  3. Well, that's complicated. I mentioned that I have a D3CR so I was looking for something that was going to be compatible. I finally decided on a Mission Spec EOC. Combine that with the Rigit Kit and I was able to merge the two very nicely. For armor I went with AR500 front and back. It's only about 20 pounds total with all my mags and trauma kit so I was happy with that. I wore it for most of a carbine class with Tiger McKee until the heat forced me to go without it for the rest of the day. Overall, I'm happy with what I ended up with. It's a relatively small rig but contains enough of what I was looking for.

  6. Devil's advocate here but; Who's the rightful owner? That would be them. Is a person NOT entitled to do with their property however they see fit so long as it's legal? They can shove them up their butt and cluck like a chicken if that makes them happy. I wouldn't do it, you wouldn't do but it IS their decision. How angry do we get when we are told what we can and cannot do with our own property? Ultimately, the destruction of their property only makes YOUR property more valuable. A fool and his money are soon parted. Let the fools piss away their money. Means NOTHING to me. I'm neither impressed or outraged but perfectly indifferent to all idiots and their decisions so long as it doesn't impact the rest of our lives.

  9. I'm trying to pick a caliber. 6.5 Grendel, 6.8SPC, 458Socom, 300BO...? I've decided to build a "woods" AR. It's primary mission will be to ride in the rack on my ATV while riding on my land to check deer stands, cameras, fence maintenance, etc. I use a Win94 30-30 for this purpose now, but I'm wanting to build another AR It needs to be able to handle varmints at distance, hogs, deer and defend against whatever sasquatch might lurk in the East TN woods. I won't really be hunting with it on purpose (I have other platforms for that). I just want a ride-along partner that's also a capable hunter. I want a 16" in something other than 5.56. I'm leaning towards 6.5Grendel, but the 458 has caught my eye. 300BO?6.8? What would you choose? This will probably wear a rattle can paint job and a light weight 1-4 optic, so it may double as a good truck gun on occasion too. I will also reload for it.

  11. 300blackout is fun, but if you're not wanting to run subsonic, there are better options. 7.62x39 bests 300blk by about 200fps, and with real rifle bullets, x39 carries its energy better and further than 30-30(even with the 30-30 having about 200fps on it with 125grn flat nose bullets). The 6.5 will stretch to the 400-500yd mark and stay in the velocity envelope of bullet performance with 125grn bullets, this is roughly 100-150yds further than the 30's. BUT, the x39 has sweet cheap steel cased ammo for all around shooting and practice. I have the AR's in x39 and 300blk, both serve different purposes. For 6.5, I went 260rem in the AR308 platform, it'll knock the socks off any the small platform cartridges, but obviously in a larger, heavier platform.

  12. Yes, and if you want to really get technical it is the most versatile Glock because it can shoot more calibers with barrel changes than any of the others. You could do more with a 21 but it would take a lot more than just barrels to do it.

  14. It's a tough call. AK is my first thought. Preferably my m92, but any would do. I would also take my .357 lever action. Simple, fast, easy to carry and can load for big game with .357 or load way down for small game with .38spl. Add to it that every state should have plenty of these rounds available and since revolver carries are more limited shouldn't be as hard to find ammo as the other semi auto main calibers. Pretty easy to reload as well. Just a thought. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

  18. First of all, I'm not a "what if" person. I'll cross that bridge "if" I come to it. But I'll play along on this one. Like others have said, it depends on why I have to choose one gun. Zombie apocalypse? Desert Eagle 50. Civil war, the Chinese are coming, etc? AR-15. The gov't says we can only have one gun? Glock 29SF. I'm moving to a country like Belize that restricts guns to nothing bigger than a 9mm? Bersa Thunder 380.

  22. I was approached in the Walmart in Dayton last week by a fellow OC a high point 45 in a belt slide. I was looking at ammo as I waited for others to complete their shopping. He tried to start a conversation about poor customer service and also asked what I carry. While he was nice enough, the way he approached me wasn't confidence inspiring. I politely excused myself and moved on. I think others would have been less accepting. I did notice others giving him a wide berth. Open carry in that situation needs the most competen, positive face put on it.. Just my 0.02$

  24. Other than a rogue turkey that met it's demise in the garden a few weeks ago, we ate the first produce from ours tonight. Chicken stir fry with zucchini, yellow squash, jalapeno pepper, and a handful of tiny green beans. I've been waiting on that for a while now. It was really good. We've had plenty of rain here. Garden looks good. I set it out late, so it's just about to start producing for the most part.

We have, or have had, several Knox ones on TGO, but the only one I can still find is: JReedEsq http://www.knoxvilletnlaw.com I personally know one the big time criminal lawyers around here, Randy Reagan, has handled a bunch of high profile cases. 27. The type of attorney that defends these type of cases is a defense attorney. I'm here in Nashville. So I did Internet research to find the best defense attorneys and emailed one of the attorneys and have him in my contacts. I will ask my attorney to contact Andrew Branca, who probably knows more about firearms self defense law than anyone in the country. He isn't very popular on TGO as he joined and got banned for pushing his business or something - I wasn't here.

  30. As for those thinking about a 30-30, whaddya think about a lever 357? More capacity, and can get darn close to 30-30 power with the right 357 load. Easy to reload for, and can scrounge both 38 and 357 ammo when you come across it. Personally, I'd be picking a semi auto with capacity, most like any AR variant in 556 or 308, but I do like my Marlin 1894 in 357, too.

  35. I wanted to provide an update: The final approval to go to production with our order was given today so we are probably 8-10 days out before they ship to me, probably 4-5 days of transit time, and then I will be breaking out the individual purchases and getting them shipped out to all of you.

  36. Not as much as you think. Just an example, a full crate (880 rounds) of 7.62x54r weighs roughly 60 lbs. At 13000 lbs. (6.5 tons) that's about 217 crates, or approximately 2 pallets. There are a lot of people who stockpile those amounts and more ...

  41. Don't most of us have to make a buck to continue to exist? That certainly doesn't keep us from allowing politics to persuade or dissuade us from taking certain actions in life. I don't say anything about Walgreens or Best Buy not selling or displaying firearms, because they never have. It was never part of their business model. Academy, on the other hand, has devoted a sizable portion of their business to firearms and related merchandise. The consumerism that drove them to sell and display those scary black rifles in the first place can and should work against them when they all of a sudden decide to change direction. Whether they wanted to or not, they made it entirely political when they allowed the political climate to dictate their policy. But if consumerism is supposed to validate or refute those decisions, like you said, then why the chiding toward the people attempting to refute the decision of Academy? You seem to think very highly of your own opinions and ability to validate or refute something, but hold little regard for anyone else attempting to do the same. That might be the biggest difference between my philosophy and yours. I'm willing to pay more for something if I see value in other aspects of supporting a business, besides just saving a buck. I go out of my way to buy many American made products, even though I have to do a little more work and spend more money to do so. Businesses often use their money and clout as leverage to push policies that help them, and I'm free to use my $$$$ as leverage as I see fit. I'm not a consumerist robot. I realize that business has been intertwined with government and politics. The little Mom & Pop stores have been brushed aside to make way for corporations that have no true concern for any type of "community," only a concern for a bottom line. Rarely do you see large businesses and corporations that are completely apolitical when push comes to shove. You see more and more businesses going out of their way to stick their noses into hot-button topics and social issues. Anti-gunners and other Leftists have no problem trying to push businesses to conform to whichever direction the politically correct winds are blowing. Why shouldn't I be pushing right back? Speaking of groceries, why do I spend a little more at Kroger than other places? Is it because of lower prices? Not really. Is it because more selections? Not really. Is it because it's the only place to buy groceries near me? Nope. It might have something to do with the fact that Kroger management told the Moms Demand Action yentas to take a long walk off a short pier. Kroger doesn't even sell guns or ammunition or anything like that. Yet mysteriously, I've allowed a decision on guns to affect how I support a business that only sells groceries. Why? Because currency has been weaponized and I have to be willing to use it if/when/where others are trying to use it against me. What you see as a "friendly" business that at least still has some overlap with the firearms community, I see as a corporation who's quick to buckle under pressure and cut off its nose to spite its face. There's currently no law prohibiting them from selling AR-15s or displaying them right in the middle of the store. There wasn't even enough time for them to gauge any kind of negative consumer reaction or decrease in sales. This is something that corporate HQ was clearly ready to do should they come under even the slightest scrutiny. I don't need friends like that. As a gun owner who loves my AR collection, I certainly don't want to rely on those types of entities or give them more support and leverage than they deserve. The idea that they pull scary black rifles from public display that quickly was actually a political statement that plays right into the hands of the gun grabbers. It was as much of a business decision as was Target's business decision to allow grown men to walk into a bathroom with your wife or daughter. Again, it's all become politics when you scratch the surface. But you're right, you are free to patronize them and support them according to your own philosophy. I'm free to do the same. But you're not free to call into question my reluctance and personal boycott without getting some kind of negative reaction.

  46. Here is my take on armor. No soft armor will stop a rifle round, period. But if you look at what most police officers face you will see what you are most likely to face and that is pistol calibers.   If you are wanting plates there are some things to take into consideration. First is what are you going to be doing while you are wearing armor. If you are going to be hoofing it I would suggest the lightest armor you can afford and for most that is ceramic. There are hard armor plates that float but they are expensive compared to ceramic. The down sides to ceramic is they are thick, they are brittle and some cannot take multiple hits. If you are working in confined spaces like vehicles then steel is a viable alternative because they are generally less than 1/2 the thickness of a typical ceramic plate. The downside of steel plates is they are heavy compared to ceramics. But as far as actual performance they are comparable at everything but CQB distances. And as far as protection per dollar you cannot beat steel. It is possible to get adequate steel plates for $65 now. Add a spall coating and it will be great.   I have found that once you get a front and rear ceramic plate on your carrier then your two layers of magazines and water or small pack and you end up being thicker than you are wider. And that can make getting into and out of a vehicle very difficult. Doing menial tasks can also become a problem when you are twice as thick as you normally are.   And with the legislation coming for them now might be the time to buy soft armor. The steel plate would be easy to say it is just a target but soft armor can only be used as soft armor.   Something else to consider is a "in conjunction" setup. They can reduce weight while giving you as much protection as a level 4 plate. What they are designed to do is destroy the bullet as it passed then let your soft armor catch the fragments. They are generally not as safe as level 4 but it is way better than a level 3 hard plate. I will be running level 4 plates with level 3A soft armor behind it. It should be like a level 4+.   And finally, I would NEVER recommend it I have tested floor tile as a viable ceramic plate. I took two 1/4" thick ceramic floor tile and put a 1/2" rubber pacer to give it some standoff. I put that in a carboard box then covered that with a t-shirt. I shot it at 25 yards with 22LR, 9mm, 45 ACP and 5.56. All of them were stopped by the t-shirt. I ran out of test plates by the time I got to testing 7.62x39 but I suspect it would have went right through. Like I said I would never use it but if you were in need of protection and had nothing it will work better than nothing.   And something else, if you are buying plates you might as well get a helmet too. They protect the most important weapon of all, your brain. I run a level three helmet.
