I liken these coolers to other brands like G. Loomis poles, Nesmuk knives and Holland & Holland shotguns. You are paying for quality and you're getting it. It just happens to be a level of quality most of us really don't need and probably cannot utilize to max potential.6 points

Kinda stupid really. I love, respect and support our Service Men & Women but what makes them any more suited than the next guy? Most don't carry/use handguns at all. Not trying to take away from them in any way but a Jet engine mechanic, a surgeon and a cook [all vital roles] aren't exactly Tom Clancy novel material. I guess what I'm saying, if they're doing it as a way of saying "Thank you for your service" then I am 100% all for it. If their reasoning is that they are somehow MORE qualified, I don't agree.3 points

Here's how I look at something like this. You've spent a couple hundred bucks worth of gas getting offshore. You hook into some big amberjack, tuna, dolphin, grouper, whatever... Pretty quickly you're talking about thousands of dollars worth of fish at market rates. You want to treat your catch with respect and not let it spoil. If you're out that far you've probably already got nearly 6 figures in your boat. Heck, you could buy a couple of igloos for what it's going to cost to fill that thing with ice alone. But, for the guys who have a need for something like this, it's worth it.2 points

Adult population (age 18 and up) in Tennessee is approximately 4,9 million. As of June 1, 2016, there are 560,933 HCP holders in Tennessee. https://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/safety/attachments/Current_HG_PermitHolders.pdf One in nine adults in Tennessee have HCP, yet amazingly we aren't shooting each other right and left. http://www.rokslide.com/forums/showthread.php?46044-Atlas-cooler-25-discount-group-buy-now-open-june-1-june-30 Details at the above link. Basically it's a group-buy discount code, open to anyone. It takes an extra 25% off the sale price of any Alas product EXCEPT the cheapest tumblers. It's very specific as to how it works & it MUST be followed to the letter, but for the savings, it's absolutely worth it! I'm in for 2 80qt coolers & possibly a 30 & I have a good friends joining my order with a 2 65qt + a 115. There had been huge interest on the Rokslide forum & the guy who has arranged this has put in a TON of work. If anyone is considering buying a better quality cooler but is on the fence regarding price....this might just tip you over the edge! Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk1 point

Most likely, I will regret posting this. Many will disagree. We'll have people say this will never work. Nonetheless, here is what I'm working on to protect us, which is to change the conversation. I will try hard not to engage. Every time I have to apologize for being a dickhead on TGO it is around some kind of political issue. Demographics are not working in our favor. The gun control argument works very well with the demographic the will soon out grow us. I posted the following in response to this article: http://abcnews.go.com/Health/overhauling-mental-health-care-silver-bullet-reducing-gun/story?id=40193010 Note my approach, which is trying to change the conversation. If the issue is gun violence, then let's talk about how to reduce it. This was not written for us TGO types. This was written for the folks up north, in Chicago and in California. I will polish this and once it is really good, I'll send it as a letter to the editor to newspapers in the areas just mentioned. I will say that I'm open to comments on unintended consequences. **************************************************************************************** The journalist that wrote this article infers that the problem isn't mental health, but rather guns. He/she was dishonest as the comments by the experts in this article don't support that. If you look at what is said by the experts, they make one point, that mental health issues are not strongly associated with gun violence. Further, they state that mental health issues are not associated with violence. I take issue with politicians claiming they want to stop gun violence when their actions show that they use this topic for political gain. They view this topic as a way to rally the Democrat faithful and put little to no effort into solving the problem. The Republicans do same thing on different topics. Politicians exhibit this behavior because we reinforce them when they do it. We need to stop buying it. Notice that the gun expert didn't refer to guns when he spoke about violence. He spoke about the real issue, which is violence. Here is an example to make my point. First, these mass shootings are absolutely terrible - no doubt about it. They are also statistically insignificant relative to gun violence in the US. Far and away, most gun violence in the US is in the inner city. A young inner city man was killed by gun violence in my city recently. The police and inner city activists made a really good point, which targeted the true issue, which is violence. The point they made was that action was needed to get into the inner city and help youth understand that the rap music they listen to is a form of art, not a form of how the real world is or should be. When is the last time you heard a politician talking about that? If the opposing sides on the issue of gun control would lay that aside and collaborate on how to reduce both gun deaths and violence, we may really be able to make a difference. Here are focus areas I would like to see: · Marketing and safety campaigns around homes with children on keeping guns out of reach of the young ones and out of the hands of teens when adult supervision is not available. · Additional focus on reduced bullying and awareness of troubled teens. Inner city campaigns and education around violence not being the answer as well as teaching conflict resolution, etc... · Lay aside the gun control fight and look for common ground between the two sides to collaborate on reducing accidents and violence connected to guns.1 point

Just watch Walking dead then watch World War Z or 28days later. WWZ/28 days later zombies are like a human with the speed of a cheetah on cocaine. I don't care who you are, no human can shoot a semi auto fast enough to combat even a few of those. I prefer the slow walkers of Walking dead. Quite honestly WWZ type zombies scare the shiite out of me, and a virus epidemic could very well cause it.1 point

Yeah, there's no rocket science to rotomolded plastic with better insulation. If Yeti is to be credited with anything, it's finding a niche and showing that there's an alternative to igloos that need replacing every other year. I've got a midsize Yeti that is a great cooler. The fact that it can be pressure washed is definitely a feature in my book. Being dry ice capable is also nice when you need it to get really cold. I think we're going to see some great innovation over the next couple of years. You've already seen the market change with competitors (ORCA, RTIC, Atlas, etc...) and prices drop (see Rob's group buy). Some are even starting to innovate - not just copy. Those Atlas's that Rob posted have better, thinner insulation. The fan boys have driven Yeti's pricing - it seems to be the classic they'll pay more if you'll just show them a way how. That said, I'm excited to see where coolers are in a couple of years when things equilibrate. I've been on big boats with freezers, but those seem to be the big diesels that are also carrying gensets. My uncle has a 30' parker that's fished 100's of days offshore. We still use ice on that one.1 point

I think my posting wasn't clear. I wasn't saying that I don't understand why private colleges are treated differently that public ones. Instead, I was saying that there should be absolutely no difference between how a private college is treated regarding this issue vs how any private business is treated. In other words, rather than laying out 'rules' stating that private colleges would need to come up with their own carry policy it should simply say that 'private colleges will be viewed the same under the law as any, other private business.' By that, I mean that the way I read the law it still seems that carry on a private campus is illlegal by default until and unless the college specifically creates a carry policy. Instead, the default should be that it is legal to carry there unless a policy is developed which restricts carry - just like any, other private business. I believe that if private colleges want to restrict or prohibit carry they should have to actually make the effort to do so rather than being off limits by default with the effort required only if they want to allow carry. My understanding is that before the change private colleges were treated just like any, other school - which is not the correct approach. Now, there are distinctions made between private and public colleges but it appears that private colleges are still viewed differently under the law than other private businesses. That is the part with which I take issue.1 point

Zombies... Suppressed 9mm AR SBR... with a brush axe attachment1 point

Oh well, if you're talking zombies..... First choice would be my Osage long bow. Basically indestructible, replaceable in under 6 hours (as long as I have a knife to whittle with). Unlimited ammunition (there are sticks & rocks EVERYWHERE!) can be used like a spear, staff, walking stick or pike. It's absolutely silent, quick to reload & super light to carry (5oz) Second choice.... Fully silenced (what class 3?) .22 lever gun.1 point

It sorta seems to me the suppressor world has recently taken a nice leap in innovation....more companies making them all trying to outdo each other has really helped us a consumers. I have a Dead Air Sandman-L on order for my .30 cal can. If the Surge was in Stock at the time I made my purchase, I would have had a difficult decision to make. I wouldn't second guess yourself on your decision, it looks like a can that will stay relevant for quite some time to come. The modularity of the Rugged cans is really appealing and seem to suppress well in either configuration.1 point

I'd be glad to put that thing through its paces 60 miles offshore when we get into a lot of fish. This is a specialized cooler for very specific purposes. If you've got a use for it you'll be plenty happy with it.1 point

It's a tough call. AK is my first thought. Preferably my m92, but any would do. I would also take my .357 lever action. Simple, fast, easy to carry and can load for big game with .357 or load way down for small game with .38spl. Add to it that every state should have plenty of these rounds available and since revolver carries are more limited shouldn't be as hard to find ammo as the other semi auto main calibers. Pretty easy to reload as well. Just a thought. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk1 point

Or an AR rifle with .22LR conversion bolt. Or make that a 10.5AR pistol that in WROL environment becomes a SBR. - OS1 point

Yeah. It's funny to watch the reaction of women customers particularly, when I explain that carrying a weapon is going to require wardrobe adjustments if they plan to carry on body. Whenever I explain that IWB is going to require them to buy the next size pant to make room for the gun, they sure get huffy. "I am not ABOUT to buy bigger clothes! Forget it!" lol1 point

Wow. People do develop dumb habits. This tops the list. Reminds me of this though. My Wife performs modern ballet. We were at the Princess Theatre in South Pittsburg, TN. I was upstairs shooting photos and there was one other husband with me. Halfway through one of the shows at night two officers come in upstairs, it's just the four of us total. Well, they stay about five minutes and then leave. The other Husband gives me the biggest "what just happened face". He tells me later that since it was dark in the theatre the male cop pulls his gun out of his holster and uses his flashlight on the gun for navigation. Couldn't believe it. Dude, I was just picking up some envelopes to mail some letters. Sorry you didn't like my attire. Just kidding. Might be someone on the forum though. Good job keeping your eyes open. Wow! My guess (after reading the whole story) is that he probably has a bad habbit of playing with it and forgot that he was in public. However, that's a terribly bad habbit that can get him or someone else hurt. I think you handled it well and did a good job staying alert. I'll keep an eye out for this guy while shopping in Cleveland.1 point
