  1. I had all of these out today to make some sheaths for my Etsy shop and felt the need to get a group photo. From left to right is the Husqvarna 13" Hatchet, Gransfors Bruk #410 Mini Hatchet, Wetterlings #115 Hunter Hatchet, Gransfors Bruk #415 Wilderness Hatchet, and Gransfors Bruk #420 Small Forest Axe. Although I bought these primarily for making sheaths, they do get some use as well. It goes without saying that the Gransfors tools are simply works of art, but the prize for the best handle goes to the Wetterlings with it's super grain that is parallel and very tight. My favorite for size, weight, and functionality is probably the GB Wilderness Hatchet. The GB Mini is a super cool little cutting tool that I think, in the right hands, can easily take on many tasks commonly reserved for a knife. I've owned the Wetterlings the longest and I've given it plenty of use for splitting logs for a campfire, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Since the bit is ground a little thicker than the GB hatchets, it tends to be my go-to hatchet around the house and when car camping. For the money, the Husqvarna is the best bang for your buck since the head is Swedish steel forged by Hultafors Bruk and is fitted to a good quality hickory handle. I think one would be hard pressed to find a better hatchet with the quality and features it has for less than it's $40 price tag.

  2. It may be a tinfoil moment, but part of me is starting to think this whole thing was staged in no small part. I don't doubt there are/were parts of the military that would want to do this, but it's all gone down too perfectly for Erdogan so far. 1) One of the most anti-internet leaders uses FaceTime to rally his people to the streets...they seemed too ready, almost as if they were waiting and mobilized on cue. 2) He flies into Ataturk airport? That would have been one of the first places to be secured by the military. Tanks could have been parked on the runways at 300-500 meter intervals to prevent a plane from landing. If I had to speculate, he let a movement against him gain root in the army, all the while having officers loyal to him inside it, and when the coup was launched, the ones that really wanted him gone were the only ones standing out in the breeze while the rest of the army was back in the barracks. Erdogan can use this as an excuse to purge his officer corps, and install more crackdowns on dissent domestically. Or maybe I'm just seeing things.

  3. As a kid we weren't greatly endowed in the money department, but my grandfather had a farm in Blountville. We always had a couple of big gardens in the summer and the grand-kids of a certain age were enlisted in picking, preparing, and canning the bounty. It's how we managed to get through the winter. It wasn't all work. The meals my grandmother fixed were some of the best home cooking ever. And usually the kids managed to have time for an unruly game of tackle football. I've spent the day canning green beans from my garden and I've reminisced to my wife the whole time. So to get to the point of my old man rant, how many others spent their summers in a similar way?

  4. I want to be. Never done it and didn't put in a garden this year, but I want to go to the farmer's market and get some fresh vegetables to can. We have a pressure cooker and some sort of canning kit, I need to figure out what all of it is.

  10. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/473524/redfield-rebel-binocular-roof-prism?cm_mmc=pe_weekly-_-clearance-_-20160715-_-20160715 A few years ago, I paid about $150 for these for a gift to my son. I thought I stole them at that price! These are less than $58, with free shipping. In my opinion, you'd have to spend more than $500 to get a better binocular. I ordered another just to keep in my work truck.

  11. We freeze lots of tomatoes. Blanch and skin them, then put in freezer bags. We've also frozen corn basically the same way. Wife made a batch of strawberry jam from the you-pick strawberry place earlier this year.

  13. I don’t think open carry of a rifle should be illegal. For me personally I just feel open carry is a bad idea and it has nothing to do with cops or scaring the public; it is what my training and experiences has taught me. But no one is asking me to be responsible for the open carry folks; so they need to do whatever they are ready to take responsibility for. However…open carry of a rifle certainly comes with responsibility. If you are going to open carry any kind of a gun to a hate group rally; you need to have some extreme situational awareness. When someone starts shooting people from the crowd like they did in Dallas and you are standing by them, there is a very good possibility you are going to get killed. Open carrying in your day to day business as you make your rounds around town is something very different than open carrying at a hate rally. If the latter becomes a problem open carry will simply be banned.

I guess he couldn't sell Garufa on his hyper automated super duper state of the art pull/pack system justifying the shipping changes. Sill neat they sent you a book shaft, when was the last time you ordered ,maybe they were doing a promo?

  15. The lawful and open carry of rifles was the only thing ALLOWED to be openly carried by Texas law before the recent advent of handgun open carry in Texas......concealed carry was by permit only. They won a gain in the ability to exercise their 2A rights and I applaud all those who dared to be so bold as to actually dare to exercise their rights. We on here have complained about needing a permission slip from the state to exercise our god given inalienable right to bear arms and have advocated for "constitutional" carry, as in no permit needed. Now, as I believe, the courts have ruled numerous times that concealed carry can be regulated. So wouldn't that mean that open carry can not be regulated? That open carry is how one would exercise that very right? How do you reconcile the free and unencumbered exercise of a right and yet still want to attach infringements to it? I will not criticize anyone who wishes to carry and exercise their rights in any manner they wish to. Those who think open carry is not a good idea then how about you don't do it then. Hold your tongue and try not to call those that do stupid or even attention hogs. Really? They are advancing the idea that good "normal" looking people carry firearms whereas hiding it under your shirt does absolutely nothing to normalize the carry of firearms in public. I support anyone who wishes to carry in any manner they wish. They are on our side I believe. Carry however you wish and I will carry how I wish, shake your hand if we meet, and if you are concealed please don't feel the need to show it to me. Many have done that and also thanked me for openly carrying and I have always asked why they didn't. So if you are in and around Dandridge and see some stupid guy openly carrying its probably me, say hello.

  16. We did some canning when I was a kid. I remember it being terribly hot drudgery. Now we recently got a hand-me-down canner and started doing it ourselves. While it was a good bit of work and took most of a day, the results were satisfying.

  18. It does not have to be longer, you just have to be able to return the rifle to original registered configuration. ie... you are can it registered as a .30 cal 8" barrel and also have a 4" .22. Just don't get rid of the one that its made with, or at least same size. Also in caliber, they are looking for the size of the bullet not cartridge. so a .300 aac blackout would be registered as a .30 cal. Hope this helps.

  20. I haven't been there since it started getting hot, but unless they made some major changes in the last few months, my info should still be okay... how crowded is it on weekends? It can get pretty crowded on a normal weekend, but not more so than any other range. Their location in the middle of an out of the way place like Woodbury helps keep it under control compared to a central location like say Stones River. If you can swing it, going there on a weekday is a breeze and quite enjoyable. Do you have to wait for rifle lanes? I've never had to wait for one, but if they have a full crowd, then yes. They only have about 12-15. There is no real timing system, people pay their $5, and in theory, they could occupy a lane all day long. Your real wait will be in between firing. They don't use any kind of range control, so it's a collective decision when the range is cold or hot, and you can go check/change targets. If there are people shooting at the 200yd target, the time for them to walk there and back can be a minute. Can I drive my vehicle close to the area where you shoot? (I usually bring a bunch of guns) If not, about how far do you have to walk? For the rifle range, you park right behind the covering for the firing line. The pistol areas have parking too, but not right next to all of them, so you may have to walk about 25-50yds from the car to the range area. Not too bad at all. Also worth note, if there is a carry permit class going on, they'll have exclusive use of a pistol bay for their quals. There are four bays overall, so there should be pistol slots open regardless.

  22. Just one more reason I am not an advocate for open carry. I think it's easy to point to multiple reasons why it's a bad idea. I'm also highly certain many places have posted their businesses specifically in response to these people who choose to OC, most of whom I believe do it for attention.

  24. For the most part this was all staged IMO and was never a real coup. A coup never takes place while the leader and Prime Minister is out of the country because they are the ones the Coup leaders want to catch and hold onto and they all knew they were out of the country. It was said that the Coup had control of both airports yet his plane was able to land without incident. The leader of Turkey is trying to re write the Constitution of Turkey and make it an Islamic country. All the Mosques were contacted and told to get all of their people into the streets to resist the Coup. With in minutes 1000's of people were filling the streets. It was said that the population of Turkey is about 50/50 Turkish / Islamic not counting the 1000's of refugees at the border. Either way this is not going to be good for America.............jmho

  26. This is the perfect counterpoint to those that rally to take away our gun rights after any kind of terrorist attack. I've been saying all along, just wait until the bad guys get tired of picking people one by one off with a gun. It took the Orlando terrorist three hours and he killed 50 people. This guy in France kills almost double that in less than a minute. And it could have been even worse if he had been able to carry his plan out to the end. A person with evil in their heart will find a way to kill people. Taking away the gun from good people is ridiculous. Are we going to see politicians rallying to enact any kind of legislation restricting Semi Truck ownership? Of course not. But why not? Turns out the Semi is way more deadly than an AR-15. And, in the end, it was good guys with guns that eventually end every one of these conflicts.

  27. Yeah I just seen that they fired 5 of their supreme court judges (or whatever their high court is called) and almost 3,000 other judges/prosecutors. http://www.dailysabah.com/politics/2016/07/16/supreme-board-of-judges-and-prosecutors-hsyk-lays-off-2745-judges It appears the mopping up of the coup was planned better than the coup itself.

  32. Just turned on Sky News to get some info about this. If the military has turned against Erdogan, yet doesn't pull this off in a felt swoop, a civil war could break out. NATO and the EU have to be very worried about the 2nd and 3rd order effects from this.

  41. So we are deciding between a Glock 19 and a 1911? Seriously, you just need experience shooting other guns. I wouldn’t walk across the street to get a Glock for free if I had to keep it. But obviously some people like them. Maybe you can get a group in your area to shoot somewhere together. Then you could try different guns. I have several samples of different handguns if someone in the Murfreesboro area that has land wanted to do this.

  43. I like Glocks and 1911's . They are very easy to detail strip without hardly any tools. I like the Glocks for reliability and the fact that they have so few parts. The 1911's are great when you fine ones that will run reliably. I find the Springfield fullsize ones in Mil-Spec will run great out of the box. I carry those and Glocks. I have gotten to the point where I will not own a firearm unless I can detail strip the whole thing down to all springs and pins and do all my own work on them. For example I like the Beretta M9/FS but I detail stripped one and the amount of springs and so many parts made me think about what could go wrong. CZ's are great ! I love CZ's but they have a gazillion parts !!!!! Plus I want very good parts availability , like where I can get them without going on the internet and I cant do that with CZ nor much others.

I assume other stores did as well. I have not taken the time to figure out how many bottles that is but it surely is a shiznit ton more than what has been around lately. I did sell a $1K bottle of Scotch yesterday, dude was totally buying it for his trophy shelf. I gave him a real strong discount to help him out. Boss was happy. It was the highest dollar one bottle sale I have ever made. Yay me!
