What concerns me more is the level of panic that a week old news story was able to cause with people. I think I really need to reconsider the seriousness of what would happen during an actual SHTF scenario.8 points

The mistake was shooting one. Until Saturday I had not ever shot an AK. They just never really interested me. To make matters worse, the first AK I shot was full auto. Man what a fun gun to shoot. It was a blast doing 3-4 round burst moving from target to target. Looks like now I am going to have another gun to start buying. Time to say bye bye to more of my hard earned money.7 points

Just received a vintage Savage 340 30-30! Here's what makes it special. This is my grandfather's rifle he used to put food on his family and neighbors families tables in the rural Ozark mountains of northern Arkansas. My grandfather died at the age of 28 from what is believed to be an aneurysm, not too long after returning from Korea. My dad was only 5 years old and this rifle was one of the few possessions my grandfather had that my father was able to keep through the years, house fires, and normal life issues. My grandfather purchased the rifle through the only general store in the little town they lived in, probably from a Belknap catalog. I do have the catalog as well! Probably purchased sometime in late 1950 or early 1951. Which is pretty cool as well since the 340 came out in 1950. Also have the original box of ammo that my grandfather had at the time of his death with 4 shells left in the box! Gun isn't a high value gun but it's priceless to me. To hold in my hands the tool the man I never got to meet, used to feed his family. The gun my father used to kill his prized mounted 10 pointer the day I was born ... It doesn't get any better than that.3 points

My kids team got an invite to play a showcase tournament at UT Knoxville. It was today... Lets just say they showed up and showed out!!! Maddie HAMMERED one 250+ With the eyes of a major SEC coach on her...and maybe more... Afterward, they got invited into the facility, and into the players lounge and locker rooms she is the catcher... Even the Ump had praise for her Curve ball, yes, that was still a strike! player lounge, talks with the Weeklys (coaches) Oh, and for whatever its worth, she batted 1000...lol3 points

I have been using this for a while especially with my .22 lr's. I noticed a few weeks ago that some of the cheap wrapping paper that my girlfriend had bought about 10 rolls of just after Christmas had grids on the back of perfect 1 inch squares. I think it was about 50 cents a roll. But just a marker and some wrapping paper and a box makes for some great targets especially for sighting in optics. I'm not sure if all paper is this way but all the rolls I have are. So guys, when the wife comes in with all those rolls of cheap wrapping paper on December 26 you should offer to go "put it in storage" for next year. Just thought I'd share.3 points

Reportedly some asshats were filling up 55-gal drums in neighboring Maury County. The Sheriff's Dept put out word on social media last night asking folks not to do this as it is very dangerous to transport. So, probably the same folks who have been hoarding .22LR ammo.3 points

@btq96r, Yeah I am an AR guy as well. I have years of experience with the AR platform but tragically lost all of my ARs to a freak boating accident and just feel the need to have an AK that I can take with me the next time I go night-fishing or some other risky water sport. God forbid the boat tip over again and I lose another rifle.3 points

Wow, they managed to hit it all with that article. Chain smoking, unhealthy, unemployed whackadoodle with an AR-15, up to his ears in debts that he ostensibly isn't paying off, bankrupt, surfs the normal III%'er websites, signed up for the militia, decked his house (impending foreclosure) and raggedy mini-van with security cameras, pulls a "Leonard" and warns the cops that he's coming ahead of time (hoping for a confrontation and a lawsuit I guess), heads to Wal-Mart to tool around on the "Fat Lady Scooter" with his rifle's muzzle precariously stuffed into his shoe, while raiding the "sodas" and junk food aisles, all while scaring the gentle folks. Hell, they even managed to get a picture of him swilling a Coke and sporting a Trump for President T-shirt. I guess they left out the revelation that his wife was also his cousin because then the article would have seemed contrived. No bias in any of that story at all.3 points

This evening, at the only station in our town I saw that had gas,I saw a guy at the pump filling up a blue plastic drum in the bed of his truck. If you don't use it, it'll turn to furniture finish in a few months. A person can be intelligent, but people are truly stupid.2 points

I have several of the Bushnell TRS-25s on various weapons and have been pleased with them. I have other optics as well that cost a good deal more but bang for the buck, the TRS-25 is a decent red dot.2 points

With all of the heavy communist legislation being forced on us lately and it never ceasing to grow here in California, the wife and I have decided to move to greener and freer pastures. My wife is originally from California, but her parents moved to Tennessee about 15 years ago. She spent most of her middle and high school years there. Her parents are in Franklin, so we want to be close by in Williamson County. She likes Thompson's Station/Spring Hill area so that's where we will most likely be looking. It's a big decision for us. We have a 3 month old son and all of our family is here in California. But the writing is on the wall out here and it's time to go. I look forward to living in a state that holds my beliefs dear and somewhere we can raise our son with freedom, peace and at a normal pace of life. My mom's side is from Arkansas, so it won't be a culture shock for me. I am looking forward to hand shakes and hospitality and being able to live the way I was raised. Our plans are to be there next summer. Pay off some debt and get our loose ends straight and we will be good to go. I look forward to getting to know all of your here and to take any advice you may have. Thanks1 point

TWRA Fluorescent "Blaze" Orange Requirements: Hunters must wear on the upper portion of their body and head a minimum of 500-square inches of daylight fluorescent orange (blaze orange), visible front and back, while hunting big game except on archery-only and turkey hunts. (A hat and vest fulfills requirements.) Blaze orange camo is legal if it contains 500 square inches of fluorescent orange. In those areas where the archery-only deer season dates overlap with another big game gun season (i. e. bear or boar), archers are required to wear 500 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange (TCA-70-4-124). -- The wording above does not seem to distinguish or indicate any exception short of archery-only and turkey hunts. Deer can't see it. Better safe than sorry to wear it when the orange army starts to come out between Muzzeloader & Rifle season.1 point

Supposed to be fixed next week, and they had two pipelines, the one carrying jet fuel was diverted to carry normal gas. And yeah it is bad around here too. Went to take the trash & get some non-ethanol mower gas, sure as heck they were out.. of everything. Go to a shell station, out of everything except regular and of course there were multiple trucks there with beds full of 2-3 gallon cans topping all of them off. I need to buy stock in M&M's then pay the news stations to run a story about how the machines that make the candy shell are being banned by the FDA in December.1 point

People are strange, every year we get some form of frozen precipitation that sends people into a blind panic buying milk and bread...or beer and cigarettes as the case may be. That same group of people also hit up the nearest...or cheapest gas stations as well. Most of you don't remember the oil embargos of the 1970's and its level of panic.1 point

I've seen some guys using xmas paper at the range myself, but they had the plain white side (no grids) and used it as the background for a grid target when sighting in rifles. The large white paper covers up all the other holes in the backer board so it's easier to see that first shot on a new scope and adjust from there.1 point

Don't forget Green River Gun Club in Bowling Green KY. I know it's not in middle Tennessee, but it's close. We shoot IDPA on the 4'th Saturday and Tactical Rifle on the 5'th Saturday. September 24'th will be the 8'th annual "IDPA Like" Night shoot. See website for more info: http://www.bggrgc.com/1 point

OK, I realize there are "those kind" out there within the gun community, but this has a distinct air of liberal initiated/fabricated propaganda to promote the cause kind of stuff. Just sayin'.1 point

I went from no AK about a year ago to 3! Plus a pistol! 7.62x39 just feels good to me, enough recoil to keep your attention, even FMJ really blows stuff up much better than .223 too, which is too fast for small size to do much but pass through. All the steel cased stuff is same or cheaper than same in .223 and you get a lot bigger cartridge and bullet for the money! - OS1 point

KahrMan, let's go shopping. I am in the market for an AK [finally] myself. Based on what I have seen, 7.62 is the caliber to get as 5.45 has become increasingly harder to find. Any truth to this?1 point

The ethanol isn't added until after the gasoline leaves the pipeline. It would be better if it were not added at all.1 point

Stoeger MK3 for price. Jerry may run the 930 but he knows how to keep it running. Not many serious 3 gunners run the 930 and I have seen plenty with issues. The shotgun is the one platform you do not want to go cheap with. The Beretta 1301 can be had for under 1000.00 and will serve you very well in the stock configuration. The Beretta is my recommendation.1 point

I want to say thanks to everyone who put this together. It was an absolutely great time! Everybody was really great and the selection of full auto guns was awesome. Although the mini gun was really cool I think my favorite was the PKM. Also glad to see Kahrman there, made it even better.1 point

Good comments from you all. Reasonable and valid, as far as I'm concerned, from both sides. However, I'm personally of the opinion that a look to verify my, or yours, identity and residence, is sufficient for a sale if you ask the prerequisite questions: Are you prohibited from owning/purchasing a firearm? Are you of age to purchase? Are you a legal resident of this state? Of course my feelings and read on the person I'm dealing with enter into things as well. I do not routinely use a Bill of Sale form. I do if transferring a weapon I bought from an FFL, or if it is one I purchased from someone requiring a BOS from me, I will ask for one as well. When I do require one from a buyer, I try to make it plain in the beginning so there is no surprise. I will admit to forgetting to do it a couple of times. Then I will apologize up front, explain the situation, and give the buyer a choice...do it or not. If there is any problem or reluctance to do it I will say "Thank you and I'm sorry for wasting your time." I have not had anyone turn down a purchase, nor have I under this situation. I do use a form similar to what xsubsailor and DaveTN use. Otherwise, I'm with Mr & Mrs Monkeyman, I do not like my Name/Address/ETC floating around. Yes, these days anybody with a modicum of pc/internet savvy could probably find all that out, but I just don't freely give it away. I had a person ask to take a picture of my DL once. That stopped me cold. No need for that to be had by anyone.1 point

Middle TN is a great place to live and business is booming here. It sounds as though you clearly aren't one of these people, but my concern is that Tennessee may eventually succumb to the same fate as Colorado has as more and more transplants from leftist-voting states like California move in and change the voter demographic.1 point

Everybody is different. I just recently sold a piece of machinery, the buyer paid for it in cash because "I don't trust the banks." His words, not mine. Shortly after that I bought a used pickup and paid for that with a few thousand dollars in cash. Pretty much everything I buy that's worth more than a few hundred bucks is bought in person, with cash. A lot of it is used, and most private sellers don't have a way to take plastic and don't trust a check. I certainly don't when I sell something. I don't think we'll see cash, or the $100 bill going away anytime soon.1 point
