I'll just right ahead and say look at the Ruger AR556 and Smith & Wesson M&P Sport II. Both are excellent choices in the $650 price range (more or less, ideally less). Don't get all wound up on the absurd amount of options and variations. Start simple.3 points

A slogan in 2012 was, "if you voted for Barack in '08 to prove you aren't racist, vote for Romney in '12 to prove you aren't stupid." Didn't work. No improvement from either party this year either. - OS3 points

You know, that's clearly her gun and she's using a holster. I don't get it. Why some of us have to find something to "help" any woman with a weapon with is probably the reason we don't have more women on the board. Looking at her Instagram page, it appears she spends a lot more time in the field and a lot more time shooting than most of us.3 points

If it's bent, and I had time to wait, I would get a replacement. Falls into the "why not" category.2 points

That's why global warming still exists. Keep funding the research and you'll get the results you want.2 points

I would let that go if it was a budget build using standard parts and that was a standard spring, maybe. Buy I'm very particular about my stuff and no way I would let that go being a JP. Heck, it would drive me crazy just knowing it's like that in there.2 points

Start learning how to cook some serious food. Your brothers will love you cause all the girls like a man that can cook. While it is hot do the grill thing but really try to kick it up. When it starts to cool off cook a big pot of chili and keep a pot of cinnamon apple cider going. I've known someone to keep 2 stacks of cups. One stack for the cute girls with his phone number written on it and another stack for everyone else Mark1 point

Ok...looks like a possible addition to my never ending tool box. That's all for the product. Now for the long commercial...it was great!1 point

As mentioned earlier, you aren't really "upgrading" your shotgun, you're just getting a different weapon. I'll be the wet blanket that says building an AR before you've had your hands on one for a bit isn't anything I'd recommend. To me, that's like learning how to repair a car before you learn how to drive. First, try to shoot one if you haven't already. I'm sure you can find a rental, or a TGO member in your area that will let you get some time behind one. You might find that you don't like it, and an AK is more to your style. If you're still wanting to go with an AR after that, first stop would be to find a good used one if I was buying now with your budget. If you want new out of the box, I'd buy an Anderson or PSA over the Ruger or S&W models mentioned, but that's a personal taste. You can even post a want to buy ad in the trading post if you don't see one you like. This is where you'll want to ask a lot of questions and do some research on your own. Just because someone is selling a gun here isn't a guarantee of quality, just a less likely chance of getting screwed. Once you know you like ARs, have one in hand, get to Carnegie hall. That means practice, practice, practice. Use the cleaning time after your practice to learn the innards of the gun, watch as many videos on it as you like. The AR is simple enough to start with, but getting to a higher level takes time.1 point

Does the military teach you which rifles under $1,000 are best in the civilian market? Guess I need to tell my buddy that was SF that he got screwed, he came out knowing little to nothing of how to put together an AR. How to maintenance one, sure. But actually disassemble, upgrade, and reassemble...no sir. OP, If you're looking for actual info, you're in the right place. As far as budget friendly options I don't think you can go wrong with either the Ruger 5.56 or the S&W entry models.1 point

Very nice. Is that one from the Ex-Gurkha Khukuri House in Nepal? The sheath looks like one of theirs. If so, I have read good things about them and have thought about looking at getting one but have never been able to directly ask the opinion of anyone who owns one. I honestly don't know what the heck I would do with one but that doesn't stop the wants from happening. The EGKH supposedly makes theirs out of old leaf springs from trucks, jeeps, etc. Did yours come with the small knife and the blade sharpener also included in the sheath?1 point

Were it mine, I'd probably take it out of the package and see how much of the bend is caused by the plastic/label being chewed up. They shouldn't take a set from being in a box unless they're actually damaged (a bend/kink you can actually see.) I expect if you take it out of the plastic, they'll straighten out fine.1 point

Sure hope it was a selfie, extended mag, one in the pipe and finger on the trigger...either way no sympathy here either.1 point

Here's what I sent to JoeBob: Hello, I called and spoke to Joseph a couple minutes ago about the JP springs I received yesterday, and he requested I send a picture of what I was talking about. I have attached it. When I get home I will also take a picture of the packing slip and packer's initials as requested. I understand that these bends, especially the rifle spring, may not be dramatic in nature. However, I am a little bummed about oredering a premium product designed to reduce buffer noise arriving like this. I have to imagine that a spring now predisposed to this shape is more apt to rub and scrape inside a buffer tube more than a straight spring. Thanks for you consideration, and I'll follow up with the picture of the packing slip later tonight. Thanks!1 point

Well, if it were a Marlin 60 spring, it would likely fail. But an AR spring -- if it works, it works, and will keep working. - OS1 point

I look at it like this, if it concerns me enough to ask, then it's enough to request another. You may want to mention how they were packaged, I'm sure if they continue doing it that way it will keep being an issue.1 point

That one on the left looks fine but the other one was bent badly on one of the coils from the looks of it. Even if you specifically reverse bend the affected coil, it will always tend to have that over bend week spot right there and return to a slight bend there after shooting. I would send that picture to JP Ent. and see what they say. Its still a usable spring of course but chances are it will never be somewhat straight again like the other one. JMO1 point

Glock 20 Gen4. I pretty much only shoot Underwood & Atlanta Arms Ammo. Both feed great!1 point

Does this one have BTF? Does this one have Gen 3 reliability? After that is sorted out and IF my Gen 3's get boring to me, then I'll buy one. Hopefully they keep the MOS version around.1 point

You're right....but they don't and won't. If people minded their own business, Facebook would have stayed what it started out as (a way to reconnect and stay in touch with people).....instead of what it has become.... a drama filled instigator of depression (people comparing their real lives to other people's "highlight reel" on FB). They should have known not to post those photos.... They probably have some disposable income to their name (big $$$ hunting trips).... so I'm guessing they're naive as hell and not stupid....1 point

It takes that damned bump out of the trigger so I no longer twitched at the break. It actually did remove the occasional left flyer from my groups.1 point

What makes me SMH are all the white people at these scenes, like they have any inkling on what any of that is about.1 point

There's nothing that can be done that will appease these people. They are stupid and have no reasoning skills. They are the product of generational intentional ignorance that is an affliction in all of the "hoods" across America. Some people survive and get out, but mostly they succumb to stupidity. An environment of entitlement egged on by the idea that white people or those with money owe them something. A guy murdered a cop in cold blood a few years ago in my hometown. A real winner with face tattoos and the whole nine. He was recently in the news about how much time he got(or little, 30 years for shooting a cop in the face twice at point blank range). He'll prob get out in 15 years. All these subhuman fools are posting in the comments, "Free my boo Corey" or "why don't cops get jail time for killing innocent blacks?" I am sincerely astounded at how retarded these people are, and it makes me angry. I don't want to let it get to me, but it does. I know black people that won't even talk to me anymore because they have succumbed to the idea that because I don't support them in their mindless cause that I am the enemy. Or, because I'm a gun enthusiast that I am somehow an ignorant redneck hellbent on keeping the black man down. It blows my mind. Historically, is this normal? Was it this widespread back during the LA riots? Did it cause this much racial tension?1 point

Me too. With this being a gun forum I was expecting to see a bunch of pistols with their mags out stacked on top of each other.1 point

A flared magwell helps create more of a funnel to aid in mag insertion in stressful/high speed situations. It's pretty much a standard feature on any race/competition gun to help reduce fumbling, etc.1 point
