  1. ...it will work. I like my Ontario RAT 5 pretty well. I don't like the oversized, behemoth of a tacticool nylon sheath that came with it all that much. I think that maybe Ontario makes one sheath to go with several, different knives of different lengths. Along those lines, I decided to try making a leather sheath for it. Leather work is just one of my hobbies and I just make things for myself or to give to family/friends. Having not made that many knife sheaths and having not made a sheath or gun holster for a couple of years I realized during this process how many previously learned things I had forgotten. Also, this is the first time I have really tried adding a welt. I don't usually need them for the type of pistol holsters I have made and have even made a knife sheath or two that didn't need them (until the last one I made that, as it turns out, did need one - meaning that I sliced the sheath with the knife.) This is also the first time I have tried adding a ferro rod holder to a leather sheath (I have done them with a couple of kydex sheaths - one that I made for my Mora and one to fit the factory sheath for a Gerber - Bear Grylls paracord handled knife.) The result of doing these new things for the first time as well as forgetting some of the things I should have known to do (until it was too late) is that this isn't as cosmetically nice as it could have been. Still, it works great and I like it a whole lot better than the factory sheath. I do kind of like the pouch on the factory sheath but didn't want the added bulk on this, particular one. The ferro rod is just a Coughland's rod from Academy. I put a fatwood handle on it after the factory handle came off. It has a little retention without the snap strap. Not a lot - it will fall out if I shake the sheath but will stay in if I just hold it upside down (I use a combination of shoe polish and regular leather dyes on many of mine and that is what is still on my hands in the picture - I had just finished the sheath): Here it is with the original sheath: And this one kind of shows how much too big the original is and how much closer in size the one I made is: The funny thing is that, because of the mistakes I made, I think the sheath kind of looks like I have been carrying it for years even though it was still part of a big piece of raw leather a little more than twelve hours before these pictures were taken. I wish I had not made the mistakes but must admit that I am kind of a fan of the 'worn in' look. Also, I decided to rivet the snap strap to the sheath instead of sewing it down so that the strap could move around a little and so I can reverse the snap position in case I decide I want to do so.

  4. I also have this gun. It's a nice little suppressor host and I as well have had no issues out of it. I am not a "plastic" gun guy, but I do like the M&P line. I have the full size 9mm, Shield 9mm, and this. Happy with all of them. If someone is looking for a more full size equivalent 22, the Sig/GSG 1911-22 is an excellent option. I have one along with 4 or 5 other friends and not a single issue out of them for any of us. The Mosquito sucked unless you were only shooting MiniMags, but the 1911-22 shoots anything I feed it.

  6. Most stuff on the interwebs that sounds too good to be true usually is. But my buddy had one of these flashlights with him over the weekend. At his house we had a field of view, probably 250-300 meters to the woodline from his deck and this el cheapo thing lit up about a 20 foot spot brighter than any flash light I had seen before. This thing is no joke kind of blind people you point it at bright. If you ever have a need for spotlighting, get one of these. I just ordered one for myself after seeing it in person. These lights are legit and only $29 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ANGPD66/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  7. I was in western Nebraska yesterday, just a little south of Scottsbluff. I didn't realize there were moose in the area, from a distance I thought it was a loose horse.

  9. Wifey got me an early birthday present, an M&P22 Compact! This is the newer, smaller, in-house designed M&P22, not the full size made by Umarex a few years ago. This is the suppressor ready model with the adapter included. I don't have a can yet, but it's on the list! I'm already an M&P fan, and this fits in the family just perfectly. It feels very much like my PC Shield, just a smidge bigger. The trigger is nice and crisp, if a touch heavy... feels like about 6-7lbs. You've got the normal takeup which is smooth and light, then it stacks, and then a clean and consistent break. Sights are your average 3 dot configuration, fully adjustable rear. The sights on mine were dead on out of the box. A nice, small cluster right in the bullseye with my first magazine through the gun. Yesterday our church had "Bullets and BBQ", a get together of about 30 people at one member's farm for shootin' and grillin'. It was my first time shooting the M&P, and it was a trial by fire! I didn't even have a chance to clean the gun first, having just gotten it. I used it for all the new shooters. We had about a dozen people who had never shot a gun before, and they all started with the little M&P. Not a single hiccup in over 600 rounds of cheap American Eagle, Aguila, and Federal bulk pack ammo. This is my third semi-auto .22, and the first to accomplish this feat of wonder! I had an SR22 that I had for a few weeks that never made it through a single magazine without an ftf or fte (multiple cleanings, multiple ammo types) and an old first gen Walther P22 that was pretty good, but would usually choke 2-3 times in a range trip. This little Smith impresses the heck out of me. Everything about it exudes high quality. All the controls feel firm and accurate. From the actuation of the ambi-safety, the release of the slide stop, the mag release, trigger, and even down to the heft and quality of the 2 included magazines, this is an incredibly well-done little pistol. It doesn't feel like a .22... doesn't seem like a "starter gun", which is why it's such a great starter gun! Everyone who shot it loved it, even the more experienced firearm enthusiasts who were there. I generally don't like safeties on my plastic guns, but for the role this gun plays for me, it's perfect. When teaching a 9 year old who has never held a gun how to shoot, it's nice to keep that safety on until they're on target and ready to squeeze the trigger! Anywho, I'm please as punch with it. If any of you out there are in the market for a plinker (and I don't wanna hear the whining about 22 ammo... it's available now. Not for two cents a round, but for 6 and 7. Your excuse is invalid!) or are maybe a little unhappy with the function/reliability of your current 22, I highly recommend you check out the M&P 22 Compact! My buddy Jonathan approves!

  10. I'll post a pic once mine gets in, that photo they are showing on the page is not an exaggeration. Maybe a little bit more fog than we had... well, I'll just show you a picture. If it had a wider dispersement, you could literally use it as a search light from a helo from lower altitudes.

  12. But then you realized it wasn't a loose horse. It was a loose moose. (Somebody had to take advantage of that rhyme!) Great pictures. Be careful. I hear that hitting those things can really mess up a car (and the driver/passengers for that matter.)

  16. As others have stated, I doubt prices will get any lower. If you are concerned about the future availability of an AR, I would go ahead and get a decent one now instead of a cheap bottom of the bucket one. Put off any other gun purchase and get a good AR.

  17. I read about the LCPII earlier in the week and have been trying to visualize how much larger it is in comparison to the LCP. The "shorter, improved trigger" sounds interesting but the rest might be gilding the lily.

  21. "QUOTE" Sure it’s possible but with the recent SCOTUS rulings, unlikely. It's unlikely at present time but if Hildebeast gets elected and begins appointing Supreme Court Justices how much longer will the original decisions hold up might be a question to think about..........................jmho

  23. One (of several) reasons for that is the range closure on Saturdays for matches during the not-sucky-weather months. I get that one of the missions of the club is to promote the shooting sports through matches, and I support that, but that's not something that interests me right now. Saturdays are often the only days I have the time to shoot and it's closed unless I want to compete, which I don't. I only get out there a few times a year because of that. It would be great if the new range could accommodate most of, or at least some of, the matches without having to shut the whole thing down.
