  1. I picked up a 2nd TGO set a year ago or so and wanted to build it different with a longer barrel. I built the lower not long after I bought them but the upper has been on the back burner due to wanting to sbr the other TGO set and buy an Omega suppressor. Since I've finished those two items off the "want/need" list I got started on this again. So before I continue with the build list, the first thing most of you should notice is the birdcage isn't timed. I'm puttin an Odin Works comp on this rifle until my Omega gets out of jail, so the A2 is just there to protect the threads and only had a used crush washer. Pains me to see it on this rifle but I had to do with what I had. 5. I don't remember ever seeing one of his videos on TGO but I'm becoming a fan. Colion Noir is an African-American gun rights activist, lawyer, member of the National Rifle Association, and the host of the web series Noir on the NRA's online video channel NRA Freestyle.

  6. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/06/18/obama-returns-to-efforts-to-ban-assault-weapons.html?intcmp=hpbt1 Published June 18, 2016 FoxNews.com President Obama on Saturday renewed his call to ban so-called assault weapons, in the aftermath of the Florida nightclub shooting and other recent terror attacks on U.S. soil. “Being tough on terrorism -- particularly the sorts of homegrown terrorism that we’ve seen now in Orlando and San Bernardino -- means making it harder for people who want to kill Americans to get their hands on assault weapons that are capable of killing dozens of innocents as quickly as possible,” Obama said in his weekly radio address. “That’s something I’ll continue to talk about in the weeks ahead.” The president stayed silent on the assault-weapon issue in public remarks immediately after the attack early Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla., in which 49 people were killed and dozens more were wounded. However, he returned to the ban issued Tuesday in a fiery speech in which he also defended his decision not to use the term “radical Islam” when referring to Islamic terrorists. The Orlando gunman, Omar Mateen, a self-radicalized Muslim who pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State terror group, used a handgun and a Sig Sauer MCX assault rifle in the massacre. Congress in 1994 passed a ban on semi-automatic weapons like the one Mateen used inside Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. However, the ban expired in 2004. An effort in Congress led by Senate Democrats and pushed by Obama after the 2012 mass shooting inside a Newtown, Conn., elementary school to reinstate the ban ended in bitter defeat. "Every time I think about those kids, it gets me mad," Obama said earlier this year when announcing his own efforts, through executive action, to tighten gun control. Obama’s renewed push comes at the same time Senate Democrats are trying again for tougher gun-control laws. On Thursday, they forced a vote on four measures. None addresses the issue of semi-automatic weapons and are expected to fail, considering Democrats in the GOP-controlled chamber would need votes from Republican senators and the political might of the National Rifle Association. The vote is expected Monday. Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has also joined the fight to ban semi-automatic weapons, saying last week: “Weapons of war have no place on our streets." The NRA lobby is already gearing up for the fight over Second Amendment rights, releasing a 5-minute-long video this weekend featuring a Navy SEAL veteran named Dom Raso. “Let me say something to every political hack pretending to know an AR-15 from a double-barrel shotgun, in the wake of the Orlando attack,” Raso says. “For the vast major of people I work with, there is nothing better to defend their homes against realistic threats than with an AR-15 semi-automatic.” Donald Trump has been endorsed by the NRA, but the presumptive GOP presidential nominee told Fox News on Wednesday that he wants to meet with the group to discuss barring people on the terrorism watch list from buying guns. About 71 percent of Americans, including eight out of 10 Democrats and nearly six out of 10 Republicans, favor at least moderate regulations and restrictions on guns, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from Monday to Thursday. That was up from 60 percent in late 2013 and late 2014. Two of the four Senate proposals are from Democrats and would allow the government to prevent terrorist suspects from buying guns and expand background checks to online and gun-show purchases. The other two are from Republicans and would require court approval for the government to ban an individual from trying to buy a gun and would require law enforcement agencies to be notified if somebody investigated for terrorism in the past five years tries to buy a gun.

  7. We just got home from her second meet. She got to sight in her new .22 target rifle last weekend. It was hot and she was tired. She wanted to roll through the stances and not continue prone, so we got a semi solid zero on it and called it a day. This week was the Fleming County Invitational. Her first meet with her new left handed .22 Target and .22 Sport rifles. She took 3rd in .22 Target Individual and 1st in .22 Target Team. I will try and get pictures up when we get the trophies on Tuesday. I am BEYOND thrilled with her, and she could not be more excited. Her mother is concerned as the eventuality of logic states that she will go to a match and not place, but so far we are two out of two. The upside though is that we will definitely be attending the state invitational.

  8. At such an appropriate time, too. I'm gonna piss off some liberals this week. Wrapped in crossed AR-15's, a deep dislike for liberals, and advanced asshole skills. Gonna be fun.

  10. The SKS was widely used in Vietnam. The NVA had them and the Viet Cong used whatever they could find. The SKS cost more to produce than the AK. The AK was junk. A lot of Mosins were also used. Probably the other way around. The SKS was a better, more accurate rifle than the AK. The leader and the snipers would probably have SKS’s if they had them. Mosins and 03 Springfields were also common sniper rifles. Everything available was used in Vietnam. The Viet Cong were scavenger forces; they used whatever they had or could take. The same thing today in Afghanistan; plenty of old azz rifles there. They use what they can get.

  12. I've been laughed at for it in the past, but they've gotten really, really popular of late. My favorite so far is the PSA Hybrid 9 that uses Glock mags. I've yet to have any issues with it and approaching 1000 rounds thru it. No it doesn't have a BHO, but that's not stopped my enjoyment yet. My next move on one is to sbr an 8.5 inch upper and add a can. I'm incorrigible. Sadly, the money is stopping me.

  13. Oh in that case, I'll feel right at home! I think a 9mm in AR platform would be fun, even if I had no real "reason" to have it but to have it.

  14. That's a beautiful build! I wish we could do another buy like that again. I actually got the upper and lower and we built a great AR for me. Light, easy to use and comfortable for me. Great job!

  17. Since both the North Vietnamese army and the Viet Cong were armed by the Communist regimes, yes the SKS was widely used, along with the other arms available in the Comm-block world, including AK's and older Mosin Nagants.

  19. So it is no secret that my heathen was raised around guns. She has been shooting since she was four years old. She started with a single shot bolt action .22 rimfire rifle and has progressed to where she can and does shoot an AR at the range. As she turned 9 last year she was eligible for 4H Shooting Sports this season. We signed her up and her first practice was in April. At her very first practice her coach inquired as to her experience shooting. I explained that she had a handful of years under her and I hoped he didn't have to unteach too much of what I had taught her. To my mild surprise he stated that she was a pure natural and asked if she would be interested in shooting the first match of the season, less than two months away. The Heathen is right handed, but left eye dominant. I have raised her to shoot left handed rifle. I am also cross dominant and it has never hindered me to shoot off-hand to my dominant eye. The coaches embraced this and let her do her own thing. They are all very impressed with her. They call her a natural and have been teaching her on Target Air Rifle, Sport Air Rifle, Target .22 and Sport .22. She also shoots archery. With a recurve. Nearly alone in that discipline as nearly everyone else shoots compound (bare, hunting and target.) The coaches are awesome, and have gone as far as to special order her a left handed Target Air Rifle and a left handed Target .22. They have that much faith in her talent. And on to that talent. Saturday was a dreary rainy day in Kentucky. But it didn't stop her. It was her first competition with less than two months experience on a Target Air Rifle. She placed 3rd. We are beyond thrilled.

  20. Picked up one for grins. Like this sucker, 4" bull barrel and aluminum frame, 45 ACP. Trigger is very nice but it is a little different on take down. Anyone else have one? Also have a Kimber Stainless II in 45 acp and 2 RIA 1911s in 9mm. My addiction to 1911s is showing.

  23. If you want it screwed up beyond all recognition...sure. Actually, I have yet to do a total build. Everything I have has been just upper and lower mating. And I haven't yet fouled it up. I haven't done anything like over 75 yards with a rifle, but in the back of my pointy little head there's the urge to try something longer range.

  24. Very nice rifle. I tend to gravitate towards carbine length, but thinking my next AR will be a 20+. But what do I know, I'm still into AR9. lol

  27. For myself, I have chose to only comment in certain things because in my opinion, honestly, subjects of a certain nature cause some really ugly conversations. I read threads sometimes and I want to contribute, but then I stop because I know certain members will disagree and then to have to debate back and forth for a simple idea or thought is just not worth it. Also, while I share the views of many of you, I've noticed that certain people have gotten ridiculous on certain posts and it's just not worth associating myself with a thread when I feel like it's borderline hateful. On the bright side, met another member today. Monkey and I were both happy to get to stop and talk to him for a bit. But for me, I'm selective on what I discuss or participate in.

  28. It feels like less traffic to me as well. Of course I don't have statistics, though it seems to me that we haven't had as many threads in the areas that generate the most participation and satisfaction, which are the ones about guns, knives, fishing, etc... The threads where someone asks how to do something with a gun or other TGO type thing seem to go well. People want to be helpful and they enjoy sharing knowledge and opinion. This forum seems to get the most interest in modern firearms, especially the AR 15. There are also a core group of C&R folks, of which I'm one. I've been a little surprised at the lack of interest in the Civil War guns I've posted. Sense of humor always helps things. I didn't start the funny picture thread for me - I've already found, seen and enjoyed them. I try to keep it going as we can be a somber lot. I remember starting a thread saying the the SKS should be the official gun of TN as the notion is so ridiculous that its really funny. You would have thought I wanted Bernie for Governor based on some of the replies. Sense of humor always helps. Other threads that have been good have been ones like what gun would you have if you could only have one, etc....

  34. Sure the AK’s are junk; regardless of what you compare them to. They were designed to be junk; they were popular because they were cheap. They have a following now so there are people paying close to a grand for them; who would have ever thought? Having said that everything is application driven. They are a great close quarter combat weapon because they use a better round than the AR. They are made with extreme clearances so they won’t jamb; but they are useless at distance. They can’t compete with an SKS or an AR at distance. If you are a sniper or a long distance shooter there is no comparisons between an M14 and an M16; again, application driven.

  36. My bestest buddy ever passed away last year. Had a hard time with that but the wife brought this guy home the other day. The shelter called him Moose. SO that's his name. He's about 2 yrs old and 85 pounds of American Bulldog. He's fairly easy to get along with. He sleeps about 18 hours a day. He's a big TGO fan though.

  44. I appreciate your friend's mindset Ron! Below is something I received from John Farnam some time ago...it remains pertinent. Defender's Creed The Defender's Creed John Farnam I accept and understand that human predators exist. Criminal or terrorist, they take advantage of our civilized society to prey upon the weak. They represent evil and must be confronted and defeated. I believe that self-defense is a moral imperative, and that illegitimate force and illegal violence must be met with righteous indignation and superior violence. I will not rely on others for the security of myself, my family and my community. I proudly proclaim that I run with a like-minded pack. I do not amble through life with the mind-numbed herd. I will train with my chosen weapons, maintain them and carry them in a condition of readiness at all times. I will be mentally prepared and physically equipped to effectively respond to an attack or emergency. I will constantly test myself against realistic standards to discover my strengths and weaknesses. I will turn weakness into strength. I will seek to learn new skills and techniques, and then teach what I have learned to other members of the pack. Be it with firearm or blade, empty hand or blunt object, I will hit my enemies hard, fast and true. I will live a quiet and unobtrusive life, but I will develop and retain the capacity for swift and decisive violence. I recognize that I am the modern equivalent of the traditional Minuteman, and that I may be called to service at any time against heavily armed enemies. I will respond effectively. I accept that I am a pariah among some of my countrymen, and a quaint anachronism to others. I will not hold their ignorance against them. I will win, or die trying. I swear this creed before God, my family and my fellow citizens.

  46. I think the sore spot with all firearm warranties is the $55 no other option one way shipping fee. A few weeks to fix, I'm ok with that as long as it comes back fixed. You would think a brand name like Sig would send you a shipping label, at least for the first owner
