Guys I think you'll enjoy this. I know I'm still fired up about it and it happened Sunday before last. I was sitting in my Viper about 20 feet up in a tree just enjoying watching the woods for any sign of deer. I happened to scan to my right and about 30 yards out I see something moving. I twist my head farther and my mouth dropped as I watched a bobcat stepping one step at a time, freezing as each step forward touched his paw to the ground. I watched him for about 10 yards doing the same thing, step, freeze, and repeat. He disappeared into some thicket and I waited to hear something squall as he ripped into it. I never heard anything so I sat there just replaying everything I saw since it was my first time seeing one in the woods. A few minutes went by, maybe 3 maybe 10, and I glanced back over to see him casually strolling back out the way he'd came in. No food in his mouth and not in a hurry by any means, just cool-catting along the 4 wheeler trail. I thought "HOLY CRAP I need to snap a picture of him before he's gone!". I grabbed my phone and as I started to raise it I changed my mind and decided to video just in case I scared him and could at least see him jump in the video. I'd planned to do a mouth call that I practice all the time just for that off chance that I may even need to use it. Thank God I'd done this for the 1 in a million chance haha. Just a little description of a few things to notice in the video. Watch the top of the screen when I zoom in, he's moving from left to right of the screen. I start with a high pitch and he didn't hear it or like it. I think he just didn't notice it right off. But when I changed the pitch to a deeper squall he immediately stopped and turned directly towards me. I literally could not believe it! Next, when he gets behind a green section of leaves and you can barely see him, he was less than 7 yards. I decided then that I wasn't sure what he'd do if I let him keep coming and I didn't want to have to decide as he climbed up the tree! My scent control must have been good and my face camo apparently sealed the deal. All that to say, I made the decision when he stopped there to move my body so he'd see me if he kept moving forward and it worked. Was that the smartest thing to do? Did I miss out on more awesome footage? Who knows but I honestly am more excited with this footage than if it'd been November 18th and I was able to harvest him. Although, what a hind story it would have to go with the mount! It was a beautiful cat and I'm glad to be able to share the footage with y'all. This was taken with an iPhone 6s Plus so it could have been a lot better video if I'd had an expensive camera but it turned out pretty good for a phone video. Enjoy!2 points

Ordered this holster the other day and it just came in. Now I have not put it through any paces yet but I wore it around the house all afternoon with shorts and a t-shirt and you could not tell I was carrying a G26. I even went out in the dark wearing it with my new flashlight (that's an entirely different thread LOL). It held everything well and felt good wearing it. I am a big guy (6'3", 285) so finding something that is comfortable can be tough. Also finding something that could be worn with a suit is really tough. Normally I just pocket carry a 380 or something but this will allow multiple options. http://www.brshooting.com/product/braveholster/ My first impression is very positive. Plus it is 100% USA made. I plan on giving it a good workout this weekend. I searched and didn't find anything about this on the forum so curious if anyone else has this and their thoughts.1 point

Last year, I foolishly let a Chinese MAK-90 in Sporter configuration pass me by at the gun show. I patiently waited well over a year for an opportunity to present itself and I found that opporunity last night on this very forum. A special thank you to johnnychimpo for answering my questions in a timely manner and for meeting me on such a short notice. I am overjoyed with the purchase of my rifle, but I am even happier to have met a local enthusiast.1 point

In all honestly, my stepson said it best when handling all four of my Hinderers this evening when I told him the price of them afterwards, he said he sees why they cost what they do as they are the only knife you will ever need and you can hand them down to many generations to come they are built that well1 point

Don't keep up with where the comic series is, but seems to me the writers may well have an end game for the series in mind. I mean now that the zeds have become for the most part just a major inconvenience and the real danger lies with other people, what evil can they posit that's gonna be more evil than Negan's outfit? Maybe the Democratic National Committee comes together again? But really, another season or two of Alexandria, Hilltop, The Kingdom, whatever, finally all coming together and defeating evil and setting up the New World and all like that and fade out. - OS1 point

Yes, the story compression necessary to fit most books into a 2hour or less movie is sometimes bad for the movie. But so far, I can't get too upset with Cruise's portrayal of Jack Reacher. My only problem is that having read all the books, I still think Tom is a midget version of Jack. lol1 point

I just installed my Blue Scale and traded Anodized Blue spacers from one of my XM24 knives, when you adjust the pivot just right, these knive honestly flip better than anything out there, this one is perfect in my book, I love it1 point

Just saw it. It started like the book but compressed the timeline and locations Then it went away from the book some (bad guys in New Orleans instead of LA so they could). It held closer to the book than I was expecting, but it is still a movie so they can only be so accurate to a 500 page book (unless you want a 6 hour movie.) Overall as a movie just by itself, I think it's pretty good. Good plot, acting, and action scenes. Few little bits were a little on the nose when you compare it to Child's writing, but most Americans would probably need it to understand what's happening.1 point

It is getting to be that time of the year. Last November I was heading west on I-40 and there around Cuba Landing just east of the TN river some ole boy was pulled off in the median cutting the backstrap out of a fresh one.1 point

Venison steaks are not easy to get tender. They should not be cooked past medium rare in a thick piece like in the picture. I have a feeling this is not going to be a hit. I will try it though.1 point

I too loved the old style Lee Autoprime and used them for about 25 years. Hated the "new" design... So I went with the RCBS Universal around 2 years ago and only wish I had done so sooner. Excellent priming tool imho.1 point

Keep an eye on the Primary Arms website. The Magpul Hunter 700 goes on sale periodically. My buddy and I both picked up one with magwell and sling mounts during one of the sales. Total price for everything was only about $10 more than the everyday price for the stock. It did seem to tighten up everything a little on my 700 sps tactical. As for the Vortex, I guess I am one of the few that hasn't been thrilled with my Viper, at least not the warranty. Initially it was awesome, great clarity, performed as expected and was a great price. After a particularlly cold hunt it developed a haze on the outer edge at the higher magnifications. Sent it back to Vortex with description of issue and included pics just to be sure. When I got it back, the invoice stated all they did was cleaned the lens and that the haze was normal as scopes age (3yrs old). I guess I could have gotten a lazy tech working on my scope but I wasn't that impressed. I may try sending it back one more time just to see. Or I could do what my buddy suggested and drive over it with my jeep and then send it back lol.1 point

I won't give any possible spoilers but if the show follows the comics then some people will love it and some will hate it. Either way, based solely on what has happened on the show, itself I think it is safe to say that this season marks the turning point between, "how do we survive the zombie apocalypse" and "okay, we've mostly got the short term surviving zombies thing down so now how do we survive each other and begin to truly rebuild for the long term?" I expect the zombies to still play an important 'role' but the 'role' they will play will likely be very different going forward. On The Talking Dead they mentioned that some people are calling this premier and the upcoming season a sort of 'reset' for the show. I think that sounds about right. I also think it is a good idea and not only because that follows the source material. I think it is good for the possible continued longevity of the show because it serendipitously comes at a time when the whole zombie craze is dying down (pun intended) in our society. As the fad wanes I suspect that a 'zombie show' would be cancelled pretty soon but a show with strong story lines about people and how they not only survive but begin coming back from the brink of destruction that happens to also have zombies might make it. Further, I think those who say, "But it is a show about zombies," are and have always been wrong. It is a show about people surviving in a world where society as we know it no longer exists and just happens to have been destroyed by zombies. There is a huge difference. Yeah, the show is called The Walking Dead but remember that, in the context of the show, 'the walking dead' doesn't refer to the zombies (or 'walkers'.) Instead 'the walking dead' refers to the survivors, just as in a speech that Rick made to the others several seasons back when he described their situation by telling them, "We are the walking dead," (see the clip below.) So even the title of the show refers to the survivors doing whatever it takes to live and not the zombies. Anyhow, if the story takes the direction I think it will then some people - those who just find a story about surviving and rebuilding after a TEOTWAWKI event interesting and who still like zombies as part of that story - will like it. Those who just want a show purely or mostly about fighting zombies likely will not.1 point

Thank you both. I won't lie; October has not been a fun month for me because of the issues we've been having here. Thankfully we seem to be on the other side of that now and the server is performing very well. Just in time for the election! Thanks for sticking with me and with TGO while I worked through it.1 point

Saturday, October 22, 2016 @ 2:30PM Central Welcome back! Today I moved us to a brand new dedicated web server with an entirely different web hosting company. Hopefully this is the start of a better situation for TGO and we can finally put the server performance woes of October behind us. I have done very minimal performance tuning to this new server out of the gate, preferring to see how it performs with a plain vanilla configuration. Tweaks and tuning may prove to be necessary in the days ahead but, if so, they will be done incrementally so that I can measure their effectiveness. If you see slowness at any time, do not panic. I am logging performance data every minute and reviewing it daily to see what bottlenecks might exist and develop strategies to correct them. All you need to do at this point is sit back, use TGO, and enjoy the community. Of course if you notice any glaring problems, please do report them via in the Feedback and Support forum. I will address them as soon as I can. Lastly... Tapatalk... The new server should be more than adequate to the task of running Tapatalk. I will try to re-introduce it in a few days. I really do want to monitor the performance of things without it for a while just to formulate a baseline. Having a good baseline without Tapatalk will be critical to addressing any performance hit from running Tapatalk later. Please just be patient with me. I'll give it another shot as soon as we've had a few days of regular use under our belt. Thanks for being patient with me and with TGO over the past few weeks. I hope the weeks ahead make us forget all about the run of bad luck that we had. --David1 point

The only "AR10" I had was a for-real KAC Mk11 that I suppose was sold as a run-off for far too much money than I care to admit to, it was an excellent platform and a lot of damn fun, but for the money it better have damn well been. Now - for straight off the shelf AR10s, I have not owned, but I have fired, is the Armalite AR-10 VSR, it was about 1700 if I remember correctly and felt very good, .308 I suppose you can say is a bit of a stouter cartridge for perceived (notice, Perceived, it is different for all) recoil impulse versus .223/5.56 - but it felt very nice. Good balance, good tight fit between the lower and upper, the trigger was crisp and using ZQI M80 Ball copy was very capable at 200m. Building an AR10 you will be hard pressed to be able to keep prices as low as just buying a complete unit - I say that because sourcing in stock parts is a major PITA - if you are patient, and can catch sales from CTD, PSA, and other websites you can piece one together but the overall cost to include shipping will add up to be more. Musicman, and others mentioned, it is not as easy as throwing together a Frankenstein AR-15 - where you can literally jump into a trash bin of mixed manufactured parts, and assemble a working rifle - the AR-10 has compatibility issues for fitment among other things, and a lot of manufacturers don't really sell components. For instance, your PSA or 80% Lower might not work with a LaRue upper, or whomever else you choose - being conscience of what you choose, and who you source the part from is just as important as safely building the weapon. Hence my point in the 3rd paragraph; try to find a distributor with a part in stock at a good bargain you are liable to drive yourself crazy. Like with any other weapon system, there are also ammo sensitivity issues and the general 'spunk' of your AR-10 that need to be overcome. My Mk 11 as amazing as it was would have trouble with FTEs any surplus ammo, not sure if it was soft brass, but as tight as the gun was it would choke on spam can South African ammo. I would pierce primers of American Eagle 308s and in general it would only fire 'premium' grade offerings where as ZQI was the only notable objection to that rule. The AR-10 platform hasn't been widely adopted for a reason but do NOT let that detract you from partaking in one, and enjoying it. Once you understand the niches, and what it likes/hates, there are plenty of great rifles from DPMS, SW, Armalite, LaRue, etc1 point

I have an M&P10 and love it. Only mod I made was to drop a CMC 3.5lb single stage flat trigger in it. It's right at an MOA gun with off the shelf ammo in my hands, probably much better with a better shooter and tailored ammo. I will eventually change out the stupid round handguards and go free float, though. As others have said, building an ar10 is NOT as easy as an ar15. Too many variances to assure everything fits. You will have a VERY hard time saving any money while also trying to build a .308 that works. As much as I don't like DPMS, the G2 is a really good design and worth a look as well.1 point
