  1. Your opinions are pure and simply that. Both of you have a tendency to have outspoken opinions you expound on, I frequently disagree but also frequently make a point not to play along with your games. Sorry btq96r I don't have any safe spaces, I spent 30 years being spit on, assaulted, threatened and viewing the worst in people. So I'm a bit jaded, but I made a point not to bait people or turn my back on people inciting arguments. I have all kinds of negative opinions on subsequent actions of 9/11 and argued same in training. But I also don't feel the need to post memes or public criticism in a Memorial thread.

  2. The Washington Redskins finally drop offensive name. >> >> Dan Snyder, owner of the NFL Washington Redskins, has announced that the team is dropping "Washington" from the team name, and it will henceforth be simply known as >> "The Redskins." >> >> It was reported that he finds the word 'Washington' imparts a negative image of poor leadership, mismanagement, corruption, cheating, lying, and graft, and is not a fitting role-model for young fans of football

  3. The airline I was flying for on 9/11 furloughed huge numbers of pilots. 9/11 changed my world and my career, but it is nothing compared to what so many experienced. I want people getting screened that sit behind me at 40,000'. Sure it could be done more efficiently and be less of a pain, but it is what it is right now. I don't agree with all of the changes to government and policies that have developed, but the fact is we live in a different world because of islamic terrorists. 9/11 opened the world's eyes to an evil that still seeks to destroy us, and we must never forget what they are capable of. It bugs me that some people want use 9/11 to bash our own county. It is a day to reflect, remember, mour the loss of life and take account of whether or not you would be ready for the next attack.

  4. I don't see the difference in opinion as "animosity for our country." One can love their country and still seek to disagree with the policies that it's pursuing, that's a tenet of democracy. If Sept. 11th is supposed to be a day to show the terrorists that they won't destroy our way of life, we can't be afraid about where democracy takes us in the course of a debate. As to your 2nd paragraph...sorry (not sorry) if we violated your safe space. But after moments of silence, we needs moments of honesty about what that day cost us. As far as I'm concerned, a part of our freedoms became casualties alongside the victims and the first responders from that day. Speaking out to those facts doesn't mean I don't mourn the lives lost along with the families and friends that were forever changed any less.

  5. If I see bill of sale I immediately lose interest. I'll gladly show you my valid HCP and I'll also ask for yours, but other then that, all I'll be willing to part with is my cash. I understand CYA and what not, but I also don't think you need my address, phone, license number, blood type or anything else. That's why we meet in the Bass Pro Parking Lot. Heck, once Monkey and I even went in shopping with a member we met, I got 2 machetes. Totally normal.

  6. You seem to think it's about the attackers. It's not, it's about those we lost that day, it's about the 1st responders, it's about our soldiers. I remember all the domestic POS terrorists, but besides being vigilant I don't waste a second thinking about them, or any of the enemy combatants for that matter. I choose to see my country as the bastion of freedom, and choose to love it warts and all. While I am not stupid to think what we have done has all been perfect, or even the right thing; I still support it. At this point I could care less what other's opinions happen to be on certain issues, such as this and Kaepernick (a POS if you want MHO), we are not going to change our differing opinions, so I'm done wasting bandwidth on it.

  10. With all of the heavy communist legislation being forced on us lately and it never ceasing to grow here in California, the wife and I have decided to move to greener and freer pastures. My wife is originally from California, but her parents moved to Tennessee about 15 years ago. She spent most of her middle and high school years there. Her parents are in Franklin, so we want to be close by in Williamson County. She likes Thompson's Station/Spring Hill area so that's where we will most likely be looking. It's a big decision for us. We have a 3 month old son and all of our family is here in California. But the writing is on the wall out here and it's time to go. I look forward to living in a state that holds my beliefs dear and somewhere we can raise our son with freedom, peace and at a normal pace of life. My mom's side is from Arkansas, so it won't be a culture shock for me. I am looking forward to hand shakes and hospitality and being able to live the way I was raised. Our plans are to be there next summer. Pay off some debt and get our loose ends straight and we will be good to go. I look forward to getting to know all of your here and to take any advice you may have. Thanks

  13. They attacked symbols on 911, not some crappy little government building in OKC. I am not talking about the lives lost. Both events were huge in terms of loss. I'm talking about bashing in the hood of our Corvette (changing the NYC skyline). They were out to destroy American spirit. I think they underestimated our spirit and our response. Good thing it wasn't my finger on the button. I would have busted a couple over Afghanistan THAT DAY, and dared those assholes to fire one round in response. You can bet there was a boomer already sitting in the Indian Ocean.

  14. While people are rightly focused on remembering the foreign terrorists that attacked the US on 9-11, a lot of folks are all too willing if not downright eager to forget the domestic terrorists that did the same. If the day that started one of, if not the greatest assaults on personal freedom in America is not an acceptable time to remember it, what day is?

  16. You know, I get the idea of protesting the liberties that have been encroached on and freedoms that have been violated by knee-jerk reactions as a result of 9/11 but what @Chucktshoes needs to remember is that none of us here [likely] enacted any of those new laws or asked for them in the first place. This thread was obviously intended to remember those whose lives were lost on 9/11/01 and it is still valid for that. Let's not sink the thread just because one or two people saw podiums instead of coffins.

  17. I BOS isn’t required by law; but you do have legal requirements. I can only sell to residents of this state and people that are of age; that is required by law and violating that can lead to my arrest. I can’t sell to a person that I know to be a felon; but the law gives me no way to check that other than asking them. If it should later become an issue of whether or not I knew; I have some support. If I don’t know the person I like to have a BOS showing I did what I could reasonably do to meet that requirement. I don’t need to know their address and they don’t need to know mine. So I found a BOS on the net and modified it. It was a short statement saying you are of age, a Tennessee resident, and can legally own a firearm. All the form has is our names and phone numbers with the firearm serial numbers. That’s all that’s needed. I am also concerned with stolen firearms; I hate a thief. If a seller balks at a BOS; I walk. I mean let’s get real here….. If you buy or sale a weapon the other person will at the very least have an email address, should have a telephone number and probably a license plate number. Should an issue arise and the cops get involved; that info will identify you. This is what I use….

  18. Middle TN is a great place to live and business is booming here. It sounds as though you clearly aren't one of these people, but my concern is that Tennessee may eventually succumb to the same fate as Colorado has as more and more transplants from leftist-voting states like California move in and change the voter demographic.

  21. SAT Sept 24th is the 8th annual Green River Gun Club (GRGC) Night Match. IDPA-like match using mostly IDPA rules. YOU MUST HAVE SHOT TWO OR MORE DAYLIGHT IDPA MATCHES IN ORDER TO SHOOT IN THE NIGHT MATCH. (They don't have to be GRGC matches, but we can't "train you in the dark". You must come "pre-trained" in IDPA commands/operations.) Setup 4pm. MANDATORY Shooters Meeting 6:30pm. Shoot at Dark. Categories: 1.) Hand Held Light 2.) Weapon Mounted Light (must fit in holster) 3.) Weapon Mounted Light/Laser (must fit in holster) All targets must be illuminated by the shooter's flashlight before shooting them. We will also shoot a rifle side match on stages 1, 4, and 5 after the pistol shooters on each squad has finish that stage like we have done the last few years. There there will be lots of tight shots, hard cover, and hits on non-threats for those who wish to complain, might as well start now! Five stages. Minimum round count is 68 rounds. For more information and stage descriptions, go the GRGC's website: http://www.bggrgc.com/

  26. I will take these one at a time: 1: I can agree it is Security Theater, but that security theater existed well before 9/11. You can still get on a plane and you can still fly anywhere you want. Because you don't want to do it doesn't mean you have lost a freedom. We can agree that the formation of the TSA was a waste of money, no problem there, but I don't believe you or anyone else lost any freedoms because of it. Is it more inconvenient, yes. Loss of freedom, no. 2: I haven't tried to get a CDL, but my dad had one. Again, just because it takes more time to get one, you didn't lose a freedom. I don't like the fact that they can essentially charge whatever they want, but I also understand that it is now probably the easiest way for a terrorist to obtain and deliver a device of mass destruction on US soil. It certainly isn't perfect, but nothing ever will be. Again, if you want to get a CDL and license to deliver pesticides, you still can. 3: I also agree in theory on this, but I also don't give a crap if they want to know what numbers I call. In the example of suing for access to a locked device, they had a warrant. That is ok. I don't agree they should be able to force a company to break their own security however, but it is perfectly ok with me if they want to hire someone to break into a phone of a known terrorist. I don't even give a crap if they have my text messages, I don't think they are worried about your average person. It could certainly be used for nefarious purposes I suppose, but this just doesn't get me up in arms. I think we lost a lot of liberties well before 9/11. I have much bigger issues with the rate of people going on disability and the fraud placed on our Social Security system, both of which have nothing to do with 911. Its way to easy to just say "I have lost my freedoms" and complain about every single thing the government does without really thinking about possible ramifications. Hell, remove all laws so we have complete freedom. I don't think the other side of the coin looks any better. For sure, the majority of people are not going to allow for that. In a short answer, inconvenience does not equal loss of freedom. In most of these cases, we are talking about inconvenience, not a loss of liberty.

  27. Just some random thoughts..... Everyone wants to do something...until they actually have to DO something. That is just how it is in life no matter whether we are talking about shooting, or getting in better shape or cleaning out the garage. It is hard to get a group together to do any kind of "tactical " training on a regular basis. If you have a group that will meet for more than 3 or 4 times you have something special going and when it ends don't cry because it is over, but smile because it even happened in the first place. Seriously.... training groups tend to be short lived. People will tell you they are interested until they actually have to do something. The number of people actually willing to do the work is small. One reason that gun clubs don't already offer this type thing is because of liability. My local club (Chattanooga Rifle Club) will not allow you to draw a gun from a holster unless it is in a match. I then ask "how are we supposed to practice for the match here if we can't draw from the holster?" and the answer is "that is not our problem". The real reason is that ANY one with zero training can join and use the club facilities. We have guys who are occasional recreational shooters who shoot once or twice a year and we have guys who are highly accomplished shooters who have shot in IDPA World Championship matches...and every level in between. So to keep the likelihood of accidental shootings to a minimum the range simply functions as a place to do recreational shooting , not realistic competitive or self defense shooting. They offer HCP classes through the club ,but again, the HCP class is NOT really training...it is the bare minimum legal and gun safety info the state feels you should know before they will approve you to carry a gun on your person in public.....kind of like comparing the drivers test to get your license to a tactical driving school....they are not at all the same thing. For that matter, Prag and I have talked about doing a Tac Med class in the Knoxville area , possible at ORSA, with NO LIVE FIRE, only airsoft interactive training for context in where and how people suffer traumatic injury in self defense situations and the training in wound care but so far they seem to be deathly afraid of liability.... even though I am an NRA certified instructor, heavily insured and have been teaching professionally since 1999....... And the same applies for many people with private property....many people just do not want to risk an accident on their property. Another reason that folks don't do this is because of too many responsibilities pulling them in other directions. Again, everyone wants to do it until life gets in the way. Nothing wrong with that, and we all have to make choices and take care of responsibilities, but it makes keeping a training group going very difficult. A couple of years ago I ran a local combatives group that sounds kind of similar to what the OP mentions that met ONE night a month and the cost was $20.....it went fine in the winter months , but once the weather got warmer and sun was out longer folks started getting pressure from their wives to spend those evenings with them. The training group pretty much faded away.....and these were guys serious enough to go to multiple gun classes, and come work on empty hand defensive skills and transitioning to weapons (all done dry with blue guns) but they ended up not being able to set aside even ONE night a month once "outside forces" started competing for their time. The other thing is who is going to be "leading" the groups? Someone working for the club (or property owner?) will have to make the time to come out and actually run the sessions. That in and of itself might be an issue getting someone from the range or club to commit to coming out and doing it regularly if they are not getting paid anything extra to do it (see that section about other priorities competing for time). And then who is actually running the sessions? Depending on their level of experience and training that might be good...or it might not. Remember...practice does not make perfect...it makes permanent . Only perfect practice makes perfection permanent. MAybe the "range instructor"? OK. That might be good ....but ...you can get an NRA teaching certification pretty easily...it is essentially a "safety monitor" certification. I have had NRA certified instructors who thought they knew a lot (and they did compared to folks with no previous experience) come to our BASIC class and be almost overwhelmed by how much there was to know that they did not learn in their NRA classes. Again the NRA does not teach "Gunfighting" they teach gun safety. And then there is that pesky profit motive....the range would have to be making enough money to make the "nuisance" of having to have someone run the group or at least monitor the group worthwhile....and at that point it would probably start to get more expensive than people would want. Ranges are businesses and exist to make $$$ . We forget that a lot of times. So unless you find a range owner that wants to get the training and is willing to forego payment for knowledge you might have a hard time selling this to a range .....assuming they don't already think that because they have "been around guns their whole life" they don't need to learn anything else anyway.... And finally the location....are there even enough members of the particular club that would be interested in coming out and doing it? If you have a small club with small membership then you are looking at an exponentially small pool of participants because we pretty much have settled on the numbers of 10% of people get a permit , 1/10 of that number take another class after thier HCP class and 1/10th of that take a second.....it is truly a small pool you are fishing in at that point.... I wish you the best of luck. I just want you to know what you are up against.

  29. If you're a fan of the TSA security theater that's fine, but I'm not. I don't like to fly, but I've lost the option now because I won't volunteer to play their games. Have you tried to get a CDL hazmat endorsement? Post 9-11, it's become a much more involved, expensive process. How about an agricultural pesticide license? I'm working on that now, six weeks into what used to be a two day process. Those are real things that have affected me directly. We also have the NSA and Homeland Security spying on US citizens without warrants and suing for access to locked devices because the government thinks they have the right to every portion of our lives. That's just off the top of my head, could probably find more with a bit of thought.

  32. JCT 1911... Yep, dark beers and IPA are the least temp sensitive and have a richer flavor so I prefer them myself. But I have a lot of admiration for the more advanced, or methodical, home brewer who can craft a fine pilsner beer. My limited experience with home wine making was less then favorable but I've seen people with the most basic of equipment grow their own grapes, raspberries and elderberries and turn out exceptional tasting wine...

  33. Chuck, I've gathered from several of your posts that you have an alternative view of 9/11 and I can respect that, but with that comment, you're just actively trolling. Insinuating that the tragedy of 9/11 is akin to opinions about gender inequality is a pretty effed up. You're aware that it's possible to have an opinion and not share it correct? I think poorly of a few people and their opinions... but they'll never know it because I have enough tact to keep it to myself.

The Squid part of my name also because I am into motorcycles. At least around here it's a not so nice term for young punks on sport bikes. I can understand all of your concerns about the demographic and culture changing where you live. I don't plan on bringing anything from Kalifornia except for some dust on the bottom of my shoes. I've seen it myself here also. It's always been a liberal hot bed. But it's changed so much since I was a kid it's incredible. Especially as more illegal aliens have come in and our overlords have pandered to them. Honest, God fearing Constitutional Americans aren't represented here anymore.

I moved here from England 7½ years ago (you think you've had it bad.....) & bought my first firearm through an FFL 92 days later. The whole process took me about 15 minutes. It still amazes me to this day how uncomplicated Tennessee makes it to buy through a store & private sales are exactly the same as buying anything else!

  38. There are quite a few gun owners out here. Mostly inland valley, Northern state, in the Sierra and a few places down south. Basically the conservative places. Every gun store has the petitions and guys running the campaign on Calguns are saying the estimates are close to a million signatures. But Prop 63 is already on the ballot and will negate anything done anyways. Brown basically doubled down and signed these laws in case 63 didn't pass. Also, everyone already expects Newsom to be governor next so these proposals will eventually be law regardless. Fighting now is just buying time. The wife and I have already decided to leave by next summer.Hence why I'm here. I'd rather not give my taxes to the communists anymore. They can have this state. It's going down hill fast out here.

  39. Home brewing is a fun hobby that is something everyone can participate in while learning new skillsets. In a lot of ways there's enough chemistry involved to be helpful for school age children. The Mr. Brew Kits are just fine to start out with and will help you decide how serious you want to get. Any dark non twist off lid beer bottle can be reused and you can by empty beer bottles. I use glass carboys to brew in gallon lots but am looking at 3 gallon carboys. You'll find your local public library has every possible home brewing book possible so spend a little time reading what you can.

  42. I know it won't happen but would like to see gun manufacturers fight back against this nonsense by banding together and saying, "Okay, if our products are so unwelcome in your state then none of us will sell our firearms or ammunition to anyone in your state. That includes all government agencies, law enforcement and the people assigned to be security for government officials. After all, if our products are so 'dangerous' for people in your state to own then that should include the entire state and everyone in it." I don't think that the citizens, police and so on in those states would really suffer for it nor do I really think it would cost the companies revenue because if the manufacturers did that, were serious about it and followed through on it my hunch is that it would take the politicians very long to back off and shut the hell up.

  47. Effective April 8, 2020, all rules and guidelines for using the TGO Trading Post are now found in this article. Please always refer to this article for the most up-to-date guidelines.
    1 point
  48. Folks...   Our policies about the TGO Trading Post bear repeating.  Pay attention, especially if you are new here!     TGO's trading post is largely recognized as one of the BEST ways for individuals to buy, sell and trade firearms and accessories via private party transactions. Our trading post generates perhaps more traffic than the rest of the site and has proven itself to be a tremendous bargain for the seller and a great resource for the buyer. We are extremely proud of that and continually look for ways to improve the experience for everyone involved. To that end, the Staff and I have decided to implement the following updates to the Trading Post policies. Fraud Zero Tolerance Policy: Updated November 4, 2011 Effective immediately, anyone who fails to complete an agreed-upon transaction within seven (7) business days will be subject to disciplinary action including but not limited to loss of access to the Trading Post and a temporary or permanent ban from the TGO community. Further, the TGO Staff will cooperate with any civil or legal action taken against any party who defrauds another. The only exception to the seven (7) business day guideline will be if both parties agree, in written form via public response to a Trading Post thread, that an extension of the deadline is acceptable. Do not post an item for sale or trade until you are committed to parting with it. Do not agree to buy or trade for something until you are committed to doing so and have all of the resources (money, items, etc.) necessary to complete the deal. While there are legitimate exceptions to completing a transaction, it will be at the sole discretion of the TGO Staff as to whether the reason was valid when a transaction is aborted. Sale Interference Zero Tolerance Policy: Updated November 4, 2011 Effective immediately, anyone who makes a public reply to a Trading Post thread that is designed to interfere with the sale will lose their right to participate in the Trading Post and may receive a temporary or permanent ban from the TGO community. Examples are replies stating that an item can be found cheaper elsewhere, that a price is too high, that you have a similar item for sale for less, etc. If you wish to haggle, do it privately with the seller. No one cares what you think about the price or availability of an item. Keep those remarks to yourself or forfeit your right to participate. In closing I want to make several observations... First, any online sales venue where private parties exchange goods -- be it TGO's Trading Post, Craigslist, eBay, etc. -- works solely on the element of trust in your fellow man. Money exchanges hands, sometimes preemptively, because we feel that we can trust the individual on the other side of the computer screen. I am grateful that TGO has had an excellent record in that regard. However when that trust is violated, there must be consequences and I am committed to ensuring that the consequences (a.) protect future buyers/sellers and (b.) are painful for the person who violated that trust. As a buyer or a seller, your word is only as good as your last transaction. Keep that in mind and always strive to protect your reputation by carrying through on every transaction in a timely manner. Second, and in conjunction with the above, I want to encourage everyone to use GOOD COMMUNICATION at all points of a transaction. Describe items for sale as accurately as possible. Do not over-sell the quality of an item if it has blemishes. Be honest and forthright. Also make sure that you stay in communication with the other party in a transaction. If there will be delays, communicate that to the other party publicly per the rules listed above. In this age of e-mail, cellular phones and Internet forums, there simply are very few valid excuses for not being able to communicate delays to the other person and therefore we will be extremely hard to persuade that you couldn't. As always if you have questions or concerns, feel free to PM me or another Staff member privately to discuss. Thanks! --David
