Just finished this on Netflix and holy crap what an excellent film. It tells the story of an Irish unit deployed (and hung out to dry) on a UN peacekeeping mission during the Congo Crisis of 1961. It also has lots of wonderful FAL goodness.2 points

My parents, brother in law and a family friend just built this for our family property. They put a good bit of time into it and I am extremely impressed. I can't wait to start spending some time in it. My brother and myself both have Becker Muscular Dystrophy, getting out in the woods is a little bit more difficult for us, but they are sure trying to help us out, can't them enough. For them to build this for us, we were both floored, its 8x10, has some good sized windows (still working on the actual windows), a little desk at each window and the ramp for us to get our butts in it. We hadn't used it just yet, but I am sure it will be put to good use in the coming months, get us a little heater in there, we'll be good to go! Hoping it will last a good while, I had to show it off. Also, we have had a few trespassers as of late unfortunately, one of them dropped a couple prescription bottles and the paperwork that came with them that had her address and phone number. If you know anyone named Delisha from the Moscow area, I am sure she's an outstanding citizen, but tell her we have her muscle relaxers, birth control paraphernalia and empty beer cans.2 points

Guys I think you'll enjoy this. I know I'm still fired up about it and it happened Sunday before last. I was sitting in my Viper about 20 feet up in a tree just enjoying watching the woods for any sign of deer. I happened to scan to my right and about 30 yards out I see something moving. I twist my head farther and my mouth dropped as I watched a bobcat stepping one step at a time, freezing as each step forward touched his paw to the ground. I watched him for about 10 yards doing the same thing, step, freeze, and repeat. He disappeared into some thicket and I waited to hear something squall as he ripped into it. I never heard anything so I sat there just replaying everything I saw since it was my first time seeing one in the woods. A few minutes went by, maybe 3 maybe 10, and I glanced back over to see him casually strolling back out the way he'd came in. No food in his mouth and not in a hurry by any means, just cool-catting along the 4 wheeler trail. I thought "HOLY CRAP I need to snap a picture of him before he's gone!". I grabbed my phone and as I started to raise it I changed my mind and decided to video just in case I scared him and could at least see him jump in the video. I'd planned to do a mouth call that I practice all the time just for that off chance that I may even need to use it. Thank God I'd done this for the 1 in a million chance haha. Just a little description of a few things to notice in the video. Watch the top of the screen when I zoom in, he's moving from left to right of the screen. I start with a high pitch and he didn't hear it or like it. I think he just didn't notice it right off. But when I changed the pitch to a deeper squall he immediately stopped and turned directly towards me. I literally could not believe it! Next, when he gets behind a green section of leaves and you can barely see him, he was less than 7 yards. I decided then that I wasn't sure what he'd do if I let him keep coming and I didn't want to have to decide as he climbed up the tree! My scent control must have been good and my face camo apparently sealed the deal. All that to say, I made the decision when he stopped there to move my body so he'd see me if he kept moving forward and it worked. Was that the smartest thing to do? Did I miss out on more awesome footage? Who knows but I honestly am more excited with this footage than if it'd been November 18th and I was able to harvest him. Although, what a hind story it would have to go with the mount! It was a beautiful cat and I'm glad to be able to share the footage with y'all. This was taken with an iPhone 6s Plus so it could have been a lot better video if I'd had an expensive camera but it turned out pretty good for a phone video. Enjoy!2 points

The first few weeks produced no action at all. I had fox, groundhogs, squirrel, and raccoons. all over me, but no coyote or deer. It all changed last weekend. During the morning hunt a coyote walks in and lays down at fifty yards. I lip squeak several times but he could have cared less. A small doe walks right up on the coyote and they both about jump out of their hides. The coyote moves away from me and the doe walks right to me. She and all other doe get free passes. I like to use them come November That evening a small doe comes running through the thick stuff and stops right in front of me. Mr. Coyote was right behind her, and once again he went the other way. A small buck comes in just after that, but he was way too young to even think about taking. Now I typically don't come out of the stand till after dark, bumping critters that just start moving when the sun goes down is a no no. And sure enough I hear one moving right behind me. I looked down, and there in the moon light stands big daddy. He winds me and jumps back in the brush and then slowly walks away. Now I couldn't see him in detail but the light colored rack in the moon light looked really big. Can't wait for ML season now.2 points

I watched it a couple of weeks ago and it was captivating. The firearms and props appear to be period correct and the storylines really good. After I finished watching it I spent the next couple of days researching it online which was very worthwhile. I've always been a fan of the Carl Gustav m/45 and Vickers HMG which are very prominent in this film. Its interesting how the Irish Army of hat period had a hodgepodge of Enfield rifles, FN/FAL's. Swedish K SMG and the Vickers HMG. They just used what they already had and the little that they could afford.2 points

Thanks Slappy, it's good to have family and friends that come out to our land, I've invited others, some just don't seem interested, oh well. We really are enjoying it! Will keep you updated for sure if we have any success.1 point

Well if we are getting into particulars, the day I got married in Gatlinburg, that very night I was arrested in Alaska and jailed the whole time we honeymooned in Hawaii, which was 10 years after I supposedly bought $5k of electronics there. I have way more skills than I ever thought. LOL1 point

When these were first made they shot a rimfire cartridge. Thats why you see two firing pin holes in the pic below. However, with the adoption of the 8mm M1889 Krag-Jorgensen the need to update or abandon the Remington design became acute. In 1896 they were withdrawn from infantry service, converted to centerfire cartridge and issued to coast and fortress artillerymen. This rifle was made in 1882 and converted to 11.7x51 somewhere around 1896-1897.1 point

Ditto. It's just too perfect for my current work schedule. Throw everything in, turn it on, then come home to a fantastic smelling house with a hearty meal ready to go. This is my current favorite Crock-Pot meal(s). Takes all of five minutes to prep, with your crock pot doing all the work. Ingredients Needed to make 2x Man Size Servings 10.5oz can of condensed cream of chicken (I always use Campbell's) 1/2 can of salsa (or about a cups worth if you're a measurement Nazi) 1/2 packet of taco seasoning Up to 4x boneless skinless chicken breasts 1x large scoop of sour cream Cooking Instructions Place all of the ingredients except for the sour cream into the crock pot, and get it mixed up. Place the pot on low. When your chicken is cooked, and your cream of chicken mixes with the salsa, there should be a dark orange look to it. Mix in the sour cream, and the orange should start to brighten up. Turn off the heat if you like to let it cool, or serve it piping hot. The chicken will be fantastic. The salsa and seasoning you pick will determine the level of heat the overall meal has unless you want to add anything else to give it a kick. So if you like things spicy, get a really hot salsa. Goes well over white rice, or with any form of potato. A variation I like is to use only 2x chicken breasts, chopped up into small pieces before cooking, and serving it all as a soup with shredded cheese on top and tortilla chips as a lunch to tide me over before a big dinner.1 point

Thanks to divotmaker on here, I picked up an X95 this morning. Was up in the air on buying a bolt .338 gun over the past few weeks, then this little nugget popped up in the classifieds. No major mods going on it, drop in a trigger pack, pop on some optics and get a gas seal. yay.1 point

My thought is that those folks who just wanted to hold on to what life used to be like either: 1. Got eaten because they couldn't bring themselves to put a bullet in mama's brain once she turned. 2. Couldn't take the new reality and ate their gun 3. Eventually took a permanent vacation from themselves and became 'someone else' (like the Governor - psychopath #1 - who was a nice if weak guy before the apocalypse and ended up adopting his less-nice, tougher, dead brother's persona) 4. Took the approach that Rick et al, have taken in accepting that they can't have things that way right now but if they make it through at first then maybe they can have some of those things back later. I think the problem becomes that, after a point, they can't go back to the way they were even if everything else suddenly went back to 'normal'. After all, if you really look at it, even the main group of protagonists are not exactly well balanced or even very 'heroic' at this point. Personally, I don't think that Negan is a psychopath. Some of his Saviors definitely are but he isn't. That is what makes him such an interesting character. A psychopath has the excuse that he/she doesn't really grasp 'right and wrong'. I think that Negan does but that he, ironically, has adopted the same approach that Rick has adopted - do whatever it takes to survive. Many of his non-psychopathic Saviors have, as well. Dale held on to who he had been and Dale died. Tyreese held on to who he had been and Tyreese died. Herschel held on to who he had been and Herschel died. Heck, it says right there in their name that the Saviors seem to think that they are 'saving' what is left of the world. Even bashing in the heads of a couple of members of Rick's group could be seen as his idea of 'serving the greater good'. After all, I think Negan is also a brilliant strategist who knows what makes people tick and (from his viewpoint) if he can set an example by doing something horrific and terrifying to a couple of people - even if it is something that would have made his former self sick to even contemplate - then maybe he won't have to kill the rest of the group and there can be a more or less peaceful future between them. He says as much right before the Saviors leave at the end of the premier with his, "We did it. Together. Even the dead guys," speech about it having been a 'productive' day. The Saviors don't think they are the 'bad guys' because there are no 'bad guys' and there are no 'good guys' - there are only those who survive and those who don't. Remember Rick saying to his group, when they first came to Alexandria, that if the Alexandrians tried to make them leave then they would take Alexandria from them by force? Remember Rick running that 'cop' down and killing him to keep him from going back to the group that had Beth? That sounds a whole lot more like Negan than it sounds like 'officer friendly' Rick from the first season. Negan is just willing to take the idea of 'anything to survive' further than Rick will (maybe.) The biggest difference - aside from the obvious 'cold blooded' factor of the Negan/Lucille scene - is that we see things largely through Rick's eyes and so, just as Rick does, we can often justify his actions based on his point of view even when other, still mostly 'normal' people are looking at him with shock and horror. There are currently only two semi-long term members of the group who have behaved in sort of the manner you describe. Those members are the reverend (who was shocked and horrified when Rick and his group put the Terminus people on their knees and bashed their heads in - hey, that kinda sounds familiar except they didn't let any of the Terminus folks live) and Morgan during his 'hippie' phase - and we pretty much hated both of them until they got with the program and started killing.1 point

Wonder if there's a "psychopaths per square mile" statistic in the Walking Dead universe. I totally get that society has broken down but man...it's hard to fathom that "most" folks wouldn't yurn to hold on to some scrap of what life used to be like. But in that show you can't walk 10 feet without coming across some lunatic.1 point

Why? Because they can. Actually it's almost that simple. Give any group the power to levy taxes, and the tax revenue sources will be found. If it just happens to be something a specialized group likes or wants, all the better. Tax them for the privilege. They won't grip, and if they do...so what. The politicos have the power. We don't.1 point

Saturday, October 22, 2016 @ 2:30PM Central Welcome back! Today I moved us to a brand new dedicated web server with an entirely different web hosting company. Hopefully this is the start of a better situation for TGO and we can finally put the server performance woes of October behind us. I have done very minimal performance tuning to this new server out of the gate, preferring to see how it performs with a plain vanilla configuration. Tweaks and tuning may prove to be necessary in the days ahead but, if so, they will be done incrementally so that I can measure their effectiveness. If you see slowness at any time, do not panic. I am logging performance data every minute and reviewing it daily to see what bottlenecks might exist and develop strategies to correct them. All you need to do at this point is sit back, use TGO, and enjoy the community. Of course if you notice any glaring problems, please do report them via in the Feedback and Support forum. I will address them as soon as I can. Lastly... Tapatalk... The new server should be more than adequate to the task of running Tapatalk. I will try to re-introduce it in a few days. I really do want to monitor the performance of things without it for a while just to formulate a baseline. Having a good baseline without Tapatalk will be critical to addressing any performance hit from running Tapatalk later. Please just be patient with me. I'll give it another shot as soon as we've had a few days of regular use under our belt. Thanks for being patient with me and with TGO over the past few weeks. I hope the weeks ahead make us forget all about the run of bad luck that we had. --David1 point

No. Not exactly. Went to make my final payment and the sales guy was telling me they just got some new and improved Molot VEPRs with square backs and improved riveted bullet guides (All mainly RPK components) in 5.45. He really sold me on it so I kinda changed layaway to the Molot VEPR 5.45. It should be here Friday. I've also picked up a PSA AK-47 Gen 2 (all American made AK. See AK Operator's Union on YouTube to see it go through a 5k round torture test) that's I've striped of it's plastic furniture and am currently working on the wood furniture for it. Next on my list is the C39 Micro pistol and the PBS-1 Wolverine can.1 point

You may own and carry any type or length knife in TN these days. I'll leave all the suggestions to others. I have only two switchblades any more, one high end custom TGO branded Pro Tech purchased through group buy here (~$240) and a low end Taiwan made Boker ($40). Of course one is much purtier, has a more esoteric steel, and is likely to hold up much longer than the other (or be quickly fixed by the maker), but both function well and are plenty sharp to cut what needs cutting. Neither has a "safety", but neither is at all likely to open in a pocket. I mainly bought the fancy one to commemorate the change in TN knife laws, it's too damn nice to carry. And really, though they are cool, they don't really open any quicker than nice assisted ones anyway, so I'm certainly not an auto snob. I'm sure there are any number of models under a c-note that would tickle you pink. - OS1 point

For a knock around gun that his father bought him on 18th birthday, I'd suggest a Ruger Security Six of some flavor. Nice but not so nice to be scared of actually using it.1 point
