Well now the Minnesota Governor has said Castile was killed because he was black. How could he possibly know that? And why would he say something like that? What an idiot.3 points

I'm hopeful that our country will come out the back end of this with stronger protections for individuals. While it's causing a lot of pain right now, it's also shining a bright light on problems in a lot of cases. I could probably say a lot about this, but I'll just say I'm sympathetic. You'll hear a lot of people push back, but as a general rule they're not black and dead because they had a broken taillight or were selling loose cigarettes.3 points

Just wanted to give a shout out about GT. I bought the Stinking Big Knife this week. All I can say the pics do not do it justice at all. It is a huge knife, finish is great and it is so freaking sharp. The guys at work were in amazed at the finish and the size of the knife. For those on the fence about GT knifes, you are missing a chance to get a hand made knife like no other I have held in my hand. You just cant beat a hand made custom knife. Thanks Much GT!!!2 points

These are stats from a n article referencing data posted by the Washington Post. Black Male Americans are 40x more likely to be killed by another black male than by a cop.2 points

I always build my own so I get exactly what I want. It's extremely satisfying to get a sub-moa rifle from parts that you assembled yourself. Plus, you know how to work on it later down the road if necessary. I usually order most parts online and buy the stripped lower receiver at my LGS. I used this video series to help walk me through my first build. http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/lid=11004/guntechdetail/how_to_build_an_ar-15_video You asked for some other links... joeboboutfitters.com dsgarms.com brownells.com midwayusa.com skdtac.com bravocompanyusa.com there are many others, but those a few that come to mind. This is fun too... http://www.ar15builder.com2 points

I'm pretty sure this is the first time I've had great coffee in the company of soldiers with drop leg holsters (FN, 45?) and long rifles slung. All I want to know is what they are carrying in their IFAKs. haha. They do things different here in Belgium.2 points

Always build your own AR. Rarely are people happy with a purchased one. You buy it then change this and change that and you got more in it than if you just bought the parts you wanted in the first place.2 points

As much as I hate panic buying, if one of your options is "wait" to buy anything AR related, go with the other option Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Fitty, another thought provoking and common sense video. Sadly you are in the minority (with the rest of us) that try to use objective logic to understand the sequence of events. This country is going nuts faster than we can blink.2 points

The 1911 design is just fine, I have several that are great and as near 100% as anything else I have. The real issue with the 1911 these days is that companies like kimber have tried too hard to make them into something that were never intended to be. Match accuracy guns for defense. To me those two are mutually exclusive. If you want to spend $1500+ on a 1911 go ahead but don't expect 100% reliability and match accuracy from a factory gun. The small gain in accuracy costs too much in reliability for a defensive gun. Serial production doesn't allow for the hand work it takes to make one run and be that tight. Plenty of gunsmiths have made a good living doing that for those that will pay the cost... I used to carry a commander and would still be using it daily if 9mm ammo hadn't improved so much. Now I choose a P320 in 9mm same size more capacity and I don't care if it gets a bit uglier from daily carry. I didn't change because of reliability.2 points

I had been wanting to own a Bullpup rifle for years. I almost bought and FS2000 years ago, but decided to plop the money down on an Arsenal AK instead. Then the Tavor comes along and I kinda fell in love with it. This year at SHOT show, IWI announced they were going to release the Tavor in my favorite modern caliber, 300 Blackout. I finally decided to take the plunge. I preordered a Tavor SAR 300blk back in March. Initially, they were supposed to be released in April/May so I wanted to go ahead and get an order out there. Then it gets pushed from May to July. Back at NRAAM, I got to play with one and really fell in love. Then Tuesday I find out that they have been delayed until Q1 2017. I can't wait that long, especially with Hillary potentially becoming president in November so I went ahead and ordered a normal Tavor. Just picked it up. So I guess I'm finally in that Bullpup life. I love this thing. Anyone else into bullpups? Here's my new rifle: And mostly kitted up:1 point

If Ak's are M1A2 Abrams (tank), then Yugo M70's are German Leopard 2A7's. Great guns, well-built top shelf quality, CHF barrel. Drawbacks: uses only Yugo pattern furniture and some parts are Yugo specific, barrel is not chrome lined..1 point

Post the link to what you're lookibg at on PSA. As to others, Primary Arms has good stuff, and their shipping is about as good as it gets in gun sales. Just stay with known brands and you'll be fine. Also, do you have a work bench and a vise at home? You'll need one to assembme it correctly if you're building the upper instead of getting a complete one.1 point

Nope, if you have the means to afford to operate a Dodge Viper on a daily basis then keep on enjoying it. But if just being blond girl with an expensive sports car is the only motivation behind the stops then I applaud you for the foresight in setting up the car recording system.1 point

Given that I don't know what happened since I wasn't there, I will say - as a former LEO - that there's a big difference in body language and movement between retrieving your license and drawing a weapon to shoot an officer. If the subject did tell the officer that he was armed and licensed to carry then said officer should have been real alert to the difference. Many people are conditioned to do what the LEO commands without giving thought to how they are doing it. He may have heard the command to present his license/registration, and gave no heed to the quickness of his response to the demand. I'm also aware that there are more than a few LEOs out there that are more afraid than cautious, and they shouldn't be in the profession. Again, I don't know, but I think a reasonable person would assume that there's more to the story than mere racism. I never knew any cop who was just itch'n to kill someone. Fitty: Excellent video.1 point

I suspect it's because I'm blonde and drive a red dodge viper. Maybe I should dye my hair blue and swap the viper out for a VW beetle!1 point

Thanks for the kind words men. I do what I do cause I enjoy it and the missus says it shows in the blades I produce. They are never perfect. pristine or whatever other adjective of that nature. But most have a certain look, feel and above all are functional. When you look at most of my blades for the most part you don't have a fear of using it cause it looks like it's be used for years already. And Red...be careful cause yes...that damn thing is sharp.1 point

Okay, I guess I won't be joining the AK club..... 'cause I brought home a CSA vz 58 today. 16" carbine with the fixed "beaver barf" stock (wood-impregnated plastic furniture, all colors match), original new-in-box with sling, 2 mags, cleaning kit. Looks indeed unused (except test fire). Paid more than I wanted to, but she is a beauty. Will get her cleaned tomorrow and broken in this weekend.1 point

I can’t really comment on the shooting you posted about because once again we only have one side of the story. However as I former cop I can respond on how to not to get killed on a traffic stop. Good points have already been made by others. I will tell the Officer I have a carry permit, and I am armed. I will ask how he wants to proceed. I will listen to him, follow his instructions and we will both go home alive. I fully understand that Tennessee law does not require you to inform a Police Officer you are armed. I also fully understand a Police Officer doesn’t need to have the gun pointed at him in a threatening manner before he shoots you to death. Him thinking you are going for it can get you killed. Video or not; you are dead. Communication as in most things is the key. Cops are killed every day in this country. Many are on so called “routine” traffic stops (there is no such thing) and “family fights”. Seeing your co-workers shot does something to you; I know that because I have through it. I have stood in the ER with two Officers and a perp shot and had crying nurses apologize to me because they had to try (and did) to save the scum bag that shot the Officers. It was a house the two Officers had been to any times. Only this time the guy opened fire. I decided that would never happen to me. Not on a domestic violence call and not on traffic stop. Pay attention, don’t do anything stupid, if you feel the need to display a gun for some reason or are going to reach in the area where a gun is; make sure the cop knows and agrees with what you are doing.1 point

So, earlier this week after eating a nice Indian Buffet I weight 246 lbs, that's the most I've ever weighed. So, I decided to lose weight. I set a goal at 200 lbs. How am I doing it? 1) I'm using MyFitnessPal to count calories. You input your current weight, etc and then set a goal. I told it I'd like to lose 2 lbs a week. Thus, it set my calorie intake at 1900 calories per day. You then input your food as you eat it. If it is something with a barcode you can just scan the barcode and it is likely in the database. Otherwise you can search for it like, "apple", or whatever. Most restaurant food is in the database as well. As an interesting sidenote, if you have an iPhone 5s or newer it automatically counts your steps. Check your "Health" app for this. Well, MyFitnessPal can automatically read this data and adjust your calorie intake. For example, yesterday I ate 1,731 calories of my 1,900 goal, but I walked enough to burn 366 calories, so I could have eaten another 535 had I wanted to. All of the math and adjustments are automatic. 2) I have a FItbit Aria. It is a smart Wi-Fi scale that automatically logs your weight. I have it tied to MyFitnessPal so when I weigh MyFitnessPal automatically updates my goal progress. This is just purely for motivation and obviously not really required. Also, if I were making the purchase again, I would probably get one of the Withings scales instead because it integrates with Apple's Health directly. I think Fitbit has made the decision to not integrate with Health. EDIT: I just realized that you can go and give MyFitnessPal permission to access and write Healthkit data such as "weight" so the scale purchase would now be a tossup based on price. Thus, the data should push from Fitbit to MyFitnessPal to Apple's Healthkit. I was also able to link two badges to my signature that automatically update. If I go and weigh right now, it would update the badges that you see. That's just an added little bonus for motivation and conversation. Different things work for different people. Things that help motivate me? When I "complete" a daily diary in MyFitnessPal it gives a status update. For example, yesterday it told me "If every day were like today... You'd weigh 224.2 lbs in 5 weeks". As you all know, 5 weeks goes by in the blink of an eye. To weight that in 5 weeks if I continue this trend is very motivating. Exercising is addicting and motivating! I know after a nice 3 mile walk I feel motivated to try and continue the trend towards better health. Even a short 1 mile walk is helpful to do this. For me, eating foods that are easy to account for (like inputting "apple" into the MyFitnessPal app) helps me stay motivated. To see the estimated amount of calories I am eating it is easier to control portions and intake. If you throw a bunch of ingredients in a dish and then eat 27.193% of the dish, it is hard to estimate the calories and as such makes it easier to fudge and eat more. I like trying to leave a few hundred calories left over at the end of the day. This helps you if you ended up underestimating your calorie intake elsewhere. Now, I'm not starving myself. I'm just watching calories and choosing more carefully where they come from. I'm trying to increase the amount of exercise as well. So far I feel great. It's just sticking to it and trying to avoid binge days where you throw the entire system out the window.1 point

To be honest the "diet" pills I was taking only worked for a few weeks. I haven't had any thing in months. I eat, I don't starve myself. I have cut down on my consumption and log everything I eat. What I have discovered: 1 bread is your enemy. 2 everything comes with bread (see the problem) 3 don't be afraid to cheat once in a while, you like something that's not good for your diet? Eat it anyway once in a while and in moderation. 4 get a fitness tracker (I like fitbit) and log everything you eat. It will surprise you how much you really eat. 5 if your joint hurt all the time, hurts to walk, it's time to do something. It hurt me just to walk and now I can climb a ladder all day long and my knees don't hurt. 6 cheat foods to keep handy, pickles, nuts, fruit. Nuts and fruit in moderation, pickles have very little calories and will curb the desire to eat something sweet. I've got a long way to go but to be honest I've already gone further than I thought I would. Oh and one more thing, Your weight will fluctuate, it's not a setback. It will happen.1 point

I wonder if they will be allowed to use the Hillary defense; “Yes, I did it, but I’m a good person that didn’t know and I won’t do it anymore.” I bet if she is elected she wouldn’t recommend an unknowing person that got caught up in this get the break she got. I bet most California prosecutors won’t either.1 point

Thanks for all of the heartfelt responses. Couldn't believe anyone would leave her in black flag weather, no food or water. But I did find out who did! Not wanting to waste energy on the scum that did this, i put energy into finding her a new home. I made a wrong turn when I found her and actually went back after thinking about it for 30 minutes. I made "the lower than humans that didn't know her'" load her into my truck; after a brief field interview with them, w them telling me they didnt know whose dog it was, but her name is"star", i told them well now shes mine, doesn't matter at this point. After leaving I did some other trade work stuff to establish a point. again she went to a good home, hated to give her away but she'll be happy as my other 3 will be...am still looking for the POS that glued up the chihuahuas in nashville but thats another story....patience...1 point

That is great to hear. Bandit has similar lineage, but with more Lab. I got here from here on the board almost three years ago now. She is hands down on the most intelligent animals I have ever met. It is amazing for her size how compact and muscular she is. The Lab/Pit mix is a very interesting breed with no downsides that I have found.1 point

I think you've got your ballistics mixed up. The 25-45 Sharps is barely more efficient than .223 or 6x45. It's got nothing on Grendel or 6.8. There is another wildcat that is slightly shorter, the 25-223 that will allow use of heavier and higher BC bullets. The Sharps gets its best number from 20" barrels using the 87grn Speer hot core bullet. Beowulf is as effective as any other large bore rifle, it is only limited by the shooters ability to learn holdovers and use them affectively. 45-70 killed thousands of buffalo and men from much further than 150yds with black powder shooting cast 405grn bullets. I run 500's in mine, I'd have no qualms shooting large deer or black bears with it at 200yds.1 point

A couple of questions; When you pull the trigger does it go bang 99% of the time? Yes: Keep it No: Fix it Does it hit where you aim? Yes: Good, keep it No: Is it you? Yes: Practice No: Fix it Bottom line, are you happy with it? If the answer is yes, then don't worry with what others say. You won't get your return on investment, ARs have become much cheaper since you bought yours. While I don't like the ARs with handles, I like flat tops, there is nothing wrong with them, I used that version for over 15 years. And if you absolutely must, then you can just do some upgrades to it, new upper, PSA has some cheap ones this weekend, new barrel/caliber etc.1 point
