I never cease to be amused (...not amazed... i'm too old for that..) at the lengths that some of our brothers and sisters here go to justify the actions of a bunch of hoodlums.. The fact of the matter is that this guy was a damned hoodlum... He and his wife or girlfriend were sittin in a public place and he branished a gun to a couple of cops that pulled up on unrelated business... He paid the price this idiotic (...and unlawful...) behavior and for disregarding repeated commands to drop a firearm... My guess is that if he had have listened to the police and his wife, he would be here today... He aint... You that think this recently deceased citizen was unjustly put upon need to think about this... Channon Christian and Chris Newsome pulled into an apartment complex some years ago and were kidnapped, brutalized, and murdered in the worst kidnap-murder ever committed (...that we know of...) in Tennessee history; and that's since 1796... They committed no crime that we know of; but there were hoodlums and savages sittin there and grabbed them up... Maybe someone should have checked on their killers... In case ya think that aint important, just think a bit and insert your loved ones names into that situation; and you will more clearly understand why this policing and "law and order" thing is so important... It deters or prevents crime... All kinds of it, from the most heinous to the most innocuous that most folks quibble about the most... RE: Back to the issue at hand... You, me, nor anyone else; except maybe the wife or girlfriend, knows for sure why they were sittin there... My bet is that it wasn't to go to a bible study or to comfort a sick friend... The fact is that you, me, nor anyone else will ever know the truth of this matter... The libertarians and free spirits among us seem to think that anytime the police ask a question, make a contact, or even shoot a hoodlum; it's somehow an "unjust stop and question".... On the one hand, everybody wants to be safe, on the other hand the police are the oppressive enemy... It is amazing, indeed... The truth of the matter is that police are under attack everywhere... They are edgy and nervous; and they well should be... All that bein said; anyone who is approached by LE should pay attention... Failure to do so could cause you to assume room temperature... The truth is that the police have "police power" and they can detain you and ask you questions.... They can also defend themselves if they think you are a threat to them or someone else... They can even shoot you for tryin to run away, if they deem you a threat to themselves or others... You all are gonna have to accept that unpleasant truth... There are plenty of ways for citizens to voice their grievances in court for an "unjust stop"... There ain't any way to undo a shooting for failure to comply with police commands to drop a weapon... The "police oppression" jhadists in the black community are lookin for one thing, and one thing only... They want a different protocol for approaching black suspects than for the rest of us other citizens; or even a "pass" for criminal activity... More than that, there are folks in the black community who are tryin to do the right thing that have stood up and said that many of these protesters are paid outsiders... My... My... I wonder why that is...? Could it be that someone or something is trying to stir up trouble...?... The truth of the matter is; i think, that there are some folks in very responsible and powerful position in this country that want a "South Africa" attitude where some folks are allowed to run wild and commit crime as long as the "right folks" are wronged... They give lip service to "law and order", but are ok with killin, stealin, and law breakin, as long as it's directed at whitey or some other out of favor group that's victimized.... You that side with this sort of foolishness need to think about that a bit and do some readin about what is goin on in South Africa... It's horrifying... The fact of the matter is that you are gonna have to have law and order, with all it's real and perceived injusties and inconveniences for potential malefactors; or you are gonna have no law at all...There is nothin in between the two choices... I doubt that even the most hardy of the "victim's advocates" and "unjust stop" jhadists among us want the latter... Your mileage on this issue may vary... non carin leroy... the dismissive "law and order" geezer3 points

Hope nobody minds, but the only hunt I have done up here in Alaska is a Caribou hunt and I got a nice one, well at least I think it is, I have to thank DaveS (dad) and Rob for getting me into hunting Ive had some great times hunting with you guys in the past. This is the result of a long hike in, 5 miles in and out, but well worth it. There were 3 of us hunting and we all got a caribou within 15 sec of each other. Used my newly built Mega Arms Maten .308, one shot to the neck and he went down hard. And for anyone who wants to know the meat taste just like deer . Now the worst part waiting a full year to get my mount back from Knights Taxidermy (amazing place, super nice owner and very helpful/friendly). I hope this pic gets DaveS and Rob up here to hunt and fish soon!!3 points

Thats understandable. I don't like to think of myself as a hoarder. My goal is to one day have about 10,000 rounds of any caliber ready to go. I have about 7k of various 22. 3k of 9mm and a lot less in my rifle calibers. I just buy what I can when I can knowing one day it won't be available and I'll still be able to take my usual range trips.2 points

I will give it a chance. Did you like 24 or Blacklist? They aren't realistic either, but they are both great shows (at least for me). I don't read too much into a TV show. That's what it is, a "show".2 points

Yeah, I was told the same thing when I tried last year. Sure hate this is happening. The facilities were great. One of my fondest memories of the club and the range involve my first bowling pin match with my BHP. It wasn't pretty. Then doing a "jungle walk" later in the day. It sure was a fun time.2 points

Prefect. Is it not threaded now at all? Doesn't matter either way just if it's threaded 1/2x28 or 36 we'd have to cut it back a bit. No difference in price just asking. Threading would be $65. Shipping I'd expect USPS priority small box would be fine. Right around $7 base+ couple dollars depending on what you were confortable with insurance wise. Turn around 3-4 days at most. I don't have a problem with baiting from an ethical standpoint. I think it's smart if you were really needing the food and trying to maximize your effort. I mean who wouldn't hunt near an apple tree? Ethically speaking, does the deer know if the apples fell from a tree or were placed on the ground by a hunter? However, baiting is illegal, and I have no tollerance for hunters that break the rules. Been on the waiting list for two years as of this next week. Stinks the wait will probably lengthen, but maybe a site will be found that can accommodate more members.1 point

Well said Leroy. So my brother had to go to Charlotte since he is a Sergeant in the prison system in NC. They were told to do nothing but try and keep things peaceful. His reply when I sent a text asking how things were..... "Not good had lieutenant Stabbed in neck and sergeant stabbed in stomach numerous times and both had to be airlifted, 2 more officers beat severely with broom handles and were taken by ambulance. Not a good day at all, just getting home." I have no further comments other than enough is enough. Acting like these thugs are not domestic terrorists is truly sad. The PC agenda has reached a place that something has to give. I don't care if your white, black, green, yellow, conservative, liberal, Christian, Muslim, Atheist or whatever. Unfortunately things will probably get much uglier before any signs of improvement.1 point

Knocked that outta the park, Leroy. Comments could be made on the minutia but that's the problem today. People simply cannot see the forest for the trees.1 point

Good stuff. I've always thought this should be required reading for Garand owners: https://archive.org/details/How_to_Shoot_the_US_Army_Rifle Look for the .pdf on that page. I printed it out and had it bound; it's that good.1 point

You guys need to read the stories in the links. He was seen rolling a blunt, given a pass then he was observed with a gun. That alone with no other facts is enough to make contact. The fact that he was a felon in possession of a gun is probably the reason he did not comply with the LEOs, that and the fact that he MAY of had some mental defect. He could have been a minister or priest under the initial reason for the contact and I would of still supported LEO making contact and reacting in the same way if said minister/priest acted in the same manner. You guys are just making things difficult by trying to make this into something which it is not. Just like the rioters, you guys are picking the wrong case/individual to try and support. There are plenty of cases where LEO is either totally in the wrong, or just made bad choices, this is just not one of those cases.1 point

Ummmmm.... lets just say I TOTALLY AGREE with your sentiment, however I've seen the wife's video, and somewhere's between the 2nd and 9th time the cop said "DROP THE GUN", I would have complied, obviating the need for the officer to discharge his firearm. Just sayin.. - K1 point

I'm updated this thread because most people switch cable providers and this will help them make a better decision. I called Comcast about the slow speed. I got someone in India reading from a script. Literally... it was almost laughable. Me: I'm having a problem with my router. It's slow. Rep: How can I help you today? Me: I'm having a problem with my router, it's slow. Rep: I'm sorry to hear you are having a problem. What is the problem? Me: I'm having a problem with my router. It's too slow Rep: I'm sorry to hear you are having a problem with your router. What is the problem? After 20 minutes she finally transferred me to a tech guy who spoke unaccented English and diagnosed the problem quickly. The Arris Gateway router/modem being sold at Best Buy is NOT the latest model used by Comcast. He suggested that I either rent their router/modem or get a separate router and modem. Separate units are better than the combined units. I thought that was good, unbiased advice. Score so far... Bad Service 1 Good Service 1 I went to Xfinity in Cool Springs and rented the new model for $10/month. The wait was 4 minutes and the process of getting it was... not kidding... less than 2 minutes. What great customer service! Score Good service 2, Bad Service 1 I got home and hooked it up. My wife's Wifi speed jumped from 42 to 146Mbps, but my older laptop couldn't get online! I stayed online with customer service for 91 minutes and finally gave up because I needed to be somewhere. Score Good service 2, bad 2. I assumed it might be a problem with my 4 year old laptop, so I ordered a Netgear AC600 USB wifi adapter for $23 on Amazon. When it arrived, I installed its software and then connected it. Checking this morning, I'm getting 156 Mbps download speed on wifi. I'm satisfied with the speed, but I'm disappointed that my webpages aren't loading 4x faster. After all, my download speed is 4x faster. I'd say that web page loading is maybe 25-50% faster. Again, I'm guessing it must be my old laptop, so I ordered a new one from Dell. It should arrive today. When I returned the Arris Gateway to Best Buy, they were very nice about taking it back after the 14 day return had expired. I explained that comcast had been delayed two weeks in installing my new system so I had only had it working for 5 days before returning it. Again, I talked to a tech guy at Best Buy who suggested the best choice for best speed would be a separate router and modem. He recommended the Asus RT-AC1900P router ($175) and the Arris Surfboard SB6190 modem ($135). Since that's $310 or nearly $340 after tax, I decided to stay with the rental router/modem from Xfinity for $10/month, since I get free support and can replace it free when a newer model comes out.1 point

I have joined this forum initially to simply read this thread... initially. I then realised what a supportive and wonderful bunch of guys you all, pushing into new territory particularly for rifle bullets. I'm casting for a 243, 90 grain cast bullet, and given a 243 relies massively on it's BC it's motivated me to make my own molds and powdercoat using the laquer thinner method. I have recently seen people dumping the hot bullets out of the oven back into water i just wondered what you all thought of that. I will definitely post my results! Thank you all so much on your persistence getting this to work! Did anyone work out a good alloy for around 3000fps for hunting? Cheers!1 point

I'm into my 3rd season of coaching in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program http://sssfonline.org/scholastic-pistol-program-spp/ . So here's my and that's about all it's worth because it's purely my opinion based on the past two years of dealing with rimfire guns used by our team. All but one of our team members compete in the rimfire discipline. The dominate rimfire pistols in order Ruger Mk II, Mk III, Buckmark (1 UDX and 1URX) M&P 22 and just recently a S&W Victory. I base this order on the fact that by SASP rule: 2. Due to the misfire/jamming issues generally associated with rimfire, a competitor will be allowed one (1) “Mulligan” per stage if the issue is related to ammo/gun failure. When using the “Mulligan”, the shooter will be allowed to reshoot the string in which the incident occurred. It will be the responsibility of the competitor or coach to request the “Mulligan”. We have experienced fewer reshoots with Ruger pistols. Myself and one other coach have become fairly proficient in reassembling Ruger Mk whatever pistols. Capbyrd has his opinion that a Ruger Mk (1-?) never needs to be disassembled, I say he's never shot one competitively. I think the Rugers have a marked advantage over the rest of the field due to ingenious self taught engineering skills of Bill Ruger and refined with the abundance of aftermarket parts in particular Volquartsen. I can hone and polish the internals of a stock Ruger trigger assembly to a noticeable improvement but they just don't compare to Volquartsen parts kits. There are now a few Volquartsen parts available for the Buckmark and the Victory but the Ruger Mk 2-3 trigger kits are the best. I personally think the Mk 2 is Superior to the Mk3 which may change once I get my hands on a Mk4 but don't count on it. The Buckmarks fair well but just don't have much in the way of upgrades or internal modifications as the Ruger. We just recently have had a S&W Victory in the club and I must say it's first couple of outings were less than impressive with several FTE and FTF's. I do think it has potential. The S&W Victory has taken some of the best of Ruger and Buckmark platforms and combined them but it's going to take some time to refine. Once again, just my , YMMV. Here's a video from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Foundation about the Tennessee SASP. https://youtu.be/iJpiMKW2j6k1 point

The Top Five Things You Can Do After Reassembling the Old Ruger Mark Pistol: (1) Apply for an automatic P.H.D. at the American Gunsmithing Institute. (2) Crack the safe in the KFC Secret Recipe Room. (3) Do any repair job on a Ford. (4) Advise Rebel pilots on how to take down the Death Star. (5) Raise Bill Ruger from the dead.1 point

At this point I honestly don't think that the rioters that come from outside the shooting area really care about facts. They come there to cause trouble and facts don't count. This will continue as long as it is tolerated by the people with the power to stop it step up and say enough is enough and begin arresting the trouble makers as soon as they arrive..........jmho1 point

While an M&P wouldn't be my 1st-5th choice for a 9mm striker fired pistol, I don't think the MAC testing is enough to make me say someone shouldn't carry one if they're comfortable with it, and put plenty of rounds through it at the range. The videos are quite entertaining to watch, though.1 point

Bob I can help if you don't mind shipping. I would need to measure the outside diameter (OD) of the barrel. You really need a small shoulder created for the suppressor to butt up against. The .578 is the diameter portion of the pattern, with 28 threads per inch. So, I'd say the barrel's OD really needs to be around .750" or so to give it a decent shoulder. You may be ok would just have to see.. worse case I could machine a shoulder adapter. But happy to help if you can't find a local resource you trust. Thx Mike1 point

Just a tidbit of information on how to improve red dots. If they take a 2032 battery and have a intensity knob, not a intensity button, you can swap out the single 2032 battery for two 2016 batteries. It makes the dot a lot more brighter. The 2016 batteries are identical in size to the 2032 except they are 1/2 the thickness so you can double them up. Makes sights that are barely useable in bright sunlight useable.1 point
