I just wanted to come back to this thread one more time to say thank you to everyone for the prayers, thoughts and kind words. My son was buried today at the National Cemetery with all Military Honors. The military did a wonderful job and his mother and I were/are very thankful and proud and so sad at the same time. It's hard to put into words. His love of motorcycles prompted me to contact the Patriot Guard Riders. They also did a wonderful job at the visitation last night standing by the door for many hours in the heat of the evening. The procession to the National Cemetery was led and accompanied by MANY PGR riders. I couldn't even guess at the number. They did a wonderful job and rode through a strong storm and wind for the last 5 miles to the National Cemetery as if the skies were blue. It was a sight to behold and, again, his mom and I were/are very thankful to them for honoring him in so great a way. Mom and I would like to say FLY HIGH our soldier buddy. We'll see you again one wonderful day.10 points

Oh come on. The way they found this ####bag is that a victim's mother saw the photo, knew immediately who he was, and put the police onto him. The police knew from pretty much "GO" that this guy wasn't Hispanic but the media and bureaucrats practically tripped over their dicks to prostrate themselves before the Arabic population and stick to the narrative that Muslim killers aren't killing people in the United States. Calling him Hispanic was a bull$%!t detour from calling him Middle Eastern, because... Hispanics look like Middle Easterners to NO ONE who has been around either of them. The only way the BOLO could have been more absurd would have been for the police and media to have said, "We are on the lookout for a guy. He's not white. He's not black. He's certainly not Asian. Any of you swarthy races... we're not saying he was one of you but we're not saying he isn't!" And EVERYONE knows that those damn pesky Hispanics have been on a global tear lately, killing people, terrorizing people, blowing #### up, etc. to satisfy the commands of their pedophile prophet, Salazar "Don't Call Me Mohammed" Con Queso El Diablo. Right? I mean, we all know that, RIGHT? It makes perfect sense, right? Hey cops, call off the search for any Middle Easterners carrying rifles down the street and start tossing every Taco Truck you see! Seriously, dude, I can count on you coming into just about any thread and taking a middle-to-left bearing on whatever is being said. I get it. That's your shtick and frankly I am glad you do because it keeps folks on their toes and you don't give people a hall-pass to regurgitate the Fox News narrative. But really, you looked at that photo and thought anything other than, "Goat F'ker" ?5 points

I honestly don't give a rat's behind about the different flavors of muslim. Terrorist from the middle east works for me.4 points

I hear what you're saying about profiling, but folks have really let the leftists turn that into a bad word. We all profile, and we are all profiled. It's a viable, valuable tool. But I digress! The facial features don't look like those commonly shared by Hispanics any more than I look like Mike Tyson. Maybe I'm wrong and it's just bad camera footage, but this guy's appearance in this photo doesn't fit their narrative in my opinion.3 points

They all have two things in common.....they're muslim, and they're killing us. I don't give a whit which country one hails from. If you can convey to us how to tell at a glance which ones are prone to murder Americans and which ones aren't, I'm all ears. Short of that, I don't care to know much more about them.2 points
-
Well, as long as you are digressing... I think I have shared this, before but shortly after 9/11 I was standing in line at a book store and an Arabic gentleman was in line behind me. A 'white' guy who obviously knew him came over and started talking to him, asking him if he had experienced 'profiling' as the Arabic gentleman apparently traveled a lot. The Arabic gentleman's reply was priceless (paraphrasing but this is pretty close to his actual words), "Well, honestly yes, to some degree. But people have to realize that those maniacs who flew those planes into buildings looked like me. People also have to realize that it is most likely that anyone else who is going to try it will look like me. It doesn't make any sense to concentrate the search on white guys or women or whatever when the most likely attacker will look like me. So if the little extra hassle of being pulled aside more often because the most likely attacker will look like me means not getting my ass blown up in midair then I am all for it!"2 points

we reheat smoked chicken the same way we do pulled pork except it is mostly chicken stock and just s splash of apple juice. Steam in a sealed pan in the oven. Every now and then we do small amounts of pulled pork in the same juice in a pan with a lid on the stove top.1 point

Yeah I saw the entire cartridge, case and all, going down the barrel in the video. I have seen this in other animated videos showing the entire cartridge going down the barrel and just figure the video creators are ignorant to how these kinds of things work. The Portal 2 trailer is funny. 65% more bullet per bullet, Yeah!!!!1 point

So I should have mentioned, when I 'm on smoke setting (which actually de-tunes from optimal burn to get a smolder...) I burn about a pound of pellets per hour. Cook time goes up a bit when I really load it up but I add maybe 2 hours to do 4 shoulders instead of one. So, for about $10 I can smoke one butt and for $12 I can do 4. Yes it gets a little old pulling all of that at one time but it is nice to have 3 months worth of pulled pork in the freezer and we can throw a get together in about 30 minutes. I put a bunch of pulled pork in a roasting pan, equal amounts of chicken stock and apple juice and seal it up to reheat... I almost always cook only on smoke setting. It takes a little longer but I like the amount of smoke I get. If I'm in a hurry and need to get a bunch of stuff done I smoke for 1/2 the time and finish in the oven while something else goes on the smoker. When I'm cooking burgers for the gang on a holiday I can put about 15- 20 on the smoker for 10 minutes or so and finish them on the gas grill while another round is on the smoker. That way I can turn out a fairly decent amount of burgers that have a little character from grill that aren't huge. While I'm rambling I might as well put in my nickles worth on vacuum sealers. After burning out 2 food savers I stepped up and bought a Cabelas professional model (made by Weston). this one is similar. Mine is a few years old and this has an updated interface I bought it as it was much heavier duty but more importantly I bought repairs parts for it. Tired of buying cheaper crap that has to be tossed when only 1 minor part is broken. It is a stud and works great. Mark1 point

Remember in TN our 'castle doctrine' extends beyond the home proper, to include any covered building that is used by people, as well as the curtilage of the property itself. Without seeing pictures of the yard outside it's impossible to know if the bad guys were inside the curtliage or not. But I think all of that is largely irrelevant, any reasonable person would just exchanged gun fire with bad guys inside their home, is likely still in fear of their life at least as long as she kept shooting. And lets be honest, with that video evidence, no DA in TN would touch this case with a 100' pole, let alone take it to trial. Unless something else was going on of a criminal nature - selling drugs out of the house for example.1 point

I have a small-ish vertical charcoal/wood smoker. In my experience, the time/effort increase to have the smoker jammed full vs only a turkey breast is nil. If you've got freezer space and a vacuum sealer, fill 'er up. So from that perspective, bigger is better.1 point
-
I can't advise on pellet consumption as I have a traditional/competition style wood/coal smoker, however, I would add a +1 to going slightly larger than you'll think you need. Regarding consumption, I can reduce my consumption by adjusting airflow, finding the "hot spot" in the cooking chamber and adjusting the smoked item accordingly, or extending the cook time.1 point

Update 9/26/2016... I completed the migration to the new server yesterday at around 7:00PM. It undoubtedly took a few hours longer than I had anticipated, but delayed arrival beats never arriving, in my book at least. Performance tuning of the new server is ongoing. I have quite a few things that I intend to change over the days ahead, including moving a lot of our graphics and files over to Amazon S3 cloud-based storage to take advantage of their Content Delivery Network. Basically this means things should speed up even more for us. I also have an upgrade for the forum software that will likely happen sometime today (Monday). If you notice us offline for a while today, that is why. I again want to thank everyone for being patient while I got things moved over to the new server and for your continued patience while I keep tweaking and tuning the new server for the best possible performance. Hopefully the work over the next few days will make TGO an even more enjoyable place to visit.1 point

He was almost solely THE reason golf really took off in the 60's for us hoi polloi, then as part of the Triumvirate that included Gary and Jack for many years. Not until Trevino came along was there a champion with even a more humble origin. And yes, he was undoubtedly the very epitome of the word gentleman. - OS1 point

I looked at the photo you posted in the beginning of the thread and didn't know what his ethnicity was. Really. It was inclusive as a lot of surveillance camera footage can be. You got it wrong too when you said he "looks like a young Arabic male." Turns out he was Turkish. As to the BOLO for Hispanic male...the media put out what law enforcement said. No conspiracy there. Will they talk about his ethnicity now that he's been caught? Guess we'll see. American could use the lesson on what the difference is between a Turkish Muslim, Arab Muslim, Kurdish Muslim, Persian Muslim. Everyone's mind went to Arab, but they're not interchangeable terms.1 point

Here is an update: After sending my P938 to Sig I got it back in about 3 weeks. When I called for a status on the repairs I never got a reply phone all or email! Upon receipt of my gun it appears per their list in addition to cleaning and polishing the feed ramp they "Replaced" 10 items! My case in point the early model P938's had issues and design problems. The good news is that I was not charged the $55 shipping and $85 service call that they quoted me. Here is the problem... Sig Customer Service sucks. If they new how to handle Customer Service calls they would still have a happy customer. I simply will not buy another Sig product. There are too many other choices out there!1 point

It's actually called WIC (Woman, Infants and Children). It's for single women or women in low income relationships to help feed the kids. If a mother breastfeeds her coupons double because there's a stinger need for good nutrition because of the breastfeeding child. Otherwise it's coupons to cover formula. As a teenager I would go with my mom who worked for MSU to deliver them to mom's who had just given birth. It's why I didn't ever have a child as a teenager. I helped deliver WIC coupons to girls my age. As for the EBT part, what comes first? The chicken or the egg? Until you elect officials into office who truly want reform, we as the middle class will continue to support broken programs. But unless you live a perfect life on the up and up, you really shouldn't give two seconds of thought to someone else's business. Might as well get a Facebook for posts like this one. My single mom worked her butt off and we had government assistance which back then was food stamps before everything became electronic. But I guess she was terrible because once or twice a week we'd get pop and Burger King or Little Ceasars. @LINKS2K is 100% right in his posts. To judge someone from a tiny window, makes you no better.1 point

I'm sorry, but I can't make assumptions and judge people like this. I had a crappy childhood, and once lied about my age to get a warehouse job. After leaving active duty life was pretty crappy, so I worked crappy jobs. I've never been on public assistance, and my family has been well off for over twenty years, so I could easily make assumptions about those on public assistance. I've learned that unless you really know a person, you never know what circumstances lead to a person being in certain situations. Are there abuses? I'm certain there are, but I'm not judging everyone on assistance based upon a snapshot of what I see at a convenience store. It's like walking up on an employee at work who has been busting it for hours, then decides to stop for two minutes to catch a break at the exact moment that you walk around the corner. Many times all you have to base your opinion on is the snapshot of that moment. That's not a good thing.1 point
-
My apologies. I don't pay close enough attention to how people choose to pay for their purchases. Honestly, I couldn't tell you what an EBT card looks like. I don't concern myself with what others purchase, so I never leave the store offended.1 point

This is how I buy of sell guns. Ask for or show my HCP or TN DL. Exchange cash for gun and walk away. If they do not have a HCP I ask if they are a prohibited person. If it is a complete stranger and not from TGO I do a few more things. I write their number on my hand, I also write their plate number on my hand and I generally audio record the transaction. No way I would ever give someone all that information. You are right, there are bad people out there but with their copy of the BoS they can do even more damage. I cannot think of a valid reason for that information. LE will already have all of that by the time they come knocking on your door. I would think becoming a victim of identity theft is a more realistic threat than getting in trouble because some jackwagon decides to break the law using a gun you sold to them.1 point
-
Exactly this. My personal information isn't required by law and is none of your business. I'll show my HCP and/or driver's license but no more.1 point
-
I don't do bill of sales period. I'm not giving some random person my personal information. It's not required by law and there are plenty of people who will sell or buy without one.1 point

My daughter is active in shooting. She works with cops, so she shoots what they shoot. Last weekend she was trying out her new M&P VTAC. I put a Model 19 in her hands (Beautiful nickel 6”) and said “Try this”. Needless to say she was impressed. I shoot them better than a Python.1 point

Your questions answered: http://www.bcbst.com/why-bcbst/about-us/news-center/2017rates.page In case the link doesn't work, here's most of the questions and answers: Why are rates going up so much next year? It's our fault. We set prices too low and the correction is leading to sticker shock. I didn't have many claims. So why are my rates going up? To satisfy the subsidies and make up for people gaming the system. What am I getting for my premiums? Peace of mind knowing you're on the good side of the IRS When will I know for sure what my 2017 plan will cost? When you see your postal carrier at your mailbox laughing How can I learn about different plan options? A week before the election, open enrollment begins. Find something cheap. How will tax credits, or subsidies, impact my rate? A lot. Get a lower paying job and you'll find out. Are you using this as an excuse to earn higher profits? Seriously? We're offended. We're on your side. Why are you not using your reserves to make premiums lower? We have to look out for our own first. What are you doing to control costs? Hiring illegal immigrants and outsourcing the call center to Indonesia. Are 2017 rates going up to recoup losses from previous years? Nope. That was a tax write off. What happens if BlueCross keeps losing money on the Marketplace? Simple....we abandon ship. There's always Humana (for now). What are you doing to help members get healthier? Higher premiums of course. You'll have less to spend on beer, cigs, candy, etc.1 point

My employer went back to BCBS a few months ago and it jacked my rates up. I was paying $108 a month for family coverage before with UHC now $260 a month. Keeps going it will be more expensive to be a working member of society than to just get the gubment handout.1 point
