  1. Just received a vintage Savage 340 30-30! Here's what makes it special. This is my grandfather's rifle he used to put food on his family and neighbors families tables in the rural Ozark mountains of northern Arkansas. My grandfather died at the age of 28 from what is believed to be an aneurysm, not too long after returning from Korea. My dad was only 5 years old and this rifle was one of the few possessions my grandfather had that my father was able to keep through the years, house fires, and normal life issues. My grandfather purchased the rifle through the only general store in the little town they lived in, probably from a Belknap catalog. I do have the catalog as well! Probably purchased sometime in late 1950 or early 1951. Which is pretty cool as well since the 340 came out in 1950. Also have the original box of ammo that my grandfather had at the time of his death with 4 shells left in the box! Gun isn't a high value gun but it's priceless to me. To hold in my hands the tool the man I never got to meet, used to feed his family. The gun my father used to kill his prized mounted 10 pointer the day I was born ... It doesn't get any better than that.

  2. Because the Media stopped doing journalism years ago and now just generates contents to suit agendas and attract eyeballs to pages. I hate them.

  6. With all the emissions crap on them now, I would only get a newer one if I was where they don't have emissions testing. You can delete that junk off and greatly improve the efficiency (mpg) and power.

  7. Gah.... false alarm and apologies, guys. I found that by squaring them off it was hosing the format on some mobile devices. The theme layout that we use right now assumes rounded avatars so I broke a couple of things by changing it.

  9. Ok I'll admit I was one of the ones who disliked the round one and I do like the square one but I do think round one looks "cleaner" and more fitting to the general style and layout of the forum. So, yes we are impossible to please

  10. Here is a second gun resurrection post. This is a "how's it done" posting that I hope will be enjoyable as well as an informative posting. The Marlin #47 pictured here is one I bought on GB a few years ago. The 47 was made in 1930-31 and only given to investers who would buy at least 4 shares of Marlin stock for $100. It was also the First Marlin to get the new cyanide process color case hardened receiver. Of course it would have to be THIS rifle to be caught up in a fire! All the springs including the mag tube spring are still in good working condition making it a worthy project. This segment will deal with making a new pump handle since the wood on this was toast. I have already fitted a new semi inlet butt stock from Numrich Gun Parts. To find a piece of wood that may be the easiest to remanufacture into a handle, I found I had just the piece. It was an unknown broken butt stock that would save me one whole machine operation. The butt stock tang bolt hole happen to be slightly larger in diameter than the Marlins barrel OD. So I band sawed the stock to include half of the length wise hole. Once the chunk was cut out, it was a simple case of measuring the mag tube hole center below the barrel channel and putting V counter sink holes on the ends for turning the piece on centers. Here I match the OD to the original tho slightly over for later sanding. Once I had a round handle, it was easy to bore the mag tube hole centered in the 6 jaw lathe chuck to this raw pc. The next step was to mill in the action bar relief. The mag tube hole drill is set into the handle and then clamped snugly into the bench top mill so as to not crack the handle in the vise. A nice snug fit The action bar has a defined rust line where the wood covered it so that line was where I chucked the rusted end of the bar into the vise. I use a drill that would be the ID of the bar's attaching holes. That drill is put directly in line with the Bar hole and then the wood is slid on under the drill and a perfectly in line hole is born! Same pre line up the hole, then get the wood in between the bar & drill. Once the line up holes are in, the handle its self is chucked up and the holes bored to attaching screw OD. Then the screw escutcheon reliefs are bore to exacting depth. The escutcheons yet need to be sand blasted cleaned and blued before I press them in the handle, but here it is in the rought. The next segment will be the relining of the barrel.

  14. I was out driving around to see if the new shocks helped my truck's ride. A local Shell station in Bellevue was up to $2.59 (for regular unleaded) a little bit ago. People were going in to try to buy gas cans in addition to topping off their SUV.

  17. A lot of stations out here in Columbia, I topped off the vehicles and cans just in case. Still $1.89 at my local station. Kroger was .30 cents higher earlier. Now they have signs, "Diesel Only". Oh well at least I work from home.

  18. Down here no problem with a dealership taking them traded one off couple years ago and they will still do warranty work. Boy if the EPA really went out they would be fining thousands of people in this state. Even in your neck of the woods I know plenty of people without some bolt back on to pass test and yank them off again. It is dangerous running with a DPF etc when it does a burn off and you lose up tp 75% power when pulling a load you have to pull off the road sometime to let it Re-gen

  19. Well, it's by the county for testing and the problems with deleting are, in no real particular order... Warranty EPA can (and apparently will) fine you if they catch you Dealerships won't take one on trade if it's been deleted (see previous)

  33. This is a link to the Bill Summary below: http://www.senate.mo.gov/16info/BTS_Web/Bill.aspx?SessionType=R&BillID=22246426 The "Truly Agreed on and Passed" Version that was overridden: http://www.senate.mo.gov/16info/pdf-bill/tat/SB656.pdf Effective Dates There is an Emergency Clause for immediate enactment of Section 571.104, which has to do with the military permit renewals. Enactment of Section 571.030 would be delayed until January 1, 2017. This section has to do with carrying concealed weapons under subsection 1 (permitless concealed carry), additional persons being exempted from crimes under subsection 5, and changes in penalties under subsection 8. All the rest should be enacted on October 14. (Thirty days from the Veto Session on September 14 would be October 14; see 21.250 RSMo.) Note: Missouri still can't carry on Buses or Trains legally but hopefully next session this can be addressed.

The CZ 75 SP-01 SHADOW ORANGE pistol differs in new procedures and operations added as a part of the serial production process (e.g. the manual fitting of the barrel, the lateral definition of the free movement of the bolt and the sophisticated trigger mechanism). 36. If you want a CZ that's NOT for carry, that's an excellent choice. Personally, I don't care for guns I can't carry.

  37. I can't tell you what to do, only what I would do. As long as there are no metal detectors or searches I would carry, anyway. Just remember that concealed means concealed. It pisses me off that these local yokels expect us to follow their asinine local laws and ordinances but think that they should be able to simply ignore any state law that they don't like and continue to enforce laws/rules that are in clear and direct violation of state law. What good does 'working within the system' do when any progress made within that system is in name only?

  40. Shameless plug... one of the nice things that I intentionally designed into the TGO decals is the fact that at a casual glance, they don't look like a gun-related decal. There are so many Tennessee tri-star decals out there that people just see it as one of those unless they are really paying attention.
