As you may be aware, the site was offline for the past 12 hours so that we could perform some work to address the slowness issues that were affecting the site. I am not convinced that we are out of the woods just yet. This problem may reoccur. At present, I cannot tell you whether the problem was the result of something wrong with a software upgrade, or with the forum database, or merely a lack of sufficient resources to meet demand, or something more sinister. We have dealt with Denial of Service attacks in the past and this looked very similar to them in quite a few ways, however our hosting provider did not confirm that anything like a DoS was happening. I am speaking with the hosting provider today to evaluate the cost and benefit of adding more resources to our server. Anything we add will carry a monthly cost. It is times like this that I am extremely appreciative of the Benefactor members who support the site financially, and of the Vendors who advertise with us. It is times like this that I also urge you to support the shops who support TGO and spend your money elsewhere when considering the shops that don't. "Vote" with your wallets and ask shops that don't support TGO to do so. Let them know that this community is important to you and that it should be important to them also. It takes money to run TGO. So... one last thought: If the site starts slowing down again today, please don't pile traffic onto the problem just to post and tell us "The site is slow". We'll know it is before you do, most likely. Posting about it just adds more burden to the server and doesn't help me get it fixed any faster. While I appreciate the frustration you guys are feeling as members of TGO trying to access the site you enjoy so much, I am feeling a lot of frustration behind the scenes while I am working and trying to stabilize things. Sorry for the problems, folks.5 points

While I'm pretty much a cheapskate I would be willing to pay more for my Benefactor status to keep things protected and going smooth.....just sayin'.4 points

UPDATE: Tumblers are due to be delivered to me today! Tracking number shows them as out for delivery. With luck I will have these boxed up and going out to folks by Saturday! (Got to get my kids to help me box all of these up)4 points

That's unfortunate really. It's one thing to not like it having at least been there. I am guessing you wouldn't go to any major city and that's ok, but you miss out on a lot. It has some of the greatest architecture in the US. To each his own, but I hope others don't judge it by only what they hear.3 points

Once you do one you'll end up with several. Checked my closet last night and I've got 5, could have sworn it was only 2. All joking aside if you end up going the build route I can help you out with that because I've got all the tools assemble uppers and lowers.3 points

I'm not seeing the nose dive. They don't appear to be up for the year, but the day, week and month seem to be in the black. I'm not a Pandora user, but I just don't see the market at large punishing this.3 points

We've been seeing a lot of "Guest" browsing. That's folks who aren't logged in or aren't registered as members, reading content. This is different than Google, Yahoo, Bing or other search engine spiders combing the threads. Those show up entirely differently. No, these are actual people reading threads anonymously. In order to preserve resources for folks who are actually members and who are logged in, I have set the forum to show thread titles but not thread content to guests. This won't affect search engines like Google, but it will affect the lookie-loo's who are putting a load on the server without contributing anything in return. More to come. The hosting company just hit me with a recommendation that would almost double my monthly expenses with them. I'm sure it would be a bad-ass server, but the cost is hard to swallow.3 points

I feel like I should go out and buy a lottery ticket. Yesterday morning in the Millington Walmart they had 300 round boxes of CCI Mini Mags and today I stopped at the one over in Raleigh and they had a stack of CCI Maxi Mags.2 points

I would leave my gun as well. Yes, Chicago is a liberal cesspool, but unless you are going in areas that most of us would never go, you are not going to have an issue. Where exactly are you going to be? If you are downtown, you will be fine. Just use common sense like in any big city and be aware of your surroundings. Chicago is a great city to with a lot to offer. Some of the best museums in the world and a great aquarium. Hell, there are shootings every day in Nashville now, but I suspect not where most of us are going.2 points

There are days lately I'd like to have my dial-up modems back! This... This was "the business" right here, just before I went broadband back in 1997.1 point

I don't know where you get racism from BLM since they aren't advocating the superiority of African Americans over others. Supporting BLM doesn't equate to being anti-police. I don't see anything in Pandora's statement leading me to that as a reasonable opinion.1 point

Spotify is far superior anyway, IMO. I switched yesterday when I saw their stance. I'm very happy with the increased functionality of Spotify1 point

Their first sentence was "Our hearts ache for all those who unfairly lost their lives." Just because five police officers lost their lives in the line of duty doesn't nullify that there is racial injustice. Maybe it was an omission that they didn't mention the police officers specifically, but I'm not upset by it. It's also worth noting that BLM had nothing to do with the shooter and vice versa.1 point

Why should just one color of folks lives matter? All lives matter. If they have ever "had" to take a life they would understand this!1 point

Nice video. I don't have an issue with the c4 if they thought that was their best option. I am more annoyed they wasted a $150k robot to do it.1 point

I agree with your comments today. Your analysis is spot on with what I was thinking and questioning. We also agree on the use of the C4 and the bomb disposal robot. My wife asked me why it couldn't have had a pistol or rifle used instead of the explosives. I told her I wasn't sure this particular robot could fire a weapon, but that I wondered about the use of it to kill the shooter. And that I had reservations about the method. My thoughts were along the lines of excessive force. But I wasn't there. I didn't have to make life and death decisions, so I'm not going to judge.1 point

Ha! New from Hersheys, a confectioners tribute to the Tennessee Legislature - the SNAFUBAR. It is, of course, full of nuts as well as empty calories which really contribute nothing to the flavor, texture or nutritional value. As for the rest of the ingredients, like most of the legislation they pass, we really aren't sure what the hell is in there but regardless it is probably pretty useless. Sorry, your combining of 'SNAFU' and 'FUBAR' really struck me as funny. As for the birth date on the license, yeah, I thought it might be a mistake so when I went in person to renew my permit I asked about it. The lady at the counter told me that it isn't a mistake and that now driver's licenses expire (after eight years, of course) on the date that they were renewed/processed.1 point

Well, kinda. I came from a small town south of the city, but I still have a fondness for it that I think most don't want to consider because of what they hear. The city is more than gang bangers and liberals. I am not saying move there, but everyone should see it at least once. Well to be fair Mike, only when I am around you . You bring out the best in people...1 point

Thanks. Yeah, I am a member over there also. The new password requirements they put into place are absurd.1 point

Maybe it's possible you handled a gen4 when you first looked at them in Gander but bought a gen3 and that's why it feels different to you???? Just a thought...1 point

Forget your gun. Leave it here. Chitcago is a liberal cess pool. I wouldn't go to Chitcago with a dozen hired professionals from Academi.1 point

As do I. Which is why we have been looking at this as potentially a DoS attack. That type of attack can look like legitimate web traffic.1 point

I've got a 35 year old Homelite hand-me-down that runs like a top. It runs on 35:1 gas, smokes, and is loud as hell, but it runs great. I think the newer power equipment designed to run on 50:1 or leaner ratios have such small passages that it makes them prone to getting gummed up regardless of how often they're used. That said, my bow saw and loppers get a lot more use for simple pruning. Add a pole saw for tall stuff and that's really all you need.1 point

Don't store your saw with gas in if you don't use it often. Drain the tank and then start the saw and let it run dry.1 point

What's the big deal about a purge now? I purge my body at least twice a day and no one gets upset. Guess I should put it on Bookface and people will care. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk1 point

Probably not the best 1st post a bit out of left field... but giving you the benefit of the doubt I'll say... Stay out of the way and don't give the LEO's another person to worry about.1 point

Just a suggestion--given the political environment, i would buy a solid rifle off the rack yesterday. This could be a Ruger AR-556, M&P Sport, DPMS XYZ, etc. Given the $600 price point, i don't think you would loose any money if you shot the hell out of it and decided to sale it two years from now. Now that you've got a solid gun in the safe, start building the gun you want. The entry level gun will help show you what you like and don't like. If panic sets in, you've got a rifle in the safe. If not, build what you want and sale the other.1 point

The 17 is the same dimension around as the 19. The only difference is the length. If you have a full 3 finger grip on the 19, the 17 won't be any "better." The Glock angle does take some getting used to. I will tell you, for me, Glocks are adequate shooters. They don't group for me nearly as well as a CZ, or Ruger SR series pistol, or a 1911.... or anything, lol. But, at a practical defensive distance, it is certainly good enough. I wouldn't want to aim for the fences with them, though.1 point

We not only have to worry about the dems/libs but also the rinos. We are pretty much screwed to the wall!1 point

I like Glocks and 1911's . They are very easy to detail strip without hardly any tools. I like the Glocks for reliability and the fact that they have so few parts. The 1911's are great when you fine ones that will run reliably. I find the Springfield fullsize ones in Mil-Spec will run great out of the box. I carry those and Glocks. I have gotten to the point where I will not own a firearm unless I can detail strip the whole thing down to all springs and pins and do all my own work on them. For example I like the Beretta M9/FS but I detail stripped one and the amount of springs and so many parts made me think about what could go wrong. CZ's are great ! I love CZ's but they have a gazillion parts !!!!! Plus I want very good parts availability , like where I can get them without going on the internet and I cant do that with CZ nor much others.1 point
