I've never seen anything like this before. There wasn't many people at this local auction, and prices for guns and knives were at near giveaway levels, so, being a good TGO member, I tried to do my part. I scored an 1894 Marlin in 38-40, a Colt DA 38, A Colt Bisley in 45 Colt, a Remington New Navy Cartridge Conversion with perfect ivory grips, a Cattaraugus pocket knife, and a Winchester pocket knife. Not pictured is a 1917 Commercial Smith and Wesson my father confiscated from me. I guess a blind hog finds an acorn once in a while.7 points

Today was the State Match. Her first year. Six months? since we started this as trip as a competition shooter. She came in 5th Overall in individual for .22 Target in her age group of 9-11 with a score of 104. Her team took 1st. She also scored the highest of anyone on our team in Recurve Archery in her age bracket at 25, however it was not high enough to place. For a first year, and quite a packed crowd, I was very impressed. Only 5 kids in her age group scored over 100 in .22 Target, with the highest being 179, her teammate and good friend. We are VERY proud of all the kids from Shelby County. Her friend, the same mentioned above also came in first for Target Air Rifle. I do believe she will be getting fitted for her jacket. The Heathen's final discipline was BB, however that was an extremely competitive field with all the top shooters shooting well above 250. While we nearly broke 200, it was not enough to place in the top ten. Next year looks very promising for her, I have already made the deal that if she brings home two separate 1st Place trophies from any invitational, or a single 1st place from State, I will buy her a $200 set of rhinestone covered eyes and ears from a local shop. She is ecstatic. We will take her to a final end of year shoot at the practice fields where I will let her loose with her AR and some Tannerite to show off to her friends.5 points

So I just saw this while cruising Instagram. I had to share it. Once I found out who it was made by, I went to Google because I was going to see about buying one for Monkey. Then I found the website and found out Monkey's not getting one. LOL The currency is not American and there's 5 digits to most. So yeah, we'll find something else! But I thought this was beautiful and wanted to share. It's called "Son of a Gun" and it's by ArtyA Watches.3 points

You made history. I think you're the first person that's ever gotten a good deal at a gun auction. Nice collection.3 points

So it is no secret that my heathen was raised around guns. She has been shooting since she was four years old. She started with a single shot bolt action .22 rimfire rifle and has progressed to where she can and does shoot an AR at the range. As she turned 9 last year she was eligible for 4H Shooting Sports this season. We signed her up and her first practice was in April. At her very first practice her coach inquired as to her experience shooting. I explained that she had a handful of years under her and I hoped he didn't have to unteach too much of what I had taught her. To my mild surprise he stated that she was a pure natural and asked if she would be interested in shooting the first match of the season, less than two months away. The Heathen is right handed, but left eye dominant. I have raised her to shoot left handed rifle. I am also cross dominant and it has never hindered me to shoot off-hand to my dominant eye. The coaches embraced this and let her do her own thing. They are all very impressed with her. They call her a natural and have been teaching her on Target Air Rifle, Sport Air Rifle, Target .22 and Sport .22. She also shoots archery. With a recurve. Nearly alone in that discipline as nearly everyone else shoots compound (bare, hunting and target.) The coaches are awesome, and have gone as far as to special order her a left handed Target Air Rifle and a left handed Target .22. They have that much faith in her talent. And on to that talent. Saturday was a dreary rainy day in Kentucky. But it didn't stop her. It was her first competition with less than two months experience on a Target Air Rifle. She placed 3rd. We are beyond thrilled.2 points

Sounds good, peejman! A bit sexist perhaps...but good. Since my medical retirement...I cook, clean, and sit around in my underwear. Yoga pants don't look good on me.2 points

I completely agree with you. I've had to stop from posting on this thread. I get so wound up I just want to scream to Heaven over it. And usually end saying some rather unkind things to boot. The lack of respect from our countrymen is mind boggling to me. I was raised to be polite, thoughtful, and courteous of others. Say the Pledge of Allegiance, stand for our Flag and National Anthem. Seems that those values, and many others, have been forgotten.2 points

Like KKing I can't go so far as to say I am thoroughly offended but I will say that the commercial was completely tasteless. I honestly would have been okay with the 'any mattress for the price of a twin' thing but the two guys knocking over the stacks of mattresses at the end was going too far. That part did turn my stomach a bit. I'll bet you a plug nickel that the person who came up with this ad is a 'millennial' who isn't old enough to actually remember 9/11/2001 as something they actually experienced and certainly not something they experienced as an adult. To them it is just something that happened in history and doing a commercial 'spoofing' 9/11 probably doesn't seem any more odd to them than doing a funny commercial about Visigoths sacking Rome. Keep in mind that many of the incoming High School freshmen this year probably weren't even born then and many 'young professionals' were likely no more than nine or ten years old. I am not saying that this makes it any better. What I am saying is that it appears that many millennials don't have the wherewithal to realize that their viewpoint on something isn't necessarily the same as everyone else, especially people not of their generation. The people appearing in the commercial seem to be fairly young, as well. Then, again, there have always been people willing to do anything if they thought they could make a buck off of it so my theory could be entirely bogus.2 points

Saw a new shop coming soon right off Mount Juliet Rd, "Guns and Ammo" across from Whitt's BBQ. IS this the first word or is this old news? Anyone here associated with it?1 point

I did once before. You'll know the pretty old brick house across the road from the nuclear plant on hwy 25. They auctioned it several years back. Among the contents, they simply listed rifle. I left there with a like new pre 64 Model 70 Winchester, target barrel, in 220 Swift, complete with original sling and 12x Weaver scope for a song. It doesn't happen often, however.1 point

So this week the wsj published a responsive editorial to this article. It is stellar "As for the campaign for zero cash in the service of negative interest rates, Mr. Rogoff’s brief is best seen not as detached scientific analysis but as a kind of left-wing crotchet. Strip away the technical pretense and what you have is politics. The author wants the government to control your money. It’s as simple as that." I bought a really nice quad rotor with 4K camera the other day just for this shoot. I'd love to get video near the car as the minigun nails it and you can see the shooter firing the gun at it and the car being destroyed. Lots of cool plans. I have a bunch of tannerite as well we will be shooting.1 point

My daughter is active in shooting. She works with cops, so she shoots what they shoot. Last weekend she was trying out her new M&P VTAC. I put a Model 19 in her hands (Beautiful nickel 6”) and said “Try this”. Needless to say she was impressed. I shoot them better than a Python.1 point

Ditto. Does this make me old? lol I still like the 185 grain rounds, and have maybe 500 JHP lying around for "special use."1 point

We are, Kevin and Kali With the world being what it is today, we just (Dec) purchased our first hand guns and received our carry permits. We live in Knox County and are thinking of setting up a hand gun range on our property. One of our jobs takes us to diverse areas of Tn, Ky, Ga, Va, and Al. So having a little something to go is a great relief. We also own rental homes and our interests vary from our Harley (Road Glide) PS4 (not so much since we got our guns) doing our own rehabs on houses, Kali loves to garden and reclaim furniture and decorations for the yard. For our home we have the Glock 17 4th gen, I carry the 43 and my wife has the 42 (380) Also from one of our renters we got a Marlin 22L rifle, it seems he thought someone was upstairs and having not used it for 3 years he fumbled and shot a hole in the French door window. No one was hurt no animals just a $68.00 window. When we went out to secure the window he asked me to take the rifle as he said he clearly shouldn’t have a weapon LOL. Were mid 50’s and have been in Knoxville since 2000. Thanks for having a great site.1 point

Well, we got one in. And because of YOU guys, I really wanted to hate it. But I can't. Dang, it feels really good in the hand, sights are excellent, even has a forward edge to use on a table if you HAVE to, and the trigger is surprisingly good. Like the weight of it, too. Feels like a "real" gun. You pansy trolls need to suck it up, buttercups.1 point

We have a fair amount of decent activity down this end of the state. Folk around here complain about "no activity", but due to mountaintop repeaters, it is substantially more active than Atlanta or Memphis (I think). real-time SHTF still requires planning, setup, and practice. That is where the license comes in handy. You can then do those things with little fanfare or attention to yourself. And... sans practice, real SHTF Coms are chaotic, even counterproductive. Next, .gov already knows who you are, so an address in >one more database< won't make a lot of difference. Don't kid yourself that you are hidden just because you don't have a license for a radio. Don't kid yourself that you can find a "hidden" frequency. In the day of SDR technology, anyone can hear you...instantly (bandscope & DVR are common now. Finding you might take slightly longer, but you if you are on the air, you are already known by anyone with a few $ of Amazon.com gear like an SDRPlay)1 point

You're thinking RefferMac! You are far ahead of the pack brother! Reholstering any handgun should always be a deliberate and purposeful act. There is no such critter as "speed reholstering". I've carried daily for at least 26 years and I am always cautious when reinserting the gun back into the holster..external safety of not. I predominately carry a G 19 appendix IWB. There is nothing wrong with "looking the gun" into the holster, with the "tilt" of the base of the holster out as you mentioned. It will become more intuitive over time..but one should never become complacent with any aspect of gun handling. IMHO the majority of self inflicted gunshot wounds come from complacency and inattention. Dolo of course is right. Dry Fire practice is essential for improvement. Practice with dummy rounds or simply an empty gun will gain you a lot in the long run. I'm not familiar with the holster you cited, but as long as it's secure and doesn't shift I'm sure it'll serve you well. I second shotgunshooter's recommendation for professional training, especially with Randy (Cruel Hand Luke). But he's a friend, so I am biased. Ingraining skills under a watchful professional eye such as with Randy can help prevent training scars which take a good bit of effort to "unlearn".1 point

I've been watchin this a bit to get the lay parts of the discussion...The disparaging and "caliber war" parts, especially....Here is a dispatch from the long ago... I'm old enough to remember when there was a revolutionary new addition to that greatest killer of them all, the 45ACP... It showed up in the seventies and i shot a bunch of 'em thru various 1911's, and handloaded em by the hundreds (...maybe even to the 1000's...)... It wuz called the "flying ashtray"... An instant "defensive ammo" success... It wuz a 185 grain JHP loaded to about 1000 fps... Heralded as a "game changer; and more likely a "game ender"... And it wuz if ya got hit by one... .Everybody loved 'em who pined for something "better" than the old "hardball" loads in the ACP... Things were saner in those days, and no one dared call a 185 grain, 1000 fps 45CP load "wimpy" or "short and weak"... Fast forward until today... Thirty five or so years later, folks call a 40 caliber, 180 grain JHP travelling at 950 FPS "inadequate"... "short and weak", etc... Ya get the picture... My have things have changed... Think about it... leroy, the "rememberer of the old days"...1 point

We just got home from her second meet. She got to sight in her new .22 target rifle last weekend. It was hot and she was tired. She wanted to roll through the stances and not continue prone, so we got a semi solid zero on it and called it a day. This week was the Fleming County Invitational. Her first meet with her new left handed .22 Target and .22 Sport rifles. She took 3rd in .22 Target Individual and 1st in .22 Target Team. I will try and get pictures up when we get the trophies on Tuesday. I am BEYOND thrilled with her, and she could not be more excited. Her mother is concerned as the eventuality of logic states that she will go to a match and not place, but so far we are two out of two. The upside though is that we will definitely be attending the state invitational.1 point

They invited to me to volunteer and coach, but I am afraid with my work commitments I would not be able to fully commit. They have 8(?) disciplines, and each requires a weekend of training, offered twice a year. It is only $250 for each certification, but I work seven days a week, so being able to be useful would be another matter entirely. My wife is currently stepping up and filling in as the coordinator, so we at least have one member of the family volunteering.1 point

UT & UK probably have the best shooting programs in the us outside the military schools. As long as it's fun it will build her personal character and responsibility. This just makes me smile.1 point

Proud doesn't even begin to describe it. She and I have always had fun shooting. Her mother accepts it, but doesn't participate much. We did the soccer thing for several years, but she didn't enjoy it. As soon as she was eligible for this she asked to join. The idea is to help her with her concentration, patience and attention. She is amazing when she has the rifle in her hands. There were several hundred kids at the competition Saturday. The coaches had stated several times that they expected her to place, but when I saw the sheer number of competitors, I wasn't as certain. She however was. She had a lot of fun. Some of the alumni of the county team have gone on to the UK Shooting Team, which is now the Heathen's goal.1 point

Her off hand form looks very good! It sounds like you have found some good coaches for her. That is so awsome! In my rifle league before moving to TN I had the pleasure to be thoroughly beaten by 2 young ladies that went on to school at UT Knox and one is an alternate for the Olympic team. She deserves to be bragged on by her proud dad1 point
